Taxes paid by pubs, hotels and cinemas in Wales will fall after the Welsh government announced a 30% cut in some business rates.
First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth said hospitality, accommodation and leisure venues would receive the permanent cut in rates from April 2027.
"It is about helping businesses like this to thrive, so our communities can thrive," ap Iorwerth said on a visit to a pub in Cardiff.
The cut, which will be funded by an increase in the rates paid by businesses with the highest-value properties, was welcomed by UK Hospitality Cymru. But the trade body warned businesses still faced "massive amounts of taxation coming from all areas".

One of the 26 fighters competing Saturday at UFC 331 will walk away with an extra $50,000 in their pocket.
UFC CEO Dana White announced on Monday there will be a special bonus in play during the event in Los Angeles. In honor of hit Paramont+ series "MobLand", there will be an extra bonus. That will be on top of the regular four $100,000 Fight Night bonuses – Fight of the Night (which is earned by two fighters in the most exciting bout), and two individual Performance of the Night awards.
White didn't reveal the exact criteria for the bonus or what exactly he'll be looking for, but he did name it the "proper chaos bonus" and said it'll be up to him to determine the winner.
"Long before I did a deal with Paramount, I've been telling you guys I'm a huge fan of 'Mobland,'" White said Monday in an Instagram video. "It is one of the best shows on television. Season two premieres this Friday on Paramount+, the night before UFC 331 in LA. So for one night only, we're bringing a little proper chaos into the octagon. At UFC 331, we are unlocking the proper chaos bonus. $50,000 awarded to the fighter who I think deserves it most. Florida State is in search of a new athletic director after the university fired Michael Alford on Monday, Sep. 14, four years after he was hired.
The move was made by FSU president Richard McCullough, who said the Seminoles' athletic program needs to better position itself for the future of collegiate athletics. When he spoke with the media Monday morning, McCullough gave insight into what FSU is looking for in its next athletic director.
He placed a value on business acumen and cited the need for success in revenue generation, while also being savvy enough to navigate the complexities of modern collegiate sports, particularly football.
While no move is imminent, here are a few names that make our initial FSU AD hot board.
Dickey has led the Broncos since 2021, and during his time as the program's athletic director, ***** ey has had a huge impact on revenue generation for the program. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock is preparing to lead the team in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals with Sam Darnold set to sit out for the game.
Lock gave the Seahawks a timely lift in the opener, stepping in after Darnold left the game due to injury and delivering a quality performance that led to a win. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown, and took care of the football in the affair.
Lock is equipped to provide Seattle with quick decisions, controlled passing and a balanced rushing attack against Arizona. Lock's mobility will be useful if the Cardinals create a great amount of pressure and force him to scramble outside the pocket.
The larger test will be maintaining that composure for a full game on the road. Seattle will need Lock to protect the football, keep the offense on schedule and capitalize on scoring chances. If he does, the Seahawks will have a realistic path to another important early-season victory.

Amid the news that Macklemore has been dropped as an opener from Ed Sheeran's North American tour, the rapper has alleged that New England owner Robert Kraft intervened to get him removed.
In a lengthy statement posted on Instagram, Macklemore alleged that Kraft had called Sheeran ahead of the singer's concert at Gillette Stadium, which is owned by Kraft. In what Macklemore called a "f***ed up position" for Sheeran, Kraft allegedly barred Macklemore from performing in the stadium and had "rallied" other stadium owners to issue an "ultimatum."
"Last Monday, in the middle of all the media attention surrounding Pink and what I said at MetLife, Ed told me that Robert Kraft called him," Macklemore wrote. "Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium. Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of the other stadium owners and collectively they gave him an ultimatum: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues."
Macklemore opened for Sheeran on Sept. 4 and 5 at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. During his performance, Macklemore called for a "Free Palestine" in a speech before performing his song "Hind's Hall," which was written in support of pro-Palestine protests. The performance drew criticism from many, including singer P!nk, and received a significant amount of media attention.
Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Haggerty, has been vocal about his support for Palestine in recent years, something that he said challenged Sheeran's "typical apolitical stance."

HONG KONG, Sept 14 (Reuters) - The Himalayas are approaching a tipping point as glaciers melt faster than a decade ago, threatening ‌water security as the region approaches "peak water" by mid-century, according to ‌a study released this month.
The findings come after the collapse of a Himalayan glacier in late August along the Nepal-Tibet border, which caused cascading landslides and flash floods in the valleys below. At least 1,300 people have been confirmed dead and more than 5,300 are missing across Nepal and China's Tibet region.
As glaciers ‌retreat, they are leaving ⁠behind unstable glacial lakes held back by little more than loose rock and ice, above valleys where millions of ⁠people live, the study found.
The study was produced by Systemiq, a sustainability advisory firm, together with the Integrated Mountain Initiative, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, and India's G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment.
Himalayan glacier mass loss ‌had accelerated in recent decades, while only 21 glaciers were currently monitored on the ground out of an estimated 40,000 glaciers across the Hindu Kush-Himalaya region, a vast mountain system spanning eight countries from Afghanistan to Myanmar, the study found.

The Mountain West's second official week of conference play produced another strong group of individual performances, but North Dakota State once again proved to be the biggest story.
The Bison went on the road and defeated Air Force 38-32 in their first-ever Mountain West game, improving to 3-0 on the season. Quarterback Nathan Hayes led the way offensively, while senior kicker Drew Klein delivered one of the most impressive special teams performances of the season.

A TikTok posted by phlynnmartin recounts a date from back in August 2024 at Melbourne frozen yogurt chain Yo Chi that the creator, who goes by Phlin or Flynn, said ended with an unexpectedly large bill. The video, captioned "honestly couldn't believe it," had drawn 277,600 likes and 11,000 comments as of publication.
Phlin's date started well, with no awkward tension in the car on the way over, and he called it "loving it," saying the chemistry was there. At Yo Chi, he grabbed what he called the normal-size cup, explaining, "That's all you need. Anything else? Outrageous."
The middle cup, he said, would suggest someone was "really hungry," while the largest cup was simply "a gluttonous amount of frozen yogurt." His date grabbed the larger cup, which immediately made him worry about the bill, and he told viewers, "That could be an issue because realistically I'm probably gonna have to pay for this."
He rationed his own toppings carefully, adding items like strawberries and boba "one at a time," describing it as "the little shimmy" scoop, while his date added toppings more freely, scooping crumble, M&Ms, and an Oreo without hesitation. He said the final bill came to approximately $330, a figure he paid after being asked if the two were together.

KYIV, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Ukraine is ready to halt strikes on Russia if its partners ensure ‌that Moscow will refrain from hitting Ukrainian ‌energy facilities, infrastructure and food supply routes, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday.
Zelenskiy's comments, posted on Telegram, appeared to amount to a denial that Ukraine had formally endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that Ukraine and Russia ‌had agreed not ⁠to hit each other's energy targets.
Zelenskiy said Ukraine was not convinced that Russia ⁠was willing to abide by any agreement.
"Ukraine is not certain that Russia is willing to stick to any agreement," he wrote.
"The war must be brought to an ‌end. And a de-escalatory step regarding critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace. We expect specifics from our partners."

I'm always here for celebrities who are wanting to get yolked, and if takes an Aperol Spritz or two to do it even better. Florence Pugh's been in Venice to promote Netflix's East Of Eden, but let's be honest, she really seems to be there for the content. She opened up about how she sometimes leans forward to get those right, and you can hear her taking instruction in the background, with the filmer humorously noting,"I think you may need to take a sip of the left one to make sure they're even."
She really looks like she's stretching and straining in the video, which amuses me, although I would ******* ume there's a fair amount of liquid in the glass and if you did enough of those you would, in fact, feel the burn. She clarified in the comments she was supposed to be meeting with her personal trainer during this day of travel, but said, "by the time I got there there was only 30 minutes spare so I sent him this."

In a statement posted by his team, Mackie's representatives said he "lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer." Widely regarded as one of the most influential costume designers in entertainment history, Mackie left an indelible mark on television, music, Broadway and American pop culture.
Though celebrated worldwide, Mackie's story was deeply rooted in California.
Raised in Southern California, Mackie attended Chouinard Art School before launching his career in Hollywood. He began as a sketch artist at Paramount Pictures and later worked under legendary costume designer Edith Head, helping shape the golden era of studio filmmaking.
In recent years, Mackie made Palm Springs his home, moving to the desert in 2020. He became a familiar figure in the Coachella Valley arts community, participating in book signings, film festival events, and local cultural fundraisers.

Legendary music and film fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie died Monday at the age of 87. His team confirmed his passing on his official Instagram page. The cause of death is still unconfirmed.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today," the post announced. "He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world."
Born in 1939 in Monterey Park, California, Mackie is best known for designing iconic costumes for musical stars like Cher, Elton John, Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand. He was raised throughout most of his youth by his maternal grandparents after his parents divorced when he was just two years old. He eventually began living with his father after he moved to Rosemead, California, where he attended Rosemead High School.
Mackie left Chouinard Art Institute early after he was hired to sketch for Frank Thompson at Paramount Studios. He spent part of the early 1960s working at the studio as an ****** istant designer under Ray Aghayan. He scored his first big break when Mitzi Gaynor hired him to create the costumes for her Las Vegas Revue. He continued to be a go-to collaborator for Gaynor over the years and raked in Emmys for his contributions to her 1976 and 1978 TV specials.
He became even more well-known in the Hollywood scene in the late 1960s and through the late 1970s for his work as the costume designer for "The Carol Burnett Show," which asked him to design upwards of 50 costumes a week. It was on the set of that iconic sketch variety series that Mackie met Cher. He went on to serve as the costume designer for "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" and continued to design pieces for the star in the decades that followed.

Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW) is reportedly considering selling its 35% stake in Sadara Chemical, its $20 billion chemicals joint venture with Saudi Aramco, as the company continues to reshape its portfolio amid a prolonged downturn in the global chemicals industry. No final decision has been made, and Aramco or another strategic or financial investor could potentially acquire Dow's stake.
The potential exit comes as Sadara has become a significant financial burden for Dow. As of June 30, Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW) had a negative investment balance of $793 million in Sadara and had suspended recognition of its share of the venture's equity losses in the first quarter. Dow has also been exposed to Sadara's financing obligations and previously disclosed that the venture had drawn on a credit facility.
At the same time, Sadara remains a major industrial ****** et, operating a complex in Jubail with more than 3 million metric tons of annual chemicals and plastics capacity. Its operations were disrupted earlier this year by the Middle East conflict, adding transportation, supply-chain, and operating pressures to an industry already dealing with weak demand and global oversupply.
The strongest argument for Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW) is that exiting Sadara could remove a persistent drag on cash flow and allow management to redirect capital toward businesses with better returns. Dow's exposure to Sadara is no longer simply an investment in a large Saudi chemicals complex; the company has accumulated a negative investment balance and financial obligations ****** ociated with the venture. A sale could therefore reduce Dow's exposure to future funding requirements and limit the amount of capital that could otherwise have to be committed to the partnership.
That would be particularly valuable because Dow is already trying to improve its cash generation. Management has said its objective is to reach free-cash-flow breakeven while pursuing significant cost reductions. In March, CEO Jim Fitterling said Dow's goal was to avoid putting additional cash into Sadara during 2026, while describing the venture as having low operating cash costs but more challenging fixed costs and financing obligations.

Sure, the Sixers have some shiny new players in Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, but all of this still comes down to the health of Joel Embiid. The big fella is still a dominant player when he can get on the floor as evidenced by his 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.9 ***** ists he averaged in 38 games in the 2025-26 season. Embiid being able to return early from an appendectomy completely changed that Round 1 series with Boston when the Sixers rallied from a 3-1 deficit. He averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.0 ***** ists in Round 1 against the Celtics as he spurred the rally for Philadelphia.
When Embiid is right, there aren't many players in the league who can slow him down. He has lost a step defensively as a result of the injuries and surgeries he's had to undergo has robbed him of a lot of speed and athleticism, but Embiid is so smart and able to find new ways to be effective on defense. He is still one of the top players in the game and should be treated as such. If he's right and healthy, the Sixers take an even bigger leap forward.
The Sixers will rely on third-year big man Adem Bona as they did in the 2025-26 season. He averaged 4.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks as he was able to establish himself in coach Nick Nurse's rotation. He will have competition, though, as the Sixers did add bouncy Ariel Hukporti early in free agency. Also, in his third season, Hukporti will look to find an opportunity in Philadelphia.

When we moved to our former house in the Tradition neighborhood of Port St. Lucie, Fla., we had two Starbucks, two Dunkin's, and two local coffeehouses within a few miles of our house. A few years later, when we moved away, we still had two Starbucks, but the local, independent chains had both closed.

It's a staggering amount of competition in a fast-growing section of the city that's only a few square miles. All of those added competitors come at a time when the overall market has been growing, but seems to have hit a wall.

Dell Technologies (DELL) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) found themselves at the top of the S&P 500 on the back of Oracle's (ORCL) forceful reminder of how much money is still flowing into AI infrastructure.
Dell's stock soared 12% on Sept. 11, while HPE was another of the index's best performers. Investors quickly saw the connection: Oracle needs plenty of servers, networking gear, and other data center hardware to keep up with surging AI demand.
Oracle's fiscal first-quarter results supported this trend. Total revenue rose 30% to $19.3 billion, while cloud infrastructure revenue surged 121% to $7.4 billion. Even more impressive, remaining performance obligations rose $209 billion to $664 billion.
That backlog presents a potential strong read-through for Dell and HPE.
But there is another side to this tale. The businesses fueling the AI boom are more and more fixated on the costs of borrowing and the next actions by the Federal Reserve as they pour unusual amounts of resources into building enough data centers to translate Oracle's contracts into income.

Ryan Garcia left no doubt. After a heated build-up between two of boxing's biggest names, the reigning WBC welterweight champion delivered a devastating performance Saturday night inside of Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, needing less than two rounds to dispatch Conor Benn and successfully defend his belt in a statement performance.

That hard work was rewarded during New York Fashion Week as Kaye was presented with the Virgil Abloh Award at Harlem's Fashion Row's 19th Annual Awards Show.
"I never thought that with an iPhone and the corner of my room that I would inspire people all over the world," Kaye said. "I never thought that my ideas were really that great… I'm incredibly fortunate."

His hedge fund, Situational Awareness, bought call options on AMD, Bloom Energy, CoreWeave, SK Hynix and SanDisk, CNBC reported, citing sources. The trades ran from late last week into this week.
The former OpenAI researcher became famous for a 2024 essay arguing that AI could reach human-level intelligence by 2027. He built an investment business around that belief, backing companies supplying the computing capacity and electricity AI needs.
July exposed how dangerous that bet had become. Borrowed money magnified falling share prices, triggering demands for cash the fund could not meet. **** ets shrank from a peak above $45 billion to roughly $10 billion, according to CNBC.
Ken Griffin's Citadel bought distressed holdings at a discount. Situational Awareness kept private investments, including Anthropic. The SEC later subpoenaed Wall Street banks over their dealings with the fund. The reported inquiry carried no allegation of wrongdoing.
His return uses call options: contracts that let buyers purchase shares at a fixed price before a deadline. When paid for upfront without borrowing, their losses are capped at the purchase cost. That entire amount can still disappear if the options expire worthless.

If you are looking for yield today, rising interest rates have increased your options. For example, the 30-year Treasury bond's yield is around 5.3% as of this writing. By comparison, the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) is only yielding around 1%. But there are still two big reasons why investors may want to buy a high-yield dividend stock like Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), even though its 2.4% yield isn't even close to the 30-year Treasury yield.
A bond is an agreement between the lender and the borrower. The lender provides a fixed amount of cash, while the borrower pays interest at a fixed rate until the loan matures. When the loan matures, the borrower repays the bond's principal. Everything is fixed, and both the value of the interest collected and the bond's principal are slowly eroded by inflation. It doesn't matter that 30-year Treasuries are considered safe because they are backed by the U.S. government. The big inflation risk is still the same.

If you have a short investment time horizon, inflation may not be a big issue for you. In which case, the 5.3% yield of a 30-year Treasury would probably be more attractive than Coca-Cola's 2.4% yield. However, if you have a long time horizon, Coca-Cola's yield comes with something that a Treasury doesn't: Growth.
Coca-Cola is one of the world's largest consumer staples companies. It has an incredible history of growth, highlighted by 64 annual dividend increases. That makes the company a Dividend King. But think about that for a second, you can collect 30 years of the same income from a bond or 30 years of increasing income from Coca-Cola. Since the start of 1996, roughly 30 years ago, the company's dividend has increased by nearly 750%. That dividend growth was driven by the company's growth, which also led to an over 300% increase in the stock price. If you hold a bond to maturity, all you get back is the principal.

Moreover, its vast utility and transmission network handles 20% of the natural gas consumed in the United States. The company's toll-road business model generates highly predictable cash flows, supporting an attractive dividend yield of roughly 5.6%. For income-focused investors, the combination of essential operational volume and reliable capital return creates a defensive cushion during volatile market cycles.
The company's defensive moat goes into cross-border trade and regional security. As Cramer pointed out, imposing punitive tariffs on Canadian energy imports would amount to severe economic self-harm for the United States, given the deep interdependence of North American energy grids.
Even with steady toll revenues, Enbridge Inc. (NYSE:ENB) carries a heavy debt load that comes with the territory of running massive pipeline networks, with long-term debt sitting at approximately C$104 billion. Because building and maintaining energy infrastructure requires heavy borrowing, higher interest rates hit financing costs, which can occasionally weigh on income-seeking investors.

After an epic 11-inning win Friday night against the Phillies, the Braves were hoping to finish them off in the division race. They got a bit of a boost from the Phillies scratching Jesus Luzardo with long-running shoulder soreness.
Tyler Mahle cruised through the first two hitters before Bryce Harper hit a monster homer and took a comical amount of time rounding the bases, clearly hitting back at the controversy from Zach Wheeler's comments about Ronald Acuna's home run celebrations last week. The Phillies had to be feeling good with a 1-0 lead for a couple innings there, until the Braves essentially ended the game with 8 runs in the fourth inning. Ronald Acuna kicked things off with a towering homer (and a normal home run trot).

The Braves then got a walk, single, single, single, error, wild pitch, walk, double, and single to score another 7 runs. Drake Baldwin provided the double before things got all the way back around to Acuna for the last single, bringing home the last run of the inning.
Mahle continued to cruise after that Harper homer, finishing 7.0 innings of 1-run ball with no walks, even though he only had 7 whiffs and 3 strikeouts. The Braves added another run on in the sixth with a Ronald ABS strikeout-turned-walk, an error on an Olson ground ball, and an Ozzie sac fly. The Phillies got one back with a solo homer from Crawford in the eighth against Brent Suter. The Braves got another 3 runs against the position-player pitcher for Philly in the eighth, as Kiersey singled, Albies doubled, and Harris hit a homer off the right field foul pole. Suter finished off the Phillies in the ninth, as the Braves only needed to throw Mahle and Suter on the night. The Phillies' bullpen is in rough shape on the other side, after the 11-inning game Friday and the blowout bullpen game they suffered today.
