Speaking about his role following the arrival of Nathaniel Brown, the Croatian defender emphasized that earning a place in the starting XI has always been a part of life at a club like Bayern Munich, and that mentality has not changed.
"My role hasn't changed. Even before, when Hiroki arrived – and he can play in that position too – it was already up to me to make the coach's decision a difficult one. As a team, it's great to have another good player in the squad," Stanišić said (as captured by iMiaSanMia). "We've got so many matches; in the end, almost everyone was fit because we'd made plenty of substitutions and not everyone had to play every game. The way football is developing, you need a big squad with top-class players to be able to win at the end of a long season.
"You see PSG won the Champions League twice in a row, because they can just field their second team in the league. Not every time, but they can make more changes than in many other leagues. It's good for us; for me, it makes me even more determined to find my place – then it's up to the coach to decide who should play."
It is the kind of mindset Bayern Munich will need throughout the season. With four competitions to navigate and an increasingly demanding schedule, quality depth is no longer optional. Ty Gibbs continued to build momentum toward the NASCAR Cup Series Chase on Sunday, delivering another statement victory for Joe Gibbs Racing with a commanding performance in the Iowa Corn 350 at Iowa Speedway.
The win marked Gibbs' second victory of the 2026 season and capped an afternoon in which he overcame early competition from Ryan Blaney and teammate Christopher Bell before taking control when it mattered most. By the time the checkered flag flew, Gibbs had firmly established himself as one of the hottest drivers entering the final stretch of the regular season.
After Blaney started from the pole and swept Stage 1 by leading all 70 laps, the race appeared to shift in Bell's favor. Bell captured the Stage 2 victory and paced much of the middle portion of the event, looking poised to add another win to his résumé.

The Cincinnati Bengals have a few key defenders working their way back from injuries as training camp continues.
One is interior defensive lineman BJ Hill, who went to the PUP list at the start of training camp due to an injury.
According to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Hill seemed to take a step forward in his comeback on Sunday by working in pads and a helmet with a sled off to the side during practice.
Then there's former first-round pick Shemar Stewart after his serious injury scare. As Conway captured, he's seemingly already out of the brace he had on his knee earlier and merely wearing a sleeve:
It goes without saying, but the Bengals will rely on both guys often during the regular season. They need Stewart to take a strong step in his development, just like other wedge defenders like Myles Murphy and Cashius Howell.

Texas A&M's 2026 tight end room will be led by senior Micah Riley, who is one of five team captains entering the new campaign, while redshirt freshman Kiotti Armstrong and transfer portal additions Houston Thomas and Richie Anderson fill out the rest of the revamped room after Nate Boerkircher, who was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, led all A&M tight ends in receiving and touchdowns last season.
Losing Boerkircher's skill set as an inline blocker and reliable receiver places pressure on Micah Riley to step up as the full-time starter in most 11-personnel looks next season, but under new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, the expectation is that Houston Thomas and Richie Anderson will be heavily utilized in pass sets, while Armstrong, depending on his development over the next three weeks, remains the outlier.
Houston Thomas is a College Station native, and while A&M did not offer him out of high school, he has a close relationship with third-year coach Mike Elko going back to his high school playing days, and, during his final season at UTSA, Thomas reeled in 34 receptions for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns, and enters his final collegiate season with the 5th most receiving yards from a tight end in career (916).
During the first two practices, Thomas has reportedly looked the part as a receiver, thriving in the seam given his size advantage and sure hands, which was captured by Texas A&M's media team this week. Similar to Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton, Thomas's large catch radius and experience as one of UTSA's No. 1 receiving targets should make him one of starting quarterback Marcel Reed's top targets this fall.

It is easy to forget how close the fight between England and Germany was for Jamal Musiala, with the talented Bayern Munich breakout star eventually deciding on Germany. He took his role of exciting young talent into the 2021 European Championship and 2022 World Cup, but that role has evolved by 2026. Musiala now has the #10 for Germany and nears his mid-20s. Despite coming off of a big injury, he is one of the faces of the Germany team.
This conflict was brought up to Musiala by Sport Bild (as captured by iMiaSanMia), who queried Musiala on shedding his old one as exciting dribbler for his new role.
"Of course I still enjoy dribbling, and I'm getting a better feeling for it all the time. But you can't forget that coming back from an injury takes time," Musiala cautioned. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A South Korean satellite has captured the first pictures of the moon's fresh crash scene caused by a stray ****** eX rocket.
The Korea Aerospace Research Institute's Danuri ****** ecraft flew over the impact site soon after the Falcon 9 upper stage inadvertently plowed into the moon on Wednesday. Danuri made multiple passes, snapping photos from lunar orbit that were released by the ****** e agency Thursday.
The terrain is noticeably darker where the rocket hit and carved out a crater, sending dust and rock everywhere. Korean ****** e officials said Danuri gathered before and after shots.
NASA expects its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to fly over the crash site next week to view the aftermath.

When it comes to the Carolina Panthers, there are four greats who stand out above all others.

And the 10-to-12-year-old Vermont state champion all-stars played like veterans.
Behind Mickey Brown's two-hit shutout, Camels Hump blanked Portsmouth, New Hampshire, 1-0, in the opening round of double-elimination tournament at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol, Connecticut.
In his 73-pitch gem, Brown fanned seven batters and walked just one batter. He closed out the game with a swinging strikeout.
Camels Hump, which captured its first state **** le last weekend, advances to the winner's bracket semifinals on Monday, Aug. 10. Bayern Munich's ongoing quest to offload João Palhinha- as well as Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza- reportedly got a boost via interest from Aston Villa. The Villans, who Bayern beat 2-1 in a recent friendly, have lost star midfielders Amadou Onana to an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United. Despite the recent addition of the impressive João Gomes, they need more personnel and Palhinha is a concrete target of theirs.
That last tidbit of news is something Damián Vidagany, Aston Villa's sporting director, confirmed to Bild reporter Nico Linner.
"We need a midfielder because Amadou Onana will be out for the entire season, and João Palhinha is a very good player who would fit our plans," Vidagany stated (as captured by iMiaSanMia). "We are in talks, but there's currently no agreement. If anything does happen, it will always be on the basis of the big respect we have for FC Bayern. Our clubs are friends, and our relationship with Max Eberl, Christoph Freund and all the other people in charge is excellent. That is why I cannot and do not want to comment on any further details."
Of course, the problem is immediately apparent. Aston Villa wish to obtain a one year stopgap until Onana returns from his unfortunate injury, while Bayern wish to offload Palhinha permanently. How the two clubs reconcile that issue remains to be seen.
Perhaps the Bavarians will be willing to acquiesce and settle for a loan deal after all. The issue with Palhinha is that the club likely amortized the €51 million transfer fee and is still paying it to this day. If any potential loan deal can cover this year's amortization as well as the player's wages, perhaps the Bavarians would be willing to accept such a deal.

Texas A&M's 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State is just over three weeks away, while the Aggies have already completed two preseason practices since Wednesday evening. Overall, the takeaways have been varied, ranging from starting quarterback Marcel Reed's increased accuracy and confidence as a passer to junior wide receiver Terry Bussey, who bulked up this summer and improved as a route runner.
Sticking with Texas A&M's borderline elite wide receiver corps, former Alabama wideout Isaiah Horton brings much-needed size to a rotation built on NFL-level talent, led by Mario Cravers' elite twitch and quickness, paired with Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Bussey's track speed. After transferring from Mississippi State before the 2025 season, Craver reeled in 59 receptions for 917 yards and 4 touchdowns, developing immediate chemistry with Marcel Reed.
Reed and Isaiah Horton go back to their high school playing days in Tennessee, and while they have yet to play together at the college level, it's clear that after two practices, both players are on the same page. Horton's catch radius was on full display during Thursday's practice, captured by Texas A&M's media team after the senior wideout snagged Reed's well-thrown pass.
Horton is in line to earn the starting X receiver job, and, on paper, will open up the passing game for Reed, allowing Mario Craver to roam the middle of the field and allowing the redshirt junior to take more 50/50 shots downfield, which was not the case last season given the lack of size on the outside.
Losing star WR KC Concepcion, who led the Aggies in receiving yards and touchdowns last season, likely won't have a massive impact on new OC Holmon Wiggins' ability to push the ball down the field on early downs given his background as one of the top wide receivers coaches.

Aleksander Pavlović is the perfect example of a Bayern Munich youth talent breaking through to the first team and becoming a top player. While it is a rare thing for these examples in the last decade or so, the academy is trending in the right direction. When these players to break through to the senior team, it really is something special and Pavlović himself recently spoke upon his experience.
"I already had the club in my heart when I joined FC Bayern at the age of seven. Growing up in Munich, I was always a Bayern fan, and I went through every youth team at the club. It wasn't until the U-19s that I first realized I had a real chance of making it as a professional player for my favourite club. Today, it's truly special for me, a dream come true, to play for my home club," stated Pavlović, as captured by iMiaSanMia.
It is truly unbelievable to imagine such a dream coming true, but it hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows for the German midfielder. Pavlović missed out on the home tournament of Euro 2024 and several other big opportunities over his young career due to odd injuries and illnesses.
Luckily, it seems like that luck is behind him and while he didn't exactly shine bright at the World Cup over the summer, the future of the Bayern Munich midfield is in strong hands with himself and Tom Bischof poised to lead the midfield over the next decade. Chase Utley put the finishing touch on his Phillies legacy Friday night, and he did it with a speech that captured exactly what made him a franchise icon. The former second baseman was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame before the team's game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Citizens Bank Park, becoming the 51st inductee in franchise history.
Utley delivered an emotional address that reflected on what the city and organization meant to him over his 13 seasons in Philadelphia.
"You don't really just play in Philly. You survive it, you earn it, and if you're lucky, you grow from it," Utley said. "To me, this city is about passion, it's about emotion, it's about toughness, but most of all, it's about winning."
