Generating $1,000 a month in dividends is a simple process but it usually requires a substantial capital outlay. The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEMKT: SCHD) is perhaps the best dividend ETF for accomplishing this. Not only does it offer a much-above-average yield, but it's also backed by a portfolio of durable, high-quality companies.
That's exactly what you want in your portfolio, so let's run through the path for how to get there.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index. It starts with a universe of U.S. equities that have paid dividends for at least 10 consecutive years. From there, it examines the stock's dividend growth rate, yield, and several fundamental metrics, including return on equity (ROE) and cash flow-to-debt ratio. The 100 stocks with the best combination of these factors make the cut for the portfolio.
It's the combination of dividend yield and dividend quality that makes this fund so effective. The screens act as cross-checks on each other, so investors can get the best of both worlds. Choosing stocks based solely on yield can leave investors vulnerable to yield traps or potential dividend cuts. The quality screen here helps steer clear of that and gives people a sustainable high yield along with the quality portfolio.

Retirees need two things from a dividend stock: the check must arrive on schedule, and it must grow faster than the cost of groceries. This month's list covers five cash-generating businesses in five different industries: tobacco, net-lease real estate, gaming real estate, natural gas pipelines, and telecom. In every case, earnings or cash flow will cover the payout, and each company has years of payment history behind it. Several of them pay in November, including Realty Income (NYSE:O), whose next monthly dividend of $0.2715 a share is scheduled to arrive on November 13.

Going into Sunday's game between Juventus and Lazio, the Biancocelesti hadn't won a game at the Allianz since 2017, back when Ciro Immobile was banging in goals and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was blossoming into a full-on superstar. It was still the height of the Streak, before Beppe Marotta was forced out of the front office by Andrea Agnelli and Juve's long, slow decline began.
So yeah, a long time ago.
But that long unbeaten streak against Lazio at home ended with a thud. Juventus' attack continued to prove toothless, generating just two shots on target all night. They held Lazio to only three of their own — but the problem was that Lazio made the most of all three, ruthlessly finishing whenever they had the chance to polish off a 3-0 win.
Indeed, Juve were outplayed for much of the night. Whatever momentum they might have picked up from their last-second win over Celta Vigo midweek was nowhere to be found. They were on the back foot for much of the night, while Lazio at times played football that made you wonder where the **** Gennarro Gattuso was keeping this when he was failing to qualify for the World Cup with Italy seven months ago.
It was an awful game, through and through, and now it leaves everyone picking up the pieces.

Bayern Munich has made progress towards generating income from its campus this summer, with multiple sales of academy talents contributing to Bayern's overall summer transfer income — estimated at over €50M, per Transfermarkt.
It has been called the 'summer of the century' by Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß, according to an interview he gave to Kicker. However, the Bavarians are naturally hoping for more first team-ready products to emerge for themselves, to follow in the recent examples of Aleksandar Pavlović and Lennart Karl.
Via Kicker journalist Frank Linkesch, as captured by iMiaSanMia:
Speaking to kicker, Uli Hoeneß says he's very happy with the funds the club managed to raise in the summer by selling Campus players. Hoeneß has even called it "summer of the century", saying that when the Campus was established, he was thinking more about producing players for the first team than generating transfer revenue from sales.
Hoeneß calls the resulting income "a nice side effect," adding that the academy has long since paid for itself. And in an era of exorbitant salaries, it can also help ease the financial burden on the first-team budget.

We now have a better idea of exactly who the biggest creators are on social media. ESHAP and What's Trending have partnered to unveil the second annual Creator Map, a guide to the biggest creators by platform. And TheWrap has your first look at their findings.
The Creator Map will be unveiled later today at the first Jupiter Festival Miami, which is sponsored by YouTube. Evan Shapiro, media cartographer and ESHAP founder and CEO; Shira Lazar, What's Trending founder and CEO; and Jon Goss, CEO of the Lighthouse will unveil the project on the main stage of the event.
Described as the "definitive visual guide to the creator ecosphere," the Creator Map offers a data-informed view of the creator economy, an industry that can often feel confusing and chaotic from an outsider perspective. For the first time, the top 200 creators across Instagram, YouTube and TikTok will have both their follower counts and Affinity Quotient scores published on the map. Sponsored by Whalar Group and with data powered by Whalar's creator operating system Foam, the Affinity Quotient measures the depth of audience engagement and places a greater emphasis on active signals such as shares and saves than on passive interactions. That's an important insight as engagement rather than follower count has become the top metric in the creator economy. The Creator Affinity 100 list was first presented at this this year's IBC and identified 100 creators generating the greatest affinity among their audiences.
The map also identifies top creators across Snap, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Twitch, Pinterest and Rumble, along with the top Substack publishers and podcasters. Additionally, it identifies some of the top agencies, studios, technology tools, payment platforms and other companies powering the creator ecosystem. Check it out below:

When a farm sells for a lump sum, IRS rules split proceeds across five ******* et types, and only market cattle profits count as Social Security self-employment earnings.
In a hypothetical sale generating $500,000 in gains, only $100,000 from market cattle counts toward Social Security's earnings test, while land and equipment gains register $0.
Land gains escape the Social Security earnings test but still raise adjusted gross income, potentially making up to 85% of benefits taxable.

Generating $6,550 a month requires $2.25M at a 3.5% yield, $1.31M at 6%, or just $786,000 at 10%.
A blended portfolio of VYM, DIVO, VICI, JEPQ, ARCC, and SGOV yields 5.6%, requiring $1.4M while preserving some dividend growth.
A 3.5% yield growing 8% annually reaches $249,000 in income by year 15, while a static 10% yield stays flat and loses ground to inflation.

A target of $6,550 a month equals $78,600 a year. For a 66-year-old, that income must cover housing, healthcare premiums, travel, and decades of other retirement expenses. The amount you need to invest to generate $78,600 from portfolio income alone varies widely by yield. Here's what the numbers look like at three yield levels, using six income holdings as examples.

AGNC Investment has seen a mix of setbacks and gains in recent years, which raises a straightforward question for anyone looking at the stock today: Is the current share price meaningfully supported by the returns the business earns on its capital base?
Over the past 3 years, AGNC Investment has delivered a total return of about 48.1%, which puts real weight on whether those past gains are grounded in sustainable returns on the equity it deploys.
The mortgage REIT model relies on how efficiently AGNC Investment can fund and reinvest its portfolio. The valuation story therefore hinges on whether that capital structure can keep generating attractive excess returns after funding costs and hedging.
What if you looked at AGNC Investment through its earnings instead? See what AGNC Investment's 4.9x P/E says about the price.
For investors, the debate is whether AGNC Investment's current price fairly reflects the level and quality of the returns it earns on its capital.

Taylor Swift is reportedly generating nearly twice as much jersey search demand as her husband, Travis Kelce. This is according to a new study conducted across the US. The findings highlight how strongly Swift's connection to the NFL star continues to influence interest in football merchandise.
A new ******* ysis by Casino.guru found that searches for a "Taylor Swift jersey" account for around 77% of the search demand recorded for the most-searched NFL player jersey in the country. The figure would place Taylor Swift among the five most in-demand jersey searches if her name were compared directly with NFL players, the study said.
The research also found a notable gap between Swift and Travis Kelce. Searches for Swift's jersey were nearly twice as high as searches for Kelce's jersey across the US. "Search demand for Taylor Swift jerseys is also nearly twice as high as it is for husband Travis Kelce jerseys across the U.S.," Casino.guru data ******* yst Max Barlow wrote in the study. He added that the search volume would "place her inside the top five most in-demand jerseys if compared directly with NFL players."
According to the ******* ysis, Swift also generated more than twice the jersey interest of the state's leading NFL player, Jaxson Dart. However, the study measured online search volume to estimate potential sales interest rather than using audited retail sales figures.
The latest figures contrast sharply with the surge in Kelce's jersey sales after Swift attended one of his games in 2023. Swift watched Kelce play from a suite at Arrowhead Stadium on September 24, 2023. After her appearance, Fanatics told the ******* ociated Press that Kelce entered the NFL's top five jersey sellers. His merchandise sales jumped nearly 400% across Fanatics' sites, according to NPR. Before the surge, Kelce ranked around 19th among NFL jersey sellers.

Retirement changes how income works on the day the paychecks stop. Social Security covers part of the monthly bill, and the rest has to come from savings, an annuity, or a portfolio that pays cash on a schedule. Selling shares to cover groceries works fine until a bear market forces those sales at bad prices. Dividends let a retiree collect income and keep the same number of shares.

Christina Zhu, the head of Walmart's China business, remembers when Chinese shoppers did not have much choice.
As a child, she watched her parents wake up at 4:30 a.m. on Sundays to go to the wet market. "They had to haggle, and high-quality produce wasn't always guaranteed," Zhu, born in 1973, recalled at the Fortune Leaders Forum in Macau in September.
Today, Chinese shoppers are "probably the group with the most choices [in the world]," and they have become "the most demanding customers," she said.
Meeting those rising expectations has become the defining challenge for retailers in China, and Walmart has managed it better than most. It entered China in 1996 with a Supercenter and a Sam's Club in Shenzhen. Three decades later, the U.S. retailer is thriving in the world's second-largest economy even as other foreign brands struggle.
China represents 3% of Walmart's overall business, but it is growing, generating $24.6 billion in sales in its past fiscal year, a 19.3% jump. Sales grew 20.7% last quarter, faster than the 5.9% reported by the company as a whole.

A $700,000 inherited IRA forces the daughter to withdraw annually for 10 years, stacking on her salary and generating $182,580 in federal taxes.
If the father had converted at 22%, his $154,000 tax bill would have been $28,580 less than his daughter pays at her higher rate.
Converting only wins when the parent's rate is lower than the heir's, making a conversation about the child's income the essential first step.

His plan was simple: leave the IRA invested, take only the required distributions, and let the rest pass to his daughter. When he died at 82, the account still held $700,000. His daughter inherited the money, but she also inherited the tax bill, with withdrawals taxed at her rate during her peak earning years.

The most powerful force in investing is time. It's not necessarily about picking the best stocks or timing the market correctly; it's about time in the market. Over time, the stock market, as represented by the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), has always gone up in the long term.
The longer you are in the market, the greater your wealth will grow. This is due to compounding, where in later years your gains start generating gains of their own. While early growth may seem slow, it's the late-stage growth that will eventually turn even a small investment into millions of dollars.

On September 9, 2026, Independence Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:IRT) and Centerspace announced a definitive all-stock merger agreement. It creates a combined middle-market apartment REIT with a pro forma equity market capitalization of about $5.0 billion and a total enterprise value of approximately $8.1 billion, encompassing more than 44,000 units.
The combined company will retain the Independence Realty Trust name and NYSE ticker "IRT." IRT's Scott Schaeffer continues as Chairman and CEO. The management projects the deal will be roughly 5% accretive to 2027 Core FFO per share for shareholders of both companies.
The merger gives Independence Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:IRT) higher scale and significantly broader geographic diversification. The combined company will own 44,354 apartment units across 163 communities in 17 states, with 58% of pro forma NOI coming from Sunbelt markets, 27% from the Midwest, and 15% from the Mountain West. The overall footprint reduces reliance on any single regional apartment market while keeping substantial exposure to markets with strong population and employment growth.
IRT can apply its existing value-creation strategy across a much larger portfolio. Its value-add renovation program has delivered about a 16% historical return on investment. The firm expects to grow its Wi-Fi initiative and other technology and income-generating programs across Centerspace's properties. Management also expects approximately $24 million in annualized synergies. It supports roughly 5% accretion to 2027 Core FFO per share on a leverage-neutral basis.
The all-stock structure allows the companies to chase greater scale without adding acquisition debt. IRT and Centerspace expect the combined company to retain BBB/BBB investment-grade credit ratings and maintain a well-laddered debt maturity profile. Centerspace shareholders will receive IRT shares and own approximately 22% of the combined company. It gives them exposure to the larger platform. Management also expects the transaction to improve access to capital markets and reduce the combined firm's cost of capital over time.

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:LIND) announced on September 15 that it had acquired 60% of White Desert Antarctica and its new aviation travel business, Echo Charlie. Consideration comprises approximately $61 million in cash, plus approximately $6 million relating to acquired cash, subject to working-capital, cash, and indebtedness adjustments.
The purchase broadens the travel portfolio beyond expedition cruises. For investors, the test is whether additional bookings and cash generation justify the acquisition price and subsequent investment.
White Desert takes guests into Antarctica's interior, including the Geographic South Pole. Echo Charlie offers journeys aboard a restored DC-3 aircraft carrying 12 guests. These experiences add distinctive products that Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:LIND) could market to existing adventure travelers.
Cross-selling could reduce marketing costs per booking and encourage repeat travel across the portfolio. Established customer relationships provide a starting point; the financial benefit depends on generating additional profitable departures.
The company already operates a growing land-travel business. Second-quarter Land Experiences revenue increased 23% to $70.0 million, driven by additional trips and higher pricing. That provides a relevant commercial foundation for the expansion.

NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) announced on September 8 that it had secured a loan of up to $1.9 billion from the U.S. Department of Energy to support the restart of a shuttered nuclear power plant in Iowa. The Duane Arnold Energy Center ceased operations in 2020 after 45 years of service. The plant is now expected to resume operations in early 2029, pending regulatory approvals.
The federal funding is intended to help restore the facility and add reliable generation capacity as the US electricity demand soars to record levels amid the AI boom. To help meet the growing demand, President Trump is making efforts to accelerate the expansion of nuclear energy. He has signed an executive order to get 10 large conventional reactors under construction by 2030 and has also called for federal funding to support the restart of shuttered nuclear plants.
John Ketchum, Chairman, President, and CEO of NextEra Energy, commented:
"Restarting Duane Arnold is about delivering new power to meet new demand while generating billions of dollars in economic value for Iowans. Just as importantly, it shows how America can support rapid economic growth and rising electricity demand while helping keep power affordable for existing customers. By bringing new generation online to serve new demand, we can strengthen the grid, create hundreds of good-paying jobs and help ensure Iowa families and businesses are not asked to bear the costs of growth. We appreciate the Administration's leadership in advancing America's nuclear renaissance and share its commitment to an all-of-the-above energy strategy that expands supply, strengthens energy security and keeps America competitive."

On August 20, Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE:RCL) said it had completed a sale of $1.25 billion of notes that carry a 5.55% coupon and come due on January 20, 2034. The money is earmarked first for floating-rate term loans, with anything left over used to repay or refinance other debt, and the offering rode on a shelf registration filed on February 29, 2024. That sounds like routine upkeep. But next to an earnings beat and a flat third-quarter pricing outlook, the deal gives you a handy lens on where the company stands.
Start with the debt itself. Swapping floating-rate borrowings for notes with a stated 5.550% coupon takes some interest-rate guesswork out of the picture, and the notes don't mature until January 20, 2034. That matters because $2.7 billion comes due in 2027 and $3.4 billion in 2028. Against those bills, the company held $6.9 billion of liquidity as of June 30, and it added $250 million to its revolving credit line in July.
The business generating the cash is running well. On July 28, Royal Caribbean reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $4.21 per share, ahead of its own guidance on stronger last-minute demand, lower costs, and better results from joint ventures. Management then raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $17.73 to $17.87, which implies 14% growth. It also kept returning cash to shareholders in the second quarter, through $404 million of dividends and $199 million of buybacks. Booking volumes are running above last year, and 2027 bookings are tracking ahead of past years, even on routes that geopolitical events hit in 2026.
Beat or not, that $4.21 is still below the $4.38 from the same quarter in 2025. Costs excluding fuel per passenger cruise day rose 4.4%, and the cost beat came largely from the timing of expenses. Then there is pricing, where the story gets less rosy. Third-quarter net yields are guided to roughly flat against 2025 while capacity grows 8.5%, so the expected 8% revenue growth comes from more capacity, not from better yields. Management also says prolonged geopolitical activity has dented bookings on select itineraries. It calls the hit modest, but it is now built into guidance.
The refinancing also doesn't shrink the debt pile. New notes pay off old borrowings, so the total owed stays roughly where it was, and the company still expects net interest of $980 million to $990 million this year. Add roughly $4.7 billion of capital spending in 2026, mostly for new ships and destination projects, and it is clear this business needs a steady supply of capital. The April ship orders, Icon VI and Icon VII, extend that appetite, though their financing is already committed.

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has constructed an artificial intelligence (AI) empire over the past few years. ResMed Inc. (NYSE:RMD) is well positioned to benefit from the long-term growth of the global obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment market. Likewise, the company remains well positioned to benefit from growing awareness and penetration in the global market, backed by a robust product portfolio.
The company's OSA portfolio includes CPAP and APAP machines, led by the AirSense platform. The AirSense 10 series is one of the most widely used CPAP and APAP machine series. Beyond sleep therapy machines, it also offers nasal, nasal-pillow, and full-face masks, along with a wide range of accessories and related products.
The broad product portfolio offers multiple avenues for generating recurring revenue beyond the initial sale of a sleep therapy device.
Monkey Business Images/Shutterstock.com
In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, ResMed's revenue increased 9% year over year to $1.5 billion, supported by strong demand for sleep devices, masks, and accessories. Americas device revenue increased 6%, while total Americas Sleep and Breathing Health revenue rose 8%. Americas masks and other revenue increased 10%. Investing in high-yield dividend stocks can be a solid portfolio move and give investors some nice supplemental income. However, not all dividend stocks are created equal. At one point, Pfizer was as blue chip of a pharmaceutical company as there was. However, the stock's 6.2% yield and cheap valuation reflect a company facing challenges ahead.
Pfizer took on significant debt when it acquired Seagen for $43 billion in December 2023 to strengthen its oncology portfolio. That has left the company with over $60 billion in debt and high interest expenses. The company paid out $9.7 billion in dividends last year while generating $9.1 billion in free cash flow, so it paid out more in dividends than it generated in cash. That has continued through the first six months of 2026.

Osaic has been hit with a class action suit claiming the firm put its own profits ahead of customers in how it has handled its various cash sweep programs.
In the suit filed in Arizona federal court, Osaic customers Robin Nackman and Douglas Whittaker accused Osaic of a "dramatic underpayment of interest" to their customers, violating their "contractual, implied and/or fiduciary obligations" to the plaintiffs.
"Despite its representation to the contrary, Osaic categorically has not adjusted interest rates paid to customers based on economic or prevailing market factors, but rather has kept the sweep rates artificially depressed as to reap substantial profits for itself," the complaint read.
In the complaint, Nackman and Whittaker argue that typically, uninvested cash from customer accounts is moved (or "swept") into interest-bearing accounts, generating client returns.

On September 2, 2026, Phreesia, Inc. (NYSE:PHR) reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results for the period ended July 31, 2026. Revenue rose 10% to $129.5 million and adjusted EBITDA climbed to $32.9 million from $22.1 million a year earlier, a 25% margin. Net income reached $1.9 million, marking the company's fifth consecutive quarter of profitability. Management reaffirmed full-year revenue guidance of $510 million to $520 million and adjusted EBITDA of $125 million to $135 million.
The disagreement on Wall Street is about what that reaffirmation actually signals.
Wells Fargo found the highlight in Network Solutions, which grew 9% year-over-year, and pointed to the ProviderConnect pilot delivering a 4% prescription lift in a GLP-1 campaign that management says is generating follow-on business; the firm raised its target on Phreesia, Inc. DA Davidson stayed at Buy despite trimming its target on Phreesia, Inc. (NYSE:PHR) to $13 from $14, arguing the stock sold off on a reiterated guide even though network solutions activity is tracking more encouragingly than the prior outlook and AccessOne is opening a growing opportunity in alternative consumer payment options.

Wealthfront Corporation (NASDAQ:WLTH) defines this non-GAAP measure as net income excluding interest expense, income taxes, depreciation and amortization, stock-based compensation, fair-value changes in convertible notes, warrant liabilities and simple agreements for future equity, and nonrecurring expenses. Generating $2,200 monthly in dividends requires between $264,000 at a 10% yield and $754,000 at a 3.5% yield, with higher yields carrying greater principal erosion risk.
A blended portfolio of SCHD (35%), DGRO (25%), VYM (20%), and JEPI (20%) hits a 3.9% weighted yield requiring about $670,000 to reach the $2,200 target.
A 3.5% yield growing 8% annually doubles income in roughly nine years, while a flat 10% yield stays stagnant or declines if distributions are cut.

Turning zero into $2,200 a month in dividend income requires only two things: a target yield and the capital to support it. The annualized goal is $26,400, which lands somewhere between covering a mortgage payment and replacing a part-time salary. The capital needed depends entirely on the yield you choose, and the yield you choose determines how durable that income actually is.

Arista Networks (ANET) is a highly rated stock that is holding up well during the recent market weakness. Income investors who want to generate some option premium on Arista stock could look at a covered call trade.
A covered-call strategy is one way to slightly reduce the risk on a long stock position while also generating some option premium. The catch: a limited upside above the covered-call strike.
Let's look at how a covered-call trade on Arista might take shape.
Buying 100 shares of Arista Networks would cost around $19,800. An Oct. 16, 200-strike call option is trading around $10.25 a share, generating $1,025 in option premium per contract. Selling the call option generates an income of 5.2% in one month, equaling around 61% annualized.
If Arista Networks stock closes above 200 on the expiration date, the shares will be called away at 200, leaving the trader with a total profit of $1,225. That counts as the $200 gain on shares plus the $1,025 option premium received.

On September 14, Radiant Logistics (NYSEAMERICAN:RLGT) held its fourth fiscal quarter earnings call, and the headline numbers landed harder than a typical logistics update. Net income jumped 53.1% to $7.5 million for the quarter ended June 30, while revenue climbed 18.5% to $261.4 million. Look past that one quarter, though, and the picture gets more complicated, because full-year adjusted profitability actually fell. That gap between a blowout quarter and a softer year is what makes this name worth a closer look.
The fourth fiscal quarter was strong from top to bottom. Adjusted EBITDA rose 31.6% to $10.4 million, margin expanded 240 basis points to 15.5%, and adjusted net income climbed 34.5% to $7.4 million, all against organic revenue growth of 8%. Management credited the acceleration to US forwarding operations and international airfreight, including work supporting disaster relief after typhoon activity hit the Western Pacific earlier this year, plus airfreight demand tied to capital flows into global data center buildouts.
The balance sheet backs up the story. Radiant enters fiscal 2027 with zero net debt, $25.6 million in cash as of June 30, and a $200 million senior credit facility that was extended and restated in August, pushing maturity out to August 7, 2031, while its acquisition-focused accordion grew to $100 million from $75 million. On the domestic side, capacity has been exiting the truckload and intermodal markets, and spot rates and tender rejections moved higher late in the quarter. Radiant also launched a new independent agent program at Radiant Road & Rail during the quarter, extending its freight forwarding agent network into truck brokerage and intermodal, while Navegate is gaining traction, with one enterprise customer now managing more than 1,400 vendors on the platform.
The full-year numbers tell a different story than the quarter does. Revenue rose just 3.5% to $934.4 million from $902.7 million, a fraction of the fourth quarter's 18.5% pace, and full-year net income grew a modest 8.7% to $18.8 million. Full-year adjusted EBITDA actually fell 5.4% to $36.7 million from $38.8 million, and that figure included a $1.3 million First Brands adjustment. Strip that out and normalized adjusted EBITDA comes in at $35.4 million, an even steeper decline than the headline number suggests.
The operating backdrop stays complicated too. Ocean shipping routes remain disrupted by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and continued Houthi activity affecting Suez Canal transits, keeping capacity tight on key trade lanes. US tariff policy is generating elevated IEEPA-related filing activity, and Canada put new retaliatory tariff measures into effect in early September, adding fresh complexity for shippers moving goods across that border. Management itself acknowledged that the domestic truck brokerage improvement seen late in the fourth quarter is not yet fully reflected in the reported results.

Small modular reactors, or SMRs, are essentially miniature nuclear power plants. They can be built faster than larger conventional nuclear facilities. And while typically more expensive on a per-megawatt basis, upfront capital investment can also be much lower than that of traditional nuclear plants.
While the concept of SMRs has been around for decades, only two SMR systems have ever been commercialized -- one in Russia, the other in China. Both of those systems are relatively small in generating capacity.
Continue »
A new age for SMRs, however, is upon us. The AI industry needs more power quickly to support scaling trillions of dollars in data center infrastructure. Nuclear power can provide large amounts of stable baseload power with minimal refueling needs. And while SMRs are typically higher cost on a per-megawatt basis, the speed of construction of these smaller nuclear systems is highly attractive in today's environment.
The European Investment Bank -- the lending arm of the European Union -- is recognizing the potential of SMRs. On Sept. 4, the group announced a €40 million loan to Steady Energy, an SMR developer based in Finland. According to Reuters, "The loan is the first in a pipeline of SMR investments the EIB has planned."

"UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) Leads the Way in Reshaping the Insurance Industry with AI UnitedHealth Group is among the companies that have successfully integrated AI into various parts of their operations. As an example, automated transcription of patient encounters has contributed to lower levels of clinician burnout. Management reports that they are generating about $2 of value for every $1 spent on AI due to reductions in manual labor. We like this measured approach to implementing AI where it can provide clear operational benefits and attractive returns, which has been a key strategy of current CEO Stephen Hemsley.
