SpaceX (SPCX) has just delivered a fresh shock to Howmet Aerospace (HWM), putting one of the company's most closely watched growth opportunities under the spotlight. Shares of Howmet plunged 7.5% after CEO Elon Musk revealed that ******* eX plans to bring the casting of natural-gas turbine blades and vanes in-house, arguing that the move could accelerate the deployment of new turbines by as much as 18 months.
The announcement is particularly significant because Howmet has built a powerful position in the highly specialized turbine-blade market. The company reportedly holds more than 50% of the global market for industrial gas-turbine blades, while its gas-turbine revenue surged 38% in the latest quarter. The business has benefited from a surge in demand as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers require enormous amounts of electricity and utilities race to expand power-generation capacity.

On Aug. 30, Elon Musk tweeted that ***** eX (SPCX) will start casting its own gas turbine blades and vanes at a foundry in Texas. And when the richest man in the world makes a statement, the world takes notice. The market worried about the impact this could have on Howmet Aerospace (HWM), and its stock fell roughly 8% in a single trading session. The blades Musk wrote about sit in the hottest part of a turbine, and they are one of the main bottlenecks slowing down new power plants. Musk said building them in-house could bring turbines online up to 18 months sooner, feeding the power needs of ***** eX's AI data centers. Investors heard "new competitor" and sold. In my opinion, that may have been an overreaction.
The only reason ***** eX has to build its own foundry is that Howmet and the firms like it are sold out. Just four companies in the world cast these blades at scale, and together they control around 70% to 80% of the market. So several ***** ysts read the news as a sign of strength. Bernstein, which had lifted its price target to $328 just days earlier, called the selloff a buying opportunity. Citi and Jefferies pushed back too.

Baron Capital, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for its "Baron Global Opportunity Fund". The letter can be downloaded here. The fund achieved a strong quarter, gaining 26.7% (Institutional Shares), exceeding a 14.9% gain for the MSCI ACWI Index (the Index), and a 19.8% gain for the MSCI ACWI Growth Index. YTD, the Fund is up 20.6% compared to gains of 11.3% and 10.6% for the benchmarks, respectively. In mid-2026, market patterns show similarities to the previous year, following three years of over 25% gains driven by a healthy economy and AI investments. Elevated geopolitical risks persisted, with a pullback likely. A tariff-related market dip was followed by a recovery, reflecting a growing market indifference to geopolitical uncertainties. Similarly, airstrikes against Iran and subsequent tension led to an initial market sell-off, yet a lull in hostilities led to a strong market rally. The Fund noted significant outperformance, credited to stock selection and sector allocation, with 1,173bps of overall outperformance relative to the Index. It excelled in developed markets while underperforming in emerging markets, particularly due to a spectacular rise in Korea. The Fund remains optimistic about its investments and seeks attractive opportunities. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Baron Global Opportunity Fund highlighted DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC) as a new addition. DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC) manufacturers engine products, including complex precision cast components and nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys for aerospace, industrial gas turbine and transportation industries. On September 1, 2026, DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC) closed at $41.48 per share. Over the past month, DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC) declined 20.69%. DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC) has a market capitalization of $6.02 billion.
Baron Global Opportunity Fund stated the following regarding DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
We also initiated a new position in DPC Holdings PLC (NYSE:DPC), a leading manufacturer of precision-cast superalloy components – the turbine blades, vanes, and structural castings that must perform under very harsh operating conditions including very high temperatures (1000c) and high pressure. These parts go into both commercial aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines (IGT) that generate electricity. The company occupies a hard-to-replicate market positioning as a critical supplier of the inner parts of an engine that only a handful of qualified manufacturers in the world are capable of producing.
Since the company began its turnaround in 2020 after over a decade under poor ownership, with the leadership of CEO Mike Quinn, who spent over a decade at Precision Castparts, and Co Chairperson of the Board Dirkson Charles, who built and currently is CEO of aerospace and defense proprietary parts provider

During the press briefing, Wilder also said Wrexham were "in for half the division".
And while accepting Wilder's frustrations, Wrexham ****** istant Parkin was keen to stressed his side's transfer dealings are far more methodical than Wilder suggested.
"I did read that (Wilder's comments). Me and Chris go a long way back and he's no different to any other manager," said Parkin.

The two sons of a police officer killed in a crash on Teesside will lead out the Manchester United team as mascots for Sunday's Premier League match against Ipswich at Old Trafford.
PC Matthew Blades, described as a "proud Red" by United, was a regular at Old Trafford. The club have paid tribute to him in Sunday's match programme. His widow will attend the game with their children.
PC Blades and his colleague PC Tom Clough died in a head-on collision between their police car and a vehicle going the wrong way on the A66 near Middlesbrough early on 22 August. Five people in the other vehicle also died.
United said they learned of the deaths of the two officers "with great sadness".
"Matthew was a proud Red, a devoted family man and a police officer who dedicated his life to helping others," said the club, in a tribute in the programme.

BEREA, OH — After a judge's ruling gave former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright, among others, the option to return to college football and enter the transfer portal, his Cleveland Browns teammates collectively shrugged their shoulders and decided, eh, the portal has to be better than this.
Whether Wright or a roster primarily made up of players multiple years removed from college is allowed to join an NCAA team this fall remains to be seen, but the legal uncertainty is not deterring any of the Browns.
"Bro, I'm 34 years old. I've been in the league for 12 years," said veteran fullback Michael Burton. "Do you think I want to watch us play for the next 4 months?"
Eighth-year linebacker Quincy Williams echoed Burton's comments. "I mean, look around. Are you seeing all this?," said Williams while waving his arms like rotating helicopter blades and gesturing at the practice field.
"Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders? Those are our best quarterbacks! Come on, man. Stop it," said Williams before sighing and slowly walking off the field with a 1,000-yard stare on his face.

Sheffield United's owners face a winding-up order in the High Court on Wednesday which could mean the club incur a 12-point deduction in the Championship this season.
The case is related to the purchase of the club in December 2024 by COH Sports Bidco Limited (CSBL), an American-based consortium.
CSBL agreed to buy the Blades for just over £100m but, according to the club's former owners United World, still owes more than £35m from the deal.
The winding-up petition was filed against CSBL - not the football club - on 8 July, and is due before the High Court on Wednesday.
If the £35m is not paid, or an agreement is not reached, CSBL could be wound up.

Personal care products provider Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB)'s shares are down by 17% over the past year and are up by 9% year-to-date. It is currently undergoing a major transformation through acquiring Kenvue. Cramer has discussed Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB)'s acquisition several times and linked its performance with consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble. In his morning appearance on August 6th, the CNBC TV host discussed Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB)'s earnings and the tailwinds from the acquisition:
"I like the way Kimberly acted, even though they had a asterisk China diaper problem which I did not know about. The stock started down and then finished up nicely. I think that Chu is doing is a nice job. I think that Kenvue acquisition's going to be very good. Proctor was not as good, so I think that maybe you're going to start seeing, even though Proctor's much bigger than Kimberly, maybe we're going to have a new colossus."
On the 4th, Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB) had reported its second quarter earnings to post $4.19 billion in revenue that missed **** yst estimates of $4.22 billion. Yet, the firm also cut its organic sales growth and earnings forecasts. Yet, the shares close 3.7% higher on the 4th, exhibiting solid momentum after the report hit the wires before market open.
Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB)'s business model, i.e., selling personal care products, is resistant in a tough economy as consumers continue to spend on its products even if they reduce discretionary spending. Cramer's previous comments about the firm have also noted this, but the firm's sluggish revenue performance in the second quarter opens up concerns about its growth. Additionally, turmoil in the oil market stemming from the Iran war and other factors can stress its margins. This stress, at a time when Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB) might have to deal with high debt levels as well. Consequently, 15% of the float being short as of July-end is unsurprising.
On the other hand, the difference between Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB) and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) is visible when we compare their forward P/E. While the former has a multiple of 14.93, the latter is valued better through a 20.9 multiple. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG)'s ability to sustain high prices courtesy of its brand strength and market share (60% in blades and razors and 45% to 50% in fabric) is one of its strongest suits. It enables the firm to deliver stable revenue growth, as evidenced by a 2% jump in its June quarter sales. Additionally, Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG)'s stable defensive market lead it to commit to stable stock buybacks ($6 billion to $7 billion in FY27) and stable dividends (2.48% yield). Naturally, the P/E is higher, and the short interest is negligible at 1.17% of the float.

It isn't harsh to say that Calvin Phillips' time at Manchester City has not been a success. After signing for City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, the England international only made 32 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side. He spent the second half of the 2023-24 season out on loan at West Ham. Following that move, Phillips moved to Ipswich Town on loan for the 2024-25 season. From there, Phillips made one appearance for Pep Guardiola's side last season before going out on loan to Sheffield United. He made three appearances for the Blades before a knee injury ended his season.
Kalvin Phillips has now gone out on loan to Sheffield United for the 2026-27 season. All you can hope for at this point is that Phillips can play regularly and enjoy himself at Sheffield United.
Manchester City have confirmed that Kalvin Phillips will spend the 2026-27 season out on loan at Sheffield United. There was little to no chance of Phillips resurrecting his City career under Enzo Maresca.
Sheffield United have confirmed the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips on their official website. Speaking after his loan move to Sheffield United was confirmed, Phillips revealed that he has returned to the club he wanted to play for. He explained: "This was the move I wanted. My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that so I'm here to put that right."
"The squad is similar to what it was last year, I'm happy to see everyone and I'm looking forward to coming back fighting fit. It is a good feeling to walk back through the doors in Shirecliffe, I see that the pre-season has been tough and the lads have come out flying so I'm happy to start training and get involved."

Sheffield United have agreed a deal with Coventry City for the transfer of Gustavo Hamer, bringing an end to the Dutchman's three-year spell at Bramall Lane.
The midfielder is set to return to Coventry in a deal worth £6 million plus add-ons, with a medical scheduled to take place today as the transfer moves towards completion, per Sky Sports. The Blades are now preparing to lose one of the most influential attacking players in their squad just days before the start of their Championship campaign.
Hamer missed Sheffield United's trip to Mansfield Town in the EFL Cup on Sunday afternoon, with his absence immediately raising further questions over his future. United, however, were able to put his omission to one side as they made the short journey to Nottinghamshire and secured an impressive 3-0 victory.
The result ensured that Chris Wilder's side progressed, but attention away from the pitch quickly turned towards Hamer and his increasingly likely departure. Now, a deal has been agreed that will see the 29-year-old head back to Coventry, where he previously established himself as one of the Championship's most exciting midfielders.
For Sheffield United, replacing Hamer will be no straightforward task. During his three seasons at Bramall Lane, the Dutchman has more than justified the price tag the Blades paid to bring him to South Yorkshire in 2023. Across all competitions, Hamer has scored 21 goals and registered 26 ****** ists for United, giving him a remarkable total of 47 goal involvements during his time at the club.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has admitted that star player Gustavo Hamer is still drawing interest from other clubs.
The Blades drew 0-0 with German side Vfl Bochum in their final pre-season match. Despite continuing speculation on his future, Hamer played the full 90 minutes.
The midfielder has been heavily-linked linked with a return to newly-promoted side Coventry City. Hamer had previously played for Coventry before moving to Sheffield United for £15 million when they were promoted to the Premier League in 2023. The 29-year-old could make the switch from the Championship to the Premier League again this summer.
"I don't know if you realise, but I've just walked off the pitch," Wilder answered on Hamer's future. "I've had five minutes with my team and walked up to the media room. We'll check in, but Gus had a red and white shirt on today.
"You've seen his actions, you've seen his attitude towards the game, you've seen the positions he got in. You saw his reaction when a couple of things didn't come off.

Golf architect Kyle Phillips has broken ground on the course at the private Pandion Club in Estero, Florida. The new layout, intended to invoke the heathland courses of England with Lowcountry influences, is being built on the site of the former Old Corkscrew Golf Club that was closed earlier this year.
Phillips plans a par-71 course for Pandion Club, stretching to 7,220 with firm and fast playing conditions and a premium on strategic shotmaking. The new layout is scheduled to open in 2027 with membership capped at 280. The golf-only club will include a Lowcountry-inspired clubhouse and expansive practice facilities. The name Pandion is inspired by Pandion haliaetus, aka osprey.
The layout features sandy terrain that should promote Phillips' goals. Having built the top-ranked Kingsbarns Golf Links and Dundonald Links in Scotland and having studied courses around the world, Phillips said that heathland courses are situated on inland dunes, "like the ones we have in Florida."
Old Corkscrew and additional surrounding land was purchased in 2022 by The Hoffmann Family of Companies for $14.5 million, according to property records reported by the Naples Daily News. The Hoffmans purchased the Cottages at Old Corkscrew Golf Club for $4.5 million in a separate transaction. The Hoffmanns also own Old Collier Golf Club in Naples, as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Everblades.
"Everything we do at Hoffmann Family of Companies, we want to provide a unique, best-in-class experience for our guests, and Pandion is going to be no exception" Geoff Hoffmann, CEO of HF Companies' private equity arm, said in a media release announcing the start of construction. "From the moment that you drive through our gates, you will know that you have arrived somewhere special. You are going to feel like you are in nature, and this is an escape. We knew that his experience presented an opportunity to preserve the natural landscape that was embedded on the site, and that's something we are going to build around."

A lot of things weren't on my bingo card coming into this week.
I didn't expect a billionaire tech founder to show me a lot of vintage supercars they just purchased. That was fun, I love cars.
Speaking of cars, I also didn't expect a $900 bill for a one-hour service on my new car. But hey, at least the dealership took a video of my car being worked on, sent it to me, and said they thought the car was beautiful. That makes shelling out $900 for some oil, wiper blades, a cabin filter, and expertly inflated tires a little more palatable.
From a market standpoint, I didn't anticipate further beatings in red-hot memory chip names like Micron (MU), Sandisk (SNDK), and IBM (IBM). All three could now be considered crashed-out tech stocks. But only one is dead money, given my many chats with experts.
That is IBM.

Will Arnett shut down a personal question from Jason Bateman about his ex-wife, Amy Poehler, on Monday's "Smartless."
Bateman opened the podcast episode by teasing co-host Arnett because he doesn't fart in front of him and their third co-host Sean Hayes, while the other two are very open with one another.
The "Ozark" actor then asked Arnett if he ever ******* ed in front of his ex-wife. The "Blades of Glory" co-stars were married from 2003 to 2016.
"Will, did you ever poo in front of Amy?" Bateman asked.
"Are you looking for clicks?" Arnett jabbed back. "Are you trying to get something that we can clip around?"

Former Manchester United star Phil Jones could reportedly be on the move, with Sheffield United eager to add him to their backroom staff.
Jones, who is currently a coach at Blackburn Rovers is facing an uncertain future at the club due to the return of Tony Mowbray.
Mowbray will be given the chance to form his own coaching set-up, which leaves Jones in a precarious position. However, according to Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Sheffield United, who are undergoing internal changes of their own, are keen on offering him a way out.
Coming off a disappointing 2025/26 season in which they finished in 13th place in the Championship table, the Blades are looking to bolster their ranks to ensure there is no repeat of the same.
Chris Wilder's backroom staff is heading for a shake-up. Long-time ***** istant Alan Knill looks set to leave Bramall Lane and there's also uncertainty around Guilherme Ramos.
