LONDON/SINGAPORE/TOKYO, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Six weeks after hitting a four-decade low against the dollar, the tide appears to be turning for the battered yen as a host of factors finally smoke out traders who have spent years betting against the ****** anese currency.
While central bank rate hikes and record currency intervention have failed to provide lasting support for the yen, new tailwinds from capital repatriation, unwinding carry trades and U.S. political pressure are now giving short speculators cause to rethink their long-term game.
The yen is on track for a roughly 2% surge against the greenback this week — the most since a rare joint U.S. and ****** an intervention at the end of July to lift the yen.
"The market psychology around the yen appears to be changing," said Rong Ren Goh, a fixed income portfolio manager at Eastspring Investments. "Investors seem increasingly reluctant to aggressively short the JPY (yen), particularly with the prospect of a BOJ rate hike in September adding another layer of risk to the trade."

JACKSONVILLE — Ty Sims got his first collegiate interception with Jacksonville State football on Saturday.
With time winding down in the first quarter, Sims extended and grabbed an interception at the 10-yard line. He stumbled to the ground before getting up and returning the pick 84 yards to the Gamecocks ' five-yard line, after almost getting in the end zone.
The return was called back due to a block in the back but the Gamecocks were able to march down the field as Caden Creel found Jamill Williams for the third time on Saturday, this time a 30-yard connection. The Gamecocks led 21-0 with 11:30 left in the second quarter before the game entered a weather delay.
Sims was an all-state selection at Gadsden City, scoring five touchdowns and seven tackles on the year. He appeared in the North Dakota State game but did not record any stats.

At first glance, that **** ysis seems wrong. In their latest quarters, Azure grew by 43%, while AWS grew by 37%. But that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm looking more at the trend lines, and it's clear that AWS' growth is accelerating rapidly. During Q1, AWS's growth rate was 28%. In Q4 2025, its growth rate was 24%. Rewinding to Q3 2025, its growth rate was 20%. That's some rapid acceleration over the past year, and considering Amazon is still pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into expanding its cloud computing capacity, I won't be surprised to see AWS' growth rate continue to accelerate over the next few quarters.

The basis of Moderna, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:MRNA) recent transition is its co-development partnership with Merck. Together, the companies advanced an mRNA-based personalized cancer vaccine designed to prevent melanoma recurrence in patients who have already beaten the disease once.
Beyond oncology, Moderna has worked to diversify its commercial footprint. Management has navigated a sharp post-pandemic revenue drop by tightening operational controls, tightening operating costs, and maintaining a solid cash cushion of $6.9 billion.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding its cancer pipeline, Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA) remains a high-risk bet. The company continues to post substantial net losses, reporting a quarterly net loss of nearly $0.8 billion, along with heavy research expenditures needed to push its pipeline forward.

Similarly, Veeva Systems, which powers critical clinical and commercial operations for the heavily regulated life sciences sector, integrated advanced data capabilities directly into its platform. Rather than cannibalizing software licenses, artificial intelligence features reinforced the massive switching costs embedded in both platforms.
Despite solid execution, market skeptics continue to scrutinize the growth limits and valuation multiples of both companies. Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) trades at a forward P/E of 19x, showing market hesitation over macroeconomic budget tightening and the necessity for the company to rapidly monetize its heavy artificial intelligence investments.

LONDON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - OPEC+ is likely to keep its oil output policy unchanged for October at a meeting on Sunday, three sources close to the matter told Reuters, as the producer group completes the unwinding of one layer of production cuts this month and turns its focus to 2027 quota negotiations.
The meeting comes as the Iran war continues to disrupt oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, reducing OPEC+'s influence over prices and market share. Unlike in the past, the group's supply decisions now have a more limited impact on the market.
Sunday's meeting will involve seven core OPEC+ members: Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan and Oman. The countries have been raising monthly production quotas for most of this year. Their online meeting is expected to begin at 1100 GMT, two of the sources said.
In practice, however, actual output has lagged the planned quota increases as the wars in Iran and Ukraine disrupted exports from the Gulf, Russia and Kazakhstan.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Throughout Jared Young's nine-year journey in pro ball, a winding path featuring a stop in Korea and more than 2,500 at-bats in the minor leagues, the belief that he would one day thrive in the big leagues never wavered.

With a runway of playing time this season in a Mets uniform, Young has capitalized in a big way. The 31-year-old is hitting .265 across 91 games with eight home runs, 16 doubles and 35 RBI. Other than Juan Soto, who is in his own category offensively, Young is tied with rookie phenom Carson Benge for the highest OPS among all active Mets (.758).
"This is where talent and character finally ran into opportunity," Mets interim manager Andy Green said recently. "Opportunity just never met him before, and it's finally there for him. We're getting to see who he is ... and he's been everything we could hope for."

Ebbsfleet United will be able to start their season on Saturday after the National League lifted the club's suspension.
The Kent club had their first six National League South games postponed while they addressed ongoing financial issues, which had led His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to issue a winding-up petition over unpaid debts going back to April.
A takeover of the club last month, by new owner John O'Leary, allowed Ebbsfleet to fully pay HMRC and players.
"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, as well as our players and staff for their exemplary conduct through this difficult period," the club said on Wednesday.
Ebbsfleet have been handed a suspended six-point deduction by the league's compliance and licensing committee, which will be triggered should they fail to comply with as yet unspecified "obligations".

In a bit of a surprise move with the regular season winding down, the Mets have placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on waivers, SNY MLB Insider Chelsea Janes confirmed.
If Robert were to be claimed by another team, they would pick up the remainder of his contract. But it is not guaranteed that he will be claimed. Saturday is also the last day you can take someone on waivers and have them be postseason eligible
Robert has a team option worth $20 million for the 2027 season, making it unlikely the Mets were going to pick it up. Robert also has about $3 million remaining on his 2026 salary and a $2 million buyout for the 2027 option, MLB.com's Anthony Dicomo notes.

Summer might be winding down, but fantasy football season is only beginning to heat up.
We have entered the busiest weeks of the year for fantasy drafts as the NFL preseason comes to a close. Millions of drafts will take place in the final two weeks before the regular season kicks off on Sept. 9, primarily because it eliminates the need to worry about in-game injuries during the preseason.
And if you didn't learn your lesson from the Andrew Luck shocking retirement in 2019, perhaps Ashton Jeanty's injury scare or Ja'Marr Chase's departure from practice was enough to do the trick in 2026.
Rosters are almost set and you'll never have more information ahead of the selection process than you do now – so pick carefully. After all, fantasy football rosters aren't too far off from a teacher receiving the class list before school begins. One way or another, this is your team until the season ends – for the most part.

As we suggested Friday in our article about former Duke Blue Devil Mark Mitchell, the SEC's new rules about pros returning to college, and the transfer protocols in the SEC, the lawyers weren't done.
And that came to pass, first on Thursday, as one court in Texas granted a temporary restraining order in one case, and in another court in Louisiana on Friday, where a state judge temporarily stopped the league from applying its new rules.
Somewhat surprisingly perhaps, Arkansas coach John Calipari is strongly opposed to coaches taking players this late. He didn't specifically mention Mitchell and Kentucky, but that was bound to be part of his thinking. However, he has been pretty consistent about making players interests a priority during his career. He continues that here by noting that taking a player this late could correctly cause some trust issues.
He also pushed for the Protect College Sports Act currently winding its way through Congress.
It's all such a big mess. You wonder if much of it could have been avoided if the NCAA had pushed the five-year rule introduction back to 2026-27.

With fall camp winding down and a hyper-challenging date with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Lambeau Field fast approaching, I want to take stock of my expectations for the 2026 Wisconsin Badgers by hitting some areas of both optimism and pessimism for this squad.
Before launching in, I want to be very clear that I believe this to be a better product on both sides of the ball than the 4-8 one we saw in 2025 (and with an easier schedule). No, that's not the highest bar, but it's a good place to start. The big question will be: how much better? The WNBA regular season is winding down, leading to a last push for making the playoffs, seedings and awards. And the conversation for WNBA MVP is heating up.
The Indiana Fever have a pair of candidates: the ever popular Caitlin Clark and the record-setting Kelsey Mitchell. They've each had their moments that have helped their cases. Mitchell on Thursday set a WNBA record for consecutive games scoring 20 or more points, one she advanced Saturday to 22 by scoring a game-high 25 points in the Fever's 109-102 loss to the New York Liberty.

McAnally-Hilgeman Racing's Tyler Ankrum didn't have the race he desired, but he still got his desired outcome.
Layne Riggs won the race, scoring his series leading sixth victory on the season. Riggs didn't win either of the stages, as those stage wins went to Spire Motorsports' Connor Zilisch. In addition to winning stages one and two, the Cup Series regular led 55 laps as well. While these two driver had impressive runs, most eyes were following the intense points battle between Tyler Ankrum, Stewart Friesen, and Jake Garcia.
Coming into the race, Ankrum held a 20 point lead over both Friesen and Garcia, however that lead dissipated from the drop of the green flag. Very quickly in stage one, Ankrum battled brake issues and ran outside the top 20 for most of the day. While he struggled, both Garcia and Friesen chipped away at his points gap, as they gained track position throughout the race through strategy.
As the laps were winding down, the battle between the three drivers was within a singular point. It seemed like each lap, everyone was unsure on who was going to win. Then with 6 laps to go, everything changed. Tricon Racing's Gavan Boschele lost control of his truck entering turn one. From there, chaos ensued.
Before the first overtime attempt, things were looking bleak. Ankrum was running in 27th, but crew chief Mark Hillman elected to stay out on the race track, while many cars came down pit road. This move put Ankrum inside the top 20, and gained him ten points over the other two competitors.

When a high-profile investor suddenly exits a stock, people immediately ******* ume something is wrong with the company. In Sandisk's (SNDK) case, the opposite appears to be true. A new regulatory filing shows that Situational Awareness — the AI-focused hedge fund run by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner — built a large position in Sandisk during the second quarter, making it one of the fund's biggest holdings at more than $5.6 billion. Then an AI-based selloff hit in July, and the fund took heavy losses, forcing Situational Awareness to offload much of its public portfolio to Ken Griffin's Citadel.

China flooded the world with cheap solar panels a decade ago, driving Western competitors out of business. It did the same with electric vehicles, prompting tariffs from Washington and Brussels. In 2025, the pattern repeated with batteries. Chinese manufacturers who had built twice as many factories as the world needed slashed prices to keep them running, pushing stationary storage packs down to $70 per kilowatt-hour, 45% cheaper than the year before. The decline was steep enough to reshape what power companies pay for electricity during the most expensive hours of the day.
Chinese overbuilding was the biggest single force behind the price collapse, but it wasn't the only one. A shift toward cheaper battery chemistry, a crash in lithium prices, and a decades-long accumulation of manufacturing improvements all hit at the same time, each amplifying the others. On its own, any one of those forces would have pushed prices down gradually. Their convergence is what turned a steady decline into a collapse.
Cheaper batteries are good news for electricity costs and for the climate. But the conditions that made them possible are unwinding. Lithium prices have already rebounded, and the tariffs designed to counter China's trade practices are adding new costs of their own.
Chinese battery manufacturers spent the early 2020s building factories at a pace that ***** umed electric vehicle demand would keep surging. It worked for a while. By 2024, China produced enough battery cells — the basic units that store electricity and power electric vehicles — for every car sold on the planet that year. But global manufacturing capacity far outstripped what anyone needed. At roughly 2,600 gigawatt-hours, the world's factories could supply every battery the market demanded and still have enough idle capacity to outfit nearly every home in America with its own storage system.
Even as the surplus became apparent, manufacturers kept adding capacity through 2025. The world's battery factories nearly doubled their capacity to more than 4,000 gigawatt-hours of cells a year — more than four times what the market actually bought — with China accounting for more than 80% of the total.

Climate and energy solutions stock Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE:CARR) has taken a breather since its June 25 nearly 52-week high of $76.76, last seen flat at $62.73 today. The underlying $62.50 level has been a key level of support and resistance, however, while the shares are also nearing a trendline with historically bullish implications.

Washington DC has hosted presidential inaugurations, World Series parades and Fourth of July celebrations. Now, IndyCar is coming to the streets of the nation's capital.
The inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix will bring open-wheel racing to a temporary 1.66-mile street race winding through downtown D.C. The seven-turn course will guide drivers past some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument and several Smithsonian museums.
The race weekend, scheduled for Aug. 22-23, will feature practice, qualifying and the main race, giving fans a chance to see IndyCar drivers navigate a course unlike any other on the series calendar.
The race has already made its presence felt across downtown DC, with road closures and construction weeks underway as crews transform city streets into a temporary racing circuit. Barriers, fencing and other track infrastructure have been installed along the route ahead of race weekend.
For drivers, the circuit will offer little room for error, with tight turns and narrow sections replacing the traffic that normally moves through these streets. For residents and visitors, the race has meant detours and closures across parts of downtown as the District prepares to host its first IndyCar event.

Sheffield United's owners face a winding-up order in the High Court on Wednesday which could mean the club incur a 12-point deduction in the Championship this season.
The case is related to the purchase of the club in December 2024 by COH Sports Bidco Limited (CSBL), an American-based consortium.
CSBL agreed to buy the Blades for just over £100m but, according to the club's former owners United World, still owes more than £35m from the deal.
The winding-up petition was filed against CSBL - not the football club - on 8 July, and is due before the High Court on Wednesday.
If the £35m is not paid, or an agreement is not reached, CSBL could be wound up.

Perez Hilton's website resumed operations on Monday, as the blogger remains hospitalized following a livestreamed self-harm incident earlier this month.

Earlier that same evening, the blogger had hosted a TikTok livestream in which he appeared to repeatedly harm himself, winding up covered in blood in the process.
The TikTok livestream has since been removed from the site. On Aug. 5, the social media platform attributed the minutes it remained up to a "moderator error."

"At this time, Perez remains hospitalized and is receiving the medical care he needs," his family shared in a Sunday statement on PerezHilton.com. "His treatment is continuing in an inpatient setting under the care of a dedicated team of medical and mental health professionals."

Jaguar Land Rover reported a sharp fall in first-quarter profit for the three months to June 30.
Revenue fell 9.6% year-over-year to £6 billion (about $8.2 billion) as wholesale volumes dropped 9.2%. Profit before tax and exceptional items fell to £109 million from £351 million a year earlier, while profit after tax declined to £66 million from £248 million.

Bettors on Polymarket now put 81% odds on a Bank of **** an rate hike in September. Two weeks ago, that same bet sat at just 22%.
The shift comes as **** an's currency intervention loses its grip on the yen. The currency is on track for its biggest weekly loss in three months, unwinding much of its recent rebound.
The yen fell about 1% this week to 159.43 per dollar. That puts it on track for its worst week since May.
The currency has given back roughly half the gains from **** an's coordinated yen intervention in late July and early August. It was trading near 164 per dollar before that support began.
This is not the first time the boost has faded. **** an's April intervention followed a similar path, and the yen drifted back toward 40-year lows over the following months.

Yesterday our own Jeremy Nielsen described the Yankee offense no-showing like they were itching to just get on the plane and start their road trip already. Tonight felt like the bats somehow never left the tarmac, because aside from Trent Grisham poking one out of the stands there just wasn't anything to show for their at-bats. The Yankees wasted another solid pitching performance and allowed a starter on the other side that has been struggling to cut right through them in a 3-1 loss to Toronto.
Shane Bieber was on the mound for the Blue Jays, and he entered this game with a gaudy 5.48 ERA — naturally, that was of little consequence to this lineup. Bieber sat down the Yankees in order in the first inning, picking up strikeouts from Grisham and Spencer Jones, and worked around a one-out Jazz Chisholm Jr. single in the second. The third brought the first real instance of a pulse, Austin Wells leading off with a walk before getting forced out at second. Grisham stepped up and provided a single that should've made it a rally, but George Lombard Jr. was caught in the middle of trying to go for third and didn't get back to second in time, instead winding up in a rundown. A Ben Rice groundout ended the disappointing frame.

The fourth brought more opportunities to squander, as Jones led off with a double and advanced to third on a flyout from Luis García Jr. (Jones was briefly called out on the tag up, but a challenge overturned that call as he was clearly never tagged despite the throw beating him). Still, two more fly outs were all the Yankees managed, and the first one was too shallow for Jones to test with another tag up. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Yankees finally caught a break, Grisham crushing a middle-middle fastball out to right field to get them on the scoreboard.
