It isn't harsh to say that Calvin Phillips' time at Manchester City has not been a success. After signing for City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, the England international only made 32 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side. He spent the second half of the 2023-24 season out on loan at West Ham. Following that move, Phillips moved to Ipswich Town on loan for the 2024-25 season. From there, Phillips made one appearance for Pep Guardiola's side last season before going out on loan to Sheffield United. He made three appearances for the Blades before a knee injury ended his season.
Kalvin Phillips has now gone out on loan to Sheffield United for the 2026-27 season. All you can hope for at this point is that Phillips can play regularly and enjoy himself at Sheffield United.
Manchester City have confirmed that Kalvin Phillips will spend the 2026-27 season out on loan at Sheffield United. There was little to no chance of Phillips resurrecting his City career under Enzo Maresca.
Sheffield United have confirmed the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips on their official website. Speaking after his loan move to Sheffield United was confirmed, Phillips revealed that he has returned to the club he wanted to play for. He explained: "This was the move I wanted. My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that so I'm here to put that right."
"The squad is similar to what it was last year, I'm happy to see everyone and I'm looking forward to coming back fighting fit. It is a good feeling to walk back through the doors in Shirecliffe, I see that the pre-season has been tough and the lads have come out flying so I'm happy to start training and get involved."
