Bayern Munich scored five goals against Norwegian underdogs FK Bodø/Glimt. The rust in the Bavarians was evident as they struggled to build rhythm. The second half turned out to be a much better affair as Vincent Kompany's men found their feet and blew their opponents away.
Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise were frontrunners who woke the rest of the team up with their individual brilliance and finally reaped their rewards in the second half with deserved goals and ***** ists. Luis Diaz had an off day and was perhaps the only starter who couldn't pick himself up before the end of the game.

When the Bundesliga schedule was first confirmed and it became clear Schalke 04 would host Bayern Munich on jut the second Bundesliga matchday, the expectation was that Die Königsblauen would be swept aside rather convincingly. After all, the team's last meeting, three years ago, ended 6-0 to Bayern. That was under Thomas Tuchel's inconsistent Bayern. What could Kompany & Co do?
Stutter to a 0-0 draw, that is what. A dour Bayern team struggled to get out of second gear and really punish a defensively solid Schalke, who celebrate their first point since their return to the Bundesliga. Here are some observations on the match:
It is easy to forget after the match, but the first 15 minutes completely belonged to Bayern. The Bavarians' counterpress utterly suffocated the hosts, who simply could not exit their own half in those minutes. The team pinged the ball around, kept it well and utterly annihilated any counter attacks.
But, in what would become an unfortunate running theme throughout the match, the passing was far too slow and the players seemed unsure of their positions. One of Bayern's most important strengths is their ability to move the ball quickly from side to side. Players know their positions, know how to move the ball on and ping it back and forth. This forces the opposition defense to move side to side, which opens up **** e in the middle and opportunities to score.
This was missing today. It was clear that the chemistry among forwards Nathaniel Brown, Ismael Saibari and Lennart Karl was missing, but regulars such as Konrad Laimer, Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano also struggled to really get into the flow of things. It was possible to overcome these issues (Nathaniel Brown, after all, would still have given Bayern the lead if it had not been for a phenomenal save by Loris Karius in the Schalke goal) and perhaps the players would have grown into the match more.

Just before the transfer window closed, Bayern Munich academy players Luis Schäfer and Nana Gibson Adu moved on to pastures anew.
Bayern's official website confirmed Schäfer's departure. The center back came off of a fairly good 2025/26 season, in which he captained the U-19s and subsequently moved up to the U-23s. Filip Pavic's rising star, however, saw him relegated to a distant bench option for the Bavarians' second team and, after starting in the first match of the season, he has not gotten a minute in the 4 games since. One can presume he left for partner club SpVgg Unterhaching to get more game time, which puts an end to his 9 years at the FC Bayern Campus. Good luck in your future endeavors, Schäfer!
Meanwhile, Nana Gibson Adu's time at Bayern was much shorter. In fact, the striker came from Unterhaching at the start of their partnership with Bayern. He was seen as a huge talent and had already played in the 3. Liga at the tender age of 16. Unfortunately, Gibson Adu committed several disciplinary infractions and never really developed at Bayern. In 2025, a loan to Austrian club SCR Altach went through on deadline day but he had to return just two weeks later after he was denied a playing permit by UEFA. Bayern wanted nothing more to do with him, though, and banished him out on loan back to Unterhaching as soon as November that same year.

The Bavarian faithful finished second behind rivals Borussia Dortmund in profanity. On the flip side, Paderborn's fans were both the best-behaved and the most positive.

Bayern Munich's summer transfer window sees another talent join their U-23s. This time, the Bavarians' confirmed via their official website that they have signed South Korean left back Doyeon Kim, who arrives from Daejon Hana Citizen. The South Korean team, who play in the East Asian country's top division (the K-League 1), will part with their youth academy product for an undisclosed transfer fee. He will join up with head coach Dante's squad and provide valuable depth at left back.
Campus sporting director Michael Wiesinger had this to say: "Doyeon trained with us as a guest player for some time and was able to recommend himself for a transfer to our team. We have had good experiences with young players from South Korea in recent years and are convinced that Doyeon will also take the next step in his development in our second team."
Kim joins goalkeeper Jae-won Heo as the second South Korean signing of the summer, signaling the strong understanding Bayern have with multiple South Korean teams and the emerging benefits of such an understanding. The visiting Swabians held Bayern in check for a good while, and even knotted it up after the break to keep the drama going. But Bayern responded swiftly to the leveler and poured it on from there. Per a press release from Benfica, the Portuguese power confirmed previous reports of what it was going to pay for João Palhinha.
The total package consisted of €14 million of a base transfer fee, plus €5 million in potential bonuses for Bayern Munich as had been reported earlier this week:
Midfielder João Palhinha, 31, has joined the Sport Lisboa e Benfica professional soccer team. The Portuguese international is transferring from Bayern Munich to the Glorioso, signing a contract valid through June 30, 2030. The agreement to acquire the player's full rights was finalized for 14 million euros, to which may be added up to a maximum of five million euros, payable based on predefined objectives. The contract includes a buyout clause in the amount of 50 million euros.
Palhinha's move was a long time coming and solved one of the existing roster overflow issues for the Bavarians as the midfielder was not in the plans for head coach Vincent Kompany. There was never a strategy for how to use Palhinha upon his arrival in Bavaria. Now, the 31-year-old will get a chance to revive his career in a comfortable setting.

Bayern Munich had to fight tooth and nail to overcome a surprisingly feisty Borussia Dortmund side, which the Bavarians managed with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Nathaniel Brown and Michael Olise. Despite nearly losing the match, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said he was pleased with the team's performance.
"I'm very happy with the win. Michael Olise and Harry Kane trained 3 times with us and were able to play 90 minutes," Kompany said after the match (as captured by X account iMiaSanMia). Ideal way to kick off the season!
Bayern picked up right where they left off last season by winning the first trophy of the campaign, the German Super Cup, against rivals Dortmund.
And yet, the Bavarians were far from being in steamroller mode. They did manage to produce a very convincing first half, during which they scored twice, led by an already twice-decisive Olise: first with an ****** ist for Brown, who beat Kobel with a left-footed side-foot finish, then by getting on the scoresheet himself after a Bellingham turnover and a solo run capped with an outside-of-the-foot strike.

Title holders Bayern Munich started the new season of the women's Bundesliga with a 4-1 victory at Union Berlin on Friday evening.
Klara Bühl's free-kick gave the Bavarians the lead in the 27th minute as they headed to the break with a narrow lead.
But Pernille Harder needed only two minutes after half-time to add a second for the defending champions.
Captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir added one to her name in the 60th, before Union Berlin pulled one back through Nele Bauereisen in the 79th.

Bayern Munich is now back amongst the big boys thanks to the intervention of Vincent Kompany, who was the club's last pick to coach the team. The fate of the club was literally in his hands, and that was a huge influence in his work with the Rekordmeister so far
"I got to know many big teams. I played 11 years at City. Bayern Munich's ongoing quest to offload João Palhinha- as well as Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza- reportedly got a boost via interest from Aston Villa. The Villans, who Bayern beat 2-1 in a recent friendly, have lost star midfielders Amadou Onana to an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United. Despite the recent addition of the impressive João Gomes, they need more personnel and Palhinha is a concrete target of theirs.
That last tidbit of news is something Damián Vidagany, Aston Villa's sporting director, confirmed to Bild reporter Nico Linner.
"We need a midfielder because Amadou Onana will be out for the entire season, and João Palhinha is a very good player who would fit our plans," Vidagany stated (as captured by iMiaSanMia). "We are in talks, but there's currently no agreement. If anything does happen, it will always be on the basis of the big respect we have for FC Bayern. Our clubs are friends, and our relationship with Max Eberl, Christoph Freund and all the other people in charge is excellent. That is why I cannot and do not want to comment on any further details."
Of course, the problem is immediately apparent. Aston Villa wish to obtain a one year stopgap until Onana returns from his unfortunate injury, while Bayern wish to offload Palhinha permanently. How the two clubs reconcile that issue remains to be seen.
Perhaps the Bavarians will be willing to acquiesce and settle for a loan deal after all. The issue with Palhinha is that the club likely amortized the €51 million transfer fee and is still paying it to this day. If any potential loan deal can cover this year's amortization as well as the player's wages, perhaps the Bavarians would be willing to accept such a deal.

If one wishes to take a closer look at what the Global Academy is, this is the place to look. The TLDR is that, since 2023, Bayern invites a 18 U-18 players to a one year training camp that spans an entire season. Maycon Cardozo started the 2025/26 season as part of Bayern Munich's U-19s. He ended it having been promoted to the U-23s and playing twice for the Bavarians' senior team. The Audi Summer Tour kicked off in the Korean island of Jeju with Bayern Munich taking on Jeju SK FC. The Bavarians fielded a lot of young players for a large portion of the match and the 2-1 lead is a result of the Bayern youth's hard work. While a few of the first team players came on later in the game, they could not affect the scoreboard despite some good chances. Here are the match awards from this hard fought game although it was a friendly on paper.
The Brazilian was a live wire for Jeju. Aiás was not only a finishing threat, but also had the skill to set up one of his teammates. Jeju's goal came off some sheer brilliance from the Brazilian forward. His rainbow flick near the goal line completely flummoxed Kim Min-jae. He found his partner Chang-Min Lee who pulled back his marker in the very last moment to drift into open ***** e. That was all Jeju needed to equalize. It was a brilliant goal from the setup by Aiás to the finish by Lee. Aiás was also the joint highest dribbler of the game with Bayern's Guido Della Rovere.
The Bayern backline suffered from poor communication. Dayot Upamecano did not travel for the tour and is on an extended holiday after France's deep run in the World Cup. The Frenchman's absence along with Jonathan Tah starting on the bench exposed the lack of leadership and co-ordination in the defense. The duo of Hiroki Itō and Kim Min-jae should have done better being the seniors on the pitch. While Jeju's goal was brilliant, there were gaps in the box throughout the first half that could have led to more goals conceded.

The Portuguese international's reading of the game allowed him to shield his defenders and the passing lanes in between. A good game for Palhinha and maybe under Vincent Kompany can become a crucial sub in Champions League knockouts.
The young midfielder showed once again why he is Bayern's present and future in midfield. His time at left-back last season further honed his defensive skills and that has improved his game in the middle. Bischof can really throw a tackle if he needs to. With two tackles and just three passes misplaced, the 21 year-old is the best box-to-box midfielder under Kompany at the moment. Additionally, Bischof is miles ahead of Joshua Kimmich with his corner kicks which will be a welcome change in that direction.

With Bayern Munich's 2-1 preseason victory over Jeju SK in the books, the Bavarians have now won 2 of their 3 preseason friendlies. Their 4th friendly, however, will be against Europa League winners Aston Villa. It represents a big step up from the previous opposition and will test how well the players have returned from their breaks.
One of those players is Nathaniel Brown, who of course joined Bayern over the summer. Finding his way into the flow of things at Bayern, he is happy with how things are going and is excited for the match against Villa.
"It's going well. We've played two games so far and won both of them," Brown said after the friendly against Jeju (as captured by iMiaSanMia). "I still need to get to know the guys better, especially on the pitch during matches. I'm really enjoying it. Of course, it's pretty tough running in these temperatures. I felt it myself as well. But I think it'll benefit us in the long run.
"Against Aston Villa, we'll be facing a different kind of opponent. It'll be a very good test for us, one that will show us where we stand, and we'll be looking to rise to the challenge."
The match will, of course, not be indicative of the team's real strength with several players missing and weeks to go until the first competitive game of the season. But it will be an interesting barometer to see just how far Bayern are. And perhaps the Bavarians can finally their first ever match against the Villains, even if it is just a friendly.

Bayern Munich was rumored to have interest in a few defenders during the summer, but nothing material emerged when it came to center-backs.
As it stands, the Bavarians seem content to go into the season with Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Kim Min-jae, and Hiroki Itō as the quartet in central defense.
"We're talking about competition, which I like and which is something I've personally experienced. I played in the same roles as Minjae, Upamecano, and Tah. The most important thing is proving yourself on the pitch. I have to compliment Minjae: the way he presents himself, the way he performs on the pitch – and the fact that he doesn't talk. He always has the right answer in every situation: his performances have always been top-notch for us. For me, it's important to see him deliver the way he does. And accordingly, the others have to deliver as well. That's what I want in every position, not just at center-back," Kompany said (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
As of now, Upamecano and Tah seem to be far clear of Kim and Itō, but there could be an opportunity for more playing time if Kompany opts to use his bench more to keep players healthy and fresh. Maybe, Kim and Itō will get ample chances to prove themselves along the way this season — something that might benefit the club.

How ironic that it would happen during duty for U-23s. In the final friendly match before Bayern Munich's U-23 season premiere, two U-19 talents filled in for those making their debuts for the Bavarians' senior team and duly picked up serious injuries. Bayern's official website has the details:
Painful news for Thibault Maspimby and Leopold Schmid : The [center back and defensive midfielder] suffered injuries in the FC Bayern Amateurs ' final pre-season friendly against SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball (1-3 ) on Sunday afternoon and will be sidelined for the time being. Maspimby, who came on as a substitute in the second half and made his debut for the Amateurs, suffered a knee injury. Schmid is out for now due to a forearm injury. We wish you both a speedy and full recovery!
Leopold Schmid had risen to prominence in the U-19s following David Santos Daiber's promotion to the U-23s in January 2026 and did an impressive job of filling the hole left behind. He would have hoped to have retained that momentum and perhaps push for a winter promotion to the U-23s of his own. He will need to regain the momentum now.
Thibault Maspimby, in the meantime, was an ever present for the U-17s last season and would have been so for the U-19s this season, as well. Hopefully this knee injury will turn out to be one of the less severe ones.

There were rumors floating around in the spring that Bayern Munich would consider a move for Atalanta attacker Charles De Ketelaere.
The 25-year-old drew attention to himself with a strong showing in the World Cup, but it does not look like he will be joining the Bavarians any time soon:
When I was there at the press conference with Max Eberl, I thought it would be wise to ask Bayern's director of sport about the links to Charles De Ketelaere. He was laughing when I asked him if it was true or not true that the Belgian was on the list at Bayern Munich, and told me that it's "not true."
It is so odd to be in the heart of the transfer window with little-to-no hope for Bayern Munich to make a move. The roster is strong, deep, and settled and De Ketelaere, while interesting, would be a true luxury move at this point.
It can be ****** umed that the acquisition of Ismael Saibari killed any chance of Bayern Munich picking up the Belgian.
