Bayern Munich could have another option for midfielder João Palhinha as Benfica might have some interest in the 31-year-old:
Benfica are currently the club showing the most interest in João Palhinha and are preparing a bid in the region of €20m fixed plus €5m in performance related add-ons. Benfica coach Marco Silva, who worked with Palhinha at Fulham, sees him as his desired target in midfield and wants to reunite with him. Palhinha is very interested in a return to Portugal/Lisbon.
At this point, Bayern Munich might not care too much about where Palhinha goes, just as long as he takes his €12 million salary package off of its books. Getting that much would be a steal for the Bavarians, who have no use for Palhinha.
Arsenal might be ready to drop a ton of look on Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers…or they are — at least — thinking about it:
Arsenal must meet Aston Villa’s valuation if they want to sign attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers, according to Football Insider. The Gunners are believed to be at the front of the queue for the 23-year-old but, with five years remaining on his contract, Villa are expected to stand firm with their demands of a £130 million transfer fee. Rogers scored 10 goals in 37 Premier League matches last season, and is one of the top names on manager Mikel Arteta’s shortlist.

Midfielder João Palhinha is headed back to Bayern Munich, at least temporarily. After Tottenham Hotspur wished him well, Sporting CP was supposed to be his next destination.

Per information from Sky Sports News editor Lyall Thomas, Palhinha could be set for a move back to Sporting Lisbon, where he played before he made the move to Fulham in the Premier League, gaining prominence. Even before the Premier League season was over and Tottenham avoided relegation to the English Championship, Sporting Lisbon had been monitoring Palhinha's situation, knowing that Tottenham were not yet sure whether they would buy him at the end of his Bayern loan spell. Sporting were also aware that Palhinha didn't likely have a future at Bayern, even with the departure of Leon Goretzka at the end of the season.
At Tottenham, they've already brought in Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United and they've also agreed a deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, so Roberto De Zerbi's midfield is getting more crowded, hence why they did not want to pursue the buy-on clause for Palhinha. They've also already brought in Jan Paul an Hecke from Brighton and Hove Albion for roughly 60 million euros, so there's not much budget left to make too many more expensive signings – free transfers a la Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth are more along the lines of what they can afford after already making some big signings.
Reflecting back, the 30 million euro buy-on clause attached to Palhinha's loan spell from Bayern seemed like a considerable fee at the time without the foresight of knowing how poorly Tottenham's season was going to go, but they've invested a decent amount in Tonali and Fernandes to try to revamp their midfield. If Tottenham had fared far better last season, the conversation and decision around Palhinha could have been far different for 30 million euros.

Tottenham Hotspur will not be signing defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old spent the 2025–26 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, establishing himself as a key leader. Palhinha finished the campaign as Tottenham’s second-highest scorer with seven goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, most notably netting the winner in a 1–0 victory over Everton on the final day to secure a miraculous 17th-place finish and preserve Spurs’ top-flight status.
Despite De Zerbi publicly praising Palhinha’s character and expressing a desire to keep him, financial realities and a major squad overhaul have forced a change of heart. While Palhinha was keen to remain in the Premier League, Tottenham have opted against a move for the Portuguese international after recently completing an astronomical £185 million double to land alternative midfield targets.
Spurs announced the arrival of 21-year-old Mateus Fernandes for £85 million earlier today and are expected to finalise a £100 million deal for Sandro Tonali as well. With these arrivals pushing summer spending past the £200 million mark, committing further funds to an ageing midfielder is no longer considered sustainable. Tottenham have instead turned their attention to attacking targets, with French starlet Eli Junior Kroupi now the priority.
For Palhinha, the future remains highly uncertain. A return to Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich is off the table, as the German giants have deemed him surplus to requirements. While a return to his former club Sporting Lisbon remains possible, the Portuguese side are heavily constrained by Bayern’s steep valuation and the player’s significant salary demands.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Roberto De Zerbi and sporting director Johan Lange have held talks with Lucas Bergvall, according to The Telegraph. The Sweden international has expressed a desire to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club as he is concerned over his playing opportunities. Bergvall started in just one of the seven Premier League games De Zerbi oversaw last term and was substituted during the second-half of that game – against Sunderland. The 20-year-old came off the bench in his other four appearances under the Spurs boss and is keen to leave the North London club.
However, Tottenham insist Bergvall is not for sale, and both De Zerbi and Lange have **** ured him of his part in the club's future. He made 23 Premier League appearances for Spurs last season, weighing in with three **** ists and one goal. He also played in ten games across other competitions, starting 17 times in total. The Lilywhites are looking to strengthen in the middle of the park and want to sign both Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali and West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes if possible.
Signing both players could see Bergvall struggle for more playing chances, and he could still look to leave if the duo arrive. He prefers playing in the number eight position, which does not appear best suited to the 4-2-3-1 system De Zerbi used at the end of last season. It is something which has also been noticeable in training. The Italian preferred deploying Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha in front of his defence as Tottenham chased safety, while Conor Gallagher featured in the number 10 role.
