EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Quinten Martinez, pumping gas under a hot South Texas sun, remembers a time when fueling up didn't require difficult decisions.
"Is it going to be groceries this week?" asked the 28-year-old Amazon delivery driver as he watched the numbers tick higher. "Is it gonna be getting gas in our tank to go to work?"
He shook his head when asked about President Donald Trump's **** ertion last week that higher gas prices are a small price to pay for the war with Iran.
"I don't feel like it's a good trade-off," Martinez said. "I don't feel like this is good for anyone."

Carrier-vetting platform Highway is putting its balance sheet behind its fraud-detection product: if a broker moves freight using Highway's guarantee standard and loses a load, Highway writes a check for $100,000. The company's chief commercial officer said the program covers the vast majority of carrier capacity in North America — and has paid out only once across roughly one million loads.
Of the approximately 175,000 carriers that move freight for freight brokers, Highway says more than 82% qualify for the guarantee tier. "What I would tell you is the industry keeps trying to solve for the bottom 18% of the market," the CCO said. "And what we're saying is if you will just move your freight to this cohort of carriers, which is the majority of capacity in North America, not only will you be fine, but Highway will stand behind it with a performance guarantee."
"The average cargo theft is not the $100,000, it's $250,000. This idea that a motor carrier can just show up and say, hey man, I'm gonna need this cargo, it's $250 grand, I'm good for it, is bananas."

Marshall Faulk was not happy with his team's resounding 77-6 loss to the University of Houston on Saturday. The matchup was one of several money games FCS HBCU programs played over the past couple of weeks, and it was Faulk's first money game. In comments obtained by Kevin Batiste, Faulk expressed his disappointment with the result and what it meant.
"That was awful. That wasn't really a game. That was a kind of a pre-season crash dummy test for Houston to work on all their good plays, and we didn't show up…I felt like, for the most part, the guys that we had in early, our guys that's going to play, I feel like they gave the effort. But let's just be real, okay? They're better than us. All right? They're better than us. They're ranked what, twenty-second? We're FCS. Everybody know what this is. Let it be what it is. A TikTok posted by phlynnmartin recounts a date from back in August 2024 at Melbourne frozen yogurt chain Yo Chi that the creator, who goes by Phlin or Flynn, said ended with an unexpectedly large bill. The 38-year-old issued a "final warning" to her family after another public clash with her mother, Linda Hogan, threatening to release private communications if her name continues to be brought into their ongoing family dispute.

Kishan, who captained East Zone in the final against South Zone, had a light-hearted exchange with his 15-year-old deputy over who should get the credit for the successful DRS calls during the match.
Kishan had a memorable final, scoring more than 350 runs across the two innings, including a stunning 270 in the first innings, and was named Player of the Match.
Kishan jokingly claimed that Sooryavanshi had taken all the credit for the DRS calls, even though the captain was the one who was initially going to take the reviews.
"Yeh sab review mein credit le hi liya hai har jagah. Bhale main lene waala tha review, but aake mast bol deta tha main aapke paas aa jaata hu. Phir toh internet will be like: Vaibhav! My goodness! Vaibhav is the one! Toh bohot acche se isne woh kaarya nibhaya hai. (I am very happy (He has taken all the credit for the review everywhere. Packers running back Josh Jacobs will miss the first game of the season, and likely at least five more, after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property. His head coach remains in his corner.
Asked on Friday if the development changes his opinion of Jacobs, coach Matt LaFleur said it does not.
"Well, yeah, because I know the guy, and I know the character of the guy, so I've said it many times," LaFleur told reporters. "And unfortunately, situations occur in life and it's just an unfortunate situation."
LaFleur then was asked about the rationale for keeping Jacobs on the roster, given his plea.
"Yeah, I'm not, guys — I'm not gonna get into any of this until the league completes their investigation," LaFleur said.

Way will begin his 13th season with the team on Sunday and he announced on Thursday that he expects it to be his final one as an NFL player.
"I am pretty sure this is gonna be my last season," Way said, via Nicki Jhabvala of TheAthletic.com.
Way joined the Commanders in 2014 after being waived by the Bears and he has appeared in every game for the team over the last 12 years. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2019. Charles Barkley, a former NBA player, believes the San Antonio Spurs have a promising future. The Spurs already have Victor Wembanyama, a 7-foot-4 superstar who is at the center of the team's foundation. They also have De'Aaron Fox, a promising backcourt star veteran. Shohei Ohtani's return to the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup Monday, Sept. 7 wasn't exactly a return to form just yet for the back-to-back National League MVP.
Back in his usual spot atop the batting order, Ohtani went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk in a 6-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Results aside, however, manager Dave Roberts was pleased with how Ohtani's swing looked compared to five days ago.
But as far as when Ohtani might return to the mound for the defending World Series champions, that news was rather bleak. Ohtani told reporters postgame that he doesn't expect to pitch again this season.
"Most likely no," Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton when asked if he's still working towards getting back on the mound. "I'm gonna be focusing on hitting moving forward."
Ohtani has not pitched in a game since July 3 due to lingering injuries in his left knee and right bicep.

The "Basic Instinct" star said that she saw orbs of light that seemed to share premonitions.
Stone opened up about the unusual visions she had following her near-death experience. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the actress revealed in Mayim Bialik's "Breakdown" that she was seeing "orbs" that seemed to talk to her.
She said, "When I was laying on the couch, sleeping and awake, these orbs sort of presented themselves to me. These five orbs presented themselves to me and they sort of talked to me, but in a digital language."
"I just kept saying to them, 'I don't know if I'm supposed to stay here or if I'm supposed to die,'" she said. She continued, "And they said, 'You're supposed to stay.' And I said, 'I can only stay if two of you will stay with my son. Because I don't want him to be alone, and I think he's gonna get taken from me."

On Friday, the USC football team defeated Fresno State 39-0 at the Coliseum. With the victory, the Trojans improved to 2-0 on the 2026 season.
Following the game, USC head coach Lincoln Riley spoke to the media. Here are some of the highlights of what he had to say:
"Excited about the win. Really excited about the shutout. Obviously, it's hard to do. Doesn't happen very often in college football these days. We played at our standard for a higher level tonight, and that was really great to see on all sides. I think the excitement, energy in the Coliseum, energy with our football team was pretty consistent the whole way through. I think we played better as a football team than we did in week one. And that's what you got to do. It may sound boring, cliche, whatever, but that's how you get good, right? You just have to keep taking steps. I thought we attacked it on the short week. I thought the team really prepped well and was really just ready to play this game."
"We did some great things. He makes things challenging on the other side, and I think what you saw was our belief in it was even higher than it was in week one. When we went back and watched week one, we did a lot of good things. Obviously, the first unit did, but when they weren't good, it's just a lot of us not trusting it at times, and I don't want to hide under, 'Well it's young guys and the twos' or things like that. It doesn't matter;we're gonna need them all. So I thought we trusted it more, and saw that he's going to do some things, alongwith our staff, to put us in some good positions, and I thought our guys played fast and confident. They return some good football players on that team. So for us to limit them the way we did, especially stopping the run, allowed us to get a chance to get after them up front, and then created some opportunities in the secondary. We were still a little sloppy early in the run game. We made some explosive plays in the pass game, but we have a lot of work to do."

It's been roughly three months since the New York Knicks became champions of the basketball world. For the first time in 53 years, and after long stretches of misery, the franchise finally reached the pinnacle of success, but the journey was not easy.
In fact, throughout the playoffs, the Knicks found themselves down big on several occasions, only to mount amazing comebacks that defined their run. Recently, Knicks swingman Mikal Bridges spoke about the comebacks and the conditions that made it possible to survive overwhelming odds.
"The Cavs series, that Game 1, being down 22 in the 4th. Last year in the playoffs, being down a lot," said Bridges in a chat with Men's Health. "We had opportunities where we had been in the same situations and succeeded. It's having that faith of being here before. Obviously, it's different being in the Finals than any other playoff series, but it's still just another game. It's just having that belief and taking it one possession at a time; we've been here before, we've done it before. Ain't gonna get it back in one possession, still a lot of time left. A lot of us have been in the league for a long time, and we know in this day and age, with the fast pace and a lot of threes, that even down 27 points at halftime, you still have a lot of time. And being at home, having the crowd behind your back, it's gonna put pressure on them."
The Knicks went 53-29 in the 2025-26 season, and most critics had them a tier below the Cavaliers, Celtics, and Pistons in the East. In the playoffs, however, the Knicks dominated the field, going 16-3 in an impressive performance. Along the way, they faced fierce resistance, overcoming a 22-point deficit in the opening game against the Cavaliers.

Their unlikeliest win, however, was in the Finals. In Game 4 of the series, the Knicks went down by as much as 29 points, but somehow came back and won (107-106) off a buzzer-beater from OG Anunoby. It seemed impossible at the time, but the Knicks always felt that victory was within reach.

NEW DELHI: The no-handshake saga between India and Pakistan continued in women's cricket as Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana once again refrained from exchanging the customary gesture during the toss ahead of their Women's Asia Cup 2026 clash in Dubai on Saturday.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and elected to bat first, with the latest India-Pakistan encounter beginning with the now-familiar absence of a handshake between the two captains.
The no-handshake stance has continued across India-Pakistan cricket encounters since last year, with the protocol also observed when the two sides met during the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup in Birmingham.
The focus, however, quickly shifted to the contest itself, with Pakistan looking to post a challenging total after opting to bat.
"We're gonna bat first because we want to put a maximum total here. [Did the last game influence this decision?] Yeah, because we know we have a good bowling side, so we will try to restrict them. [How have you addressed the batting wobble?] We had a good chat with the team, and we just want to play according to the pitch," Sana said.
India entered the contest in a strong position after winning their opening two matches against Thailand and Hong Kong, China, and securing a place in the semi-finals. Pakistan, meanwhile, began their campaign with a win over Thailand and still have a group-stage game against Hong Kong, China after the India clash.
India have also enjoyed a dominant recent record against their neighbours in T20Is, having won nine of their last 10 meetings, with their only defeat in that stretch coming during the 2022 Asia Cup.
Harmanpreet said India were happy to bowl first, backing their bowling attack to restrict Pakistan to a manageable total.
"Our bowling is doing great in this tournament, and good to get the opportunity to bowl first. [How challenging is chasing?] I think while batting it's always about giving ourselves some time and then going for your shots. And I think the first two games we did really well in that department, and hopefully we'll continue. [On leading for the 150th time in T20Is] Great achievement. But the key is to keep enjoying yourself on the field, and that is key; I try to keep up with that. [What score would you like to chase?] We'll try to restrict them to a short total, so there won't be pressure while chasing," she said.
The India captain also entered the record books on Saturday, becoming the first cricketer — male or female — to captain in 150 T20I matches.
Harmanpreet's landmark came in the same match in which India are aiming to complete a perfect three wins from three in the group stage.
Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu is second on the list with 121 matches as captain, followed by Australia's Meg Lanning on 100.
