Per reports in Spain and England on Tuesday, Aston Villa are interested in bringing Matteo Ruggeri to the Premier League, and the Atlético de Madrid left-back is contemplating whether to accept an offer from the Birmingham-based club or hold out for a return to Serie A.
First advanced by Isaac Suárez in Marca, Aston Villa's interest in Ruggeri comes two weeks after the player's agent declared that his client was going nowhere this summer, even after Atlético completed the signing of Spain international Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen. Tullio Tinti and Manuel Montipó, Ruggeri's representatives, were present Tuesday at Atleti's training session in Majadahonda, where the 24-year-old worked with the substitutes and Madrileño players instead of the starting team.
Suárez describes the negotiations as fast-moving, and Villa want to sign the player "immediately." He claims that a transfer could be done "in the next few hours," which in reality means "sometime in the next few days."
Ruggeri had an uneven debut season in Madrid after Atleti signed him from Atalanta last year. After a difficult start, he found form in January and ended the season with seven ****** ists across 47 appearances in all competitions. But according to The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell, Ruggeri first the "physical profile of left-back" that Villa manager Unai Emery wants, as veteran Lucas Digne is set to join Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days. Emery's preferred target reportedly is Milan's Pervis Estupiñán, but negotiations for his former Villarreal pupil have not progressed.
It is not yet known how much money Villa are offering to sign Ruggeri. But seeing as he has four years left on his contract and was signed initially for around €20 million, the chances are good that Atlético will turn a profit by selling Ruggeri to England. With Grimaldo soon to join following his post-World Cup holiday, the club views Ruggeri's sale as necessary to make further additions to the team — including the much-desired signing of a center-back.

Cagliari are reportedly searching the market for a new right wing-back, as Lazio's Romano Floriani Mussolini emerges as a potential solution.
The 23-year-old is a Lazio youth product who rose to prominence following his Serie B exploits at Juve Stabia in 2024/25. Last season, the Roma native had his first Serie A experience at Cremonese, but he couldn't lock down a starting role. Following their relegation, the Lombardians opted against exercising their option to buy the player, who rejoined the Biancocelesti's ranks.
This may have been a blessing in disguise for Floriani Mussolini, who is now enjoying an impressive pre-season as part of Gennaro Gattuso's camp and is expected to play his football in Italy's top flight once more.
According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari have added Floriani Mussolini to their wing-back shortlist. Last season, the Isolani had Marco Palestra patrolling their right flank. The youngster cemented himself as one of the best players in Serie A and has since returned to Atalanta, who subsequently sold him to Chelsea for €55 million
Therefore, the Rossoblu need a new right-back/right wing-back, and Floriani Mussolini has been targeted, although he's not the only man on their shortlist. Di Marzio also reveals that the club is close to acquiring Atalanta's Daniel Maldini, who spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Lazio.

Milan have received approaches from both FC Porto and Lazio for Santiago Gimenez, but it depends on whether they would be prepared to let the striker leave on loan.
The Mexico international was a strong investment in January 2025 when signed from Feyenoord for €30.2m plus add-ons, but failed to live up to expectations.

Juventus talent Vasilije Adzic will join Sassuolo on loan with option to buy, plus a counter-option for the Bianconeri, so Cagliari instead look to Daniel Maldini of Atalanta.

There were rumors floating around in the spring that Bayern Munich would consider a move for Atalanta attacker Charles De Ketelaere.
The 25-year-old drew attention to himself with a strong showing in the World Cup, but it does not look like he will be joining the Bavarians any time soon:
When I was there at the press conference with Max Eberl, I thought it would be wise to ask Bayern's director of sport about the links to Charles De Ketelaere. He was laughing when I asked him if it was true or not true that the Belgian was on the list at Bayern Munich, and told me that it's "not true."
It is so odd to be in the heart of the transfer window with little-to-no hope for Bayern Munich to make a move. The roster is strong, deep, and settled and De Ketelaere, while interesting, would be a true luxury move at this point.
It can be ****** umed that the acquisition of Ismael Saibari killed any chance of Bayern Munich picking up the Belgian.

Santiago Castro is finally a Roma player.
The Argentine introduced himself with his first interview with the club.
"I wasn't expecting such a welcome; it was wonderful from the moment I arrived in the city. You could feel the fans' enthusiasm even when I came to play here. I thank the club and the club for placing their trust in me and giving me the opportunity to play for the team from the capital," he began, commenting on his arrival at Termini.
Regarding the timing of the deal, he then clarified that he pushed to come to the capital: "It was a short negotiation; from the very beginning, I pushed to come here. I had a meeting with the sporting director, where he explained what they wanted from me. I know what I can offer and how to help the manager, and as soon as I spoke to them, I chose to come here."
Castro also spoke about Gasperini: "I like Gasperini's style of play. He's been doing well for many years at both Atalanta and Roma, leading them to the Champions League. I'll do what he asks of me; I'm ready to play anywhere."

Derek McInnes will officially begin his reign as Rangers boss with a trip to Tannadice Park on Friday night. Despite snapping up seven new names, the Scotsman is expected to be backed with further additions before the window is slammed shut next month. But the focus must be on the upcoming clash with Dundee United, as a victory on the road should boost the Gers ahead of their crucial Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Białystok.
Although their most recent encounter finished 4-2 in favour of Rangers, a last-gasp spot-kick from Nedim Bajrami saw them escape defeat when they clashed heads in Dundee back in December. It won't be a stroll in the park for the Glasgow giants, and it remains to be seen whether McInnes replicates last season's tactical mastery while in charge of Hearts.
The Light Blues have replaced Jack Butland with Ivor Pandur, as the former Hull City goalkeeper has been roped in as the new 'number 1'. Veteran Liam Kelly would continue as the understudy to the Croatian following his contract renewal earlier this summer.

James Tavernier's departure has left a massive void down the right-hand side. Ross McCrorie has returned to his boyhood club, but the gaffer should rely on Dujon Sterling, who has impressed as a fullback in their pre-season outings. Ben Godfrey, snapped up on a season-long loan from Atalanta, is expected to feature alongside Emmanuel Fernandez in the heart of the backline. Tuur Rommens has been a revelation since his January arrival, and his presence on the left would offer a perfect balance between defence and attack.

Sky Sports Deutschland claim that Juventus have agreed a €33m plus €7m add-ons deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Kerim Alajbegovic, who had been linked with Chelsea, Milan, Roma and Atalanta.
The remarkable report was announced this afternoon by reporter Patrick Berger, then Fabrizio Romano also confirmed there were advanced negotiations.

It is quite the twist in the transfer tale for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who had spent most of the summer attracting attention from clubs, but none who were prepared to meet the €35m plus bonus asking price.

Paris Saint-Germain are not expected to attempt to sign AFC Bournemouth's Éli Junior Kroupi (20) this summer, according to reports from RMC Sport.
Whilst seeking an attacking reinforcement to compensate for the departures of Gonçalo Ramos (24), Lee Kang-in (25) and Randal Kolo Muani (27), the Rouge et Bleu management have not, for the time being, opened the door to the young striker's arrival in the capital, although he is reportedly interested in the project and has supporters within the club.
However, given the Cherries' determination to keep him and the potential cost of prising him away, the Kroupi deal is not currently a priority. A sum in excess of €100m is said to be the minimum required for any club wishing to secure his services.
Meanwhile, Barcelona's Ferran Torres (26) and Atalanta's Charles de Ketelaere (25) – whose names have already been linked with the two-time European champions – are on Paris's shortlist. So too is a third player, whose identity has not yet been revealed.

Chelsea has been busy this summer. The Stamford Bridge club has broken its transfer record to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa with Marco Palestra also joining from Atalanta and Geovany Quenda coming in from Sporting CP. Chelsea has clearly altered its strategy ahead of the 2026/27 season.
This is reflected by the Blues' interest in Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck, both of whom are reportedly close to joining the Stamford Bridge outfit. Henderson is 36 while Welbeck is 35. That Chelsea is even interested in such experienced players says a lot about how the strategy has changed over the summer.

Xabi Alonso is remodelling the Chelsea team in his own image. The Spaniard is expected to recycle the approach and tactical set-up that worked so well for him as Bayer Leverkusen manager, hence the addition of a second number 10 in Rogers and a right wing back in Palestra. There is a plan in place.

Newcastle United have been linked with plenty of centre-backs over the past few windows, but Giorgio Scalvini feels like one of the more coherent names on the list. According to Tutto Atalanta, Atalanta are now prepared to listen if a club comes forward with €45 million for the Italy international.
That matters, because for a long time the message from Bergamo was simple, Scalvini was not going anywhere. Now there is movement. Clubs do not shift their position for the fun of it. They do it when they need flexibility, and Atalanta appear ready to create room for a squad refresh after other plans failed to materialise.
Photo IMAGO
From Newcastle's perspective, the appeal is obvious. Scalvini is 22, has already played more than 100 senior games, and has international experience with Italy. That is a serious body of work for a defender of his age. He is not a raw project and he is not being signed purely on upside. He already looks like a player built for a high-level team.
He also fits the practical brief. Eddie Howe needs another central defender, particularly one capable of complementing Sven Botman over the long term. Scalvini's ability on the ball, his comfort stepping into midfield, and his aerial strength all line up with what Newcastle need. This is not about buying a name, it is about buying function.

Atalanta have missed their shot for Karim Alajbegovic, and more teams have joined the race, including Juventus, which are also defying Fenerbahce for Brazilian talent André, La Stampa reports.
Corinthians requested €17/18M plus €4M add-ons for 70 percent of the player’s card. The rest belong directly to him and his entourage, who are itching to move to Europe. He was close to Milan in January, but the transfer collapsed late. He notched 7 goals in 41 appearances last season.
The Bianconeri need to be decisive, though, as the competition from Turkey is strong. Instead, they have barely added anybody yet to focus on the exits. In the same role, they made a competitive offer for Frank Kessié, but they didn’t match his request and asked him to wait.
André isn’t the only youngster being chased by Juventus, as they are going after Alajbegovic as well. Atalanta were briefly in the lead, but Bayer Leverkusen raised their request after more sides are seriously eyeing him.
Fiorentina, Milan, and Napoli have also shown interest in the Bosnian starlet, La ***** one reports. However, the biggest threat comes from England. Chelsea have muscled their way into the fray and are currently the favorites, The Telegraph reports.

Hull City tried their luck. It failed. Nicolas Raskin has flatly turned down an approach from the newly-promoted Premier League outfit, despite the Yorkshire side putting a hefty sum on the table. According to reports from the Daily Record, Hull were ready to meet Rangers' valuation in principle, but the player's camp slammed the brakes on the whole thing. He simply has no interest in moving to the MKM Stadium.
It leaves the Tigers stranded. TEAMtalk and the Yorkshire Post suggest Hull put forward somewhere between £12m and £14m. Rangers, however, are clinging to a valuation north of £20m. That is a massive gap in Scottish football terms. Hull might have the cash from their promotion, but they face a steep mountain if they think a second attempt will change Raskin's mind. Money is only half the battle here. The player wants elite European football, and his representatives are working overtime to land a move to a far bigger stage.
To understand the Belgian's ambition, you only have to look at his last 12 months. It was a standout year. Across 33 Scottish Premiership outings during the 2025/26 campaign, he notched six goals and seven ***** ists. He clocked nearly 2,800 minutes in domestic action, finishing as the top-rated player in the entire Rangers squad with an average rating of 7.54. Throw in eight appearances in the Europa League, and it becomes clear why he was the engine driving Ibrox.
Then came the World Cup. Raskin took that domestic form straight to North America, starting every group match for Belgium. His display in the 4-1 thrashing of the USA on 4 July turned plenty of heads across the continent. Now, the suitors are lining up. Real Betis, Atalanta, Bologna, and Tottenham Hotspur are all monitoring the situation. Teams across La Liga and Serie A have sniffed around, along with several established Premier League sides.

Chelsea have emerged as firm favourites to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s teenage sensation Kerim Alajbegovic. Xabi Alonso is at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are in pole position to land the 18-year-old winger following his breakout performances for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Alajbegovic’s stock soared during the tournament after he scored a spectacular long-range goal in Bosnia’s 3–1 group-stage win over Qatar. At 18 years and 276 days, he became the youngest player to score from outside the penalty area at a World Cup since Kylian Mbappe in 2018. That historic strike earned him Man of the Match honours and put Europe’s top clubs on high alert.
Chelsea have identified Alajbegovic as a prime target who fits their long-term strategy of acquiring elite, high-potential domestic and international talent. While Serie A side Atalanta initially led the race ahead of Leeds United, Chelsea’s financial strength and readiness to meet Leverkusen’s asking price have shifted momentum decisively towards Stamford Bridge.
Bayer Leverkusen are open to selling the teenage attacker after recalling him from a stellar spell at Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored 13 goals and provided four ******* ists in a prolific 2025/26 campaign. Die Werkself are holding out for a fee of around £30 million.
With personal terms unlikely to be an obstacle, Chelsea are pushing to wrap up negotiations behind the scenes. Should a deal be completed, Alajbegovic would become the latest high-profile young international to join Chelsea’s ambitious project.

Al-Ahli's interest in Manu Kone has been confirmed, but the Saudi club face significant hurdles before any move for the Roma midfielder can take shape.
According to Gianluigi Longari, as relayed by AlfredoPedullà.com, Al-Ahli have Kone on their list alongside Idrissa Gueye, but they must first offload Enzo Millot before adding to their midfield. That outgoing is described as a non-negotiable precondition for any incoming business.

Even with that resolved, two further steps would remain. A negotiation with Roma would have to begin from scratch, and Kone himself would need to open the door to a switch to Saudi Arabia, no small consideration for a France international who has been the subject of Premier League interest this summer.
Manchester United emerged as suitors earlier in the window, turning to the Frenchman after their agreed deal for Atalanta's Ederson collapsed, with Roma reportedly open to a sale at around €50 million as they look to balance the books under UEFA scrutiny.

Lazio have registered their interest in AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah, who reportedly has suitors in the Premier League as well.
The 23-year-old is an ****** nal youth product who found success at Valencia, but struggled for playing time and consistency following his move to Milan in 2023. The American spent the previous campaign on loan at Atalanta, where he was deployed in various positions, but had limited chances to prove his worth.
Musah returned to Milanello this summer, but the Rossoneri are willing to entertain offers, especially with his contract expiring in 2028.
In recent days, Lazio emerged as one of the player's suitors, reportedly offering to take him on loan for €2 million with an option to buy for €18 million, which would turn into an obligation if they qualify for Europe. Although Gennaro Gattuso prefers to sign a natural attacking midfielder for his 4-2-3-1 formation, Il Messaggero believes he is an admirer of the versatile New York native.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile are also facing stiff competition from the Premier League, as Leeds United and Ipswich Town are both keeping tabs on the situation. This would be a return to England for Musah, who spent his formative years at ****** nal.

The 32-year-old German left-back is set to join the Royal Blues on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the purchase clause is worth €2.5 million, plus additional performance-related bonuses.

The experienced defender has previously played for a number of different clubs, including Atalanta, Inter Milan and 1. FC Union Berlin.
Last season, Gosens made 36 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three ***** ists.

Everton have stepped up their pursuit of Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy. Representatives and intermediaries connected to the Italian side are already locked in fresh talks. Genoa look ready to sell the 22-year-old this summer if someone meets their valuation. They want around €20 million, which pans out at roughly £17 million.
It is a price tag that sits comfortably within the current budget at Goodison Park, and club chiefs view it as a highly realistic target. The player is keen too. A return to the Premier League holds massive appeal, especially with the guarantee of regular top-flight minutes on the table. Settling into the dressing room should be a breeze. He already knows several faces in David Moyes’s squad, having shared pitches with Tyrique George, Tyler Dibling, and Hayden Hackney during his time with the England Under-21s.
Born in Pimlico and polished in the ***** nal academy system, Norton-Cuffy built his reputation the hard way. He ground out dirty minutes in the Championship during loan spells at Lincoln, Rotherham, Coventry, and Millwall. Then Genoa called. Moving to Serie A is usually a daunting leap for a young British defender. He handled it. Last season, Brooke Norton-Cuffy racked up 2,216 minutes across 27 appearances, starting 25 times after making a debut against Atalanta. Two goals and an ***** ist across the campaign showed his attacking intent, even if a couple of red cards and discipline issues showed he still has a bit of rawness.

That brings us to the real question. Does Moyes actually need him? The right-back spot is already looking incredibly crowded, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is still the primary target for that role. Rico Lewis and Djed Spence are hovering on the radar, too. Bringing Norton-Cuffy into that mix feels less like strategic squad building and more like a club struggling to make a definitive choice.

As Ederson continues to reel from his failed transfer to Manchester United, AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly prepared to offer him an escape.
United had agreed the structure of a £38m deal with Atalanta for Ederson, including shaking hands with the player’s camp over personal terms.
The intention was for Ederson to have his medical in June, but these plans were shelved after he received a shock late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad. A part of the medical was held in the United States, raising concerns that there was a potential issue.
Rumours of a potential hitch in the transfer gathered pace last week, and Ederson found himself under closer scrutiny straight after Brazil’s elimination at the hands of Norway.
Then last Friday, Fabrizio Romano broke the news that the deal was off, with United opting against officially getting it over the line. Romano later reported that Ederson left the UK and was disappointed about how events panned out.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus are interested in USMNT striker Folarin Balogun and are preparing the first offer to sign Franck Kessié as a free agent.
Juventus have made just one summer signing so far, welcoming Italian winger Jeff Ekhator from Genoa, but new directors Giovanni Carnevali and Frederic Massara are working to give coach Luciano Spalletti more reinforcements.
According to Gazzetta, the Serie A giants are ready to send an offer to sign ex-Milan and Atalanta star Franck Kessié as a free agent.
The 29-year-old refused to sign a contract extension with Al-Ahli and is open to returning to Serie A, but his agent has demanded over €5m in signing bonus, Gazzetta claims.

Manchester United "have other areas to strengthen" this transfer window as they continue their pursuit of midfield recruits, says The Devils' Advocate podcast co-host Gaz Drinkwater.
Manchester City secured United's top target Elliot Anderson at the start of the window, they were unwilling to match Tottenham's bid for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and, most recently, their move for Atalanta's Ederson collapsed after his medical despite agreeing a deal for the Brazilian at the beginning of June.
Now the club have signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are closing in on a deal for Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans, but Drinkwater believes United need to be putting their focus elsewhere.
"Left-back is a big one. Luke Shaw did very well last season and if he has the same season again then we don't need a left-back - but he's not going to, is he? And I'm not sure about his back-up," he said on the latest episode of the BBC Radio Manchester podcast.
"We don't actually have a left-winger unless Marcus Rashford is staying so maybe we keep Rashford, even though he's on a lot of money.

Marco Palestra's agent hit back angrily at Inter President Beppe Marotta and reveals when Chelsea got involved. 'Over 45 days, Inter never reached an agreement with Atalanta.'
The Italy international had been on the verge of joining Inter last month in a deal believed to be worth €40m plus €5m add-ons.
However, before they could shake hands, Chelsea dived in with a proposal worth a good €10m more to Atalanta, and with double the salary on offer at San Siro.

Manchester United have completed the £48m signing of Brazil international Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans as they try to revamp their midfield.
It has also been confirmed United's plan to sign Ederson from Atalanta for £35m has been scrapped for now after a medical highlighted an injury-related issue.
United agreed a fee with Chelsea for Santos last week, and the 22-year-old has now completed his medical and signed a deal to June 2031, with the option to extend for a further year.
"Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch," said director of football Jason Wilcox.
"He was a key target for us in an important position.

Gian Piero Gasperini says that Manu Kone is ‘having a great World Cup’, and though he is aware of the fact that Roma still need to balance their budgets, he insists that there will be ‘more clarity’ surrounding the Manchester United target in the coming weeks.
Kone is enjoying a starring role with the France national team, who are among the favourites to go the distance at the 2026 World Cup.
As a result of his strong 2025-26 performances and his impressive audition on the world stage, the Giallorossi midfielder is beginning to attract interest from high-profile clubs across Europe, most recently Manchester United.
United have dropped a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, have arranged a deal for Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are in talks to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, but there is every chance that Michael Carrick looks to add a third option to a midfield department that is lacking in numbers at Old Trafford.
When asked about Kone’s status in an interview with Radio Rai 1, Gasperini said: “Kone had a great first half of the season, and then was out of action due to injury for a bit during the second half.

Youri Tielemans was only interested in joining Manchester United this summer, as being a Red Devil has been a childhood dream for the Aston Villa midfielder – a fact proven by the big-money moves he turned down elsewhere.
In the increasingly transparent transfer market, there are few deals that catch fans and reporters alike by surprise – but the £35 million capture of Tielemans is certainly one.
Having agreed to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50 million last week, after a similar £39 million arrangement was struck with Atalanta for Ederson, Manchester United were expected to be welcoming two new Brazilians to Old Trafford.
But in an explosive twist, INEOS pulled the plug on their pursuit of Ederson after a failed medical, while quickly pivoting towards Tielemans after it emerged the Belgium international had a £35 million release clause in his contract at Villa Park.
The Villans did not want to lose their 29-year-old maestro, even going as far as to offer the Europa League winner improved terms in the hope of fending off his suitors by removing the clause. But Unai Emery’s side were powerless to stop United striking a deal after they received the green light from the player, who is understood to be excited to play under Michael Carrick.

Manchester United have completed their £48m purchase of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are closing in on the surprise signing of Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans after a move for Ederson was put on hold.
United are set to activate a release clause and to get the Belgium captain for around £35m, in a blow to Unai Emery.
Tielemans will become the second addition in Michael Carrick’s summer midfield overhaul, with Santos’ arrival formalised and the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
United had been set to sign Brazil international Ederson from Atalanta for £35m, agreeing a fee with the Serie A club and with the intention of conducting a medical and completing the transfer in July.
Ederson was then a late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad and a medical was arranged in the United States which indicated an issue.
