Thunderstorms in the area caused a nearly two-and-a-half hour delay Wednesday evening, and the bracket won't be complete until Thursday morning, when stroke play concludes and a likely playoff to cut to 64 players.
When that's complete, it's time for match play.

A 24-year-old Thai footballer died and at least nine other individuals, including a Malaysian national, suffered injuries after being struck by lightning in the middle of the pitch during a regional cup match in southern Thailand, the police stated.
Sofwan Awae, a winger who recently signed up with the third-tier Yala FC, was in a critical condition upon the arrival of the officers at Santiphap Stadium in Sungai Golok on Tuesday evening, according to the Sungai Golok police chief Col. Thun Sirikhunt.
"Although the emergency medical team made every effort to save him, the victim succumbed to severe injuries sustained in the incident," Thun told Bernama, the Malaysian state news agency.
The lightning strike occurred during the semi-final match of the Golok FA Cup, an amateur competition with teams from both sides of the Thailand-Malaysia border. Awae played for the mixed Thai-Malaysian team SAMCOLTS against Abu x Nong Sirin when the rain poured heavily over the pitch around 5 p.m. local time, Thun said. The police received the emergency phone call about half an hour later.
The amateur video footage uploaded on the Internet captures the players moving in the rain before the lightning strikes the middle of the pitch with a loud explosion that sends several players to the ground. The teammates help Awae, who is lying face down on the ground, into a supine position and try to revive him while spectators move onto the pitch.

T he death of young Filipino basketball player Rene Baterbonia at a training camp in June captivated social media users in the Philippines, including a TikTok post falsely claiming that an NBA coach had planned to recruit the 18-year-old for the 2026-27 season. AFP found that the clip had been digitally altered, while the original video was published before Baterbonia's death.

That was already a lot of institutional money betting that betting on the future is itself a good bet.

The Phoenix Suns are locking Dillon Brooks down.
Brooks, fresh off a career campaign with the franchise, agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Brooks had signed a four-year, $86 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. He was set to enter the final year of that contract this fall, and would have hit free agency next summer. Now, though, he'll be a key piece for the Suns for years to come.
Brooks, who was dealt to the Suns as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets last summer, averaged a career-high 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in Phoenix. He shot better than 43% from the field, too, which is better than all but his rookie campaign. Brooks missed a good chunk of the season after fracturing his left hand in February, however, and only appeared in 56 games.
The Suns went 45-37 last season and reached the playoffs, but ended up getting swept in the opening round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have developed their team over the decades via the usual ways most teams in the NBA have, finding special success through the NBA draft since their founding as the Seattle SuperSonics. Many of the franchise's top players have joined the team either through direct selections in the annual draft or via trades executed on that day.
On top of this, the Thunder have selected not only several star players through the draft but also a number of notable alumni each offseason. A few colleges have been more prominently represented than others in sourcing those prospects, though OKC has always cast a wide net as well. Energy and enthusiasm were the order of the day at Fred G. Hughes Stadium Wednesday as the Missouri Southern State University football team gathered for its first official practice of the 2026 season.
"The first of anything is exciting," head coach Atiba Bradley said. "Every season has its own baby — its own challenge, its own entity, so I'm excited about opening it up. I'm excited to get it started. I didn't get into coaching to sit behind a desk from 9 to 5. Being able to come out on the field and be in my element — this is what gets us going, and this is why we work so hard."
Southern defensive back Peyton McKee talked about his emotions heading into the first day of practice.
"It's just a nostalgic feeling of being around football again," McKee said. "I just love to play the game, love to be around my brothers and I'm just excited to get the season going."
Wide receiver David Bethune also shared his thoughts about the first day of practice.

When Matt Barr was drafted by the Minnesota Twins on June 14, 2025, he had 10 days off before signing.
He spent that time working out at SUNY Niagara throwing to his best friend and former Thunderwolves teammate Dalton Harper and with coach Matt Clingersmith before heading to Minnesota's rookie level team in Fort Myers, Florida.
Once he was signed, it took a while for him to play in his first professional game thanks to the Florida Complex League season ending shortly after the draft and then a stress fracture in his right arm suffered during spring training, delaying his debut until May 25.
It was a one inning performance where he gave up one run against the FCL Pirates. Since then he has worked hard to pitch well and now has been called up to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, the Twins low-A level team.
Through two starts with the Mighty Mussels, Barr has a 6.75 ERA with seven strikeouts and three walks. After a shaky first start at the A-level in which he gave up five runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, Barr responded by going four innings of shutout baseball while giving up three hits and striking out five hitters Friday.

Friday night felt like the start of something.
A point against Rangers might not sound spectacular on paper, but anyone inside Tannadice knows United deserved to come away with plenty of credit. There was intensity, energy and - most importantly - an identity.
Five league debutants and a new-look side meant plenty of question marks before kick-off. Yet as the game settled, United grew into it.
The opening goal was superb. Josh Rawlins, Jesse Randall, Zac Sapsford and Lachlan Rose, the Thunder from Down Under combination, carving Rangers open with a move that deserved to be finished and thankfully was. Not a 30-yard screamer but they all count.
Rangers responded after the break as you would expect from a side chasing the ****** le and Jack Walton showed exactly why Jim Goodwin was so keen to bring him back.

Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian, Motherwell and Rangers now have a clearer idea of who they might face in Europa League and Conference League qualifying after Uefa confirmed the groupings for Monday's draws.
Celtic already knew their potential opponents in their Champions League play-off, with their draw at 11:00 BST and the Europa League draw an hour later, followed by the Conference League at 13:00.
Now Rangers know that, if they defeat Polish side Jagiellonia Białystok in the third round of Europa League qualifying, they will face either Lillestrom of Norway, the winners of the tie between Northern Irish champions Larne and Iberia 1999 of Georgia, or the losers of two Champions League qualifiers - between Levski Sofia (Bulgaria) and Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan) or Mjallby (Sweden) and Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia).

It is hard to place a value on Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) because it is a money-losing start-up. But the stock has fallen more than 60% from its 2025 highs and is now trading at about the same level as in 2021, shortly after coming public via a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). Archer Aviation has come a long way since then, so you could easily argue the stock is cheap. But should you buy it?
The big story with Archer Aviation is its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. It already has a model, called Midnight, that it is testing. And it just introduced a variation on Midnight, called Thunder, that is intended for military and industrial use. The hope is that eVTOLs will revolutionize the aerospace industry.

These are real-world scenarios where Archer's eVTOL aircraft would be hugely valuable. If you can envision a world where Midnight and Thunder aircraft are zipping through the air, it might be cheap enough for you to buy.
There are some problems to consider before you buy that will likely keep all but the most aggressive growth investors on the sidelines. For starters, the company is losing money and will likely continue to do so for a while longer. That's because it is still working on getting its eVTOL approved for commercial use. And even though Thunder won't require the same regulatory approvals, it isn't ready for prime time just yet, either. After the company's eVTOL aircraft are approved, it will still have to spend significant sums to ramp up production.

WASHINGTON — After nearly nine hours of intermittent heavy rain, thunder and lightning Sunday, the DC Open postponed its women's and men's finals until Monday.
Rain delayed the start of the women's final between the No. 1 seed American Jessica Pegula and rising star Alex Eala of the Philippines by three hours Sunday. Pegula won the first set, 6-4, in smothering humidity and Eala led 2-1 in the second before the rain came again and the tournament suspended play just before 4 p.m.
Pegula and Eala will resume their match at noon Monday. The men's final between No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz of the United States and the young Spaniard Rafael Jodar will follow.
The tournament announced the postponements at 9:06 p.m. to a hearty few members of the crowd who were still hanging out on the grounds.
The prospect of a Monday final is slightly complicated for the DC Open, which, as a late-summer tournament held in the mid-Atlantic, deals with weather delays nearly every year. But summer storms rarely affect the final in Washington, and extending the tournament by a day puts players in a slight time crunch as the next event on most players' calendars — the National Bank Open, which hosts its men's event in Montreal this year and women's event in Toronto — already started Sunday.

Getting underneath the dreadful second apron, the Thunder had to make three cost-cutting moves. Out go Dort, Joe and Wiggins. In come seven future second-round picks. Three of OKC's best recent developmental stories head out East. Dort and Wiggins went to the Atlanta Hawks and Joe to the Detroit Pistons.

Nadiem Amiri has now ended speculation surrounding his future by confirming that he will remain with Mainz 05 for the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign. After months of withholding support and weeks of back and forth with lawmakers, the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference on Friday publicly backed a bipartisan Senate bill designed to stabilize college athlete compensation and provide antitrust protections to the NCAA and its most powerful conferences.
The final major sticking point for the conferences with the Protect College Sports Act was language in a provision regarding name, image and likeness deals athletes can strike with companies that work directly with schools. The conferences wanted more well-defined restrictions on deals between athletes and so-called ***** ociated entities to cut off the workarounds some schools have been using to blow past the current annual revenue-sharing limit of $20.5 million they can direct to athletes.
With the Big Ten and SEC now on board, the bill has a chance of getting to the Senate floor next week for a vote. Still, there is no guarantee Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) will be able to squeeze it in before Aug. 7, when the Senate breaks for a five-week recess.
The bill needs 60 votes to pass, and where that count stands in the Senate is unclear. Lawmakers are hoping for robust support that easily passes the threshold, believing that gives the bill a better chance of then passing a House vote in the fall. Reforming college sports has been a priority for President Donald Trump, and the White House has also pushed for Congress to act.
The bipartisan bill was introduced in May by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.). Jul. 30—The Big Sky Conference made official its additions of Southern Utah and Utah Tech this month, in time for the two universities' football programs to take part in the league's annual football kickoff weekend at Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights.
Coaches at both programs articulated the various benefits that the Thunderbirds and Trailblazers expect to reap, while coaches and officials from across the Big Sky described the move as a fortification of the league's status as the best in the FCS.
Having 13 teams isn't new to the Big Sky; it carried that many from 2012 to 2021, albeit not these same 13 teams. And Eastern Washington and Idaho are minimally impacted by the specific addition of Southern Utah and Utah Tech.
But by swelling to 13, the Big Sky has swallowed up every remaining scholarship FCS program within its geographic footprint, and the effect of that will ripple through its other, more tenured 11 programs.
"I thought it would be a great move for our entire athletic department, and it has been," Utah Tech head football coach Lance Anderson said. "... I just think this is a much better geographic fit for us."

Coaches at both programs articulated the various benefits that the Thunderbirds and Trailblazers expect to reap, while coaches and officials from across the Big Sky described the move as a fortification of the league's status as the best in the FCS.
Having 13 teams isn't new to the Big Sky; it carried that many from 2012 to 2021, albeit not these same 13 teams. And Eastern Washington and Idaho are minimally impacted by the specific addition of Southern Utah and Utah Tech.
But by swelling to 13, the Big Sky has swallowed up every remaining scholarship FCS program within its geographic footprint, and the effect of that will ripple through its other, more tenured 11 programs.
"I thought it would be a great move for our entire athletic department, and it has been," Utah Tech head football coach Lance Anderson said. "... I just think this is a much better geographic fit for us."

As the calendar is about to flip to August, we're amid the brutal part of the NBA's year-round schedule. August and September are when teams across the league go into vacation mode. Most of the offseason homework is done. We're just waiting around for the 2026-27 season to start.
Because of how jam-packed the NBA's regular-season marathon is, these next couple of months are when players develop the most. Not needing to play a game or travel every other day, the mundaneness of summer vacation gives guys ample chances to get real developmental reps.
You're seeing that right now with the Oklahoma City Thunder. They finished five wins shy of their back-to-back ambitions. But there's no reason to harshly judge how their playoff exit came about. After going through some complementary roster changes, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams must return to being All-NBA teammates.
The first step towards that? Syncing up in the offseason. Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams have spent time together this summer. Various social media posts have revealed so. They're collabing with the two-time MVP's longtime trainer Nem Ilic. They took to Instagram to recently reveal that.
Cool to see Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams be on the same page. For Gilgeous-Alexander, it's about remaining one of the NBA's best players. The 28-year-old has had two straight MVP seasons and four straight 30-plus point campaigns. He must roll along with that type of production if OKC wants a chance to bring home another Larry O'Brien trophy.

Wednesday was the initial practice in Dallas Cowboys' training camp, and it didn't long for one of the team's offseason storylines to take center stage. There has been talk about running back Jaydon Blue having a much better second season than he did as a rookie, and that came to fruition early in practice.
After fellow second-year RB Phil Mafah was stripped of the football by Rashan Gary, Blue took over in the backfield on the next play, and showed off his game-breaking speed. The 45-yard touchdown run is the type of explosive play the Cowboys are hoping for with Blue this season.
The Cowboys offense boasts two elite weapons at wide receiver and a strong lead back with Javonte Williams, but they were lacking a home-run threat last season. Blue can be the lightning to Williams' thunder and his big play to kickoff training camp is exactly what the offense hopes to elicit from his touches.
If Blue is ready to take the second-year jump, the Cowboys' offense might be even better than they were in 2025. The only other player with Blue's type of speed is KaVontae Turpin, but the young RB out of Texas can be more of a reliable dynamic offensive weapon.
It didn't take long for Blue to get off to an electric start, which could be bad news for the defenses around the league.
