MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Josko Gvardiol has signed a new five-year contract at Manchester City until 2031.
The Croatia defender joined City in 2023 and had two years remaining on his deal at the Etihad Stadium.
"As soon as I knew City wanted to renew my contract, I felt straight away it was what I wanted," Gvardiol said. "It's the best club in the world to be at.
"The players we have here are amazing. This is a world-class squad that is young and full of potential. I truly believe we will have a lot of success in the coming years."
The 24-year-old Gvardiol joined City from Leipzig for 90 million euros ($99.2 million), ranking him among the most expensive defenders in soccer history. He has won five major trophies including the Premier League ****** le and FA Cup during his time at the club.

South Korea international Kang-In Lee has joined Atletico Madrid from European champions Paris Saint-Germain, the Spanish club announced Saturday.

Real Madrid have sent in an official offer to RB Leipzig to sign highly-rated winger, Yan Diomande, on Friday night, according to widespread reports in Europe.
A very busy Friday that saw Rodri's news break out earlier during the day, Mario Cortegana and David Ornstein of The Athletic were among the first ones to report on an offer for the winger. Soon after, Fabrizio Romano, Arancha Rodriguez and others also started reporting on the news.
According to Romano, the offer sent in by Real Madrid was of 90 million euros + 10 million euros in add-ons, which was rejected by Leipzig.
Diomande, a winger who prefers to play on the right, is a good option to provide balance to the team's left-heavy attack, but it remains to be seen whether the club is able to actually bring him in.
Paris Saint-Germain are still in the race to sign Diomande, but everything now depends on the next potential offer from Real Madrid.

July 21 (Reuters) - A nonprofit that licenses the University of Tennessee's intellectual property has sued artificial-intelligence ‌giant Anthropic in Delaware federal court for allegedly ‌infringing its patents related to neural networks.
The University of Tennessee Research Foundation's complaint, filed on Monday and made public on Tuesday, said that Anthropic's AI systems violate its patents on machine-learning technology inspired by neuroscience.
The lawsuit is thought to be the first ‌patent infringement case ⁠against Anthropic. A California federal judge on Monday approved the company's landmark $1.5 billion settlement of ⁠a class action copyright lawsuit brought by a group of authors over its use of their work to train AI.
"Anthropic's cavalier approach to others' intellectual property rights in the development of ‌its products extends beyond the use of copyrighted material," the foundation said in its complaint.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Former England forward Mason Greenwood signed for Fenerbahce to join his third club in three years since being banished from the Manchester United team.
Fenerbahce said in a statement late Tuesday it will pay Marseille 39 million euros ($44.5 million) and gave the 24-year-old Greenwood a four-year contract.
"It was a no-brainer when they (were) interested in me," said Greenwood, who had been pursued by Atletico Madrid, in a video message posted by his new club. "It's the biggest club in Turkey and I can't wait to get started."
Fenerbahce has not won the Turkish league since 2014, while fierce city rival Galatasaray has captured seven ****** les in that time including the last four.

Reports further indicate that Roma are now in talks to reach a deal with Club Brugge, asking 25 million euros. That price is seemingly a bargain for a 21-year-old striker who seems poised to breakout in a major way. Perhaps Tresoldi won’t continue his development but his performance last season was almost enough to earn a callup from Julian Nagelsmann for this summer’s World Cup.

That is, follow up a European championship with a World Cup victory. First, however, it must get past France in the 2026 World Cup semifinals on Tuesday, July 14.

Despite all the shocks and surprises and drama of this World Cup, the four semifinalists are just about the four favorites that were always expected to get there.
That's not to say that they had gotten there without their fair share of drama; certainly in Argentina's case. The defending champions have produced some of the most entertaining games of the knockout rounds, and while last night's semifinal against Switzerland didn't exactly reach the heady heights of the Cape Verde or Egypt matches in terms of pure cinema, it still featured one of the best goals scored at this World Cup in Julián Alvarez's winner in extra-time.
Credit to Switzerland for managing to hold Argentina to just one goal during the 90 minutes; things might have ended differently for them had Breel Embolo not collected one of the silliest red cards of the tournament with a most egregious dive in the second half that was rightfully awarded a second yellow after VAR review. Down to ten, the Swiss managed to hold out to extra-time, but could not get to the penalties.
Enzo Fernández lasted the 90 but was taken off for extra-time. Valentín Barco continues to not feature.
Argentina will take on England in the second semifinal on Wednesday after the Three Lions outlasted an absolutely shattered Norway (and Erling Haaland) in the Miami heat and humidity. Norway took the lead on a did-he-mean-it strike from Andreas Schjelderup but Jude Bellingham dragged them back into it on the stroke of half-time (possibly ****** isted by bit of camera rigging in the sky: the Cable of God?).

Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers for Alejandro Garnacho only a year after signing him from Manchester United, with Sky Sports reporting that the club would prefer a permanent sale this summer. The winger arrived for £40m last year, yet the latest position suggests Stamford Bridge is already moving towards a decisive outcome.
The asking price has been set at 50m euros (£42.6m), a figure that would allow Chelsea to make a modest profit if a buyer meets their terms. As reported by Sky Sports, there is interest from clubs in Europe, the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, while Chelsea are working alongside the player and his representatives to find a solution.
Garnacho, now 22, wants regular first-team football and that is not guaranteed in west London. That point feels central to the situation. He has not yet returned to pre-season training because his future is expected to be resolved in the next fortnight, a clear indication that all parties are trying to move quickly.

The full-back has been playing in midfield and has been among the goals as Spain have booked their place in the final of the Under-19s Euros against Germany.
Espart has been asked about his position switch and if Hansi Flick should be trying him in midfield next season for Barcelona.
"Hansi will decide what needs to be done. Right now, the important thing is Saturday. We've fought hard to be here, and I'm fully focused on the final," he told Marca.
"At Barça I was able to make my debut as a full-back, and here I play as a defensive midfielder, which is where I played until I was a youth player.
