Is the "Raw after SummerSlam" a thing? We all know WWE makes a big deal out of the first "Raw after 'Mania," usually setting up a few surprises to mark the occasion. For this year's post-SummerSlam show, they'd already promised at least one big return (quite literally). But wouldn't you know it, there wound up being a few other twists along the road as the show rolled through Des Moines, Iowa.
Here's what went down on this week's installment of pro-wrestling's longest-running show.
Tonight's show kicked off with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion making his way to the ring to bask in the glory of Sunday night's superb victory over Seth Rollins. Is it me or did Roman Reigns sound a little husky at first? (Which is perhaps unsurprising after that slobberknocker of a match from last night.)
Of course, the smart folks in Iowa knew the drill: when a victorious champion turns up to gloat, you just know he or she is going to get interrupted by his next challenger before long. But how many of them expected LA Knight to be the man to shoot his shot? Judging by the massive pop that accompanied the start of his theme music, not many.
"The Megastar" was also riding high on his successes from the weekend, having pinned Jey Uso to win the Babyfaces vs. Bloodline match. He worked his usual magic on the mic and even got a chuckle out of Reigns with his impression of The Shield's entrance music. The fact that Knight was wearing his trademark shades brought back instant memories of the last time these two collided, back at Crown Jewel in 2022.

The Washington Commanders went looking for nothing short of a franchise cornerstone in the 1st round of the 2026 NFL Draft — they may have found 1 in off-ball linebacker and No. 7 overall pick Sonny Styles.
Styles thrilled the Commanders and their fans in his 1st day of training camp with full pads — the 1st day of actual practice — and showed why he might be worth every penny and more of his 4-year, $37.7 million rookie contract.
"Absolute Unit," the Commanders wrote on their official X account on Monday.
Styles is already being paid more than the Commanders' 2 presumed starting inside linebackers before the draft in free-agent signee and 2-time Super Bowl champion Leo Chenal (2 years, $24 million) and NFL All-Pro Frankie Luvu (3 years, $31 million).
"I can honestly say, I think we drafted a future Hall of Famer," Commanders fan Janky Rondo wrote on his official X account.

Byron Scott believes James Harden prevented LeBron James from joining the Cavaliers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
James Harden is still a free agent, but everyone believes that he is headed back to the Cleveland Cavaliers on a long-term deal. They were much better when he joined the Cavs from the Los Angeles Clippers, and they reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018.
Of course, the Cavs got swept, but it was a step in the right direction. Some of the players and fans thought they could've gotten LeBron James for a third stint in free agency, but it did not work out, as he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Now that LeBron is with the 76ers, people are speculating about the reasons why he didn't join the other teams in the running to sign him. Cleveland was among them, which would have been a poetic ending to LeBron's career because he is an Ohio native, and he already had two stints in Cleveland with a championship in the second.
Since they have a talented roster with Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, the Cavaliers are always a team that can threaten anyone. They reached the Conference Finals, and they are on a positive trajectory despite the loss in the postseason.

Youth and health. The 2025 Sandia Matadors had too much of the former and not enough of the latter.
It was an often frustrating season under new coach Tylon Wilder. The Matadors, who had precious few players with concrete varsity experience, started 0-4 and never recovered, and an ******* ortment of injuries to some key personnel prevented Sandia from truly flourishing.
But Sandia firmly believes the puzzle pieces are arranged properly for them to become one of Class 6A's success stories this fall.
"I believe we can make it to the state championship and I feel like we can make it far in the playoffs," senior quarterback Jahleel Lewis said.
Sandia was among the nearly 125 football-playing schools in New Mexico that staged their first practices of the season on Monday.

The narrative on social media surrounding the Texas Rangers never matched what happened at the trade deadline. They made only one minor deal, trusting that the team can surge as is.
ARLINGTON — A good rule of thumb for life in general is not to believe everything cranked out on social media. That is especially so in the final two days before the annual MLB trade deadline and as things pertained this year to the Texas Rangers.
The deadline passed at 5 p.m. Monday with the Rangers staying largely dormant. Beginning on Sunday morning and continuing into Monday morning, though, the buzz was that the Rangers were going to be deadline sellers because of what happened over the weekend in Houston.
The sale was on, one national expert said. Another said the Rangers were open to moving all players on the team. It all turned out to be an echo chamber of bad information.
The only move the Rangers made Monday was an afternoon trade of infielder Josh Smith and minor-league pitcher Josh Stephan to the Blue Jays for left-hander Adam Macko. The lack of moves wasn't for a lack of effort, dreary-eyed club officials said.

The World Junior Summer Showcase took place at the end of July, a pivotal event that serves as a part of the process to select the roster for the IIHF World Junior Championship. In the event, almost ten connections to the MSU program skated and took part in the showcase in Windsor.
Following the conclusion of the event, Helena Hsieh, a regional scout for Elite Prospects, announced her standout performers of the showcase and a couple of Spartans made the list.
Incoming freshman Ethan Belchetz was one of those standouts, performing for team Canada. The Utah first round pick is slated for a big year with MSU.
Next, future Spartan Brooks Rogowski was another standout, this time for team USA. The Vancouver draft pick is expected to join MSU in 2027-28, but he is a candidate for the open slot left by Nikita Kelpov, being a late addition to the roster this year.

Aug. 3—The 2026 Northwest League second half is becoming the **** le no one wants to win. But currently, the Spokane Indians sit in the driver's seat.
Even though the Indians merely split with fourth-place Vancouver last week, and are 4-6 over their past 10 games, they return to Avista Stadium this week in first place with a 20-16 record.
The upcoming series against second-place Eugene could set the tone for the stretch run.
Next up: The Indians host a six-game set against the Emeralds (19-17).
The Emeralds were the first-half champs. They feature Deer Park native RHP Hunter Dryden and San Francisco Giants No. 3 prospect OF Jhonny Level. The 19-year-old is hitting .299 with 15 homers, 70 RBIs and 17 stolen bases this season.

PEORIA — The 2026 Discraft Ledgestone Open produced a first-time tour champion over the weekend in the pro division as more than 2,200 amateur and pro players powered through courses around the area.
Luke Taylor won his first Disc Golf Pro Tour event Sunday in a tight three-way finish on Eureka's temporary course.
"It's just about like how everyone sums up their first win," Taylor said in interviews after the tournament. "You don't really know what to think. I can't believe that last putt even went in. I felt like it had to. But I didn't know how it was going to go in or how it was going to play out.
"It was everything I could ask for in a final round. … It was pretty obvious for a while that my putting stroke was not there. I was crumbling from the pressure, some might say. I made a little adjustment to my stance the last six holes, and it made the difference.
"I just did the best I could, and it ended up going my way."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Derek Hill hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning and Bryce Harper added a two-run shot to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to their third straight win, 6-3 over the Washington Nationals on Monday night.
Hill's slam off reliever Tom Cosgrove (0-1) sent the crowd into a frenzy and provided the Phillies their second major spark of the day. Hill — who added a running, tumbling catch in right-center in the eighth — hit his ninth homer of the season hours after the Phillies swung a deal for three-time batting champion Luis Arraez from the San Francisco Giants.
Hill also bailed out fading veteran starter Aaron Nola, who has not won since May 26 and is coming off an 0-4 record with a 4.34 ERA in July.
Nola surrendered Abimelec Ortiz's first career home run in the first inning and Daylen Lile's 14th homer of the season in the second, a two-run shot that made it 3-0 Nationals.
Nola struck out six over six innings and actually lowered his ERA from 5.61 to 5.55 this season.

Wayne Newton Post 346 missed an Indiana American Legion Baseball State Tournament ******* le by the slimmest of margins last week, seemingly ending the Terre Haute team's stellar season.
Post 346 lost 1-0 to Valparaiso last Tuesday in the state championship game, allowing Valpo to advance into the next round at the Great Lakes Regional.
But last weekend, the Wisconsin state champion opted not to participate, the Terre Haute squad was offered an invitation to participate, and now the Post 346 team leaves Tuesday to compete in the eight-team field of the regional at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington. Play in the double-elimination tournament begins Wednesday and concludes Sunday.
Ironcially, Wayne Newton, with a sparkling 34-5 season record, drew Valparaiso for a opening-day matchup at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Fred Warner has been to two Super Bowls and two additional NFC Championship Games with the San Francisco 49ers, and he's walked away empty-handed every time. Now entering his ninth season under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the All-Pro linebacker says the group around him understands the opportunity in front of it isn't guaranteed to last.
"There's only so long that we're going to have these opportunities together as this group," Warner said on KNBR. "It's funny though, 'cause I feel like every year our sense of urgency is through the roof. Ever since I've been here, we've had the standard of winning a Super Bowl. It's always been Super Bowl or bust for us."
Since Shanahan took over in 2017, San Francisco lost two Super Bowls to the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFC ****** le in consecutive seasons in 2021 and 2022 to the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively. Warner has been part of that core the entire way, and the roster around him has only gotten older in the pursuit.
With Deebo Samuel's return this offseason, the 49ers are positioned to potentially start five non-quarterback skill players age 30 or older: Samuel, Mike Evans, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk. That group size and age has been matched by only a handful of teams in Super Bowl-era history, none of which found much postseason success doing it.
Warner said the volume of accolades this roster has compiled over the years — All-Pro nods, Pro Bowls, conference ****** le appearances — carries no weight once the season starts.

Better positioned to attack the market than any other club, the Dodgers were aggressive at this year's deadline. Contextualizing for the position they were in, what they set out to accomplish, and what it took to get there, it's inevitable to conclude it was a successful deadline for the reigning back-to-back champs, worthy of an A grade.
No matter what were to happen, the Dodgers would still come out of the deadline as the favorites to win the World Series. That being said, the addition of Tarik Skubal combined with more underwhelming moves from their top rivals justifies their current odds as +160 to complete the threepeat. Even though all three division leaders in the National League possess similar records, the Dodgers are still heavy favorites to secure the NL's number one seed, currently at -370.
As evident now as ever, one of the keys to the Dodgers' success is the ability to make measured decisions with both the short-term and long-term future in mind—a team unafraid to fully explore their vast resources without being inconsequential in their approach. Skubal's acquisition fulfilled plenty of expectations, but no one can accuse the Dodgers of being held hostage by the Tigers.
Even with the departure of Zyhir Hope as the headliner, the Dodgers retain a loaded pool of outfield prospects from which they can benefit for years to come. When it comes to River Ryan, his development needed a breakthrough only a guaranteed big league spot with no leash could provide, and that was more than the Dodgers could afford to give him right now.
It was the perfect storm not only for the Dodgers to acquire Skubal but also to do so with a reasonable package, if there is such a thing. For most teams competing at an absolute high level, the reward of two months-plus of Skubal wasn't worth the loss of such highly prized ***** ets as the ones the Dodgers gave up.

ARCHDALE — Jerome Davis remembers visiting the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame as a teenager, marveling at the photographs and memorabilia of his larger-than-life cowboy heroes.
Fast-forward a few decades, and now it's his photo — and his inspiring life story — that wannabe cowboys will be admiring.

"This is one of the highlights of my life," Davis said Monday. "I've had a lot of other achievements, ... but this one to me is a big deal. This is the one that, when I was a kid growing up wanting to be a cowboy, I dreamed of this happening one day. There's only so many that go to that level, and for them to consider me to be at that level, that's pretty awesome."
Tiffany Davis, Jerome's wife, accompanied him to the ceremony at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His mother, Pam Simmons, also attended.
