Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Padres fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
San Diego Padres fans came into Spring Training knowing the pitching rotation was going to be without the services of Yu Darvish due to offseason surgery. There were questions about Randy Vasquez and his ability to perform consistently on the major league level, but the combination of Michael King and Nick Pivetta along with the return of Joe Musgrove was a promising top of the rotation.
Fast forward to this point in the season and not only have the Padres been without Darvish, but they have also not seen Pivetta due to injury, Musgrove has yet to even step on the mound in the regular season and Vasquez, who started hot, has looked like the Vasquez of a year ago with short outings, hard hit ****** and questionable command. San Diego general manager and president of baseball operations A.J. Preller tried to address the pitching depth issues, known and anticipated, while working with a restricted budget, but only Walker Buehler has performed well on a consistent basis. German Marquez made his way to the injured list but was not overly impressive before his IL stint and Matt Waldron never really threatened to take and hold a spot in the rotation.
Griffin Canning was signed in the offseason but was coming back from an Achilles injury. He performed well for the New York Mets a season ago before his injury and the hope was, he would return to form as a member of the San Diego rotation. That has not been the case. Canning has appeared in 10 games, has started eight and holds a 1-5 record with a 7.38 ERA. He has allowed 45 hits with 26 walks and eight home runs. Canning lasted just 0.2 innings against the Atlanta Braves after allowing four runs. Padres manager Craig Stammen has elected to use an opener the last two times out for Canning and the first rendition was successful with Canning throwing four-plus innings and allowing one run to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Lucas Giolito was signed after Spring Training and was expected to be a much-needed boost to the rotation. He has not been anything close to what was expected. His velocity is down, which makes his devastating changeup less effective and his command has been poor throughout his seven appearances with San Diego. Giolito currently holds a 2-3 record and a 5.16 ERA. He has allowed 33 hits and 23 walks with one home run allowed and has now landed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation.

The Milwaukee Bucks were able to land a third player in the 2026 NBA Draft when they effectively bought the No. 60 pick, the last of the draft, in a three-team trade that included Washington and Orlando.
For the Bucks to get the last pick, which they used to select Malique Lewis, the organization sent cash to Orlando.
The Bucks once again tapped into their recent pipeline to Australia to find Lewis, who played for the South East Melbourne Phoenix of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). The Bucks picked guard AJ Johnson in 2024 after he played in the NBL.
The 6-foot, 8-inch Lewis shot 38.7% from behind the 3-point line last season, a drastic improvement from his 29.4% from the year before. Lewis averaged 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for South East Melbourne.
ESPN draft ******* yst Fran Fraschilla said on the broadcast said Lewis is a "three-and-D" guy, referencing his ability to shoot the 3-pointer and defend.

As the new general manager of the Chicago Bulls, Bryson Graham overhauls a roster with plenty of shortcomings, Memphis native Kam Jones finds himself in the mix and is headed to Bulls.
On the second day of the 2026 NBA Draft, the Bulls traded for Jones along with a pick swap and cash from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for the No. 38 overall selection, guard Braden Smith of Purdue.
Jones grew up in Memphis and was a star for Evangelical Christian School. He later played for AAU powerhouse Team Thad.
Jones, 24, was drafted in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft. He had an up-and-down rookie season with the Pacers and averaged 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds through 37 games.
Jones missed the start of the 2025-26 season with a stress reaction in his lower back that happened in the offseason. Jones' whims continued after he was arrested for reckless driving and resisting arrest in October of 2025. He publicly apologized.

The Pacers traded into the second round of the 2025 draft to get backcourt depth. Now they're trading the guard they got in that draft to get into the second round of the 2026 draft to get another point guard
The Pacers traded Kam Jones -- taken with the No. 38 pick in the 2025 draft after the Pacers acquired that selection from the Spurs -- to the Bulls along with two pick swaps for the No. 38 pick in the 2026 draft and used that selection to take Purdue All-American, Westfield High School star and 2022 Indiana Mr. Basketball Braden Smith. Smith led Purdue to Sweet 16s in each of his last three seasons and finished with an NCAA Division I record 1,103 career **** ists, 8.8 per game.
The Pacers had hoped that Jones would be a fixture as a bench guard after he earned second-team All-America honors as a senior at Marquette, but a lower back injury derailed the early portion of his rookie season and the Pacers didn't see as much progress as they would have liked once he got on the floor. Jones averaged 4.4 points per game as a rookie on 40.2% shooting including 29.3% from 3-point range. He averaged 3.2 **** ists per game against 1.0 turnovers.
In Smith, the Pacers get the shortest and lightest player who was invited to the NBA Draft Combine at 5-10 1/4, 166 pounds. However, they've seen in T.J. McConnell that undersized point guards can be effective, especially in a bench role. With McConnell now 34 years old, the Pacers have to expect they'll need to replace him in the rotation at some point and it's still helpful to have four point guard options on the roster.
Like McConnell, Smith is limited in the defensive matchups he can take, but he can take ball-handlers at the point of attack and he's one of the best distributors in college basketball history. He can also get to the rim and shoot from outside so Smith can also brings points as a depth piece in the backcourt. He averaged 15.8 points per game as a junior and 14.3 per game as a senior, earning first-team All-America honors in each of those two seasons.

It seemed like it was going to be a quiet day on the Marquette To NBA front as there was no chance of Ben Gold or Chase Ross getting selected in Wednesday night’s second round of the NBA Draft. However, Indiana Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan and Chicago Bulls general manager Stephen Mervis had different ideas. After Chicago selected Purdue guard Braden Smith with the 8th pick of the second round and the 38th pick overall, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania broke some news on a trade:
Former Marquette guard Kam Jones is headed to the Windy City.
Indiana is trading Jones to the Bulls along with some yet to be revealed future pick swaps and cash in exchange for the draft rights to Smith.
Jones was the #38 pick one year ago, technically being selected by San Antonio before a trade that was finalized after the fact sent him to the Pacers, much like this trade will eventually be finalized because the NBA rules about the league schedule are weird and bad. Marquette’s #2 all time leading scorer appeared in 37 games for Indiana this past season as the Pacers went 19-63 with Tyrese Haliburton out for the year after suffering an Achilles tear in the 2025 NBA Finals. Jones started seven times along the way and ended up averaging 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 3.2 ******* ists in 16.6 minutes per game. One thing that did not help Jones’ playing time was his 29.3% three-point shooting, and that was dragged down by shooting just 25% in Indiana’s final seven games of the season.
After being taken in the second round last year, Jones signed a three year contract with the Pacers that has a fourth season on a team option. In theory, that means that the Bulls are up for the idea of continuing Jones’ development for at least another two seasons. I would wager it means we will see him in Chicago black & red when Summer League pops up in July. Where things go from there as Tiago Splitter takes over as head coach and the Bulls move on from the front office pairing of Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley, we will have to wait and see…..

The record $131,380 average IRA balance is skewed upward by over 559,000 millionaire accounts, making it a poor benchmark for most savers.
Generational averages offer sharper context: Boomers average $257,002, Gen X $103,952, Millennials $25,109, and Gen Z $6,672, gaps driven by compounding time.
Gen Z IRA contributions surged 65% year over year and 67% of all contributions flowed into Roth accounts, signaling younger savers betting on higher future taxes.
A recent study identified one single habit that doubled Americans' retirement savings and moved retirement from dream, to reality. Read more here.
The headline number from Fidelity's Q1 2026 retirement ****** ysis is striking. The average IRA balance now sits at $131,380, and IRA contributions hit a record, climbing 29% year over year. More Americans are funding these accounts too, with the number of contributing Fidelity IRA holders up 28% from a year earlier. That makes the average a useful starting point, but not a complete picture.

As investors continue hunting for the next breakout story in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, attention has started converging on a less flashy but increasingly critical segment of the market, data center networking, where Marvell Technology (MRVL) has emerged as a key name in focus.
KeyBanc sharpened that narrative by raising its price target on Marvell to $385 from $260 on Thursday, June 18. This helped push the stock up 7.27% in intraday trading as the market priced in the upgraded outlook. In fact, the stock made its new 52-week high of $329.88 that day.

Richie Saunders was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 32nd pick in 2026 NBA Draft.
His game grew with every passing year in Provo, and he now looks to provide a spark in Memphis. But that will take some time as Saunders continues to recover from an ACL injury suffered in February.
Here is what he can bring to the Grizzlies.
Saunders shot 38% from three-point range on seven attempts per game in his final season at BYU. When the opportunities arise, you can trust the senior to hit shots from outside the arc.
Saunders is not only a strong shooter from catch-and-shoots, but also in motion retrieving handoffs or after some shot creation of his own. In a league where the three-point shot continues to become a focal point, the 24-year-old’s skill set can be an **** et if the ability can translate to the NBA level.

BROOKLYN — Richie Saunders is Memphis-bound
The Memphis Grizzlies have picked Saunders No. 32 overall in the second round of Wednesday’s NBA Draft.
Saunders will join his former BYU teammate AJ Dybantsa in the NBA, with the latter being chosen Tuesday with the draft’s No. 1 pick by the Washington Wizards.
In 25 contests as a senior for the Cougars this past season before suffering a torn ACL, Saunders averaged 18.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting just shy of 38% from 3-point range.
During his junior campaign, the Riverton native scored 16.5 points per game, made 43% of his 3-pointers, earned First Team All-Big 12 honors and led BYU to its first Sweet 16 since 2011.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is one of the fastest-growing high-bandwidth memory stocks to buy. The company added a memory-focused AI infrastructure angle on June 15, 2026, when it acquired MEXT, a startup developing AI-driven memory optimization technology. AMD said MEXT's software is designed to make flash behave more like DRAM, expanding usable memory capacity while maintaining performance and efficiency. That does not make AMD an HBM producer, but it does put the deal squarely within the same bottleneck driving HBM demand: AI models, ****** ytics, virtualization, and high-performance computing workloads increasingly need larger, faster memory pools.
AMD said the acquisition expands its AI portfolio and should help customers reduce the total cost of ownership, improve resource utilization, and scale workloads more effectively. The update also follows AMD's Q1 2026 results, where revenue rose 38% year over year, and Data Center revenue increased 57%, helped by EPYC demand and continued Instinct GPU shipments.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) designs CPUs, GPUs, adaptive computing products, and data-center accelerators for cloud, enterprise, gaming, embedded, and AI infrastructure markets.
While we acknowledge the potential of AMD as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. The prevailing views on Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) stock remain relentlessly negative. After the stock's brief spike last September, investors turned on the company because its massive backlog is partially backed by a $300 billion deal with ChatGPT parent OpenAI, and many investors continue to question whether that company can meet the terms of its contract with Oracle.
Although its stock has begun to recover from the 52-week low, Oracle is still down 44% from its peak. Consequently, the question for investors is whether the pullback makes Oracle a buy or whether they should remain negative on the cloud stock.

It has now been more than nine months since Oracle's report for the first quarter of fiscal 2026 (ended Aug. 31, 2025). At the time, its remaining performance obligation (backlog) in fiscal Q1 had risen from $138 billion to $455 billion, a 230% increase in a single quarter.
Most of that gain came from the aforementioned deal with OpenAI. Investors began to question whether OpenAI was in a position financially to live up to the terms of that deal, and all the stock gains driven by it reversed in subsequent weeks.

In 2024, China announced export controls on antimony. It's a metal most people have never heard of, but antimony goes into more than 200 types of military munitions.
Within weeks, the price went from $1,400 per ton to $38,000 — a 2,600% spike — and shipments to the United States fell 97%.
Today, Beijing is setting up for something bigger. And REalloys (NASDAQ: ALOY) — a U.S.-based mine-to-magnet rare earth company — has spent years getting ready for it.
The company holds an exclusive 80% offtake from the only non-Chinese rare earth processing plant in North America capable of processing heavy rare earths. And it operates its own metallization facility in Euclid, Ohio, and plans to source feedstock from the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Greenland, which means no Chinese inputs at any step.
The heavy rare earth materials at the center of China's next mineral weaponization, like dysprosium and terbium, are precisely the ones REalloys has spent years positioning to supply.

The Golden State Warriors got their man at the 2026 NBA Draft, selecting Michigan's Yaxel Lendeborg with the No. 11 overall selection Tuesday night.
Lendeborg will be able to contribute to Golden State's rotation right away as one of the strongest wing defenders in the 2026 class. However, as opposed to other prospects, Lendeborg was one of the older players to hear his name called in round one. Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. addressed this after the draft but showed no signs of concern for his age. “He’s, what, 23, almost 24? I’m not worried because he’s not 38.” Dunleavy Jr. is, of course, joking, alluding to the fact that Steph Curry will be entering his age 38 season. But it's clear to see that Lendeborg's age isn't a concern for Golden State, as they were one of the few lottery teams in a "win-now" mode.

LONDON (AP) — Host England was first into the Women's Twenty20 World Cup semifinals with a group match to spare after beating the West Indies by 38 runs at sweltering Lord's on Wednesday.
Both former one-time champions came to the matchup unbeaten, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge batted England out of reach with 65 off 42 ***** . Wyatt-Hodge is the tournament's leading run-scorer with 193, averaging 65.
The West Indies can still advance if it beats winless Ireland in its last group match on Saturday.
On the hottest June day on record in Britain the evening game started at 35 degrees C and an air temperature of 41 C, and England made an impressive 186-7, the highest women's T20 total at Lord's and the second highest by a men's or women's side.
No team has chased down 187 at a World Cup and West Indies was limited to 148-5. The required run rate was at 10 after only two overs and after 69-4 in the 11th over the team appeared to have no interest in attacking the target despite a sloppy fielding effort by England.

Tottenham Hotspur have entered advanced discussions to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Spurs have made a strong move for the 21-year-old Portuguese international, conducting parallel negotiations with both the player’s representatives and the West Ham board to strike a deal and give Roberto De Zerbi a key midfield addition. Consequently, Fernandes is now open to moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after initially looking like he had his heart set on joining Man United.
The sudden acceleration from Spurs comes as they look to overtake long-term suitors Manchester United. While the Old Trafford recruitment team has maintained consistent dialogue with Fernandes’ representatives for several months, Tottenham have changed the landscape by presenting a superior financial package. The North Londoners have offered Fernandes a higher overall wage and have shown a strong willingness to edge closer to West Ham’s premium valuation, whereas United remain reluctant to be drawn into a protracted bidding war.
West Ham are holding firm on a steep asking price of around £85 million before approving a move for the central midfielder. The Hammers want to maximise profit on an ***** et they signed from Southampton for £38 million last summer. Any leverage potential suitors hoped to use after West Ham’s relegation has been neutralised by a £90 million cash injection from shareholders. This substantial influx has strengthened West Ham’s financial stability, giving them a strong negotiating position to sanction any move for Fernandes on their own terms.
Despite West Ham’s struggles last season, Fernandes’ stock rose considerably, attracting interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, ***** nal, as well as United and Spurs.

A man was tortured, doused in petrol and set on fire to be "taught a lesson" after he lost 10 million cigarettes that were worth £1m, a murder trial has heard.
Tomasz Samel was kidnapped in 2019 in Birmingham by three men claiming to be from Interpol, before being driven to the Liverpool area and attacked, prosecutors have alleged.
On Wednesday, Birmingham Crown Court was told the 45-year-old father of two, who was the subject of an international arrest warrant, had then been dumped in a remote location and died in hospital about three months later.
Neil Jones, Kevin Wooden, Kye Arthur and Tobiasz Kozlowski have been accused of Samel's murder, which they deny.
Wooden, 46, of Alma Road, Banbury, Oxfordshire, Arthur, 35, of Copley Gardens, Bristol, Jones, 48, of no fixed address, and Kozlowski, 38, of Crosland Road, Kirkby, Merseyside, also deny conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 2026-27 Auburn men's basketball roster is taking shape. On Tuesday, the Tigers officially signed one of the top international players in Lithuanian guard Mantas Rubstavicius. He is one of the final players to make up the group that Steven Pearl will be leading into the upcoming season.
Rubstavicius is an extremely talented player who is a scoring threat in multiple ways. For his team in the Lithuanian Basketball League, he averaged 7.8 points per game. He can hit various shots from beyond the three-point line, whether it be an open shot or off the dribble. He doesn't have a problem knocking down shots while being contested, either. Rubstavicius is not just a three-point shooter; he can also score around the basket as well.
"He brings a unique combination of size, shooting ability, versatility, and basketball IQ that allows him to impact the game in a variety of ways," Pearl said on the signing. "Just as importantly, he has earned a reputation as a selfless teammate, high-character individual, and proven winner who has consistently contributed to successful teams throughout his career."
Rubstavicius helped lead the Lithuanian national team to the silver medal in the 2022 FIBA U20 Championship by averaging 19.7 points per game and 38 points versus France in the semifinals. He would lead the tournament in scoring.
Auburn has made an emphasis this off-season to add size and shooting for the upcoming season. Those are two areas in which the Tigers were inconsistent last season as they missed the NCAA Tournament. This Tigers team has the talent to be a much-improved basketball squad.

June 24 (Reuters) - Cerebras shares tumbled about 14% before the bell on Wednesday after the chip designer warned that annual profit margins ‌would undershoot first-quarter figures in its debut earnings following a ‌blockbuster initial public offering.
If the losses hold through the open, the stock is expected to trade at its lowest level since listing more than a month ago and is on track to wipe out over $6 billion in market value.
Cerebras forecast adjusted gross margins of 38% to 41% for 2026, compared with the 47% it reported ‌for the first quarter.
The projection is far below those of rivals such as Nvidia's mid-70% range and Advanced Micro Devices' mid-50%, even as it came above ***** ysts' estimates of 29.58%.
Analysts have flagged that gross margins could be pressured by the company manufacturing relatively larger-sized chips, and as it rents back its own systems from an existing client to meet short-term demand while it ‌builds out more data center capacity.

The Oklahoma City Thunder landed Iowa star Bennett Stirtz in the first trade of the night on Tuesday.
The Thunder selected Stirtz with the No. 16 overall pick in the NBA Draft on Tuesday, thanks to a late trade they made with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies briefly got the No. 17 overall pick, but dealt that away to the Detroit Pistons almost immediately to move back to No. 21. That netted them three additional future second round picks. While the full list of picks that the Grizzlies secured is not yet known, the organization ended up gaining five second-round picks to move back just five spots.
Stirtz averaged 19.8 points and 4.4 **** ists per game last season with the Hawkeyes. He transferred into Iowa City from Drake, following head coach Ben McCollum after he made the jump last summer, too. The All-Big Ten guard played nearly 38 minutes per game and helped the Hawkeyes reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 1987. They ended up falling to Illinois in that round of the tournament.
The move came just days after the Thunder sent Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for two future second-round picks, the first in 2030 and the second in 2032. That trade could end up saving the Thunder more than $60 million. The Thunder also selected Michigan big man Aday Mara at No. 12 overall on Tuesday night. The 7-foot-3 center was the best true big man in the draft class, and could be a possible answer for San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama in the Western Conference. Wembanyama and the Spurs beat the Thunder to reach the NBA Finals earlier this year, ending the Thunders' hopes for back-to-back **** les after their championship in 2025.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) ranks as the Best Data Center Stocks That Are Cheaper Than the S&P 500. Although the stock has declined roughly 21% on a year-to-date basis over macroeconomic concerns and massive AI capital expenditure forecasts, the Street expects more than 44% upside over the next 12 months.
Recently, on June 15, Reuters reported that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is facing a lawsuit from the shareholders accusing the company of securities fraud, with plaintiffs claiming it concealed slowing growth in its Azure cloud business and downplayed the cost of its AI infrastructure buildout.
According to Reuters, the case was filed in Seattle federal court and was followed by a 10% single-day drop in Microsoft's stock on January 29, which wiped out roughly $357 billion in market value. The trigger for the lawsuit was the company's fiscal second-quarter earnings, which showed Azure revenue growth slipping to 39% from 40% the prior quarter, with a further projected slowdown to 37%–38%. Moreover, the capital spending also came in at $37.5 billion, up 66% year-over-year and above **** yst expectations.
The lawsuit alleges Microsoft failed to adequately disclose that AI-related investments, including its Copilot chatbot and OpenAI partnership, were straining resources and constraining Azure's growth capacity. Microsoft has called the claims "without merit" and says it will vigorously defend itself.
That said, TD Cowen maintained a Buy rating on Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) with a $540 price target on June 4. The firm highlighted that the company has launched seven new self-built AI models designed for fine-tuning and cost optimization. TD Cowen sees this as a meaningful shift in how Microsoft approaches AI development. The firm also noted that these models will reduce the company's dependency on external frontier labs for AI capabilities.
