Michael Wilbon isn't ready to say ESPN's NFL reporting can't be trusted now that the league owns a piece of the network. But he's also not pretending the question is out of bounds, either.
Appearing on the Awful Announcing Podcast with host Brandon Contes, Wilbon was asked whether ESPN's NFL coverage still merits trust now that the league holds a 10 percent equity stake in the network.
"My answer to that philosophically is trust," he said. "I wouldn't go as far as can't trust. View skeptically? OK."
Wilbon grounded his trust in ESPN's individual reporters in decades spent covering the league himself, name-checking Adam Schefter specifically and pointing to a wider array of NFL reporters he knew personally well before any of them worked for ESPN — some of whom, he noted, aren't even on television regularly anymore but still do the reporting that matters."
"I know how good Adam Schefter is," Wilbon continued. "Do I trust Adam Schefter? You ****** right I do."

It was an afternoon when much of the focus was on the location, but it ended in celebration.
Preston North End booked their place in round two of the Carabao Cup after showing character and composure in a memorable match on Merseyside for two new signings.
A red card for Lewis Gibson midway through the first half had Paul Heckingbottom's men on the ropes but they cleared their heads and found a way to hit back.
Goodison Park became home for a day just under 60 years after Howard Kendall famously made the 35-mile journey from Preston to sign for the Toffees.
'The Grand Old Lady' has played temporary host to visitors before, including Pele's Brazil in 1966, Sir Matt Busby's Manchester United and the FA Cup final in 1894 and 1910.

Jonah Coleman has always been the perfect advertisement for Jedd Fisch's "Be A Pro" mantra with the Washington Huskies.
Early in his tenure with the Denver Broncos, after the AFC West organization selected him in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft, Coleman has already begun to establish himself as a key piece of Sean Payton's rotation at running back, after the head coach told the media he "doesn't feel like a rookie" on Wednesday.
Coleman has quickly picked up steam ahead of his first season in the league, as NFL.com's Gennaro Filice placed him on his preseason All-Rookie Team.
"Checking in at 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, Coleman is a bowling ball with three-down ability, having eclipsed 1,100 scrimmage yards in each of his final three college campaigns," Filice wrote.
"It's a crowded running back room in Denver, but J.K. Dobbins has never stayed healthy for a full season while RJ Harvey performed best in a specialized role as a rookie. Sean Payton likes taking a committee approach at the position, and Coleman seems like the kind of experienced, well-rounded back who can hit the ground running in the NFL, carving out a significant role in Year 1. He lacks game-breaking speed, but I envision him routinely moving the chains behind Denver's stout offensive line."

Dzenan Pejcinovic is one step closer to completing his dream move to Stuttgart, as Wolfsburg's sporting director, Dieter Hecking, confirmed total agreement on Saturday. After Wolfsburg's goalless draw with Kaiserslautern, the club's former coach said they had agreed with a club on his transfer, without mentioning Stuttgart.
Wolfsburg declined multiple offers for the Germany U21 international, while FC Porto's attempt to lure the striker was also rejected by the player. However, the 21-year-old is keen to join Stuttgart this summer.
Pejcinovic was named in Wolfsburg's squad for the 2. Bundesliga opener, but he ended the game against Kaiserslautern as an unused substitute. According to Kicker, the two clubs reached full agreement on a €25 million transfer fee.
After Kicker's confirmation, Sky Sports reported there is still one key detail yet to be negotiated between the clubs despite Hecking's statement. Nonetheless, they also noted the deal is in an advanced stage.

Five dividend stocks, among them ARLP and BKR, share an August 7 ex-date, so buyers must act by market close on August 6 if they want to collect the next distribution.
CFFN and BKR carry the strongest payout coverage, while ARLP's 9% yield already absorbed a 2025 cut and still exceeds trailing EPS.
Act now: the ******* yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Baker Hughes didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Five dividends land in investor accounts this month, but only for people who own the shares before Friday, August 7. That's the ex-dividend date every one of the names below shares, which turns a routine income roundup into a timing exercise. The buy-by deadline is the close of trading on Thursday, August 6.
One of the five (a coal MLP with real coverage questions) carries a supersized yield; the rest have varying yields but they're still worth checking out. The main point here is the ex-date, and a quick read on whether each payout looks safe.

The Tennessee ******* ans were back out there bright and early on Aug. 6, getting in a practice before the following night's fan scrimmage at Nissan Stadium. Here's a few thoughts from the sideline:
Second-year receiver Elic Ayomanor has been one of the clear standouts of the early days of ******* ans training camp.
So, of course, Ayomanor was injured during a red-zone drill, going for a pass in the corner of the end zone between the coverage of Alontae Taylor and an arriving Kevin Winston Jr.
Ayomanor appeared to be knocked to the ground by Winston and hurt his shoulder. ******* ans coach Robert Saleh said afterward that the shoulder "feels stable" but there was more the team needed to check. Saleh didn't fault the physicality of a "bang, bang" play and complemented Winston for his "range" in getting there. (Winston ended up with the ball in his hands. He intercepted the pass, but evidently he hadn't stayed inbounds).
I did see Winston later walk behind the end zone all the way to the offensive sideline, and I'd presume that he was checking on Ayomanor, his fellow rookie from last season.

Aug. 6—There's hardly been an offseason that's passed in Champaign without some word out of Ubben Basketball Complex about the next Illinois team playing faster. Has it actually happened? Not always.
Last year's Illini ranked 288th nationally in adjusted tempo, per Bart Torvik. Was Illinois quick into actions once it got into its halfcourt offense? Sure. Quick getting up and down the court? Not quite.
The 2024-25 Illini ranked highest in tempo, checking in at 17th nationally, but Underwood's Illinois teams have run the gamut in that metric. Last year's was the slowest, but for good reason.
Keaton Wagler dictated pace for Illinois in 2025-26. The freshman guard was at his best in a halfcourt setting, so that's how the Illini played.
"Keaton was elite in ball screens," Underwood said. "We were No. 1 in the country, he was, in points on ball screens. We figured that out pretty quick that he was very good at that."

Modern medicines and treatments have led to a growing demand for advanced patient diagnostics. To tailor medicines for patients in prenatal care or with cancer, you need to understand more about their bodies and specific genetic makeup.
Natera specializes in bridging the gap between doctors and patients, using innovative cell-free DNA testing to help diagnose outcomes. Specifically, it serves the prenatal and cancer testing markets. For pregnant patients, a doctor can use a Natera test to diagnose any problems with the fetus, all with minimal physical intervention. Its cancer testing has a variety of use cases, but an important one is checking for residual disease evidence in patients, which can be invaluable for someone dealing with cancer in remission.

Thank you, Jeju – ******* o, Hong Kong! On the fourth day of the Audi Summer Tour, FC Bayern moved on from the South Korean island of Jeju to Hong Kong. Head coach Vincent Kompany's team received an enthusiastic welcome in the metropolis, where they'll stay until Friday and take part in the Audi Football Summit against Aston Villa (Friday, 14:00 CEST, live on FC Bayern TV PLUS) as well as training sessions, media appearances and partner events. fcbayern.com brings you an overview of the Wednesday on the Audi Summer Tour.
Following a training session at the hotel on Jeju in the morning, Bayern departed for Hong Kong. After the flight of around three hours, Luis Díaz and colleagues were already enthusiastically welcomed at the airport. Then at the team hotel, too, a large number of supporters cheered the German record champions, making it a very pleasant arrival.
In the evening, Bayern legends Giovane Elber and Roy Makaay visited one of the six FC Bayern Pop-Up Stores in Hong Kong. Since 31 July, fans have been able to purchase, among other things, the shirt with the specially made nameset for Hong Kong here, which the team will wear in the friendly against Aston Villa. Mascot Berni also paid the store a visit on Wednesday.

After checking in at the team hotel in Hong Kong, several media appearances were on the agenda for Jonas Urbig and others, with the players answering questions from international and travelling German journalists. "You feel a total openness and affection from the people," said Urbig about the Audi Summer Tour. "This euphoria that we're met with is very special. We're happy to take the time to go the fans, take photos and sign autographs. I'm really enjoying the trip."

Bochum's first season back in the 2. Bundesliga did not unfold as many had hoped, but there is renewed optimism around the Vonovia Ruhrstadion as Uwe Rösler prepares for his first full campaign in charge.
After stabilising the club following a difficult start last season, the former Fortuna Düsseldorf boss now has the opportunity to shape the squad in his own image and guide Bochum towards the upper end of the table.
Bochum's response to relegation began in disastrous fashion. Under Dieter Hecking, they won just one of their opening eight league matches while losing the other seven, leaving the club firmly in the relegation battle.
Rösler arrived in October and quickly transformed Bochum's fortunes. His side lost just one of his first 15 league games in charge, climbing comfortably away from danger and ultimately finishing ninth with 44 points, seven clear of the relegation zone.
Bochum have been busy rebuilding their squad this summer, bringing in ten new faces. Nine have arrived on free transfers, while Michael Steinwender joined from Hearts for an undisclosed fee.

Linda Blair says her dog rescue remains under control after authorities found 251 animals at her Southern California property. The Exorcist star maintains that paperwork and permit issues, not the dogs' welfare, triggered the investigation. Officials found no signs that the animals were sick or injured. However, the county's review remains active as neighbors question the number of dogs housed at the facility.
Authorities served an investigative warrant at Blair's 2.5-acre property after the kennel's permits reportedly expired in 2023, TMZ reported. The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning said officials had made 24 attempts to arrange inspections over three years.
Officials counted 251 dogs while checking structures and possible code violations. Law enforcement told the outlet that "no dogs showed signs of illness or injury," and authorities did not remove any animals.
Blair addressed the search in a Facebook video. "I am fine, the animals are fine," she said, describing the dispute as a matter involving paperwork and updated property diagrams. She also said she had been trying to relocate so she could expand her rescue work.
The new information follows an earlier search of Blair's property, which initially focused on a kennel believed to house more than 100 dogs. The latest count more than doubled that estimate.

The possibility of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement to join the Los Angeles Rams is perhaps the biggest storyline around the NFL. Andrew Whitworth added fuel to the fire as he seems to expect Donald will be rejoining the Rams at some point.
Whether it's Sean McVay, Whitworth, Donald himself, no one is saying it's not going to happen. At this point, people are mostly and moreso saying that Donald is more likely to come back than not. That can change, and Donald may not come back, but it's being set up that he's expected to return. For now.
If that is truly announced, that will be major news. Until then, it's speculation, and it's still news as is.
Thank you for checking out Turf Show Times and have a great Tuesday! NFL season is getting closer.
"A lot of people think about the games and stuff, but it's really putting your body through the impacts and the down in and down out of running into other big, strong humans all the time," he said. "Your tissue doesn't just walk around ready for that. You've got to prepare, and so I think some of this was him, 'Hey, is the passion still there? Do I still have that ability to be sore as ******* and every day wanting to go chase it. And I think for him, that kind of meant for the last month, month and a half, really training like a football player and doing some of the drills, some of the things he used to do day in and day out and seeing where he's at physically. And that's some of the stuff we talked about. I asked him where he's at. Is he still training? Does he still think he wants to do it? I think there's still a definite curiosity to do it. I think he's super fired up about trying to see if it's there, but I think it takes time to find out, is the drive still there?"

The trade deadline is one of the most hectic days of the entire regular season for all ball clubs, whether you are a fan of a team that is already looking ahead to the next season for how they can improve or a team that is in the middle of a playoff race and hoping to see October baseball, it's a day where all of us are constantly checking MLBTradeRumors or refreshing our twitter feeds for the next Jeff Passan bomb to grace our timeline.
Coming off a series victory over the Cleveland Guardians where the Dbacks would end up going 10-6 from the start of the 2nd half to the last day before the deadline, there was hope among fans and players on the team that GM Mike Hazen would go ahead and be an aggressive buyer and fill the positional needs this team has shown to be lacking throughout 2026. What we got was…far from the outcome we had been hoping for to say the least.
With today being the last day for teams to make trades before the deadline at 6 PM EST, the notifications from the top baseball reporters were going off all day. We saw nearly every NL playoff hopeful make some kind of move to strengthen their rosters, especially the teams like the Padres, Phillies, Cubs and even Pirates who are all still jockeying for one of the 3 Wild Card spots. There were some rumors about the Diamondbacks being involved in discussions for players like Casey Mize of the Tigers, or Alec Burleson from the Cardinals, but that's where it always seemed to end at just a "discussion" and nothing being finalized.

I sat there watching the time tick away thinking "Alright, (Mike) Hazen will get something done before time is up,let him cook" and kept repeating that to myself, but once the final 10 to 15 minutes approached I got nervous that we might not see anything come to fruition, but right as I had that thought, the news finally came through and the Snakes made a move.
Brandon, Gabe and I planned to have a deadline special episode where we would discuss all the moves that were made for the Diamondbacks and who was dealt for the reinforcements that we were sure were on their way, but like a lot of other online we were quite disappointed to see that the only trade Mike Hazen would be was trading Daniel Eagan (#5 prospect), Sandro Santana (#26 Prospect) and a Player-To-Be-Named-Later (PTBNL) in exchange for Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbar. Noot did miss a good chunk of time to start the season due to injury so his .234/.333/.354 line with 3 HR and 16 RBI might not seem like the most exciting numbers to Dback's fans, but some of his underlying metrics give fans some more hope that he could be a solid addition for a team that is still well in the wild card race.
While the addition of Nootbar does at least improve the roster by bringing in a guy who has a solid walk rate and low chase % (also would mean we have a player who can slot in for Kepler should we hold onto that playoff spot), the Diamondbacks biggest needs going into the deadline was more Starting Pitching an

The wide receiver position for the Indianapolis Colts had its question marks entering training camp, and now five practices in, those unknowns still very much linger.
Following Michael Pittman's departure this offseason, the WR3 role alongside Alec Pierce and Josh Downs is up for grabs, but really how the rest of the depth chart from spots three through six will shake out still has to be determined.
"Quarterback Daniel Jones is checking all the boxes coming off his Achilles tendon injury in 2025, but the same perhaps cannot be said for his wide receivers," said ESPN's Stephen Holder. "He's got Alec Pierce still out of the lineup after offseason ankle surgery, and behind him is Josh Downs, who is off to a hot start but the remaining group, there are very much still a lot of questions. And who's going to step up as that No. 3 receiver? Will the Colts continue to evaluate the free agent market? And so a lot of uncertainty at wide receiver."
Not helping matters is that Pierce is still sidelined at the moment, which takes away this unit's big playmaking threat while also shedding light on the lack of depth.
The play of the Colts' cornerbacks, Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward, and their ability to each shut down their side of the field is adding to the challenge as well.

The 2026 football season for the Auburn Tigers is on the horizon. As we anticipate the start of the season, let's introduce you to a key member of the 2026 roster.
The Auburn Tigers have plenty of potential playmakers on their defensive front for the 2026 college football season. One of those players is Chris Murray. He showed what he was capable of during the 2025 season with 3.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. His best game of the season was in the win over Mercer with two sacks and one forced fumble.
Before being at Auburn, Murray played three seasons at Sam Houston State. Over his time there, he had 6.5 total sacks and 13 tackles for loss. He was a three-star recruit as a transfer portal addition for the 2025 season. He originally signed with TCU before transferring to Sam Houston State in December after the 2021 season. Murray was a three-star recruit from Texas and was a part of the 2021 recruiting class.

Preston North End skipper Ben Whiteman has told boss Paul Heckingbottom he "has played his last game" for the club amid attention from fellow Championship side Wrexham.
The midfielder only missed three Championship games for Preston last season but Heckingbottom does not seem likely to welcome him back with open arms should a move over the Welsh border not materialise.
"Ben knew there was a line I didn't want him to cross and unfortunately he has," Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"There's a valuation on him, I just hope for Ben's sake that Wrexham are willing to pay it otherwise he's put himself in a sticky situation.
"He's made his bed. I'm not bothered as long as I get another player."

Marriage is not a requirement. Any two people with equal withdrawal rights on a joint account qualify for up to $500,000 in combined FDIC coverage.

If you have a checking, savings, or CD account at any FDIC-insured bank, you already know the sticker on the door: $250,000 in coverage per depositor. What that sticker doesn't tell you is that a married couple can walk into the same branch and legally shelter $1 million in FDIC-insured deposits without opening an account at a second bank. The trick is more ownership categories at the bank you already use, rather than more banks.

George Kamel calls spousal allowance systems 'offensive to all people groups,' arguing they treat marriage like an employment contract and breed resentment.
Kamel recommends one joint checking account with a shared budget and equal no-questions-asked fun-money lines for each spouse.
Even on a $6,000 monthly budget, setting equal $200 fun-money amounts for each spouse makes financial partnership operational regardless of who earns the paycheck.

Ramsey Solutions personality George Kamel does not mince words about the "splowance" trend on social media. In his segment 22 Minutes of Family Money Disasters, he reacted to a woman who pitched a structured monthly allowance system where a husband pays his wife a $300 base rate, plus tiered bonuses called "sweets" ($15 each) and "spoils" ($25 each) for acts like love notes or massages. His verdict: the whole framework of one spouse doling out money to the other should be "offensive to all people groups."

A little more than a month stands between now and the start of Florida football's 2026 campaign. As a new era dawns in the Swamp with the arrival of Jon Sumrall and his hand-picked staff, the Gator Nation is feeling positive heading into the program's 114th season.
However, once again the Orange and Blue face one of the toughest schedules in the nation — particularly after the SEC expanded its conference slate to nine games — checking in at No. 7 in ESPN's 2026 preseason rankings. The Gators are looking to bounce back from a 4-8 finish last season, but like in recent years, it will not be easy.
Which brings us to the current topic at hand: ranking Florida's opponents for this coming season in order of difficulty from easiest to toughest. Sumrall and Co. will face one FCS team — the Campbell Fighting Camels — in Week 2 and the FAU Owls — an American Athletic Conference member — in Week 1. Otherwise, the schedule is packed with challenging conference opponents, as well as an FSU Seminoles squad that is also seeking to improve from last season.
Below is a look at all 12 opponents that the Gators will face this fall, ranked in order of their Football Power Index ratings; Florida checks in at No. 18 in the FPI with a 13.6 rating. Also included is each team's 2025 record as well as the all-time record between the two competing schools.
Here is how things pan out based on those parameters. Make note that each school's overall FPI ranking is included in parentheses.
