OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens cornerback and 2024 first-round draft pick Nate Wiggins was carted off the field roughly an hour into Tuesday's practice after suffering a left leg injury.
Wiggins tangled with rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane during one-on-one drills and fell to the turf. He appeared unable to put weight on the leg as he entered the team facility.
Asked about the potential seriousness of the injury, first-year head coach Jesse Minter said Wiggins was still being evaluated.
"Not a whole lot," Minter responded. "I think there's optimism, but again, we'll look at it, we'll see where it's at. It's one of those plays, really not much between the two guys in the play. So whether it was hitting the ground or whatever it was, we'll see what it looks like."
Wiggins' injury comes two practices after two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Zay Flowers left Friday's session with a thigh bruise. Flowers returned to limited action Tuesday after missing Sunday's practice.

Kickoff against Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, is inching closer, marking the debut of Texas A&M's new offensive and defensive coordinators.
After spending the last two seasons in Bryan-College Station as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, Holmon Wiggins is preparing for his first campaign as the primary play-caller, entering his 23rd year coaching football. The Los Angeles, California, native was named the replacement for Colin Klein, who accepted the head coaching opening at his alma mater, Kansas State.
The return of quarterback Marcel Reed and a slew of playmakers like Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, Ashton Bethel-Roman and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton provides Wiggins with one of the most talented groups in the Southeastern Conference.
On the other side of the ball, Lyle Hemphill is set for his first year as defensive coordinator, after being in the same role at James Madison in 2024. Last season, he served as the **** ociate head coach for the defense, but was promoted after Jay Bateman left to be Kentucky's defensive coordinator.
While Mike Elko is the primary defensive mastermind of the Aggies, Hemphill has been coaching for 24 years and has spent eight total seasons as the primary defensive coordinator with the Dukes, Wake Forest and Stony Brook.

Wiggins had to be carted off the field at Thursday's practice. Reports from the practice field say Wiggins couldn't put weight on his left leg after his feet got tangled with wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane during a drill.
After practice, head coach Jesse Minter said there is optimism that Wiggins avoided a major injury but that things are still being evaluated.

The Baltimore Ravens won't have to wait until the regular season to see how their defense responds to one of the NFL's most difficult quarterbacks to contain. Minnesota has named Kyler Murray its starting quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The decision adds another layer of intrigue to Baltimore's upcoming trip to Minnesota for two joint practices with the Vikings.
Following Saturday's preseason matchup against the Eagles at M&T Bank Stadium, the Ravens will practice against Minnesota on Aug. 19 and 20 before the teams meet in a preseason game at U.S. Bank Stadium on Aug. 22. The practice sessions could provide Baltimore's starters with their most valuable work against an opposing offense before Week 1.
Murray's arm talent alone would make the two practices worthwhile for Baltimore's secondary. His ability to escape pressure, extend plays and create outside the structure of an offense will test every level of Jesse Minter's defense.
Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, Chidobe Awuzie, Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks will be challenged to remain disciplined when Murray leaves the pocket. Coverage responsibilities don't disappear once the original play breaks down. They often become more difficult as receivers adjust their routes and defenders are forced to cover for an additional three or four seconds.
That will make communication essential. Baltimore's defensive backs have consistently disrupted the passing game during training camp, but facing Murray and Minnesota's collection of pass catchers will offer a more revealing evaluation than competing against the same teammates every day.

Houston Thomas is a College Station native, and while A&M did not offer him out of high school, he has a close relationship with third-year coach Mike Elko going back to his high school playing days, and, during his final season at UTSA, Thomas reeled in 34 receptions for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns, and enters his final collegiate season with the 5th most receiving yards from a tight end in career (916).
During the first two practices, Thomas has reportedly looked the part as a receiver, thriving in the seam given his size advantage and sure hands, which was captured by Texas A&M's media team this week. Similar to Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton, Thomas's large catch radius and experience as one of UTSA's No. 1 receiving targets should make him one of starting quarterback Marcel Reed's top targets this fall.

The Baltimore Ravens waived undrafted rookie cornerback Matthew McDoom, creating a spot on the 90-man training camp roster for inside linebacker Jamon Johnson. McDoom joined Baltimore after completing his college career at Cincinnati. The Florida native spent his first three seasons at Coastal Carolina before transferring to the Bearcats for his senior year.
During four college seasons, McDoom recorded four interceptions and 26 passes defended. He entered training camp facing significant competition in a crowded Baltimore secondary led by Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins and Chidobe Awuzie. T.J. Tampa has also strengthened his case for the fourth cornerback role, while several defensive backs are competing for the remaining roster spots and special teams ****** ignments. That depth made McDoom expendable as the Ravens looked to address another position.
Johnson participated in a three-player workout with Baltimore before agreeing to join the team. The former Saint Frances Academy standout entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 2025 and appeared in two games during his first season.
The 24-year-old began his college career at Georgia, where he played on two national championship teams. Johnson earned second-team ****** ociated Press All-America honors in 2022 after leading the Bulldogs with nine tackles for loss. He transferred to Kentucky for his final season and led the Wildcats with 67 tackles while adding seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception and a forced fumble.

Overall, the takeaways have been varied, ranging from starting quarterback Marcel Reed's increased accuracy and confidence as a passer to junior wide receiver Terry Bussey, who bulked up this summer and improved as a route runner.
Sticking with Texas A&M's borderline elite wide receiver corps, former Alabama wideout Isaiah Horton brings much-needed size to a rotation built on NFL-level talent, led by Mario Cravers' elite twitch and quickness, paired with Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Bussey's track speed. AJ Williams has been regarded by many as a prospect that could play in the NBA almost immediately.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, he took one-step towards that goal as the nation's top 2028 recruit reclassified to the 2027 class, according to On3's Joe Tipton.
Williams is the latest top prospect to reclassify up a class. That list includes four players who ended up being drafted first overall: AJ Dybantsa, Cooper Flagg, Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.
Other recent notable names to reclassify are Marcus Spears Jr., Bruce Branch III, Adan Diggs, Alijah Arenas, Baba Oladotun and Obinna Ekezie Jr.

Nate Wiggins' speed and athletic ability were apparent long before the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Mike Mickens has been more impressed by the work taking place beyond the highlight plays.
The Ravens' new secondary coach described Wiggins as a special talent whose preparation and competitive mindset match his physical gifts.
"He approaches it that way off the field, on the field, in the meeting room," Mickens said on The Ravens Lounge. "He asks questions. He's locked in on the field, working little techniques and details of everything."
Wiggins enters his third season positioned to become Baltimore's top outside cornerback. He has been one of the defense's standout performers during the opening practices of training camp after declaring himself fully healthy.
His 4.28-second speed gives him the recovery ability to survive mistakes that would become completions against most cornerbacks. Mickens wants Wiggins to develop the recognition and technical consistency that reduce the frequency with which he must rely on that speed. The coach also values the confidence Wiggins brings to the room. Cornerbacks must recover quickly from difficult plays because another target can arrive before they have time to dwell on the previous result.

For the first time in a couple of summers, the Oklahoma City Thunder had to recast their complementary pieces. You can't keep the same roster forever. Especially in the NBA. This group experienced that for the first time this offseason as they said goodbye to Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins.
Getting underneath the dreadful second apron, the Thunder had to make three cost-cutting moves. Out go Dort, Joe and Wiggins. In come seven future second-round picks. Even with weighted hearts, don't think anybody was surprised to see the Thunder shake up their role players. Chet Holmgren was the latest to give his reaction to OKC's cost-cutting summer. The All-NBA talent talked at a USA Basketball Foundation charity event in Southern California. The Celtics undoubtedly got worse this offseason, losing Jaylen Brown and essentially replacing him with an aging Paul George. They finally found a reliable center by bringing in Mitchell Robinson, but he’s not much better than Nikola Vučević.

It was a seismic story in the middle of the 2025 Tour de France: a senior member of Ineos Grenadiers staff was sent home from the race over alleged links to a German blood-doping ring.
David Rozman was the head carer (soigneur) of the Ineos cycling team, a job which involves all manner of support for riders including nutrition and massage.
The Slovenian had a long ***** ociation with the team, now known as Netcompany-Ineos Cycling Team, stretching back to 2011 when he joined what was then Team Sky during their heyday, as Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome sparked the British team's near-decade of Tour de France dominance under the leadership of Sir Dave Brailsford.
Rozman was first named publicly in relation to the case by The Irish Independent in an article published during last year's Tour. The next day, L'Equipe splashed the Rozman story, and the Ineos head carer's name was published in the British press for the first time two days later by The Times.
It followed an investigative documentary by German broadcaster ARD called Secret Doping: In the Slipstream, broadcast shortly before the Tour began, in which Rozman was not named for legal reasons. The ARD documentary revealed that a member of Ineos staff had allegedly shared messages with a notorious doping doctor, Mark Schmidt, and that some of those messages were used as evidence in Schmidt's criminal trial.

Johnson's arm talent is undeniable, and while his ability to make plays outside the pocket remains an area in need of improvement, Texas A&M's quarterback future post-Marcel Reed must include the Georgia native in order to avoid a massive drop-off at the most important position. Standing 6'4" and 200-plus pounds, Johnson has already established himself as a playmaker, but like most future college signal callers, consistency is the focus.
The Aggies' 2027 cycle also features four wide receiver commits, led by five-star Eric McFarland, while four-star Jayden Upshaw is equally intriguing given his physical play style and fearlessness making catches in the middle of the field, and combined with three-stars Demani Warren, who's 6'4", and Trey Haddad, who is a natural playmaker, Jayce Johnson will have plenty to work with under center.
After landing four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen, only five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis remains as the Aggies' final uncommitted priority prospect, who will announce his commitment on August 1.
Right now, the Texas Longhorns are the favorites to secure the blue-chip back, but Texas A&M remains a finalist, and Jayce Johnson, who, similar to four-star Edge Kaden McCarty, has been a vocal recruiter for the Aggies via social media and during nearly every interview this offseason. Just days after Texas A&M's first-round loss to Miami in the 2025 College Football Playoff, it was abundantly clear that starting quarterback Marcel Reed needed to improve in several areas, starting with eliminating "mental mistakes" against elite defenses, while the Aggies were set to transfer wide receiver KC Concepcion to the NFL Draft.
Entering his third season, coach Mike Elko was set to lose second-year OC Collin Klein, now Kansas State's head coach, and instead of pursuing an outside hire, Elko elevated WR coach Holmon Wiggins as the new OC and playcaller, while Lyle Hemphill was promoted as the Aggies' new defensive coordinator after Jay Bateman departed for Kentucky.
After Marcel Reed announced his official return, Elko and his staff went to work in the transfer portal, adding 17 players, including former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton, whose 6'4" frame pairs well with junior star wideout Mario Craver, who reeled in 59 receptions, 917 yards and four touchdowns during his first season in College Station.
In the backfield, former five-star prospect and redshirt junior running back Rueben Owens will be tasked with replacing Le'Veon Moss as the starter, but sophomore Jamarion Morrow, who looks like the best one-cut back on the roster, is still in contention for the starting job heading into the preseason.
After completing 62% of his passes for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, paired with 493 rushing yards and six scores, Marcel Reed is equipped with the necessary speed and size at wide receiver to thrive in the pocket, and while four new starting offensive linemen could result in some early blocking issues, the expectations remain high for the Aggie offense.

Carson Wiggins attended Roland High School in Roland, Oklahoma, where he quickly set himself apart from the pack as a legitimate baseball pitching prospect on the travel ball circuit as well as in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities **** ociation. Between his freshman and senior seasons, Wiggins transformed from a tall and lanky 5’10”, 145-pound string bean into a 6’5”, 210-pound baseball behemoth. On the power of a fastball that sat in the mid-to-upper-90s and a devastating breaking ball, the big right-hander struck out 261 batters in 117.0 total innings with the Roland Rangers and posted a 0.97 ERA in 36.0 innings in his senior year, allowing nine hits and striking out 93 batters.
A highly scouted pitching prospect, who many believed was the number one high school pitching prospect in the state, Wiggins had had a strong commitment to the University of Arkansas and was not drafted in the 2024 MLB Draft as a result. His older brother, Jaxon, had been drafted by the Cubs with the 68th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of the university, and now coach head coach Van Horn would have another Wiggins to work with.
The right-hander got off to a quick start in his first season at Arkansas, striking out batters in bunches out of the Razorbacks bullpen. Through 14 appearances, he posted a 3.21 ERA, allowing 7 hits, walking 9, and striking out 20 batters in 14.0 innings. Unfortunately, in late April, Wiggins hurt his elbow and had his season end prematurely. UCL internal brace surgery- a procedure that anchors the ligament in place to allow it to heal properly in lieu of Tommy John surgery- followed, costing the right-hander not just the rest of the 2025 season, but all of 2026 as well, as his doctors recommended that the right-hander not pitch despite considering him fully healthy, much to the dismay of coach Van Horn.
Prior to his injury, the 6’5”, 215-pound right-hander threw from a three-quarters arm slot with a simple, loose, repeatable delivery without many moving parts. For the most part, he was a two-pitch pitcher, relying on a four-seam fastball and a power breaking ball; he occasionally threw a low-to-mid-80s changeup while in high school, but a rarely used the pitch at Arkansas. While Wiggins he did have a great deal of success blowing batters away with his fastball and getting them to chase his breaking ball, he has to work on his command of both.
His fastball comfortably sat in the mid-to-high-90s, topping out at 102 MPH just prior to injuring his elbow in April 2025. The pitch was more than just pure heat, as it generally averaged around 2,500 RPM of spin, well-above-average for a four-seam fastball, giving the pitch excellent rising action. Wiggins participated in the 2026 MLB Draft Combine, where he threw 15 pitches from the mound, and while obviously not throwing full effort, the pitch topped out at 97.4 MPH, the ninth highest velocity reading recorded on Day 2 of the combine, sitting in the mid-90s.

Perhaps general managers took one of the most cynical phrases of scouting — “There’s no such thing as a pitching prospect” — a little too literally. This draft made history when 15 of the first 16 players selected were hitters. The San Francisco Giants the only ones zagging by taking UC Santa Barbara right-hander Jackson Flora fourth overall. After that, a pitcher didn’t get selected until the Texas Rangers took Gio Rojas, the lefty from Florida baseball factory Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, with the 16th pick.
What gives? Well, many of the anticipated top college arms had concerns. Cameron Flukey missed time with a rib fracture this year, leaving him available to the Detroit Tigers at No. 22. Logan Reddenmann and Cole Carlon each suffered velocity dips late in the year, leaving them available to the Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays, respectively, at picks 38 and 39. And a bevy of SEC pitchers — from Florida’s Liam Peterson (19th, Guardians) to Arkansas’ Hunter Dietz (35th, Yankees) and Carson Wiggins (27th, Mets) had command or health concerns that suppressed their value.

Despite his lack of OC experience, Wiggins had served as Klein's co-offensive coordinator the last two seasons.
After throwing for 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, Marcel Reed has worked hard this offseason to avoid matching his 12 interceptions, which were tied for second most in the SEC, while his his wide receiver rotation now includes Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton, while star junior Mario Craver leads what is nationally consider and elite rotation after fellow star KC Concecpion, who led the Aggies in receiving last season, was selected 24th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

A: In terms of overall talent, Philadelphia would trump the field you mention, with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, V.J. Edgecombe and Dean Wade. The Cavaliers certainly would be close with Donovan Michell, James Harden, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and, say, Jaylon Tyson or Max Strus. But when it comes to fit, the best role that suits LeBron James' game at age 41 would be the Heat, where he could play as unquestioned ballhandler and playmaker, while being able to avoid overtaxing defensive ******* ignments, with teammates such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell in place to handle such dirty work. Now, if you're asking where he might have the best chance to win, that would be with the 76ers if Joel Embiid can stay healthy in the playoffs. But that's a big "if."

A: While the outside concern of a LeBron James "Last Dance" is appreciated, the NBA, and pro sports in general, are a world of potential distractions, between the type of documentary you mention and the non-stop influence of social media. But teams also are built better than ever to handle such supposed distractions. NBA teams have staffer after staffer after staffer ******* ignment to deal with such elements. You don't avoid greatness over concerns of distractions.

The Baltimore Ravens do not lack star power on defense.
Trey Hendrickson gives Baltimore a premier edge rusher. Roquan Smith remains the centerpiece at inside linebacker. Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks could form one of the NFL's most versatile safety duos, while Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, and Chidobe Awuzie give the secondary established names at cornerback. Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones, Calais Campbell, and Broderick Washington headline a defensive front with power, experience, and proven production.
Training camp, however, is rarely defined only by the stars. Baltimore's championship hopes could also depend on the players fighting for rotational roles, special teams spots, and final roster positions. Those names will not receive the same daily attention, but they could shape the depth chart once pads come on.
Here are under-the-radar defensive players to watch when Ravens training camp opens.
Peebles is one of the more intriguing defensive linemen on the roster because his path is tied to Baltimore's depth up front. The Ravens have high-end talent on the defensive line, but Anthony Weaver's group will need more than four trusted players to survive a full season. Peebles has an opportunity to show he can provide interior quickness, disruptiveness, and energy behind the established rotation. If he flashes during one-on-one periods and holds up against the run in team drills, he could force the Ravens to think hard about keeping another young defensive lineman.

Now that the calendar has flipped to the NBA's moratorium period, we're seeing offseason moves become official. It's a brand-new league year that started on July 6. The Oklahoma City Thunder joined in on the festivities when a couple of long-known departures finally happened.
The Thunder officially announced two trades that happened at the start of the offseason. Both were made to cut costs and lessen their tax penalties. They sent Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks for two future second-round picks. The same happened to Isaiah Joe as he went to the Detroit Pistons.
Anytime you've got to say goodbye to a couple of guys from an NBA championship team, it's always going to be teary. The Thunder are filled with some of their best developmental success stories in this era. Wiggins and Joe were two of them.
The Thunder added Wiggins with the No. 55 pick of the 2021 NBA draft. He spent five seasons in OKC and carved out a rotation role. And then Joe was added off waivers from the Philadelphia 76ers. He enjoyed four seasons in OKC and turned into one of the best outside shooters among reserves.
Now, Wiggins and Joe join Eastern Conference contenders. They should help the Hawks and Pistons, respectively. Meanwhile, the Thunder were dealt their first taste of the NBA's stricter cap-space rules. After enjoying spotless roster continuity over the last few years, the complementary pieces are going through a recast.
