Wednesday’s Senate confirmation hearing wasn’t the first time much of the American public met Dr. Nicole Saphier and heard her perspective; President Donald Trump’s nominee for US surgeon general is a health and wellness influencer who has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers through her podcast and social media platforms.
In some ways, the surgeon general position – often referred to as the nation’s doctor – is the original health influencer, tasked with translating science into terms that are easy to understand and guiding the public on ways to improve their health.
“For a decade, I have specialized in translating complex, fast-evolving medical information on various media platforms into content that millions of Americans can understand and use, including during the uncertainty of the global pandemic,” Saphier, a radiologist and Fox News contributor, said in Wednesday’s hearing.
“I realized then how badly this country needs public health communication that is straightforward and grounded in the best evidence available,” she said. “My years of communicating directly with the public have prepared me to explain complex topics in a way that they can understand.”
But experts say that social media has changed how people receive health information, with increasingly blurred lines as to who is considered to have authority and expertise – and that bringing an influencer into the role of surgeon general presents both opportunities and challenges.

Nicole Barnes is asking a judge to enter a default judgment after claiming the rapper failed to respond to the case, according to new court documents obtained by TMZ. Barnes sued ****** yy Red in March 2025 over allegations that the rapper posted her home address online and encouraged followers to attack her.
Barnes says ordinary efforts to serve the lawsuit were unsuccessful and that she later served ****** yy Red through publication in a newspaper. She now argues that the lack of a response entitles her to a default judgment for $5 million.
Sexyy Red is disputing the underlying case. Her attorney Jason Lampert told TMZ that the claims are "baseless and completely without merit" and said the rapper categorically denies the allegations and intends to defend herself. The judge has not yet ruled on Barnes' request.

Chanel shoppers are known to be a discerning bunch, but artist Tom Sachs has created an unauthorized replica of the luxury house's sought-after Paris boutique in lower Manhattan.
Located in Sachs' studio at 245 Centre Street, the phony Chanel store has a sign with 31 Rue Cambon on its front door, and a black Chanel-esque ensemble in one street-front window and a red one in the other. During a pass-by Monday night, the studio's security grates were down and a sign on the front door read, "NOTICE BY ENTERING YOU ARE TO BE RECORDED."
Media requests to Sachs were unreturned.
Although Sachs' outpost has a sign with what looks like a handwritten version of Chanel's proprietary interlocked "CC" monogram, the designer label has not been involved in the project in any way. A Chanel spokesperson said Thursday, "Chanel is not involved in this project, and we did not participate in its conception or development. This is not part of the cultural [programs] that Chanel supports around the world and has no affiliation with Chanel."
Scheduled to open Friday and to run through Oct. 10, Sachs' store will have highly limited access — with hours set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Well, there is something about first love. You don't forget it so easily, especially when the story begins with a suspenseful, romance-novel twist. That was certainly the case for social media star Alix Earle and New York Giants wide receiver Braxton Berrios. Earle originally sparked curiosity back in 2023 when she casually introduced him to her followers as the mysterious "NFL man" she was making sushi with. After nearly three years together, the fan-favorite couple officially called it quits last December.
As Earle decided to move on from that chapter of her life, she rented a big truck to move out of her ex-boyfriend's house two months after the breakup. With her best friend Sally in the passenger seat and Earle behind the wheel, the content creator discussed what went wrong between the couple.
"There's a ton of pressure that comes from, like, having a public relationship and sharing so much and people loving our relationship. But we were both busy in our careers and doing long distance at the time. We weren't talking as much. We were barely communicating. There was a lack of intimacy towards the end of the relationship, and it started to just, like, dwindle away a little bit,"Earle said on the first episode of reality series Earle Meets World, released on Friday on Netflix.

A friend of Berrios approached Earle to tell her to talk to Berrios, so Earle walked up to Berrios, shoved her hand in his face, and asked, "You wanted to meet me?" The development follows an internal investigation prompted by Hamby's public disclosure of the message on social media, Yahoo! Sports reported.
The controversy began in late August when Hamby shared a screenshot of a text message she said had been sent to her personal phone number. According to reports, the message included racist language and offensive imagery. Hamby posted the sender's phone number on X and asked followers whether anyone recognized it, prompting widespread attention online.
Social media users subsequently identified the individual believed to have sent the message and connected the person to Acclaro Medical. After learning of the allegations, the company announced that the employee had been suspended while an investigation was conducted. Days later, Acclaro confirmed the individual was no longer employed by the company.
