One of the longest-tenured members of the Houston Astros leadership will be taking his talents to the East Coast to try out a new professional sport.
On Monday afternoon, the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins announced the appointment of Marcel Braithwaite as the team's new President of Business Operations.
Braithwaite has been promoted to the new role after 14 years with the Houston Astros. He notably served as the Senior Vice President of Business Operations and was one of the initial hires under the Jim Crane-led baseball organization.
"It's an honor to join the Penguins at such an exciting time under new ownership," said Braithwaite. "I am grateful to the Astros and look forward to serving the employees, fans and city of Pittsburgh by bringing a winning culture to this franchise alongside Geoff, Kyle and the rest of this talented Front Office."

The Kentucky Wildcats seemed very likely to cover the spread as they took a 17-13 lead into the break against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 2 action. The second half didn't bode well for the Cats, or those who put a few bucks on them to cover the double-digit spread. Kentucky was outscored 18-0 in the third quarter and then 14-0 in the fourth quarter. The final score was 45-17 Alabama.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Marty Whims II got to experience the joy and frustration of being the offensive coordinator for a Football Bowl Subdivision team on Saturday.
Unfortunately, it lasted for only four plays.
Akron was moving the ball on its first possession against Robert Morris when wide receiver Marcel Williams fumbled at the Colonials' 37-yard line. David Johnson recovered the ball after Tasheen Howard and Jake Lopinto forced the fumble.
"We moved the ball, got some first downs. I thought we were going to get a touchdown if we didn't fumble," Whims said shortly after his OC stint ended.
Whims got to call plays as part of Akron's "Offensive Coordinator of the Game" for its home opener. The 46-year-old Whims — a longtime season-ticket holder — graduated from Akron and is the chief financial officer for Stark Enterprises.

After drawing 0-0 with Ecuador in their Conmebol U-15 Evolution League opener, the Women's National Team looked for a faster game and sharper passing, ending their second match of the continental tournament with a 4-2 win over Colombia. Colombia's first shot on goal came after 25 seconds, but Brazil, focused on regaining possession and controlling the ball, surged down the right through Nicoly, who crossed for Marcela Bontorim to head home and score the Canarinho's first goal in less than two minutes.
Brazil's number 13 found the net again in the 33rd minute after taking advantage of a lapse in the Colombian marking and receiving a pass alone inside the box on the left, from a free kick taken from midfield.

"If government benefits, on the one hand, are well targeted, they can have a positive social impact," said Otaviano Canuto, a former World Bank vice president.

After an always arduous offseason, Texas A&M football is officially just one day away now, as the Aggies gear up to face Missouri State at 6 p.m. on Saturday night at Kyle Field. And no, the Bears not striking fear into the hearts of many Aggie fans. They are in just their second season as an FBS program, they're playing their first game under a new coach, they're 128th nationally in returning production, they have never beaten a P4 opponent, and the Aggies are favored by 40.5 points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
By any measure, this is not a game Texas A&M stands to lose. The result is written before the game has even begun. Based on that, it would be easy to write this game off as not all that important, and look ahead to what lies head on the calendar. But on that point, you would be wrong. Let me count the way.
There are still things to be gleaned. Even against inferior teams, strengths and weaknesses can become apparent. Is Marcel Reed's passing crisp? Did the receivers look dynamic? Was the defensive line stuffing the run and creating consistent pressure? Did we win the turnover battle? Albeit they've conceded five goals from their opening two Premier League matches, Xabi Alonso seems to have Chelsea back on track after a dodgy 2025/26 campaign as the Blues have opened their season with three wins on the bounce. They beat Fulham 3-2 for their Premier League opener, topped Luton Town 2-0 in the Carabao Cup, and most recently beat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-3 in the league. While the former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid manager will certainly be hoping for more solidity in his defense, three straight wins is not a bad start to life in the English top flight at all.
