We are just a handful of days from the start of the season for Kentucky Volleyball.
After going undefeated in Southeastern Conference play, winning the SEC Tournament and finishing as the NCAA Tournament Runner-Up last December, the Wildcats are primed for another big year.
Kentucky sits at No. 3 in the AVCA Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll and have been picked to win the SEC for a 10th consecutive time.
Head coach Craig Skinner was on-air with Larry Vaught — along with Jack Pilgrim — yesterday and was asked an interesting question that was followed by an even more interesting answer.
Skinner was asked if there was a way to get last year's star outside hitter and 2025 SEC Player of the Year Eva Hudson back for a fifth season due to new court rulings regarding 5th year eligibility.

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Taryn Brasher and Kristen Cruz arrived at the Manhattan Beach Open with an opportunity to make history. By Sunday afternoon, they had left little doubt that they were going to do it.
Brasher and Cruz captured their third consecutive AVP Manhattan Beach Open championship Sunday, defeating Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft 21-18, 21-16 in the women's final at the Manhattan Beach Pier to complete a dominant weekend at one of beach volleyball's most prestigious events.
The victory made Brasher and Cruz the first women's team to win three straight Manhattan Beach Open ***** les since beach volleyball legends Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings won four consecutive championships from 2005 through 2008.
For Brasher and Cruz, who won the tournament in 2024 and 2025 and entered this year's event as the No. 1 seed, Sunday's championship further cemented their place among the sport's elite. The former LSU teammates represented the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics before completing an undefeated AVP League season in 2025 and later reaching the No. 1 world ranking.
They looked every bit like the team to beat throughout the weekend.

Aug. 16—Gleason Garske walked into Lilac Lanes, put on his bowling shoes and threw a couple warmups.
Moments later, Garske had thrown eight strikes in a row, threatening another perfect 300 game.
But he left the 7 pin standing on his ninth toss, ultimately settling for a 278. His 22nd 300 will have to wait.
The 12-year-old Garske is on an upward trajectory in the sport, and he's coming off his biggest feat to date. He won the U12 Junior Gold national championship in mid-July in Minneapolis.
Garske dominated the field at the national tournament, earning the top seed by advancing to the stepladder finals undefeated. He remained unbeaten going into the final match, meaning he had to be beaten twice to be surpassed.

Finally, Movsar Evloev has gotten his long-awaited shot at the UFC featherweight ******* le.
The undefeated Russian fighter is set to challenge champion Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 333 – which is set to go down on Oct. 24 in Abu Dhabi. MMA Junkie confirmed the news with multiple sources following a report from Вестник ММА, and the UFC made it official during Saturday's UFC 330 broadcast.
This bout marks the second ******* le defense of Volkanovski's (28-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC) second reign as UFC featherweight champion. Volkanovski initially held the belt from 2019 to 2023, becoming one of the greatest featherweights of all time. He lost the belt by KO to Ilia Topuria in 2024, and then recovered it when Topuria moved up to lightweight in a vacant ******* le fight against Diego Lopes in April 2025. Volkanovski went on to defend the belt this past February in a rematch against Lopes.
Evloev (20-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC) has been pursuing the UFC ******* le for well over seven years. Despite being considered by many the No. 1 contender in the featherweight division for a couple of years now, Evloev has yet to get a crack at the ******* le. He's gone 20-0 in his professional MMA career, with half of those wins being under the UFC banner. In his last outing back in March, Evloev defeated Lerone Murphy in a majrity decision.

Donte Johnson stayed undefeated at UFC 330 and has his sights set on not one, not two, but three UFC ******* les.
That kind of hyperbole might seem unwise at this early stage of Johnson's career, but he was understandably on a high after dropping Eric McConico with an explosive left hand that put McConico down for the count in a little over 90 seconds.
Watch Johnson's big knockout below.
Johnson entered Saturday's contest as a sizable favorite and he didn't disappoint, working through dangerous exchanges with McConico to eventually land a devastating punch that pierced right through McConico's defenses. McConico hit the mat hard and Johnson followed up with another heavy left on the ground that left no doubt the fight was over.
The official time of the stoppage was 1:38 into Round 1.

It is Day 29 of our 100-day countdown to kickoff. We are looking back at the 100 most iconic games in Dallas Cowboys history. The countdown will leads us right up to the opening game of 2026. Our look back doesn't depend on just one criteria for our rankings. We take into consideration things like how big the game was for the organization, how memorable the game was, games that had unusual events take place, games that are a part of NFL lore, Cowboys firsts, and games where the Cowboys just plain dominated. Variety is the spice of life and we have all different kind of Cowboys games to review. At the bottom, we'll link each day of the countdown so you can go back and check out any you missed.
We got a big one for you on Day 29 of our 100-day countdown to kickoff, when we revisit one of the most remarkable comeback wins in Cowboys history. It was a game that should have ended in defeat. Tony Romo threw five interceptions, lost a fumble and watched the Bills return two interceptions for touchdowns. Yet with just 20 seconds remaining, Dallas somehow completed an unforgettable rally.
The Cowboys, who had started the game undefeated, appeared to be on track to become Super Bowl contenders. However, Buffalo had other plans. George Wilson returned Romo's first interception for a touchdown, and later Chris Kelsay scored another touchdown on a 103-yard interception return after Romo targeted Terrell Owens in the end zone. A Rian Lindell field goal added to the Bills' lead, making it 17-7. Despite this, Jason Witten caught a late touchdown to cut the deficit to 17-10 at halftime.
Dallas struggled to build momentum after the break. Nick Folk connected from 47 and 29 yards, but every time the Cowboys appeared to be climbing back into the game, Buffalo answered. Terrence McGee returned the ensuing kickoff 103 yards for a touchdown following Folk's second field goal, restoring an 11-point Bills advantage and leaving Dallas trailing 24-13 heading into the fourth quarter.
Despite the turnovers, Romo never stopped attacking. Folk added another field goal early in the final quarter to make it 24-16 before the Cowboys' defense came alive. Dallas forced consecutive punts and gave the offense one final opportunity with less than two minutes remaining.

LAWRENCE — Marian Washington is a Kansas women's basketball icon.
The Jayhawks' all-time winningest head coach led that KU program for 31 seasons from 1973 to 2004. She enjoyed 11 NCAA tournament appearances, many conference ***** les and more. She was also an ***** et to the athletic department in other ways, too.
And on Saturday, Aug. 15 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Washington will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for her role with the 1996 women's national team for USA Basketball. Washington was an ***** istant coach for Stanford's Tara VanDerveer for the Olympics that year. According to a release from Kansas athletics, Washington became "the first female African American coach on a USA Olympic Basketball coaching staff."
RELATED: 5 insights into Kansas women's basketball with coach Brandon Schneider
The KU release added: "The 1996 USA Basketball Women's National Team captured the gold medal at the Atlanta Games, finishing with an undefeated 8-0 record and an average margin of victory of more than 30 points. Coached by VanDerveer, the team featured a roster that included future Hall of Famers Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Dawn Staley, Teresa Edwards, Rebecca Lobo, and Katrina McClain. Dana White says longevity cost Khabib Nurmagomedov in the GOAT discussion.
Nurmagomedov (29-0) retired in the midst of his prime after three dominant UFC lightweight **** le defenses over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and current champion Justin Gaethje. He hung his gloves up as a promise to his mother after his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, passed away.
In Daniel Cormier's eyes, Nurmagomedov is the GOAT after retiring with an undefeated record and zero involvement with performance-enhancing drugs. As Nurmagomedov's protege Islam Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) enters his first welterweight **** le defense against Ian Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 330 main event (Paramount+) at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, his name is now being thrown around in the GOAT conversation.
"He's obviously accomplished more than Khabib because he fought longer," White told TMZ Sports of Makhachev. "Who knows what Khabib could have accomplished if he had stayed in the game. And realistically, if Khabib had done what everybody pretty much knows Khabib could have done, he definitely would be the GOAT."
As for Makhachev, White already said he's on his way to becoming the greatest of all time. With a win, Makhachev can break the record for most consecutive wins in UFC history, surpassing Anderson Silva's mark of 16. However, the UFC CEO said one thing is hurting Makhachev's case from being No.1.

The remembrance of good times rolled through Seville Quarter's Heritage Hall as Jordan Travis captivated a sold out gathering of Florida State Seminoles' supporters.
So much has changed, of course.
Both with FSU football fortunes and in Travis' life since the former star quarterback sustained a career-devastating leg injury on November 18, 2023, as the Seminoles barreled toward an undefeated regular season.
"Obviously, I thought the NFL was my dream and my future and things changed really quickly," said Travis, prior to joining the stage on Thursday Aug. 13 at the annual Greater Pensacola Seminole Club Kickoff Party, alongside Jeff Culhane, now in his fifth year as voice of the Seminoles, and Gene Deckerhoff the retired broadcasting legend, who held that role for 43 years.
Together, they shared stories, told jokes, answered questions and brought hope in a unique setting that was different than so many preseason booster gatherings.

Dana White's ***** istant could earn a UFC contract in a few weeks.
Sal Everett, an undefeated fighter and UFC employee who, in recent years, has served as a runner for White, will compete on Dana White's Contender Series. The show, which has been labeled a "UFC job interview" for fighters, brings in competitors with all sorts of interesting stories. However, a UFC employee fighting for a UFC contract is something completely unprecedented – and White can't wait to see what happens.
"Yeah, I'm excited," White told MMA Junkie and other reporters during a media scrum at the Meta APEX. "He is a great kid, and everybody in this company loves him. I feel bad for whoever he's fighting. He's gonna feel like he's coming into enemy territory, when that is not the case.
"These are some of those – you know, it's like Callum Walsh. I was working with Callum early on in his career, and I feel like anybody that comes into Zuffa Boxing feels like they're the odd man out, which is not the case. You come in here and, if Sal's good enough, then he's gonna make it, and he's gonna get a contract. If he's not, then he's gotta figure out what he's gonna do next."
Everett (4-0) will face Ozzy Martin on Oct. 6, which will be the penultimate week of the upcoming season of DWCS. White often speaks about how he enters each week of the show without knowing anything about the fighters he's about to watch compete for a UFC contract, but that will be far from the norm when Everett steps into the cage against another undefeated fighter in Martin (4-0).

Christian Mbilli's Halloween showdown with Canelo Alvarez won't be that month's only October ***** le defense, as Julius Julianis reports that IBF super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias will meet no. 5 Oliver Zaren on October 8th in the former's eternal stomping grounds of Quebec.
Zaren (19-0-1, 8 KO), the other undefeated mid-20s Danish super middleweight, has spent the bulk of his career munching on limited foes in his home country. His one journey abroad came in June, when he traveled to Spain to battle Jose Luis Navarro Jr for the European ***** le, built up an early lead on the scorecards, then had to settle for a no contest because they were boxing outside and a thunderstorm hit.
A losing record against atmospheric phenomena bodes ill for his chances against a Cuban "Tornado." Iglesias (15-0, 14 KO) has looked like a potential vanguard of the post-Canelo era, demolishing all comers and only rarely deigning to lose a round. His last two efforts have seen him run over Vladimir Shishkin and Pavel Silyagin, the latter victory earning Iglesias his belt.
Not the most stirring matchup, but Zaren is reasonably high up in the rankings, Iglesias doesn't have a mandatory challenger yet, and the other champions aren't going to touch him with a 10-foot pole, so I suppose we've got to take what we can get.

Miami men's basketball coach Travis Steele announced Sunday that Woolfolk will return for the 2026-27 season, giving the RedHawks an experienced frontcourt piece from last season's historic team.
Woolfolk, an honorable mention All-Mid-American Conference selection last season, will use his fifth season of eligibility while continuing work toward his degree.

Quillan Salkilld has officially arrived as a serious contender at lightweight following his victory over Mateusz Gamrot in the UFC Vegas 120 main event.
Undefeated thus far in his UFC career, Salkilld was supposed to face his toughest test to date on Saturday but outside of a leg lock attempt from Gamrot early in the opening round, the Australian had his way with the veteran top-10 fighter.
After battering Gamrot on the feet, Salkilld decided to show off his ground game after scoring a perfectly timed takedown and then eventually transitioning to take the back. That's where Salkilld locked up the rear-naked choke with Gamrot tapping out to end the fight at 4:25 in the opening round.
That extended Salkilld's overall win streak to 13 in a row including six straight wins in the UFC.
"That feels f*cking good," Salkilld said after the win. "I just proved I'm the real f*cking deal. That's just how I fight. I want to take it to you where you think you're safe. I want to use all the weapons I have available in the **** nal. I believe I can get it done with the first minute or the last minute."

Ty Miller cemented himself as a true prospect to watch earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) at UFC Vegas 120 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside the revamped Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as "Thriller" steamrolled fellow welterweight Billy Ray Goff with a blistering third-round TKO (punches).
This was all Miller from the opening bell. He utilized his long reach to establish a range Goff couldn't keep up with. This basically made him target practice for Miller, who had no trouble finding his shots in bunches. Miller hurt Goff with a stiff jab, shots to the body, head kicks, and upper cuts. It was a striking clinic from the undefeated prospect.
It appeared Goff suffered an orbital injury to his right eye along the way, but his corner still allowed him off the stool for the third round. It's unfortunate they did because Miller slammed a perfect right hand that instantly shut Goff down and finally forced the referee to stop the fight.
While some may debate the decision Goff's corner made this fight was all about Miller's performance. He was downright dominant and should be a real name to watch in the welterweight division heading into next year.
Check out his knockout finish below:

Once in a while, a particular race invokes memories of a great horse. For me, the Grade 3 Best Pal, to be contested at Del Mar today, reminds me of Nyquist.
Nyquist, now a terrific sire and well into his second career, was an unbelievable 2-year-old: after breaking his maiden on first asking at Santa Anita in June of 2015, he put together his best race by figures in the Best Pal. He went on to win a pair of races in September - both of them Grade 1s - before winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He kept his undefeated streak into the 2016 Kentucky Derby, and after a win in Louisville, many wondered if we could get back-to-back Triple Crown winners.
"We all booked New York as soon as he crossed the line in the Derby," John Cherwa, my former editor at the L.A. Times, told me.
Alas, that year's Derby runner-up, Exagerrator, got the best of Nyquist in the Preakness. Nyquist never won again, but retired with Grade 1 wins at 5 tracks in 4 states. Just a spectacular 11 months of racing, and one that I'll always appreciate.
Today's Best Pal features a trio of terrific runners, and I'm hopeful we'll meet a Breeders' Cup contender. Let's meet the field, and put together our weekly wager. If you're wagering on Del Mar, check out AmWager! They have a $50 deposit match for new customers, and a player-friendly platform.

Alexander Volkanovski's next ***** le defense could be one of the worst-kept secrets in MMA.
The UFC featherweight champion awaits the second defense of his second ***** le reign following a second decision win over Diego Lopes at UFC 325 this past February. Undefeated contender Movsar Evloev is expected to get the call and Volkanovski is already preparing to face the Russian grappling specialist.
"It's not locked in, but it's pretty obvious it's probably going to be Movsar," Volkanovski said in a vlog. "So get all that wrestling in nice and early."
Injuries and a lack of signature finishes have hindered Evloev's No. 1 contender case, despite a spotless 20-0 record. He hasn't finished any of his 10 UFC opponents, but holds notable wins over Lerone Murphy, Aljamain Sterling, and Lopes, the latter of whom has received two ***** le fight opportunities.
Volkanovski has stated on multiple occasions he expects to fight Evloev and with numbered UFC events in October, November, and December still needing headlining bouts, the matchmakers have several opportunities to slot that championship matchup in before the end of the year.

The rivalry between Purdue and Indiana has lost some steam in recent years, but Purdue Boilermakers athletic director Tommy McClellan stoked the fire in his initial press conference. He took a shot at Indiana football, saying, "We are here to win championships. If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana."
It's a confusing jab to make at this point, since the Indiana Hoosiers are coming off a 2025 season where they went undefeated national champions. They put up the second-highest point differential (+479) for any team in college football history, behind the 2013 Florida State Seminoles, and they won their three College Football Playoff games by an average of 25 points per game.
Purdue, on the other hand, is coming off a 2025 season where they had a -157 point differential, ranking No. 4 for worst point differential among Power 4 opponents. The Boilermakers went 2-10, including 0-9 in the Big Ten. They have yet to make a bowl game since 2022, and they haven't won a national championship since 1931 (they didn't claim it).
The Purdue vs. Indiana rivalry, also known as the "Old Oaken Bucket" rivalry, has been lopsided as of late. Although Purdue has the series lead, with a 77-44-6 record all-time, they've lost the last two games 66-0 (2024) and 56-3 (2025). McClellan and the Boilermakers will get to walk the walk against Indiana on Nov. 28, 2026.

While some Notre Dame football fans most likely don't care much for Brian Kelly, the former head coach has now entered the broadcasting world, as he'll call Mountain West games on CBS this fall.
It's clearly not the same level when he was on the sidelines, but he's still a college football voice with plenty of opinions. On Wednesday, CBS Sports released a short clip of Kelly predicting how Notre Dame's regular season would go, and how he sees it going might surprise you.
Perfection. Kelly has the Irish going undefeated, a clean 12-0 and most likely a top seed in the College Football Playoff. He does believe that more than a few of the games won't be easy for Notre Dame, but at the end of the day, they will come out on top.
Kelly has talked about how he doesn't have any ill will towards the program, and this is a start to mending a relationship that wasn't great at times. Sure, he won plenty of games in South Bend, but he rubbed people the wrong way more than a few times.
It will be interesting to hear him call games this fall, as we will all be interested to hear how he breaks down plays. It hurts to say this, but I hope that Kelly is right about his prediction for Notre Dame's 2026 regular season.

This past week, I asked the following question:
Which side of the ball, offense or defense, will be the unit more likely to carry or be the overall strength of the 2026-2027 version of the Miami Dolphins, and why?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers-
PA phinphan seems wildly over-optimistic, which I always appreciate even when unrealistic.
I am hoping the offense and defense take turns carrying the team all the way to the playoffs and beyond. 20- 0 record. Undefeated times two.

Former University of Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner has been named to the Sporting News college football all-decade team for the 2020s.
A key piece of the Bearcats' undefeated regular season and run to the 2021 College Football Playoff, Gardner was named a consensus first-team All-American after allowing just 13 catches for 117 yards. He recorded 35 tackles, three sacks, three interceptions and four pass breakups.
Gardner was drafted by the New York Jets with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year and became the first cornerback since the 1970 merger to be named to the AP All-Pro first team in each of his first two seasons.
He currently plays for the Indianapolis Colts, who open the season on Sept. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts also host the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 27.
Also at cornerback on the all-decade team is former Alabama star Patrick Surtain II, who currently plays for the Denver Broncos.

With the 2026 college football season just weeks away, it's time to start counting down our top 25 teams. After revealing teams Nos. 13-25, we'll go deeper on who we think are the 12 best teams ahead of Week Zero on Aug. 29.
2025 record: 3-9
James Franklin's first-year track record says the Hokies are at least getting to a bowl. He led Vanderbilt to just its second bowl game in nearly 30 years in his first season with the Commodores in 2011 and it's easy to envision a similar bounce back for the Hokies here. Former Penn State quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer will be Virginia Tech's starter after his offseason transfer and the passing game should be better by default. Did you know it's been five seasons since Virginia Tech quarterbacks completed more than 60% of their passes?
The defense retains four of its top six tacklers and there's not much of a scheme turnover with former head coach Brent Pry staying on as the coordinator. The schedule is manageable too. The Hokies should go undefeated in September before a home game against Pitt and a cross-country trip to Cal.

TommyMcMillen claims AlexanderVolkanovski has no path to victory against him.

McMillen is currently one of the most hyped featherweight prospectson the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster. The undefeated28-year-old is high in confidence, as reflected in his recentcomments about the reigning champion in his division.
McMillen is open to fighting Volkanovski next for the right amountof money. "Gun" doesn't think the 37-year-old UFC featherweightchampion can beat him and the same goes for any other145-pounder.

"I'll take Volk. He's like 42 years old, he's 5'5", what's his pathto victory?" McMillen said on the One Night with Steiny podcast."He's gonna bang with me for five rounds? I've never even seen afourth or fifth round; those are gonna be my best rounds. If theUFC came to me and paid the right amount of money, yes, I'll gostep in there and fight anybody in the top 15, knowing I can win. There's not a man at 145 pounds that I don't look at and be like,'Oh, I know I can beat him.'"
