Daniel Rodriguez didn't get his picture-perfect comeback moment in the UFC Fight Night 283 main event, but he still holds his head high.
After a well-document prison stint in Mexico that kept him out of competition, Rodriguez (20-6 MMA, 10-5 UFC) jumped right into a five-headliner headliner with Uros Medic (14-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) in enemy territory at at Belgrade Arena in Serbia.
It couldn't have played out worse for Rodriguez, because he landed just one significant strike before being knocked out in a mere 30 seconds.
Rodriguez said pre-fight that he felt stepping into the cage in itself was a win after all his struggles, but he ultimately wanted to craft a move-like script by getting his hand raised. It didn't go that way, but he said post-fight that he remains "proud" (via Instagram Stories):
Rodriguez, 39, saw his three-fight winning streak come to an end at UFC Fight Night 283. Now it remains to be seen where he goes from here.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury bought yen on Friday to support the battered ******* anese currency, the Financial Times reported, marking Washington's first yen-buying intervention with Tokyo in more than a decade as it languishes near 40-year lows.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York sold euros for yen on behalf of the Treasury through Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, the FT said, citing people familiar with the matter. The report did not indicate any amounts of yen purchased.
Earlier on Friday, the Treasury informed a number of banks that it might intervene in the yen market and that they should "stand ready for future action," a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Uros Medic put on a statement performance to stop Daniel Rodriguez in just 30 seconds at the UFC's first event in Belgrade, Serbia.
Medic returned to his homeland for the first time in nine years, having moved to the United States to train, and sent a message to the rest of the welterweight division.
Rodriguez, 39, was fighting for the first time since spending eight months in a Mexican jail for possession of marijuana.
Medic, 33, dropped American Rodriguez with a left-right combination before forcing referee Jason Herzog to step in as he finished with kicks and punches on the canvas.
"It has been a really rough couple of weeks since I arrived home," Medic said.

On an evening where the UFC established new records for the most total finishes (12) and first-round finishes (10) on a single event, Serbia's Medic ended the festivities with the finest performance of his UFC career, knocking out Daniel Rodriguez in just 30 seconds to set off a raucous party inside the Belgrade Arena in Belgrade, Serbia.

After a brilliant personal season in Alkmaar, the Irish international scored 31 goals and registered 10 ****** ists in all competitions last term – not to mention 16 goals in 28 Eredivisie games, and 10 goals in 15 Europa Conference League outings.
As per journalist Ben Jacobs, Parrott is being watched by Real Betis in La Liga and Como in Serie A. PSV are also said to have inquired about Parrott, but the amount AZ is demanding appears to be higher than the Philips Stadion residents will pay.
Jacobs has also mentioned Ajax, but Tolu Arokodare's signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers has taken them out of the running. The 24-year-old Parrott is under contract in Alkmaar until 2029, and AZ hopes to receive a large fee.

Ram, Jeep, and Fiat parent company Stellantis (STLA) reported solid first-half results on Thursday morning, but only reaffirmed its prior guidance. Investors clearly wanted more from CEO Antonio Filosa's turnaround plan.
For the half, Stellantis reported revenue of 81.61 billion euros ($93.20 billion) vs. 80.71 billion euros per Bloomberg consensus, up 10% compared to last year. Stellantis posted adjusted earnings per share of 0.32 euros ($0.37) vs 0.35 euros expected, and adjusted operating income of 1.733 billion euros ($1.98 billion), more than triple the 540 million euros ($614 million) posted a year ago.
Stellantis confirmed its prior 2026 guidance, projecting net revenues to rise in the mid-single digits in 2026, with low-single-digit adjusted operating income margin. The company aims to return to positive industrial free cash flow by 2027.
The company said its net tariff headwind for the year is estimated at 1.0 billion to 1.2 billion euros ($1.14 billion-$1.37 billion), but Stellantis received an IEEPA refund of 400 million euros ($456.3 million) in the first half of the year.
Stellantis shares fell over 4% in premarket trade.

MILAN — The Prada Group reported robust growth in the first half of 2026, boosted by a solid performance in the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

Generally speaking, when a fighter says they're in the best shape of their lives before a fight, there's an urge to take a big swig of the old giggle water, because there's scarcely been a fighter in world history who wasn't.
Yet when Daniel Rodriguez says he notices he's been working harder than usual, almost as an outside observer to himself with a new lease on reason, you tend to listen. That's because until April, Rodriguez was in a Tijuana jail cell, where he'd spent the last eight months on a marijuana possession rap, far longer than a borderline bogus charge should warrant. He was able to hit some pads and do some "roadwork" in the yard, and even had a heavy bag at his disposal, but there was nary a nutritionist on site, nor were his coaches there to guide him, or a sauna, a ring, or really any of the creature comforts of a training facility.
Since April he's been working like a madman splitting time in Las Vegas and Los Angeles to catch his body up to the task of fighting Uros Medic this Saturday at UFC Belgrade in Serbia, yet it's doubtful Rodriguez is in the best physical shape of his life at 39.
But so what? He has never felt freer than he is right now in Belgrade, walking straight into the wheelhouse of the country's free-swinging ****** assin.
"You know what?" Rodriguez says, "I think I've handled it pretty well, man. I've handled this like a true professional. From the condition that I was in when I was released to where I'm at now and all the preparation and the whole fight camp and everything in between from then till now, the ups and downs, it's been a roller-coaster.

Since April he's been working like a madman splitting time in Las Vegas and Los Angeles to catch his body up to the task of fighting Uros Medic this Saturday at UFC Belgrade in Serbia, yet it's doubtful Rodriguez is in the best physical shape of his life at 39.
But so what? He has never felt freer than he is right now in Belgrade, walking straight into the wheelhouse of the country's free-swinging ****** assin.
"You know what?" Rodriguez says, "I think I've handled it pretty well, man. I've handled this like a true professional. From the condition that I was in when I was released to where I'm at now and all the preparation and the whole fight camp and everything in between from then till now, the ups and downs, it's been a roller-coaster.

Both men bring three-fight winning streaks into the bout, where Medic is a sizeable betting favorite. "The Doctor" has a home-field advantage in Serbia and heavy hands that have proven capable of knocking out high-level fighters. Jouban understands why Medic is favored, but his history with Rodriguez, as well as studying his many fights, affords respect to the potential path to victory.
"D-Rod's got this thing, man – I was training with him when he was young, before he got into the UFC," Jouban told MMA Junkie. "I used to bring him in to spar with me, and I just always remember he has this follow-up left hand that buzzes you. You see it in his fights. He'll be losing a fight, he'll get knocked down and people get a little overzealous and go for the finish. He always had a natural ability – he's a southpaw, so a lot of people don't like to throw their power hand because it makes you put yourself more in danger and commit to the punch, whereas a check hook or something is a lot easier to stay away. Daniel has this natural ability to always finish a combination with his left hand, which is his power punch and his best punch, as well. It's natural. I've felt it. It buzzes you. He seems to get guys.
"That's what I'm going to be looking for in this fight with Uros Medic. He's a finisher, he smells blood, and he gets you out of there very quickly. Three-fight win streak, three knockouts for Uros Medic. If he hurts D-Rod, I expect to see this in the first round. I expect to see him hurt D-Rod. D-Rod's kind of got a history of getting hurt, and then hurting you after. What happens in that exchange? Did Uros do the film study? Is he able to control the emotions of not going for that finish that he's so good at? If D-Rod can find that left hand and change the course of the momentum of this matchup. Jose Mourinho — who, according to Rodriguez, was influential in Real Madrid signing Espi — will start working with the Spaniard a day after the signing was announced.
Mourinho reportedly brought the club's attention to needing a striker who can be a huge presence inside the box, and recommended Espi — who he wanted specifically — to the higher-ups. The club then made the signing happen in just a few hours, showing their faith in Mourinho and putting in the effort and investment into making the project work.
Real Madrid signed Espi after selling Gonzalo Garcia to Fulham for 40 million euros on Friday, and now have the tall, physical striker that has been lacking from the squad since the departure of Joselu in 2024.

Eni (E:NYSE) is raising its share buyback program for the year after reporting on Wednesday consensus-beating earnings for the second quarter on the back of higher oil and gas prices and a jump in upstream production.
The Italian energy major booked an adjusted net profit of $2.65 billion (2.33 billion euros) for the second quarter, more than doubled from $1.29 billion (1.13 billion euros) for the same period last year, and higher than a company-provided consensus estimate of $2.4 billion (2.09 billion euros).
Eni attributed the profit jump to higher oil and gas realizations in a "supportive pricing environment," as well as to growth in volumes and cost management.
The exploration and production (E&P) division reported pro forma adjusted EBIT soaring by 42% from the first quarter of 2026 and by 97% from the second quarter of 2025, driven by favorable volume and mix effects, cost discipline, and better oil realizations, Eni said.
Eni's average realized price of liquids jumped by 54% from a year earlier to $96.50 per barrel for the second quarter of 2026.

The transfer of Kerim Alajbegovic to Juventus Turin is on the verge of being completed. According to consistent media reports, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the Italian top club have already agreed on the terms of the sale for the 18-year-old Bosnia international.
