ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) recently warned Kazakhstan that the Central Asian nation's largest oil field, Tengiz, will hit its production peak next year. Worse yet, output from the field will begin to decline. Exxon estimates it will fall nearly 40% by 2035 to around 500,000 barrels per day (bpd). That also has implications for Chevron, as it helped develop the field through its 50% interest in the Tengizchevroil (TCO) partnership.
However, while Tengiz is about to plateau and decline, that's not a crisis for ExxonMobil. Here's why.

The Astros have recalled RHP Kai-Wei Teng from Triple A Sugar Land today after optioning LHP Bryan King to Triple A last night.
Teng, 27, is 5-6 this season with a 4.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP for Houston across 25 games, including 10 starts. In 68.1 IP with the big league club, Teng has 67 K and has allowed 10 HR.
Teng was optioned to Triple-A following a rough start on 6/27 vs. Detroit, and was experiencing arm fatigue. He would later be placed on the IL with a right knee sprain.
Teng had a brief recall at the end of July in which he pitched in two games for the Astros, allowing 2 ER in 4.1 IP and collecting a win. He was optioned back to Triple-A after his appearance 7/24.

Back in the spring, Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham said his biggest concerns were the inexperience at the linebacker position and the depth at cornerback. Well, more than halfway into fall camp, it appears that both problems are in the process of being solved.
On Thursday, Wolverines defensive coordinator Jay Hill said that if there's one position group that's improved the most, it's probably linebacker, and behind that, he's feeling like he's starting to see solid depth develop at cornerback behind the four usual suspects who are starting caliber.
"Well, probably linebacker," Hill said. "There's, like I say, there's really five or six guys that I feel comfortable playing in games. I'd like to see some of those guys just completely cement themselves as the starter, but that's a good problem that we have right now. That and then the battles at that fifth, sixth, seventh corner and safety spots, those guys need to really -- someone needs to step up out of those groups and solidify themselves in those roles, five, six, seven at those, in the DB spots."
So why has the linebacker position managed to improve so greatly? Hill says he just sees steady development in the unit, and feels like they probably have up to six players (likely Nathaniel Staehling, Chase Taylor, Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, Troy Bowles, Max Alford, and Aisea Moa) who are playing at a high level in fall camp.
"I think we're getting better every day," Hill said. "That comes from knowledge of the scheme, the culture, the run of the football, the hitting, the tackling. I just think we're getting better every day. You ask about the linebacker group, I think that group continues to solidify themselves every day. There are six right now that I think we can win with, and it continues to be a battle as to who's in there with the ones and who's in with the twos. But for the most part, I see that group continue to elevate."

Pfaadt lost his rotation job with the D-backs after three starts, was demoted to the bullpen, and was optioned to the Reno on June 3 with a 5.92 ERA.

San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill earned himself an additional $5 million with his 500th plate appearance on Friday.
The 2026 milestone kicked in a clause in Merrill's contract that adds an $1 million to his salary for five years, increasing the total value of his contract from $135 million to a minimum of $140 million.
Merrill signed a nine-year extension with the Padres early in 2025 after just one year in the majors, finishing runner-up in the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year voting, also finishing ninth in MVP voting as a 21-year-old.

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas says he's thinking about changing his mind on retiring, and that it's possible he'll stick around for another year before he plans to enter into a hybrid coaching/front office role.
"I want to help young players," Rojas told USA TOAY Sports' Bob Nightengale, "any way I can. And one day I want to manage. I believe I can do it."
Rojas, 37, played hero for the Dodgers in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series with a game-tying home run in the ninth inning, forcing the game to extras. Los Angeles won it in the 10th inning, the team's second consecutive championship.

Malaysia's Sultan Abdullah and former actress Julia Rais' daughter Princess Ilyana of Malaysia, 29, married British racing driver Christopher Froggatt, 32, over the weekend.
The couple gathered their friends and family in Kuala Lumpur, where the bride walked down the aisle in a heavily embroidered column wedding dress by Malaysian designer Radzuan Radziwill. Clay Holmes' Cubs debut nearly didn't happen.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks were on the verge of making a trade that would've sent Holmes to Phoenix before the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
"Holmes was on his way to the Arizona Diamondbacks until the Mets flagged the medical reports of one of (the Diamondbacks') prospects, and pivoted to the Cubs," Nightengale reported Sunday, Aug. 9.

USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale has called the city a heavy favorite and clear frontrunner as well saying it's in the driver's seat to land a franchise when the league expands. But Monday on KSL Sports Zone's "DJ and PK," he called Salt Lake City a "lock."
"Salt Lake, I think, is a lock. It should be Nashville, but Salt Lake's got the ownership group, Dale Murphy's involved, everything else. I think it's a go for sure in Salt Lake," he said.

We've at last arrived at the MLB Trade Deadline. Once the clock strikes 6 p.m. EST this evening, teams will no longer be able to trade to reshape their rosters; what you have is what you've got the rest of the way. It's the last chance for clubs around the league, and for Brian Cashman and the Yankees, to load up for a playoff push.
Though this deadline season took a while to heat up, we at last saw some marquee names exchanged this weekend.
