The torch has officially been passed. The glorious era of the Allen family's ownership of the Seattle Seahawks has officially come to an end. In the week leading up to the season opener, ownership transferred from the Paul Allen estate to the Khosla family. This was inevitable following the NFL's approval in late August of the record $9.6 billion dollar sale Vinod Khosla put forth.
Now, Vinod and his family are in charge of the Seahawks. Vinod himself carries the ****** le of Chair of the Seahawks. His wife Neeru Khosla is now designated as the Controlling Owner of the Seahawks, and President of their Charitable Foundation. Their son, Neal Khosla, is the Vice Chair of the Seahawks.
But we at Seahawks Wire would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the legacy of Paul and Jody Allen, and what they gave to both the Seahawks franchise and the Pacific Northwest. Under their leadership, they helped transform the Seahawks into a national, championship caliber brand. Paul saved the city from being relocated to the Los Angeles area under the previous ownership of Ken Behring. Part of his purchase agreement included the Washington state legislature to hold a statewide referendum on funding a new stadium, which passed, paving the way for the iconic Lumen Field.
Paul Allen transformed a middling NFL franchise into one of the NFL's more recognizable teams. Seattle went from having only one division ****** le and four playoff appearances to nine division ****** les, three conference championships and the franchise's first Lombardi. As we at Seahawks Wire wrote in an article regarding the sale of the team back in late January of this year:
"His (Paul Allen's) death in 2018 shook the city and the 12's, as he represented the best kind of owner any fan would want for their team."

The third sale of the Seattle Seahawks in the 50-year history of the franchise as a member of the NFL is official. The team announced the NFL-record $9.61 billion sale from the Estate of Paul G. Allen to the Khosla family that league owners approved last week in a unanimous vote officially closed Thursday.
Vinod Khosla, his wife Neeru Khosla and son Neal Khosla are now the controlling owners of the Super Bowl champions.
This the first time a defending Super Bowl champion has been sold within months of winning it all.
The Khoslas become the Seahawks' first owners other than the late Paul Allen or his sister Jody, the chair of his estate, since 1997. That was the year Paul Allen bought the franchise from Ken Behring for $194 million.

The Seattle Seahawks will officially be under new ownership for next Wednesday's season-opener against the New England Patriots.
In a repeat of the Super Bowl from earlier in the year, the Seahawks will be unveiling their champions banner and their new owners.
However, the game at Lumen Field could also provide Jody Allen with one final opportunity to bid farewell to the fans.
The Allen family enjoyed an extremely successful stint in the Pacific Northwest, having guided the Seahawks to two Super Bowl victories.
Although the Khoslas are now officially in place as the new owners, Vinod Khosla has opened the door to Allen making a return just days after the takeover was confirmed.

When Vinod Khosla admitted in his first press conference as the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks that he has been — and continues to be — a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, it was the quote that launched a thousand reactions.
Media outlets and social media accounts had a field day with the comments made Wednesday, including the Seattle Times, New York Post, The Comeback, and Barstool Sports.
"What not to do during your opening press conference as the new Seahawks owner? Reveal you've been a Steelers fan your whole life and still watch all of their games," wrote Barstool in a post on X featuring video of Khosla's comments.
Admittedly, not the best look, even if his comments were overblown. That's probably something best left for the next time the two teams play, and only after Seattle wins.
Still, while Khosla might only be a few days into his tenure as an NFL owner, he's not wasting any time pushing back on the narrative that he's not fully committed to the Seahawks franchise.

The new (soon-to-be) owner of the Seattle Seahawks just got a lesson in how passionate the 12th Man can be about certain topics... especially when it comes to rivalries and historic hatred. Recently, the NFL voted unanimously to approve the sale of the Seahawks from the Paul G. Allen estate to venture capitalize Vinod Khosla and his family for a record-breaking $9.6 billion.
During his initial press conference following the approval meeting, Khosla opened up about his history of being an NFL fan... and although he was honest, he definitely shared too much. Khosla explained he came to America in the 1970's when the Pittsburgh Steelers were the reigning force in the league and admitted he was still a fan of theirs. Not just a fan, but one who still watches all the Steelers games.
Oh boy... as expected, not many 12's were all that jazzed when they heard the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks is still a Steelers fan of all things. The painful memories of Super Bowl XL are still fresh to many older fans, and to them, the Steelers are just as bad as the Rams or 49ers.
But credit where credit is due, Khosla clearly heard the criticism and took to social media to emphasize where his loyalties lie. He even issued an apology.

Billionaire tech investor Vinod Khosla has been named the Seattle Seahawks' new owner behind a massive $9.6 billion sale on August 26th. Yesterday, Khosla, alongside his family, gave his very first press conference; it's fair to say it was an unforgettable introduction to the new owner.
The Seahawks are coming off a triumphant Super Bowl championship last year and look to maintain momentum by introducing their new owner to Seahawks fans. Rather, Khosla gave a perfect example of "what not to do during your opening press conference as the new Seahawks owner," Barstool Sports posted on X.
"I also happened to come to this country in '76 when the Steelers were winning the Super Bowl, so actually I was originally and still am a big Steelers fan. Also, little-known fact, but I still watch all the Steelers games too," Khosla cheerfully said.
Barstool Sports personality Hubbs commented on the matter sarcastically.
"Jack Bauer couldn't have gotten that information out of me if he had a gun pointed at my knee and was threatening my family's safety. Just no need at all to put that out there. Now, is it earth-shattering and detrimental that the Seahawks owner is a big Steelers fan? No, not really. It'd be worse if the Seahawks hadn't won a Super Bowl since losing to Pittsburgh in 2006, but thankfully for them, they have," Hubbs wrote for Barstool Sports.

In a surprising turn of events, new Seattle Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla declared himself to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers during the introductory press conference.
Vinod and Neeru Khosla became the new majority owners of the Seattle Seahawks after the NFL approved their purchase of the team at a $9.612 billion valuation.
The Seahawks have a new owner after almost three decades. Paul Allen purchased the team in 1997, and his sister, Jody managed them following his passing.
Seattle recently enjoyed success, winning Super Bowl LX by comfortably beating the New England Patriots. But as they prepare to enter a new era, fans got a bit of a rude surprise from their new owner.

Devdutt Padikkal marked his return to India's Test setup in style, smashing his maiden Test century during the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The left-hander, who has won two IPL ***** les with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, produced a fluent and ***** ured knock at No. 3 to make a strong case for himself in India's middle order.
Padikkal became only the second Indian left-handed batter in the 21st century to score a Test century from No. 3, after former captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly had scored 136 against Zimbabwe in Delhi in 2002.

Overall, Padikkal is the sixth Indian left-hander to score a Test hundred from the No. 3 position. The list is led by Vinod Kambli with four centuries, followed by Ganguly with three, while Salim Durani, Bapu Nadkarni, Ajit Wadekar, Eknath Solkar, Surinder Amarnath and now Padikkal have one each.
Padikkal's century also ended a prolonged wait for an Indian batter to score a Test hundred from No. 3. The last Indian to achieve the feat was Shubman Gill, who scored a century against Bangladesh in Chennai in September 2024. Since then, India had used seven different batters at No. 3 across 19 Tests, with the position collectively averaging just 27.28 and producing only five scores of 50 or more in 35 innings.

The 25-year-old had also enjoyed a productive 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, averaging 60.33, and carried that confidence into Galle. After reaching his century, Padikkal celebrated with a fist pump and a punch of the air before removing his helmet and raising his bat towards the crowd and his teammates.

India captain Shubman Gill congratulated him in the middle, while head coach Gautam Gambhir applauded from the dressing room. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was also present at the venue and joined in the celebrations.

The San Francisco 49ers have had a few changes near the top of the organization this offseason, including minority owner Vinod Khosla selling his stake after agreeing to purchase the division rival Seattle Seahawks.
On Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that another high-ranking member of the franchise, Paraag Marathe, is leaving the team.
Marathe has been with the 49ers for 25 years and was serving as the president of 49ers Enterprises and the executive vice president of football operations. He was the team's top cap expert and contract negotiator, using skills that he picked up since joining the team at the turn of the century.
According to Schefter, Marathe is leaving to focus full-time on Leeds United and Rangers FC along with other sports efforts. With 49ers Enterprises, he's served as the chairman. It will be interesting to see who steps in to take his spot.
San Francisco currently has three vice presidents in their personnel and scouting department, including Tariq Ahmad (player personnel), Matt Ploenzke (football R&D) and Kewsi Adofo-Mensah (personnel and strategy), who returned to the team this offseason after serving as the Minnesota Vikings general manager.

The NFL remains one of the more exclusive clubs for those with the ability to purchase a sports team. They do not let just anyone into their circle, and those who are grandfathered in take team ownership personally. However, teams still change hands from time to time, as we saw this past weekend.
The San Francisco 49ers' limited partner, Vinod Khosla, is set to purchase the Seattle Seahawks. As part of the deal, he will, of course, relinquish his stake with the 49ers, but who are some of the other owners around the league? We wanted to take a look.
*Note: The sale of the Seahawks to Khosla is not yet approved by the league, so Jody Allen is still the owner of the franchise at the time of publication.

The proposed sale of the Seahawks will break two NFL records— one for the sale of defending Super Bowl Champions, and another for the largest reported price in the league’s history at more than $9.6 billion.
So now, what will the proposed buyer, Vinod Khosla, do with the Seahawks?
Some sports industry **** ysts and experts say it’s a prime time to use the team’s success against the fans.
“The conditions are ripe for asking for public dollars,” said Jeff Shulman, the Chair of the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business Department of Marketing and International Business.
“The team’s performing at a high level. There’s civic pride and everything, and people don’t want to see this cultural **** et leave the city,” Shulman added.

In an NFL memo Adam Schefter posted at 3:56 p.m. PST on Saturday afternoon, we learned that Neeru Khosla will officially serve as the Seattle Seahawks new controlling owner after the franchise's recent sale to the Khosla family and several limited partners.
The memo also mentions her husband Vinod, the tech investor who holds a net worth of over $13.7 billion, who's been the main name reported as the buyer of the Seahawks. According to The Hindustan Times, he's the world's 217th richest person. It says Neeru is an educator and entrepreneur, She has experience on the West Coast, having attended two of it's biggest universities in Stanford and San Jose State, earning a master's degree in molecular biology and studying gene expression.
The memo specifically mentions "Neeru Khosla, who would serve as the controlling owner," meaning the Seahawks will have a second straight female owner in row after Jody Allen. In seven years since her father Paul passed away in 2018, Jody allowed John Schneider, Pete Carroll and Mike Macdonald to advance the franchise, ensuring they would receive any help possible from ownership to see their vision through on the field. It'd be fascinating to know what advice Allen might share with Khosla, but there's plenty of hope the latter will learn from the former's approach of favoring the football operations and seeing the business thrive as a result.

Both private equity firms and deep-pocketed individuals continue to snap up stakes in professional sports teams—with the most recent being Vinod Khosla's family purchasing the Seattle Seahawks for a record $9.6 billion.
The league allowed private equity to acquire minority stakes in 2024, and there are now six PE-backed NFL franchises, according to PitchBook's Private Equity Sports Investment dashboard. NFL rules block investment firms from becoming majority team owners, confining them to passive minority stakes. But the value of those minority investments, coupled with individuals buying teams outright, has skyrocketed as the NFL and other US pro sports leagues have made it easier for teams to take in outside capital.

Another five teams have ties to private capital through their owners, who have made their fortunes in venture capital and private equity. The previous valuation record for an NFL team was set in 2023, when a group led by Apollo Global Management co-founder Josh Harris bought the Washington Commanders for $6.05 billion.
In the first instances, Arctos Partners in December 2024 bought a 10% stake in the Buffalo Bills, and Ares Management became a 10% owner of the Miami Dolphins that same month.

The world is learning a lot about the 71-year-old Vinod Khosla now that the billionaire has been revealed as the lucky man set to purchase the Seattle Seahawks. Khosla's $9.6 billion purchase signals the largest sale price of an NFL franchise, topping the Washington Commanders' mark of $6.05 billion.
While the sale to Khosla, who's an entrepreneur and venture **** istant, still has to be approved by at least three-quarters of NFL owners (24 of 32), there aren't expected to be any snags in the deal.
Meanwhile, we've learned more about what the family of the late Paul G. Allen is doing with the proceeds from the sale.
As part of the Allen family's agreement to sell the Seahawks to Vinod and his wife, Neeru Khosla, the announcement was made that the proceeds will be donated to a nonprofit organization.
"Excited to be part of this great franchise," Vinod Khosla said on X. "Also excited to see the money all go to a non-profit. No other comments till sale is final…"

Typically, the exorbitant price paid for a major-league sports franchise goes into private pockets. The proceeds from the $9.612 billion sale of the Seahawks will, like every **** et distributed by the Paul G. Allen Estate, go to charity.
"Excited to be part of this great franchise," Vinod Khosla, the leader of the group that will be buying the team, said on Twitter. "Also excited to see the money all go to a non-profit."
In that respect, the delayed sale of the team following the passing of Paul Allen has worked to the significant benefit of the charity that will benefit from the transaction. Three years after the Commanders sold for a then-record $6.05 billion, the bar has been raised by more than 50 percent.
Khosla, 71, also posted a link to his Wikipedia page. In 1976, Khosla came to the U.S. from India to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering. He co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982. Four years later, he joined venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins as a general partner.
A leading venture capitalist, he prefers the term "venture **** istant."

The acquisition of the Seahawks by a group led by 49ers minority investor Vinod Khosla set the NFL record for a change-of-control sale at $9.612 billion, ending a five-month process the league described as "robust" in a memo shared with clubs on Saturday.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Front Office Sports the sale price is $9.612 billion, soaring past the previous record of $6.05 billion, set in 2023 when the Commanders were sold to a group led by Josh Harris. The deal did not quite beat the record for the highest-priced pro team change-of-control sale in history. That still belongs to the Lakers, which last year were sold to a group led by Mark Walter at a $10 billion valuation. The Seahawks deal marks the second-largest change-of-control transaction in pro sports history.
To complete the deal, Khosla will be required to sell his minority interest in the 49ers, which was acquired just last May.
Vinod Khosla, founder of venture-capital firm Khosla Ventures, has a net worth of nearly $14 billion, according to Forbes. His wife, Neeru Khosla, will "serve as controlling owner," according to a memo shared with other NFL teams on Saturday that was obtained by FOS. Also involved will be Vinod and Neeru's son, Neal Khosla, the memo says—he is expected to "have a significant leadership role in the ownership group."
"We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks," Vinod Khosla said in a statement announcing the deal. "We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere."

Seattle announced that the team has been sold to an ownership group led by the Khosla family. This includes Vinod Khosla, a limited partner in the San Francisco 49ers.
The team was reportedly sold for a record $9.6 billion, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham.
This will be the first ownership change for the Seahawks since 1997, when the franchise was purchased by Paul Allen. After his death in 2018, the ownership of the team transferred to Allen’s estate and was managed by his sister Jody Allen.

With the start of the NFL’s regular season drawing ever closer, there remains one question hanging over the head of the Seattle Seahawks’ organization: Who will our next owner be?
It’s a question that could soon have its answer. According to a report from Front Office Sports’ Ben Horney, the bidding process appears to be down to two options. One group vying for ownership of the Super Bowl champions is led by San Francisco 49ers minority stake owner, Vinod Khosla, while the other is being championed by Boston Celtics minority owner Aditya Mittal and a former Celtics governor, Wyc Grousbeck.
Seahawks fans may want anyone ***** ociated with their vaunted NFC West rivals to stay far away from the franchise; however, there is a component to one of the groups that should bring a smile to their faces. Horney reports that at least one former Seahawks player is involved in one of the groups, though no specifics were mentioned in the article about which group or which player we might expect to see in a deal.
If Khosla is involved in purchasing the Seahawks, the family would be forced to sell their minority stake in the 49ers, which it acquired last spring. While these two groups appear to be the finalists, Horney says that a third suitor emerging is not out of the question.
The report from Horney keeps in line with the timeline discussed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport on the Pat McAfee Show in late May. Rapoport said in that appearance that the team could have a new ownership by August and that the sale could go for a record $10 billion.
