Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has accused embattled FIFA president Gianni Infantino of pressing the "self-destruct **** on" over failed plans to sell stakes in the World Cup.
Infantino is fighting to stay in his job following huge backlash to his intention to sell a minority stake in FIFA tournaments to private investors.
UEFA has become his main detractor, with the Football **** ociation withdrawing its support for Infantino.
"This is a problem of FIFA's making," Masters told BBC Sport.

Aug 14 (Reuters) - The top U.S. financial regulator on Friday made permanent its decision to cease judging whether companies may exclude shareholder resolutions from votes at annual meetings, leaving investor activists concerned about diminishing influence.
In practice, the change announced by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission extends a freeze put in place last November on deciding whether to approve corporate requests to skip votes on shareholder proposals.
The responses were known as "no-action" letters because they answered corporate requests for **** urance the agency would take no action if executives skipped votes on proposals that often deal with hot-button issues like carbon emissions or workforce diversity.
Executives claimed such measures may micromanage operations or deal with ordinary business undeserving of investors' attention.

PSLs or Personal Seat Licenses are a hot-button topic in Broncos Country right now. First, what exactly are PSLs? They are a one-time fee to secure the exclusive right to purchase season tickets for specific seats. It has become a new trendy thing in the sports landscape recently. The Buffalo Bills are doing PSLs for their newly opened Highmark Stadium and reportedly made nearly $260 million dollars
Greg Penner said the Broncos haven’t even got to deciding on PSLs yet pic.twitter.com/A5gtL5VMLC
The outrage amongst Broncos fans started when Team President Damani Leech was asked at the start of training camp if a decision had been made when it comes to implementing PSLs. Leech noted that most, if not all, new stadiums built in the past 10+ years had them issued and that they are a "pretty likely thing to happen", but did say no formal decision had been made at that time.
"As you know, I think every stadium in the last 10-plus years that's been built, there have been PSLs issued. So it seems like it's a pretty likely thing to happen, but we haven't made any formal decisions on that."
Well, on Tuesday, Denver Broncos Owner and CEO Greg Penner met with the media and was also asked about PSLs. Unlike Leech, who made it sound like a formality, Penner told reporters that PSLs are "the furthest thing from our minds right now" and that they have so many steps before they reach that point.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham sparked a controversy with her comments on transgender athlete participation in women's sports in a July 21 profile published by ESPN.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she said in the feature. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
Since the initial comments, everyone from her podcast co-host to the White House has weighed in on the hot-button topic, and rallies in support of Cunningham have been held outside of the arenas Indiana is set to play in before the Fever's games.
On Wednesday, after weeks of the debate continuing with seemingly no end, Cunningham called on the focus to return to basketball.
"I think the WNBA media, all we ever do is cover everything except basketball, and it's like, what, like, what are we doing?" Cunningham asked at practice on Wednesday. "There's so much, like, you can talk about other things. I think those are great stories. I think It shows fans, you know, who people are outside of the court. But I also think we got to keep the main thing the main thing."

No matter the discourse that flares up around her style of play, the fouls she takes from opposing players or the various political controversies that find their way into the WNBA ecosystem, Caitlin Clark has been remarkably consistent about one thing during her entire career.
She wants no part of your agenda.
If you're on the left and believe Clark is doing something to foster online racism and harassment toward her opponents, it is apparent that no amount of denunciation (which she has done many times) will convince you that she just wants to play ball. And if you're on the other side of the spectrum, trying to bait her into one of these hot-button debates that dominates right-wing media, you, too, will find yourself disappointed by her equal-opportunity evasiveness.
In an era where every athlete is supposed to have an opinion on everything for the rest of us to judge as we retreat into ideological camps, here's a basketball player who literally just wants to shut up and dribble.
And her reward is getting attacked from both sides.

With Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham's comments that she wants to protect "young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men," the conversation around the political hot-button issue has landed at the WNBA's doorstep.
While only 1% of the U.S. population identifies as transgender and there were, as of 2024, fewer than 10 transgender student-athletes among the NCAA's 510,000 athletes, the concern has become the cause celebre in right-wing circles, presumably because it's one of the few issues they have some momentum on amid a wide array of unpopular policies and trends.
As such, right-wing journalists and pundits have seized on the WNBA's stance on transgender athletes (despite there being no transgender women in the league). Since Cunningham's initial comments and doubling down on it amid rallies from supporters during the Fever's current road trip, several WNBA coaches have shared their thoughts on the matter.
Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White and Portland Fire coach Alex Sarama both expressed a desire for inclusivity and further discussion, and they navigated direct questions about how they'd feel about a "biological male" playing in the league.
Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve offered an insightful diatribe about how the transgender athlete issue is being pushed to the forefront, while many other pressing concerns affecting women's sports are getting the actual focus. She also shared nuanced thoughts on the situation transgender kids and athletes are facing and how more education and discussion could benefit everyone.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has decided to use her platform to speak out on a hot-button political issue, and predictably, it has sparked widespread outrage from fans.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Cunningham spoke out against transgender women competing in women’s sport, eliciting quite a strong response from fans and media.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Cunningham was asked about the “MAGA Barbie” nickname she has recently been given. While Cunningham says that label is a projection, given that she is a white girl from Missouri, she did go on to speak out on how to “protect women’s sports.”
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,'” she told ESPN. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
Despite these comments, Cunningham claims that she is “very much in the middle” when it comes to her political beliefs.

Anything and everything involving Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark this season has become a hot-button issue. Fans and media members have debated her emotional outbursts on the bench and with referees, the way she is defended and officiated, and her impact on the floor.
Most recently, the discourse has revolved around whether Clark, who finished 1st amongst guards in All-Star voting by active players, deserved a higher finish. Eyebrows were raised on Wednesday when David Dennis Jr. said that there was no "compelling argument" for Clark as one of the four best guards in the WNBA.
"I don't think that you can make a compelling argument that Caitlin Clark is a top 4 guard in the WNBA. Like, ***** ody can at this point," he said.
"That is why she was 11th. She got the 11th most votes for being in the top 4. So there's really no controversy about that, because especially when you add in the fact that she is one of the most popular players in the WNBA, she's going to make the All-Star team. That is not the argument here."
Fans were incensed over Dennis's take, and it's now clear that they weren't the only ones who thought it was ludicrous. On Thursday, former WNBA star and current NFL reporter Stacey Dales appeared on First Take to sing Clark's praises.

This WNBA season has been a roller coaster, especially when it comes to Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark. Any and all coverage surrounding Clark has become a hot-button issue in the league, whether it be Indiana’s pedestrian play in the first half of the season, Clark’s emotional outbursts during games, or her involvement in testy confrontations with the Phoenix Mercury.
Clark and the Fever will look to have a strong second half of the season, and are likely looking forward to the mental reset that will come with the WNBA All-Star break. However, more controversy around Clark has sparked online, after the sharpshooter was ranked eleventh among guards in the final All-Star player vote, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.
Fans on social media, with whom Clark came in second, behind only Paige Bueckers, were outraged with the players’ final tally.
WNBA aWhy do they guard her 94ft and have multiple defenders on her?” one fan posted on X.
“I’m sorry everyone needs to be ashamed of themselves bc wtf am I reading,” someone else added.

Pointedly, Mauricio Pochettino was one of many in the dark. In ordinary circumstances, the United States securing their second-ever World Cup knockout victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday would have dominated the agenda for its historical context and national impact. Instead, Pochettino and his squad will leave Santa Clara for their Irvine base, 400 miles down the Californian coast, with an overwhelming sense of frustration, perhaps teetering towards infuriation.
Because despite the USA’s accomplished and well-deserved victory, there was a hot-button issue. Folarin Balogun’s second-half sending-off was clearly the major talking point. Pochettino had already voiced his dismay at the decision – “it’s never a red card, there was never [any] intention to step on the player” – when he pondered: “It should be possible to appeal the red card…”
Was it a query or a statement? He glanced over to his media officer; it was the former. Quickly, a reporter informed him that, by the black-and-white Fifa rulebook, it was not possible to appeal a red card. Article 66.4 of the regulations states: “A sending-off automatically incurs suspension from the subsequent match. The FIFA judicial bodies may impose additional match suspensions and other disciplinary measures.”
So, there you have it: not only is it not possible to appeal a verdict which bemused so many, pundits and fans alike, but the wording insinuates that the only possible modification to Balogun’s one-match sanction is an increase to two or three games. The lack of manoeuvrability, the opportunity for the US to present their case and have it **** sed retrospectively, is somewhat baffling for a stage as grand as the World Cup.
US midfielder Tyler Adams, speaking afterwards, had an altogether simpler viewpoint: “Typical Fifa.”

Rihanna has left the internet aflame, posing in a Savage x Fenty lace plunge bra that peeked through the unbuttoned shirt she layered over it. The songstress took to Instagram on July 1 to share a new picture of her in the outfit as part of the brand's summer campaign.
Rihanna once again exhibited her top-notch styling game in her latest Instagram post. She wore the new Daisy Riot Boy Short 2-Piece Set from Savage x Fenty, featuring the Lightly Lined Plunge Bra and the Lace Boy Short Panty. Crafted from delicate yellow lace, the bra featured intricate floral embroidery across the cups and scalloped edges. While the shorts were not fully visible, they featured the same embroidered design and scalloped-edge finish.
Further, the "Diamonds" hitmaker layered it with the yellow-and-white micro-gingham checkered set, consisting of high-waisted shorts and a ******* on-down shirt. She wore the shirt draped completely off one shoulder and slouching around her arms, creating an effortless, relaxed silhouette. Below, she sported matching shorts with the lace panty peeking out from underneath.
Rihanna completed her look with pointed-toe stiletto pumps. Crafted from matching yellow satin fabric, the shoes featured a subtle pink floral brocade pattern. The glamorous, shimmering crystal-embellished ankle straps elevated the heels. Further, she accessorized with small, dangling teardrop charms, which added more sparkle to her look.
The Grammy singer's beauty look leaned into a dreamy, high-fashion aesthetic. Her long, honey-blonde hair fell past her shoulders in voluminous, tousled mermaid waves. Meanwhile, her makeup featured a dramatic, draped pink blush that swept heavily across her cheekbones, up to her temples and eyes. She paired it with a glossy nude lip and subtle eye makeup. She posed against a vibrant blue fabric backdrop. In another photo, she sat inside a large, inflatable blue peacock pool float.

Christian Parker, the Cowboys' new defensive coordinator, has played things awfully close to the vest since arriving in Dallas as a first-time DC. While many of the ins and outs of his defensive scheme have yet to be unveiled, the youngest DC in franchise history has pulled back the curtain some on his own football journey. From a revelation at the youth level that he wanted to coach to the first jersey he ever owned being a Deion Sanders Cowboys No. 21, maybe it was inevitable Parker ended up at The Star.
Also in today's headlines, more on the decision of C.J. Goodwin to hang up his cleats after a special career on special teams, we dig into the big fat roster hole that not enough of Cowboys Nation is talking about, and we get to know seventh-round draft pick Anthony Smith, who has a long climb up the depth chart at wide receiver but also may just have the tools to do it. All that, plus a roundup of the celebrities who've been seen at JerryWorld during the World Cup... and Jones may have his sights set on returning the international favor by taking the Cowboys to Argentina.
Plus, we'll take a quick spin through the other teams in the NFC East and then pull back for a look at other league news. Among today's hot-button topics, the Lions have released former first-round draft pick Terrion Arnold after a $1 million bond and being placed on house arrest in felony armed robbery and kidnapping charges. We'll also share the heartbreaking health update from former **** ans running back Chris Johnson, who has revealed he is battling ALS... as well as why one pundit says that alone isn't the full story. Aaron Donald is apparently seriously considering a Rams comeback, and O.J. Simpson is being left out of a display of Bills greats at the new Highmark Stadium.

The WNBA’s treatment of its biggest star. Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark has become a hot-button issue in the last week. Clark’s back was injured in a game against the Phoenix Mercury after a reckless closeout. Clark was struck in the neck area by Mercury guard Alyssa Thomas, resulting in Clark’s missing the Fever’s next game and Thomas being awarded a flagrant 2 foul after the game and an accompanying one-game suspension.
Still, many feel that the league isn’t doing enough to protect Clark. Others, such as Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, feel the Fever’s sharpshooter isn’t being marketed properly, in light of her being left off a special WNBA 30th anniversary poster.
“Well, it’s the worst marketed league in the history of leagues,” Portnoy said of the league. “They’re absolute morons. That’s the answer. Now, a lot of times social media will take this into a different stratosphere.”
Portnoy said that he thinks the issues with Clark’s treatment by the league are less about race and more about jealousy.
“I don’t think it really is because she’s a white girl, a straight girl, which people say, because the W has had a lot of white superstars and WNBA players,” he added. “So it’s not like she’s the first white girl. A lot of the great players of all time— we just mentioned Taurasi, uh, they’ve had great white female basketball players. I think They felt she was anointed. **** ody has ever come into the league like she has.
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — How can you not love a guy who showed up to play in the U.S. Open without his pants?
We’ll get to that story in a moment, but first, let’s introduce Harry Higgs. He looks a whole lot more like he belongs in the gallery crushing beers than inside the ropes crushing drives, and that’s most definitely a compliment. He plays with his shirt too unbuttoned, and maybe his psyche too. He’s 34 years old, he’s the 356th-ranked player in the world, he has exactly zero PGA Tour wins, and before this weekend, his record in the U.S. Open was one appearance, one missed cut.
Yet now, sitting at 1-under entering Round 3, in a tie with Justin Thomas for seventh, and a stroke ahead of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, Higgs is having his moment.
He’s maybe best known, virally speaking, for his take on the “Dreams Challenge” back in 2020 — you remember, cruising without a care in the world to the tune of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”:
Turns out, though, Higgs was carrying a whole lot of pain, a whole lot of self-loathing. As talented as he was — he played college golf alongside Bryson DeChambeau at SMU — he’s tended to stomp on the sparks of his own game before it can even get started.
