Kenan Thompson may be a Hollywood pro, but in the early days, he had anything but beginner's luck.
During a recent appearance on the "Good Hang with Amy Poehler" podcast, the "Saturday Night Live" star, who made his film debut in the sports comedy "D2: The Mighty Ducks," said the role made him want to quit acting.
The 1994 Disney flick, starring Emilio Estevez, follows the coming-of-age journey of an underdog teen hockey team. Thompson, who was 15 during the movie's production, played street hockey player Russ Tyler, who helps the Mighty Ducks up their game for an international tournament.
"I put it on my résumé under special skills that I could roller skate, but you know, I never in a million years considered hockey," Thompson told host and fellow "SNL" alum Amy Poehler on the Sept. 1 episode. "I wanted to learn, but after that first day of hockey camp, which was on my 15th birthday, I wanted to quit it all."
Thompson said the role's demanding physicality made him seriously reconsider his career path at the time.

Florida State football commenced the 2026 season with a home opener at Doak S. Campbell Stadium against the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday, Aug. 29., where the Seminoles defeated the Aggies 34-17 in a roller coaster of a performance.
FSU started the game on defense after losing the coin toss. Despite the Aggies gaining some ground early on, the defense held strong. The crowd erupted after senior defensive back Quindarrius Jones intercepted a throw in the end zone to put the 'Noles on offense.
Following the turnover, the Garnet and Gold, led by fifth year quarterback Ashton Daniels, engineered a strong drive that brought them into the red zone. However, after Daniels was sacked on third and goal, Florida State was forced to settle for a field goal from senior kicker Gabe Panikowski to take an early 3-0 lead.
Later on in the first quarter, a screen pass from Daniels to senior running back Samuel Singleton Jr. set the Seminoles up inside the New Mexico State 10-yard line once again.
On third down, Daniels scored his first touchdown of the season as he evaded the blitz to give FSU a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. However, New Mexico State bounced back with a touchdown of their own as New Mexico State junior quarterback Trey Hedden connected with senior receiver Brodie Malone-Bradford to cut the Aggies' deficit to three.

Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al Nahyan and co-investors are behind an entity that owns 49% of the holding company created for the planned Trump crypto World Liberty Financial's US banking venture, according to people familiar with the matter, as cited by The Wall Street Journal.
The stake makes Tahnoon-linked investors the largest shareholders in the holding company behind a bank being prepared by the Trump family's cryptocurrency venture.
The reported ownership arrangement follows a $500M investment in World Liberty Financial that Tahnoon backed last year in exchange for a 49% stake in the company, the Journal previously reported. The new venture expands the business relationship between the Trump-backed crypto company and a foreign government official.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency earlier this month granted preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty Financial to launch a federally chartered national trust bank, according to the Journal's Aug. 27 report. The proposed bank would issue, redeem and safeguard USD1, the dollar-backed stablecoin World Liberty launched last year.
The preliminary approval places the proposed bank at the center of World Liberty Financial's stablecoin business. It also focuses on the ownership of the holding company created for the venture, in which Tahnoon and his co-investors are reported to hold the largest stake.

Daytona was roller coaster of a night for Shane van Gisbergen, and it ended in disappointment for the No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet.
He watched Ryan Preece, Chris Buescher, and Kyle Larson all crash in front of him early in the running, clearing the way for SVG to earn his first-ever oval stage win and secure ten points.
However, Preece pulled off a remarkable save and suffered minimal damage. Even while sliding, he crossed the line in eighth and scored three points. He added another nine in Stage 2, bringing his total to 12.
Van Gisbergen spent the final stint of the race knowing that he had a 29-point cushion, which meant that Preece would have to beat Van Gisbergen by at least 30 positions on track (as SVG would win the tiebreaker) to make the Chase ... unless he won the race.
In a situation where Preece -- who entered Saturday's race 0-248 in Cup wins -- captured the checkered flag, Van Gisbergen couldn't afford to finish any worse than 11th.

Qnity now expects full-year adjusted EPS of $4.40 to $4.60 (up from its prior forecast of $3.80 to $4.14), net sales between $5.55 billion and $5.65 billion, adjusted operating EBITDA of $1.675 billion to $1.725 billion, and adjusted free cash flow of $600 million to $700 million.
For Q2 2026, Qnity Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:Q) generated net sales of $1.4 billion, up 22% year-over-year on a 23% volume increase. Growth was balanced across both operational divisions: Semiconductor Technologies produced $744 million in revenue (with adjusted operating EBITDA of $253 million), while Interconnect Solutions delivered $685 million (with adjusted operating EBITDA of $197 million). Adjusted EPS rose 53% year-over-year to $1.19, comfortably above Wall Street estimates. During the August 24 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer pointed to the sharp reversal in AEVEX Corp. (NYSE:AVEX) stock as he said:
What the heck happened to a stock we really like, AEVEX? I mean, here's a company that makes drones for the military, the single hottest part of the defense sector yet, its stock's been [on] a, let's call it, a roller coaster. AEVEX came public at $20 back in April, jumped nearly 35% the first day of trading, ultimately running as high as $42 and change a few days later. Now, though, it's fallen through the offer price, coming down to $18. I can't find out why.
Some of it's because AEVEX reported earlier this month, and Wall Street, I guess, didn't like the numbers. Stock got slammed. Didn't matter that it was a huge revenue beat. The earnings and backlog both came in weaker than expected, but not that much. Still, I think demand remains strong. They keep winning a lot of new business. At the same time, AEVEX is trying to buy BlackSea Technologies for as much as $650 million in stock and cash, which is a lot of money when you're a $2 billion company. This would give them exposure to unmanned ships and submarines, which they could tie into their drone software system.
AEVEX Corp. (NYSE:AVEX) reported $201.8 million of revenue for the second quarter, up 99.5% from $101.1 million a year earlier. Net income improved to $6.7 million from a loss of $11.8 million, while adjusted EBITDA rose to $28.1 million from $3.6 million. Most of the growth came from AEVEX's tactical systems business. Revenue in the segment increased to $174.2 million, up 141.6% year over year, driven by higher UAS product and support revenue.
AEVEX Corp. (NYSE:AVEX) ended the second quarter with $259.8 million of funded backlog, down from $503.1 million at the end of 2025. That represents a decline of roughly 48%. The company said the $243.3 million decline was primarily due to revenue recognized from the EUCOM AOR Deep Strike program. The company also said the balance was affected by an increase in shorter-cycle customer orders. AEVEX continued to secure new business during the quarter, including contracts for UAS and engineering services, mission-support capabilities, and advanced unmanned mission capabilities.

The Yankees dropped their series with the Astros after a futile offensive performance on Thursday.
But it's the defense of their rookie shortstop that has raised eyebrows.
George Lombard Jr.'s defense was touted as "major league ready" for awhile and he showed that when he was first called up to the big leagues. However, he made his seventh error of the season Thursday. Of those seven, he's made one error in at least six straight games.
The defensive misplay occurred in the eighth with the Astros up 4-1. Yainer Diaz hit a roller to the left side that both Jose Caballero and Lombard charged at. The third baseman gave way to Lombard, who booted it. The ball was hit to Caballero, who tried to throw out the runner and end the inning, but it sailed.
"I don't know [what's going on], it's something I'm trying to figure out," Lombard said after the loss. "It's not acceptable, can't happen at this level. If you make your pitchers get extra outs and makes it way harder on us. Teams will definitely capitalize. It's something I have to clean up and I'll be better tomorrow."

Leonard Williams walked in with, and was holding, the evidence of how the Seahawks and Seattle have transformed his life.
Williams grew up in Dayton Beach, Florida, "grew up, you know, homeless, at times. I grew up living in, in and out of hotels, motels — and, you know, kind of an unstable lifestyle as a young kid," the 32-year-old Pro Bowl defensive lineman said last year.
Williams had just signed his three-year, $90 million extension with $56 million guaranteed to him Thursday. It keeps him under contract with the defending Super Bowl champions through 2029.
He was walking the team's indoor practice field into a press conference Thursday. His wife Hailey, whom he married last year before he second full season with the Seahawks, walked with him. She pushed a stroller. He held their five-month-old son, Zion.

Fortune Business Insights projects a 54.48% compound annual growth rate for CXL memory products through 2034. With the Mariners showing no consistent signs in the second half that they'd put their first-half struggles behind them, many fans have put to bed their hopes for the playoffs, especially as the team entered into this particularly grueling stretch of a long road trip combined with playing three very tough NL teams: the Brewers, Cubs, and now the Phillies. Both the Brewers and Cubs series featured brutal, humiliating losses, the Brewers a historic 22-0 drubbing and the Cubs – despite a series win thanks to scraping out wins in the first two games – a game that saw multiple position players have to take the mound in a 19-2 loss. But just as the Mariners bounced back to ******* a game from the Brewers after making team history (derogatory), they again bounced back tonight to surprise the Phillies with a dominant 9-2 win that also made history (complimentary).
It certainly didn't look like things were going to go this way. The game got off to a rough start for Logan Gilbert, who walked Kyle Schwarber on five pitches to lead off the game. He struck out Trea Turner on a spicy 98 mph heater, but then surrendered back-to-back singles to Bryce Harper and Luis Arraez to load the bases with just one out. To Gilbert's credit, though, he didn't wilt under pressure, continuing to execute pitch after pitch. Alex Boehm hit into an RBI groundout on a slow roller that could have been an inning-ending double play, and then Gilbert bullied Bryson Stott on four pitches, striking him out on another spicy heater. In the end, the Phillies only got one run out of all that traffic, and the only real damage was done to Logan's pitch count, at 29.
But Zack Wheeler had his own struggles in the bottom of the first, and would finish the inning with a similarly inflated pitch count (33) but significantly more damage on the scoreboard thanks to two Mariners home runs. MULTI-run home runs, even, which is delightful. Semiconductor solutions provider Marvell Technology (MRVL) has recently risen after a deal was revealed with Google parent Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL) that would allow Google to buy $12.20 billion worth of shares in the chipmaker. DETROIT — I'm calling it. The Tigers are toast.
It's been another rollercoaster of a season for Detroit's baseball team, which two years ago bucked 0.2% odds, and last year blew a 16.5-game lead in the division. Both seasons, the Tigers ended up in the playoffs and actually won a playoff series. Not this year. This year, the rollercoaster has crashed, burned and there's no coming back from that.
The Tigers entered last weekend's home series against the Chicago White Sox with a chance to take over first place in the American League Central with a sweep. They got swept, and that was the beginning of the end.
Since the start of that series, the Tigers have lost seven of eight games, including the first two games of this weekend's series against the Royals in Kansas City. They now are 61-68, seven games under .500 for the first time since mid-July. They are six games back of the White Sox.
And, the worst, they are 2.5 games back of the final wild-card spot, which doesn't seem all that daunting, until you consider this: There are seven teams in the hunt for that final playoff spot, and the Tigers sit seventh in that race. Jumping one, two or even three teams is doable, still with 33 games to go. Jumping six? Yeah, they're toast.

Jessica Pegula rallied from a break down in the final set to topple defending champion Iga Swiatek 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 on Saturday and reach the final of the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters.
World number three Pegula needed nearly three hours to dethrone Swiatek as the duo rode a rollercoaster of breaks and re-breaks before the 31-year-old American took a 5-4 lead in the final set after Swiatek saved three break points but double-faulted on a fourth.
Pegula quickly closed it out, firing a service winner on match point to reach Sunday's championship match in the US Open tune-up.
"Crazy match today," Pegula said. "A lot of back and forth, a lot of breaks," Pegula said, "Really windy, kind of odd conditions. I felt like we were playing well and then not playing well.

Bayern picked up right where they left off last season by winning the first trophy of the campaign, the German Super Cup, against rivals Dortmund.
And yet, the Bavarians were far from being in steamroller mode. They did manage to produce a very convincing first half, during which they scored twice, led by an already twice-decisive Olise: first with an ****** ist for Brown, who beat Kobel with a left-footed side-foot finish, then by getting on the scoresheet himself after a Bellingham turnover and a solo run capped with an outside-of-the-foot strike.

In the end, Dortmund had to wait until the 72nd minute, when substitute Fabio Silva managed to pull one back against a Bayern side that had become very passive. It was not enough, however, to stop the Bavarians from winning the 11th Super Cup in their history, despite a tense finish marked by Bensebaini's sending-off and a Beier shot (90+4) that sent a shiver through the entire stadium.

LA is looking to prove it can remain a high-level team without LeBron James on the roster. The Lakers have been interested in NBA champion Jonathan ***** inga from the beginning of free agency.
"There is mutual free agent interest between Jonathan ***** inga and the Lakers, per Jovan Buha. Los Angeles continues to work behind the scenes to secure ***** inga's commitment as their new wing addition," NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.
The Lakers have pursued ***** inga for so long that the situation has become a rollercoaster as everyone waits to see where he will ultimately land. Los Angeles has even offered him a contract, making it surprising that a deal has yet to be finalized.

Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL) has expanded its partnership with Google to develop custom chips for AI infrastructure, strengthening its position in the growing custom-silicon market. The agreement covers several areas linked to Google's Tensor Processing Unit ecosystem, including AI inference accelerators, storage and networking products, memory interface controllers, and near-memory computing.
Alongside the commercial agreement, Marvell issued Google a warrant to buy up to 58.97 million Marvell shares at $206.58 each. If fully exercised, the warrant would be worth about $12.18 billion. The headline figure is important, but it needs some context because Google is not committing $12.18 billion upfront. Most of the warrants will vest only as Marvell generates revenue from Google over the coming years.
Investors reacted strongly to the news, with Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL) shares gaining more than 11% in premarket trading. Broadcom, Google's existing custom-chip partner, fell more than 2%.

The most important part of the deal may be the way the warrant is structured. Most of the shares are linked to actual revenue from Google rather than simply vesting over time. That gives investors a fairly clear way to track how the relationship develops.
