All eyes were on Buffalo Bills second-year cornerback Maxwell Hairston during the team's preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hairston started at cornerback Thursday night, and there's been plenty of attention paid to his missed tackle in the open field early in action.
To that end, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic shared that head coach Joe Brady gave a very definitive and public vote of confidence in Hairston, stating to reporters that "(h)e's our starting corner" when asked if there's a competition at CB2. That competition query of of course refers to the presence of rookie cornerback Davison Igbinosun.
The question now for One Bills Drive is whether or not they write Hairston's name in pencil or permanent marker. That's something Hairston will have to influence in his second season, and likely hold off any incursion by Igbinosun.
After putting a difficult rookie year behind him that saw his first season bookended by significant injuries, it appeared as though Hairston was setting up to take off in year two. Well, at least that seemed like the plan for as long as Sean McDermott was the head coach.
The trouble for Hairston may have been that McDermott's future at One Bills Drive perished the same night of Buffalo's playoff loss to the Denver Broncos last January. Though that could appear short-sighted when considering that the main person responsible for selecting him in the first round was still in house — Brandon Beane — and received a promotion to include president of football operations within his executive **** le as general manager.

Viola Davis called out Target over its apology after the retailer pulled a children's costume widely criticized as racist.
The Oscar winner responded to the corporation's mea culpa, in which they acknowledged they "got this wrong," in an Instagram post Tuesday, where she refused to accept their apology.
"Target, I do not accept your apology, and I do not believe that you understand the impact… the pain… the dehumanization of the above," the legendary actress, who is best known for her work in "The Woman King," "Doubt," "Fences," "The Help," "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," and "How to Get Away With Murder," wrote.

Unfortunately, the 49ers lost one of their 2026 draft picks in the first quarter of the exhibition matchup, as cornerback Ephesians Prysock suffered a shoulder injury was originally listed as questionable to return. He's now been ruled out.
Prysock, 23, played collegiately at Arizona (2022-23) and Washington (2024-25) before San Francisco took him in the fourth round (No. 139 overall) of this year's draft. He's popped a bit in the team's first two preseason games, so this actually is a big loss for this contest, especially considering the starters aren't playing.

Bryant McKinnie spent 12 seasons protecting quarterbacks in the NFL. Now he wants a chance to help decide which players make it onto a roster in the first place.
The former Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens tackle told TMZ Sports that he would like to work in an NFL front office after repeatedly questioning personnel decisions from home. "Sometimes I sit there, I'm like, 'Who was making these decisions?'" he said.
McKinnie is particularly interested in recruiting and the draft rather than returning as a position coach. He even has potential destinations in mind, mentioning the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins while joking that a return to Minnesota is less attractive because he is not sure he wants to live there again.
The idea would give McKinnie another post-playing role connected to football. The 2002 No. 7 overall pick made the Pro Bowl with Minnesota, won Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore and now regularly discusses NFL personnel and roster construction as a co-host of Bleav in Vikings.
McKinnie told TMZ that some draft selections leave him wondering what a team saw in the player. "Sometimes I just feel like the picks just aren't making sense sometimes," he said. Liverpool's summer planning appears to have moved sharply in the ******* e of a few days, with The Independent reporting that an agreement has been reached for Bradley Barcola and that attention is now turning towards Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.
For a club that has spent much of the window weighing options and managing price points, this would represent a significant shift. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for LSU, who is now the starting signal-caller for the Washington Commanders, sent his former university a cease-and-desist letter over the use of his name, image, and likeness after the Tigers gave his No. 5 jersey to cornerback DJ Pickett.
The story has already been memed to death, but it's apparently no laughing matter for Daniels, who refused to answer questions about it during a press scrum earlier this week.
"Nah, I posted a statement on Instagram and it said everything I needed to say. So, appreciate y'all," Daniels told reporters.

In between his two media interactions, the Indian captain saw his team register a comprehensive win in Galle and then settle for a draw in a fixture they were well positioned to win in Colombo. Although the series was won, the trophy secured, and his undefeated run as captain checked off crucial boxes, India left behind crucial WTC points needed to boost their win percentage.

As captain, he had his most challenging few days under the sun in Colombo when Sonal Dinusha and the Sri Lanka's tail frustrated the visitors and prevented them from getting the result they desperately wanted. There were moments he would helplessly stand and observe from the short-cover position, have an intense chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir when nothing worked and then even egg his teammates on when their shoulders started dropping.

Highlighting the volume of overs the spinners bowled on a surface which became easier to bat as the game progressed, Gill gave them 10/10 for effort and intent, and continued to focus on the ultimate goal - the World Test Championship.

"The spinners bowled 50-60 overs on the trot for three days. Fielding for three days is not an easy task in these conditions with the heat. In terms of effort, I would say 10 out of 10 for the effort and the intent. A lot of learning, so many things won't always go as you plan, but as long as we still have a chance to qualify for the World Test Championship," added Gill.

Tonight marks a first for University of West Florida football. The Argos are scheduled to play their first NCAA Division I game when they open the season against No. 16 Southern Illinois. The matchup comes just months after UWF announced in April that it would move to Division I, joining the United Athletic Conference for football and the Atlantic Sun for other sports.
The opener also starts a new chapter for coach Kaleb ***** les, who played quarterback in UWF's first game in 2016 and now leads the program as head coach. UWF built a quick Division II resume that included a national championship in 2019 and six playoff appearances. Now the question is how that success translates at the FCS level, beginning with a season opener that should give the Argos an early test against a ranked opponent.
Tonight's game is UWF's first football contest as a Division I program, making it a milestone moment for the university and for a program that is not yet 10 years old.

Aug 27 (Reuters) - Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh appear at odds over a question at the heart of U.S. financial policy. How hands-off can policymakers be when it comes to setting a price for money?
Warsh has advocated retreating from some of the central bank's longstanding ‌communication policies in favor of letting markets do the heavy lifting, while Bessent has deployed a number of tools, some of them unusual, in the name of ‌aiding market function.
The divide has come into view as the Trump administration steps up efforts to contain long-term borrowing costs — a push whose success appears unlikely to many ****** ysts and portfolio managers without concrete steps to contain the sprawling U.S. fiscal deficit.
That contrast in approaches will come into focus on Friday morning, when Warsh is scheduled to speak at the Fed's annual event in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Wynonna Judd's daughter, Grace Pauline Kelley, is reportedly pregnant in prison.
Last month, a judge denied Kelley's motion for a temporary release to give birth to her second child, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly on Wednesday, August 26.
The documents stated that Kelley's legal team requested the release on July 2 and said she's expecting a baby "on or about August 16."

There is a question hanging over the small carrier world right now, and two of the most knowledgeable transportation attorneys in the country did not flinch from it when they sat down separately on The Long Haul. The question is whether the small carrier, the one-truck owner-operator and the five-truck fleet, still has a viable future as an independent business, or whether the forces set in motion by the Supreme Court's Montgomery decision are quietly pushing that operator toward extinction as an independent and into the arms of a larger carrier.
Neither attorney sugarcoated it. Brian Nelson, a partner at Taylor Nelson Slattery Bernard in St. Petersburg, Florida, who spent years as general counsel inside a broker, a motor carrier, and a 3PL under one roof, walked through the legal machinery now bearing down on carriers. Greg Feary, president and managing partner of Scopelitis, the firm the biggest fleets in the country call when things go wrong, went further and named the outcome he is already seeing. Together, their two conversations form the clearest picture available of where the small carrier stands, and it is a picture every independent operator needs to see.
Start with the ruling itself, because everything else flows from it. In Montgomery v. Caribe Transport, decided this May by a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court, the justices answered a single question: do brokers have a duty to select carriers that operate safely over the roadways? The Court said yes. As Nelson explained, that put brokers back into what he called the firing squad, meaning they can no longer get a negligent selection lawsuit dismissed early on the grounds that federal law preempts it.
Before May 14, in most of the country, a broker sued after a crash could file a motion to dismiss and often walk out of the litigation quickly on preemption grounds. Nelson described the old routine: file the answer, file the motion to dismiss, argue there is no valid claim, and get out. That door is now closed. As Nelson put it, brokers can no longer rely on that early exit, which means they now have to go through discovery and potentially all the way to summary judgment. That longer, more expensive path is why insurance companies are raising rates, because they know they will have to pay defense costs deeper into every case.

Chris Sails, best known for his popular YouTube channel Chris and Queen with his ex-wife, has often remained in the spotlight through his YouTube videos and music. However, this time, the YouTuber is facing legal trouble after police alleged that he falsely claimed his children had fallen into a body of water.
According to TMZ, citing court documents, the Waller County Sheriff's Office responded to a call on Aug. 16 about a suspicious person running and jumping onto residents' cars.
The documents state that an officer arrived at the scene and found Sails sitting in the roadway near a light pole and appearing to pray. Moments later, the officer said Sails began rolling around in the street.
During questioning, police claim Sails told them that his children had fallen into a body of water directly behind his home. Authorities immediately deployed fire department vehicles, search-and-rescue boats, specialized sonar equipment and aerial drones to search for them.
However, officers later learned that family members had the children safely in their care and ended the search.
