The Browns have started the process of setting their initial 53-man roster.
They announced 15 cuts from their training camp roster and one cut from injured reserve on Friday afternoon. All 32 teams need to get down to 53 players by Sunday afternoon's deadline.
Four of the players were released as vested veterans. Cornerbacks Tre Avery and Tyler Hall joined offensive tackle Tyre Phillips in getting dropped from the active roster while tight end Jack Stoll was released from injured reserve.
They also waived tight end Drew Biber, offensive tackle Jeremiah Byers, punter Nik Constantinou, safety Christopher Edmonds, cornerback Nate Evans, defensive tackle Coziah Izzard, defensive tackle Patrick Jenkins, cornerback Jeremiah McClendon, offensive tacke Izavion Miller, defensive end Jamil Muhammad, wide receiver Ben Patterson, and tight end Jermaine Terry.
Cleveland has many more moves to make to hit the roster limit and there will likely be some immediate churning as other players shake free around the league in the coming days.

On paper, before the 2026 college football season kicks off, the Oregon Ducks have the best offense in the Big Ten, better than USC, and maybe the whole sport. Dante Moore is primed to be the first quarterback taken in the upcoming NFL draft, and he has an embarrassment of riches to throw the ball to. The Oregon Ducks' receiver room is completely stacked with versatile weapons in Dakorien Moore, Evan Stewart, and Jeremiah McClellan. The Ducks also have two tight ends who can be better than last year's first-round draft pick, Kenyon Sadiq.
To complement that, Oregon has an elite run game once again. That sounds promising, and Oregon will be headed for offensive dominance. However, the USC Trojans have both a potential elite passing attack and run game.

All eyes were on Buffalo Bills second-year cornerback Maxwell Hairston during the team's preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hairston started at cornerback Thursday night, and there's been plenty of attention paid to his missed tackle in the open field early in action.
To that end, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic shared that head coach Joe Brady gave a very definitive and public vote of confidence in Hairston, stating to reporters that "(h)e's our starting corner" when asked if there's a competition at CB2. That competition query of of course refers to the presence of rookie cornerback Davison Igbinosun.
The question now for One Bills Drive is whether or not they write Hairston's name in pencil or permanent marker. That's something Hairston will have to influence in his second season, and likely hold off any incursion by Igbinosun.
After putting a difficult rookie year behind him that saw his first season bookended by significant injuries, it appeared as though Hairston was setting up to take off in year two. Well, at least that seemed like the plan for as long as Sean McDermott was the head coach.
The trouble for Hairston may have been that McDermott's future at One Bills Drive perished the same night of Buffalo's playoff loss to the Denver Broncos last January. Though that could appear short-sighted when considering that the main person responsible for selecting him in the first round was still in house — Brandon Beane — and received a promotion to include president of football operations within his executive **** le as general manager.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Ty'ray Davis threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and West Florida won its first-ever Division I FCS contest upsetting Southern Illinois 34-31 on Thursday night.
West Florida only started playing football a decade ago, and at the Division II level won the national championship in 2019.
In the season opener for both teams, the Argonauts built a 27-9 and held on against the Salukis, ranked No. 16 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25.
The Salukis scored their first touchdown when Jake Curry connected with Kyle Thomas from 18 yards out. The two-point conversion reduced the deficit to 27-17 with 2:19 left in the third.
Later, after an Argonauts turnover, Curry ran it in from 19 to reduce the deficit to 27-24 with 7:39 remaining.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was introduced from the other end, and even Dhruv Jurel rolled his arm over as the writing was on the cards. India would rue drawing a Test they were in a very good position of winning, squandering the opportunity to bolster their World Test Championship (WTC) final chances.
Sometimes, draws feel like wins and Sri Lanka must have a similar feeling in Colombo. With chips down and backs to the wall, Sonal Dinusha produced a performance for the ages, who had an equally stubborn lower-order for company. He has been the rockstar for the hosts in this series and made India dance to his tunes when he battled for close to two days to eke out a hard-fought draw. The 25-year-old's sequence of scores in the series read 100, 84, 103 and 133*, and across the four innings his compact technique, composure and solid temperament stood out.

Aug 27 (Reuters) - Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh appear at odds over a question at the heart of U.S. financial policy. How hands-off can policymakers be when it comes to setting a price for money?
Warsh has advocated retreating from some of the central bank's longstanding communication policies in favor of letting markets do the heavy lifting, while Bessent has deployed a number of tools, some of them unusual, in the name of aiding market function.
The divide has come into view as the Trump administration steps up efforts to contain long-term borrowing costs — a push whose success appears unlikely to many ****** ysts and portfolio managers without concrete steps to contain the sprawling U.S. fiscal deficit.
That contrast in approaches will come into focus on Friday morning, when Warsh is scheduled to speak at the Fed's annual event in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has warned that the country could find it increasingly difficult to arrange bilateral series with top teams if the national side continues to struggle. Moin, who played 69 Tests and 219 ODIs for Pakistan, also criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the national selectors for the way the cricket system has been handled in recent years.
Moin said Pakistan have struggled across formats, particularly in Test cricket. He fears the situation could get worse if the team's poor results continue.
"We have been struggling in all formats but notably in test matches and if this trend continues I am afraid people will lose interest in Pakistan cricket," Moin said on a podcast.
He warned that Pakistan could slip down the cricketing order and face problems in attracting top teams for bilateral series.
"We might find ourselves relegated to the bottom half of the cricket world finding it difficult to get bilateral series with top teams.
"I blame the frequent changes being made by the board in the cricket system including appointments/removal of captains, coaches, players and the inexplicable calls made by the national selectors.
"Unless you don't have continuity, stability and faith in a captain, coach or players, how can you expect to achieve good results," he said.
Moin said repeated changes in domestic cricket and the national team have affected Pakistan badly. According to him, the uncertainty has also resulted in players losing confidence in the system.
The former wicketkeeper-batter also said the PCB often makes decisions based on the people in power at a particular time rather than following a consistent institutional approach.
"Whenever a chairman and management team is changed you see things change in our cricket system which are not necessarily productive. So where is the stability?," he asked.
Moin also held some of the players responsible for the current situation. He expressed disappointment with the approach of players who, according to him, are not spending enough time improving their skills and cricketing temperament.
"I don't want to harp on the past but to me it seems most players nowadays don't give enough time to developing their skills and cricket temperament. It is more about how much money we can make in leagues rather than setting and reaching personal goals of excellence as a cricketer."
He said financial rewards would follow if a player first focused on performing successfully for the national team.
"When I played we earned in lakhs. Nowadays players earn in crores but players must also remember nothing is greater than playing for your country with success."
Moin said he had given similar advice to his son, Azam Khan, who has played T20 internationals for Pakistan. He said representing the country should take priority over private leagues.

He warned that Pakistan could slip down the cricketing order and face problems in attracting top teams for bilateral series.
"We might find ourselves relegated to the bottom half of the cricket world finding it difficult to get bilateral series with top teams.
"I blame the frequent changes being made by the board in the cricket system including appointments/removal of captains, coaches, players and the inexplicable calls made by the national selectors.
"Unless you don't have continuity, stability and faith in a captain, coach or players, how can you expect to achieve good results," he said.
Moin said repeated changes in domestic cricket and the national team have affected Pakistan badly. According to him, the uncertainty has also resulted in players losing confidence in the system.
The former wicketkeeper-batter also said the PCB often makes decisions based on the people in power at a particular time rather than following a consistent institutional approach.
"Whenever a chairman and management team is changed you see things change in our cricket system which are not necessarily productive. So where is the stability?," he asked.
Moin also held some of the players responsible for the current situation. He expressed disappointment with the approach of players who, according to him, are not spending enough time improving their skills and cricketing temperament.
"I don't want to harp on the past but to me it seems most players nowadays don't give enough time to developing their skills and cricket temperament. It is more about how much money we can make in leagues rather than setting and reaching personal goals of excellence as a cricketer."
He said financial rewards would follow if a player first focused on performing successfully for the national team.
"When I played we earned in lakhs. Nowadays players earn in crores but players must also remember nothing is greater than playing for your country with success."
Moin said he had given similar advice to his son, Azam Khan, who has played T20 internationals for Pakistan. He said representing the country should take priority over private leagues.

Japan's Yayoi Kusama, one of the world's most celebrated contemporary artists, has died aged 97, her company said on Thursday, triggering tributes from around the world.
The "polka dot queen" channelled hallucinations and battles with mental health into vibrant art featuring her trademark dots, nets and infinity motifs over a career spanning decades and continents.
"Throughout an extraordinary lifetime devoted entirely to artistic creation, Kusama pursued an internationally acclaimed career as a pioneering avant-garde artist whose creative practice encompassed visual art, performance, fiction, and poetry," a statement said, announcing her death on August 14.
"She continued to paint until her final days, never setting aside her brush, and continued exploration of forever love and eternal soul," it said.

In the end, Jonathan ***** inga was willing to take less money per year to get back on the market sooner rather than take a longer contract with more guaranteed money.
After intense recruiting from Anthony Edwards and others, ***** inga has agreed to join the Timberwolves on a two-year, $13 million contract, a story broken by Shams Charania of ESPN. ***** inga stepped into the taxpayer mid-level exception the Timberwolves still had available.
This is a recruiting coup for the Timberwolves, who put on a full-court press in the last month, Charania reported. That included Edwards and other players, as well as team president Tim Connelly, who reportedly had a four-hour meeting with him. ***** inga is expected to step into the starting lineup at the three next to LaMelo Ball, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
The Lakers had been pursuing ***** inga to become a starter next to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and they were trying to work out a sign-and-trade with Atlanta, but that would have required ***** inga to sign at least a three-year contract instead of the two in Minnesota. To many, this year's Arizona Cardinals will be in contention for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. They don't really have a set quarterback, much of the roster remains a work in progress, and it sure feels like a lot will be on rookie tailback Jeremiyah Love's shoulders. In other words, many think the 2026 version of the team will be absolutely terrible. By direct contrast, no one is necessarily anointing the Green Bay Packers as a bona fide Super Bowl heavyweight, but they do have playoff-caliber expectations.
At the very least, the green and gold are expected to be solid and relevant well into December.
That's what made the news that the seemingly lowly Cardinals dominated the Packers in two-minute drill sessions during a joint practice on Wednesday kind of surprising. Yes, it's a practice setting where the point is to learn, not to garner perfect results on every repetition.
But still, it's notable that the Cardinals had their way with the Packers, in at least one part of practice, in any fashion. Maybe they're not as bad as some think they are? (OK, they're probably still terrible.)
One of the more notable segments of this practice sequence came on a lovely toe-tap touchdown for Marvin Harrison Jr. It's been tough sledding for Harrison Jr. thus far in his NFL career, particularly from a confidence standpoint, given the greatness many thought would come out of him after his days at Ohio State.

Directors at four Federal Reserve regional banks voted to increase the primary credit rate in the days before the Fed's July meeting, discount rate minutes released Tuesday showed, providing fresh evidence of how divided the central bank was heading into that decision.
The directors of the Cleveland and Minneapolis Fed banks voted on July 16, 2026, and the directors of the Kansas City and Dallas Fed banks voted on July 23, to set the primary credit rate at 4%, a quarter-percentage-point increase from the existing level of 3.75%. The Board of Governors took no action on those requests and approved maintaining the rate at 3.75%.
At the July 28–29 joint meeting of the Board and the Federal Open Market Committee, policymakers voted to keep the federal funds target range at 3.5% to 3.75%. Three FOMC members dissented, according to Reuters. Regional Fed bank directors have no role in setting the federal funds rate and hold no FOMC seats, but they convene regularly with their bank presidents and those presidents say the directors' perspectives inform their own policy thinking.
Notably, Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid lacked a voting seat on the FOMC this year, according to Reuters, so his bank's directors pushed for a rate hike at a meeting where he was unable to cast a dissenting vote himself.
At the July 20 Board meeting — held the week before the FOMC convened — directors at ten Reserve Banks had voted to keep the primary credit rate at its existing level. Only the Cleveland and Minneapolis boards had at that point voted for an increase, and the Board took no action on those requests then either.

The total package consisted of €14 million of a base transfer fee, plus €5 million in potential bonuses for Bayern Munich as had been reported earlier this week:
Midfielder João Palhinha, 31, has joined the Sport Lisboa e Benfica professional soccer team. The Portuguese international is transferring from Bayern Munich to the Glorioso, signing a contract valid through June 30, 2030. The agreement to acquire the player's full rights was finalized for 14 million euros, to which may be added up to a maximum of five million euros, payable based on predefined objectives. The contract includes a buyout clause in the amount of 50 million euros.
Palhinha's move was a long time coming and solved one of the existing roster overflow issues for the Bavarians as the midfielder was not in the plans for head coach Vincent Kompany. There was never a strategy for how to use Palhinha upon his arrival in Bavaria. Now, the 31-year-old will get a chance to revive his career in a comfortable setting.

Aroundtown (ETR:AT1) reported stable first-half operating results for 2026, with rental growth offsetting the impact of ****** et sales, while higher financing costs reduced funds from operations. Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong struggled at the plate in the series opener against the D-backs at Chase Field on Monday night, going 0-for-5. The closest Armstrong came to a hit (potentially an HR) was a deep fly ball to center field, but it was easily caught by the outfielder just before the warning track.
Armstrong, already rounding the bases, had just touched first base when he saw the flyout and, in frustration, slammed his helmet onto the infield dirt track. Dan Clark, an MLB ******* yst and the founder of Dan Clark Sports, known for sharing unbiased opinions on the latest in baseball, criticized Armstrong for his reaction.

Pitcher Tyler Glasnow made his return to the Los Angeles Dodgers, taking the mound for the back-to-back World Series champions on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
He was activated Tuesday after dealing with back spasms since May.
"I like where he is at; he had a good rehab and threw the ball really well," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told SportsNet LA before the road game against the Atlanta Braves. "Seeing him get into the sixth inning is our goal. Our bullpen is in a good spot, and I know Tyler's anxious to get back."
Glasnow allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out seven in five innings pitched.
He quickly got reacquainted with the big-league setting, allowing three runs in the first inning. He settled in, though, and left the game with the score tied at 3.

BEIJING, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Chinese automaker Xpeng said on Monday its robotics unit had raised more than $900 million in its first funding round, setting a new record for a single private financing in China's embodied AI sector.
The funding round, led by IDG Capital and backed by strategic investors Tencent and Alibaba, values the robotics business at more than $6.3 billion, Xpeng said in a statement.
Gaorong Ventures, an early investor in autonomous driving company Momenta and humanoid robot startup AgiBot, also participated in the funding.
The proceeds will be used to develop robotics hardware and software, train and refine physical AI models, collect high-quality data, build end-to-end mass-production facilities, and support global expansion, the company said.
Xpeng has aimed to reach a monthly output of 1,000 units of its IRON humanoid robot by the end of the year, with initial deployments at its retail stores and industrial campuses. Commercial sales and deliveries in China and overseas markets are scheduled to begin in 2027.
