College football, in its purest form, is a remarkable game full of tradition, pageantry and so much fun. At the apex of that purity sits rivalry games. Texas-Oklahoma. Ohio State-Michigan. Iowa-Iowa State. There are generations of tradition and hatred built up among the fanbases and the games just bring more juice.
Tonight marks the 73rd meeting of the Cy-Hawk series, which dates back to 1894. The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series 46-25, officially.
But things have been tight recently. Iowa hasn't officially won this game since 2021 (the 2023 win was vacated) and they haven't won it at home since 2018.
Dating back to 2017, every game in this series has been decided by 10 or fewer points. The Cyclones haven't won this matchup by more than 3 since 2005. The last time either team won by more than 10 in this series was in 2016, when the Hawkeyes emerged victorious 42-3.
This week, we've been exploring the parallels to that 2016 season for this series and there certainly are a few. For starters, that 2016 season marked year one of the Matt Campbell era. Now, 2026 marks year one of the Jimmy Rogers era after Campbell departed for Penn State.

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands didn't just show up at a cattle farm in Veenhuizen this week — she turned it into a runway. Joining King Willem-Alexander for a visit to a dairy operation in the province of Drenthe, Máxima swapped her usual ****** nal of bold colors, oversized volumes and unexpected jewelry for something different: a distinctly autumnal palette. The effect landed somewhere between countryside and cinema — a queen in brown and burgundy, topped with a dramatically tilted wide-brimmed hat and tasseled earrings, standing among cows and calves.

In true Máxima fashion, there was room for a laugh amid the pageantry. One of the farm's calves had been born just minutes before the royal couple arrived, and Máxima was given the honor of naming it. Her options: Wilhelmina or Máxima. "Then, Máxima," she said, laughing.
The queen's midi-length brown dress leaned into a silhouette tailor-made for the shift into fall weather. A round neckline left room for a subtle, elegant hint of décolletage, while the sleeves — constructed in small cape-like layers — gave the whole look a sense of movement with every step.
The most flattering detail sat at the waist, where gentle gathering pulled the fabric in just enough to define her shape before letting the skirt fall freely. The dress needed no further embellishment: between the sleeve volume and the cape's motion, it carried plenty of presence on its own.

Last week, just days before she was crowned the 99th Miss America, the then-Miss Texas **** leholder told PEOPLE about a question she had been asked during preliminary competition rounds about wearing her natural hair as a pageant contestant.
"When I first started [competing], I didn't know what I was going to do with my hair," said Hutsell. "I didn't know if I was going to straighten it, I didn't know if I was going to wear it natural. I had straightened my hair a few years ago, and it didn't bounce back. And coming to this point in my life where I decided, no, I'm going to wear it curly; I'm going to wear it as is.
Wearing her natural hair while competing throughout her pageant career had helped Hutsell redefine what beauty meant for her.

Katie Taylor will fight for the final time today, saying goodbye to boxing in front of 80,000 fans at Dublin's Croke Park, in a main event against Flora Pili for the super lightweight undisputed championship.
Taylor's farewell promises to be an emotional night of pageantry and richly-deserved praise, and she'll hope it ends with becoming a three-time undisputed world champion.
Patrick Stumberg will lead the call today for us, with round-by-round updates for the main event, and fight-by-fight updates and results for the undercard. Join us!
Time: 0:36
Post-Fight Thoughts: Phenomenal performance from Bevan (10-0, 9 KO) against former Olympian Brennan (6-1, 1 KO). They spent virtually the entire fight forehead to forehead, with Bevan's superior sharpness, output, and power keeping him in the driver's seat throughout. Tons of potential at just 25; he's got the shot selection and overall composure of a mature, complete fighter. Gutting for Brennan, who never gave up but just found himself completely outgunned and let down by his corner.

Preparing to take the stage representing Ethiopia at the Miss World pageant, Ruth Yirgalem Weldesilasie thinks of her sister, who was abducted and murdered ahead of the contest.
"I'm going to change my pain to my purpose," the 25-year-old told AFP in Vietnam's coastal Nha Trang city, as 111 contestants gathered for the Saturday night pageant finale.
This summer, Ruth's 29-year-old elder sister Kidusan Yirgalem Weldesilasie was kidnapped for ransom -- disappearing from her side as she prepared for the global beauty contest.
Kidusan was discovered dead, her remains split between two suitcases, in late July. Ruth's best friend of a decade and her best friend's boyfriend are among 10 suspects who have been arrested, she said.
Violence against women and girls is endemic in Ethiopia's deeply patriarchal society.

Miss Georgia Sophia Wootten, born with a cleft and craniofacial differences, underwent 20 surgeries over 20 years and will compete on the Miss America stage on Sept. 6
Through musical theater and singing, the pageant queen found her voice; now she advocates for cleft care as Miss Georgia

When Sophia Wootten was two years old, her parents were told that she might never speak clearly.

"[My parents were told] I might as well be put in a school for the deaf because that is where I would belong the best at that point," she tells PEOPLE.
At a young age, Wootten started speech therapy. Admittedly, she recalls being a "little bored" with the process. So her parents put her in voice lessons instead.
"Through it all, I fell in love with musical theater. I learned how to tell stories, but not necessarily my own," she says.

Miss USA has crowned its 2026 winner.
After a tight race at this year's annual pageant, Miss Virginia Justus Kelley was bestowed the Miss USA honor on Thursday, Aug. 27, in Miami.
Last year's Miss USA winner, Nebraska's Audrey Eckert, passed the crown to Kelley, who celebrated her win with a spin on the pageant stage as she showed off her bouquet and sparkling tiara. Moments before a winner was declared, Eckert concluded her reign with two accidental tumbles on stage, prompting a standing ovation from the crowd.
Miss Florida Aileen Cerchiara was the first runner-up and will take Kelley's place in the Miss Universe pageant if she is unable to.
Kelley's win was notably special this year as the Miss USA organization also celebrated its 75th Diamond Anniversary with a corresponding "75 Years of Icons" pageant theme.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, the organization hosted the 75th edition of the national pageant, where 50 contestants competed for the **** le at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. This year, the pageant was themed "75 Years of Icons" in honor of the pageant's historic year.
Justus Kelley, 31, who was Miss Virginia USA 2026, took home the **** le, with last year's winner, Audrey Eckert, 24, bestowing the crown on her successor. Kelley's win is historic, as she will be the first-ever mother to hold the Miss USA **** le, following the organization's rule changes in 2023, which saw the end of the age cap on contestants and permitted contestants who are mothers. Kelley will also be the first married woman to ever hold the **** le of Miss USA as well.
The pageant celebrated the women of Miss USA, who have held crowns for the past 75 years. Just before the **** le was announced, the pageant invited legacy queens to the stage to be thanked for representing the crown over the last five years.

Amber Uhler survived a childhood drowning and now advocates for water safety through education and prevention efforts
She tells PEOPLE about a harrowing experience that prompted her to get CPR-certified and educated on water safety matters
Uhler created a "Water Watcher" card to help adults stay focused on supervising children around water
When Amber Uhler was five years old, she got away from her father during a family fishing trip and fell into a nearby lake. She remembers sinking beneath the waves and the "murky green water" as she fell farther and farther into the lake's depths.
She calls it her first "cinematic memory," speaking exclusively with PEOPLE. "The last thought I had before I went unconscious was that my dad's going to be so mad because I didn't do what he said."
Uhler was lucky that her brother saw her dropping beneath the waves from about 30 yards away, and he was able to find her in the cloudy lake water.
"I'm so highly aware that that is not the usual ending to that story," she says.
Uhler will represent the pageant on Aug. 27.

When Miss USA 2025 Audrey Eckert accepted her crown, she signed on not only to represent the organization but to represent the entire country.
Last year, Eckert was crowned by the then-reigning Miss Universe ******* leholder Victoria Kjær Theilvig on Oct. 24, 2025. Since then, she has spent the past year traveling the country, representing the organization and the country at appearances as part of her duties as the pageant queen.
For Eckert, who has been competing in pageants since she was nine years old, the win was the realization of a dream for the young ******* leholder. In 2020, she won Miss Nebraska Teen and placed third runner-up at the Miss Teen USA competition in the same year.
During her time as one of the more than 80 women to hold the prestigious Miss USA ******* le, Eckert has attended events like the Oscars, made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival, and more.
Speaking with PEOPLE as her reign draws to a close, the current pageant ******* leholder breaks down the lesser-known facets of what it takes to be the leading lady of the national pageant that those unfamiliar with the pageant might not know.

Eckert tells PEOPLE that one thing outsiders might not understand about holding ******* les like Miss USA, Miss Teen USA or even Miss Universe is that the women spend "a lot of time on the road traveling."
While travel days can be long, Eckert says the women are expected to "maintain" their appearances — to always "look the part" of Miss USA.
"You're traveling across the world trying to get workouts in, get your nails done, get your hair done, all those tactical things," she explains. "People don't always think of the logistics of it."
She admits that it can be hard, appearing in back-to-back appearances and travel days, but that she is aware she must always show up as the pageant queen she was elected to be, no matter what.

Amber Uhler spent years transforming her own life after a health wake-up call. Now, she is stepping onto the Miss USA stage to show that a crown can represent much more than a competition.
For years, pageants have often been reduced to a familiar image: the evening gown, the crown, the final question, and the winner's wave. But contestants like Amber Uhler show that the most meaningful parts of a pageant journey often happen long before the stage lights come on.
At 41, the Miss Michigan USA 2026 ***** leholder is the oldest contestant competing in this year's Miss USA field. She also brings a personal transformation story, telling PEOPLE that she once weighed nearly 300 pounds and later lost 170 pounds through diet and exercise.
But Uhler's journey is not defined by a number on a scale alone. Her path to the competition has included previous pageant victories, a major life change, and advocacy work focused on swim safety and childhood drowning prevention.
She is not simply competing for a ***** le. She brings years of experience, personal growth, and a story that reflects how pageants keep evolving.

Cameron Mathison has put a fresh face on his personal life. The General Hospital star is dating Taelyr Robinson, a model, former pageant winner, and podcast host who has gradually moved from appearing alongside him online to openly celebrating their relationship.
Taelyr Robinson brings plenty to the table beyond her connection to Mathison. She won Miss Maryland USA in 2020 and competed at Miss USA that same year. Her modeling résumé includes campaigns for Target, CoverGirl, Bobbi Brown, Tarte Cosmetics, and Lilly Pulitzer. She was also a yoga instructor and co-hosts The Becoming Club, a podcast about personal development (via Soap Opera Digest).
The pair had already been spending time together before making things unmistakably official. During a June episode of The Becoming Club, Mathison revealed, "We've been talking for a while now."
He appeared on Robinson's podcast to discuss divorce, losing his mother and his home during the 2025 California wildfires. In July, they separately posted images from a Grand Canyon trip, while Mathison later appeared with her in an August 17 Instagram carousel from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Robinson turned the romance up another notch on Mathison's 57th birthday. On August 25, she posted affectionate pictures and called him "my love," while a video showed the couple embracing and giving each other a warm kiss. Mathison reposted her tribute on Instagram Stories. Robinson also shared a now-expired Instagram clip from his car, joking about heading to the General Hospital set with the "infamous" Drew.

Miss Michigan USA Amber Uhler began her pageant journey nearly five years ago, when she set her goal to compete in a beauty pageant
Uhler, at the time, had reservations about the goal, as she weighed nearly 300 lbs. at the time
However, speaking with PEOPLE, she opens up about the moment she realized she wanted to prioritize her health and how her pageant dreams helped her achieve that goal
Five years ago, Amber Uhler set what, back then, seemed like an "impossible" goal.
At the time, Uhler, a mom to three, weighed 300 lbs. She tells PEOPLE of attending a doctor's appointment, where she was told, "You're morbidly obese, you're pre-diabetic, you're on a path to an early grave, and you're probably not going to live to see your kids graduate high school."
For Uhler, that appointment set in motion what she calls the "wakeup call" she "needed."
That same weekend, Uhler opens up about the moment she jumped into a foam pit at a trampoline park while playing with her children. "I got stuck, and ****** ody could get me out," she says. "Three big, beefy muscle men formed a human chain to try to pull me out, and even they couldn't do it, and they thought they were going to have to call the fire department. I've never been so humiliated in my life."

Miss USA and Miss America are often confused, but the pageants are quite different.
Women aged 18 to 28 can compete in Miss America. All women 18 and over can now compete at Miss USA.
Miss USA has a swimsuit round, which Miss America got rid of in 2018.
Do you know the difference between Miss USA and Miss America?
They're the two biggest pageants in the country, and both involve a sash and crown. But that's where most of their similarities end.

Former Miss North Carolina USA Brittany Boltinhouse filed a defamation lawsuit against pageant organizers after the Miss USA organization stripped her of her **** le earlier this month, alleging they tried to portray her as a racist and targeted her because she is a "conservative Christian."
While the Aug. 5 announcement of the decision from Miss USA Chairman and CEO Thom Brodeur did not specify the conduct Boltinhouse was alleged to have committed, the statement said in part that the organization "does not tolerate racism, **** phobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity."
The suit, filed Sunday in Duplin County, North Carolina, Superior Court, alleges that the pageant organizers were "maliciously coordinating to publish a false public narrative portraying Brittany Boltinhouse as a racist, **** phobe, transphobe and intolerable bigot to be shunned from public life," largely based on social media posts.

The defendants "then lied to the world that Brittany had confessed to being such an intolerant monster," the suit claims.
