The AI industry's talent war has pushed salaries to extraordinary heights, with companies offering compensation packages that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. According to Axios, the trend is worrying Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who reportedly expressed concern about new talent coming to the company for the money rather than the mission.
The comments may be seen as ironic coming from Amodei, considering Anthropic offers some eye-watering salaries for jobs that typically pay much less. Take a job posting for a brand marketing events lead at the company, which lists an annual salary ranging from $320,000 to $400,000.

Semiconductor stocks have been pummeled recently, opening up a nice potential opportunity to buy these stocks while they are down. However, not all semiconductor stocks are created equal, so investors should be selective.
Let's look at one chip stock I'd buy, one I'd continue to hold, and one I'd sell.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
If there is one chip stock to buy in this sell-off, it's Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). Not only is the company the AI infrastructure leader, but its stock is also incredibly cheap and continues to grow rapidly.
Nvidia's biggest advantage is that it has created a wide moat with its CUDA software platform for AI model training. It is the dominant player in the **** e because, many years ago, it planted CUDA in places doing early AI research, making its proprietary software the main platform where most original AI code was written. But this wasn't the only prescient move Nvidia has made over the years; its 2020 acquisition of Mellanox laid the foundation for its networking platform.

The market isn't hiding its feelings about Meta (META) as it heads to its earnings report after the close today.
Investors are selling first and asking questions later.
Meta stock has now declined for nine straight days, the longest losing streak in its history. The steady march lower has sent Meta shares below all key technical moving averages, per Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
When Meta (META) reports its second quarter earnings, all eyes will be on its capital expenditures plan for the rest of the year and in 2027.
This area of Meta's cash flow statement garners the most attention — not just because Alphabet (GOOGL) spooked its investor base last week by warning it intends to spend way more than expected but also because Meta's stock price has been dead money for more than a year (as seen above).

Africa went against the grain of falling global beer production in 2025, data compiled by major hop supplier BarthHaas shows.
In a report issued by BarthHaas yesterday (21 July), BarthHaas said output fell 0.7% last year to just below 1.9bn hectolitres.
Production in each of Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania declined in 2025, although more beer was brewed in Africa, BarthHaas said.
Output in Africa, boosted by production in South Africa, grew 2.6% to 166.7 million hectolitres (mhl).
The picture across the Americas was mixed, with output in North America down 1.9% but rising in Central and South America by 1.3% and 1.7% respectively, the data showed.

Interested in iShares MSCI South Korea ETF? Here are five stocks we like better.
South Korea and Taiwan have been the world's best-performing stock markets in 2026, driven by AI-related demand for chips and memory.
The iShares MSCI South Korea ETF has surged over 70% and the iShares MSCI Taiwan ETF has gained near 50%, fueled by memory makers and TSMC.
Investors should monitor hyperscaler CapEx spending, memory chip margins, China-Taiwan tensions, and the shrinking premium on SK hynix's American depositary receipts.
The performance of the U.S. stock market has been solid so far in 2026. After being down as much as 7% through late March, the S&P 500 Index has rebounded sharply. Overall, the index's total return on the year sits near 10%. From 2015 to 2025, the index's average annual return was approximately 14.5%. Thus, the S&P 500 will need a strong back half of the year to meet or eclipse this figure.

Praetorian Capital, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter of 2026, the Praetorian Capital Fund LLC (the "Fund") depreciated by 4.39% net of fees. The firm anticipates significant volatility from quarter to quarter due to the Fund's concentrated portfolio approach and emphasis on asymmetric opportunities. Both the Event-Driven book and the fund's core portfolio declined moderately in the quarter. The letter highlighted the market's complexity and noted a setback in the portfolio this quarter despite strong first-quarter earnings. Conversely, the letter also noted that the AI buildout represented a substantial capital misallocation. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Praetorian Capital highlighted Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC). Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC) is a US based career-oriented postsecondary education services provider to high school graduates and working adults. On July 17, 2026, Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC) closed at $42.95 per share. One-month return of Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC) was -11.90%, and its shares gained 90.53% over the past 52 weeks. Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC) has a market capitalization of $1.38 billion.
Praetorian Capital stated the following regarding Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Technical Colleges; Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ:LINC) and Universal Technical Institute (UTI – USA): These two technical colleges are helping to train the next generation of skilled tradespeople and medical workers. As AI reduces the demand for office workers, many millions of existing workers must be reskilled, while high school graduates will naturally seek out better job opportunities that offer higher wages, with less career risk.
LINC and UTI are the two largest technical colleges in the US. I expect them to continue opening new campuses and growing student counts. Based on management guidance, they're both quite cheap looking out a few years, net of startup costs for new campuses. I think they'll dramatically overshoot guidance in terms of new student starts, utilization and recruitment costs, leading to substantial margin growth on relatively fixed-cost structures."

As Warren Buffett once said, "There seems to be some perverse human characteristic that likes to make easy things difficult."

The company is making a big bet on professional contractors just as its core DIY customer is pulling back, creating a new kind of vulnerability.
If you hold Home Depot (HD) stock, you already know it's been a tough year. The shares have been under pressure, lagging the broader market significantly over the past 12 months with a decline of -6%. The options market is signaling that this uncertainty isn't going away, with implied volatility in the 72nd percentile of its annual range, a sign that traders are bracing for larger-than-usual price swings.
The market is pricing in a slowdown. The real question is whether the nature of that slowdown is changing. Home Depot is navigating a deliberate, high-stakes pivot toward professional customers at the exact moment its traditional DIY base is showing signs of fatigue, creating a delicate balancing act.
When Big Projects Go On Hold
The most immediate drag on Home Depot's results is clear: homeowners are thinking twice about major renovations. Management stated directly that "larger discretionary projects remain under pressure." This isn't a minor issue. While the company managed to post a small 0.6% increase in comparable sales last quarter, the hesitation on big-ticket items puts a hard ceiling on growth. These large, multi-item purchases are the engine of both revenue and profit. When a consumer facing "housing affordability pressure" decides to repaint a room instead of redoing a kitchen, it directly impacts sales totals and the bottom line. The core of Home Depot's business depends on homeowner confidence, and right now, that confidence is being tested.

Consumers fear price increases aren't abating anytime soon.
Median inflation expectations for the year ahead rose in June to 3.7%, according to the New York Fed's June survey of consumer expectations. That's the highest since September 2023, when the economy was recovering from a brutal surge in prices the previous year.
Expectations for inflation over the next three years also climbed to 3.3%, the most since June 2022, when inflation peaked at a 40-year high of 9.1%.
As for where they see those price increases hitting, consumers anticipate big swings coming for healthcare and rent, with medical costs surging 9.4% and rent growing 8.3% in the next year. They were most sanguine about gas costs: Consumers' price change expectations for fuel dipped to the lowest level since August 2022. Respondents also felt smaller price hikes were ahead for food and college education.
While the average rental price in the US is currently tracking below last year's levels when looking across all property types, reaching $2,014 as of July 5, according to Zillow, some markets are seeing strain. Average rents are up compared to a year ago in Chicago, for example.

Dutch prosecutors are trying to force a collapsed crypto platform into bankruptcy to protect tens of thousands of customers locked out of their money.
The Public Prosecution Service asked a court in Rotterdam to declare Knaken Cryptohandel and an affiliated entity, Stichting Knaken Payments, bankrupt, calling the move in "the public interest." Knaken has been offline since early June, leaving an estimated 30,000 customers unable to reach their holdings.
The platform let users swap euros for cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as trade, and store digital ****** ets, activities that require a license from the Dutch markets regulator, the AFM, under the EU's crypto rules. Knaken never obtained one.
The company says it has halted operations and is winding down, but prosecutors said they are "very concerned" the process isn't orderly. Knaken has stopped paying customers out and has reportedly told them not to file damage claims.
Acting on warnings from the AFM, prosecutors used their civil power to seek a company's bankruptcy in the public interest. If the court agrees, a court-appointed trustee would take over Knaken's ****** ets and decide what can be returned to customers and other creditors. The prosecution service said it plays no part in how a trustee handles that process.

Rare-earth metals are in short supply, and most of that supply is controlled by China. Because of the vital role these metals play in the technology sector, companies like MP Materials (NYSE: MP) and TMC The Metals Company (NASDAQ: TMC) are seeking to capitalize on the unusual supply and-demand dynamics and build rare-earth metals businesses. For most investors, MP Materials will be the safer bet. Here's why.
China has repeatedly shown its willingness to use access to rare-earth metals as a geopolitical bargaining chip. Supply concerns have led companies that you might not expect to warn of production delays, for example, automakers. However, rare-earth metals play a vital role in everything from your cellphone to missile defense systems. Countries don't want to be beholden to China for their self-defense needs.

The issue is so important that the U.S. government has provided financial support to rare-earth metal companies as they expand their operations. MP Materials is one such firm. However, this isn't the only way that the United States has been supporting the sector, as it has also made regulatory changes to ease the way for companies like The Metals Company to further their development efforts.
As an investor, however, there is a dramatic difference between MP Materials and The Metals Company. Even if both companies eventually end up big winners, The Metals Company is a much riskier bet right now.
