SAKS — Childersburg capped a remarkable turnaround Thursday night, defeating Saks 35-7 at Jack Stewart Field to close the season with a winning record.
After going 0-10 in head coach Matt Zedaker's first season in charge of the program, the Tigers improved to 6-4 this year, narrowly missing the playoffs.
"A great way to go out right here with six wins from zero wins last year," Zedaker said. "We're on an uphill ascend."
The bounce-back season would not have been possible without contributions from seniors like JaMarion Davis. In his final game in a Childersburg uniform, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound quarterback accounted for four of the Tigers' five touchdowns.
Davis scored on runs of 15 and 13 yards and threw touchdown passes of 37 yards to J'Kolby Thomas and 56 yards to Tristan Powell.

NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets are just four games into their 2026-27 NBA season that they hope will be better than what they put forth during the 2025-26 campaign record-wise. Brooklyn has been trying to correct enough of their issues to hopefully win their first game of the season sooner than later, but the Nets made sure to take care of business with some of their youngest players.
The Nets announced on Thursday that they exercised the third-year team options for their entire 2025 NBA Draft class heading into Friday's NBA Cup game against the visiting Detroit Pistons. Brooklyn selected five players in the 2025 draft: guard Egor Demin, guard Nolan Traore, forward Drake Powell, guard Ben Saraf, and forward Danny Wolf and now, the quintet is under contract for the 2027-28 season.
"We brought them in for a reason. Obviously, picking up options is part of the management, but [it's] the belief on development and the type of people that we bring in," Fernandez said after Thursday's practice about the franchise's announcement. Brooklyn exercising the team options on the entire class was interesting given that only Demin and Traore have been seeing regular rotation minutes at this point in the season.
"We've been together for a little over a year and we believe that every single one of them has a future in this league. Everybody's got different paths to get there and that's okay. But, so far, I think that just proves that we believe in the process," Fernandez continued. While Demin and Traore have proven enough to see NBA minutes on a daily basis, Powell, Saraf, and Wolf will have to continue doing the work in the G League and in practice.
Demin will be out of action for the next week while he rehabs from a right leg bone bruise that he suffered in Tuesday's 125-124 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics, but Traore could just be hitting his stride. Traore entered the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Celtics and if he continues to produce, he and Demin could be starting together once the former BYU Cougar returns. With that being said, the entire "Flatbush Five" will be in Brooklyn next season.

It's been a year of historic change on Wall Street. We've witnessed the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, retire as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRKA)(NYSE:BRKB), stood in awe at the largest-ever initial public offering, and watched the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) launch to several record highs.
But the biggest change of all has been the swearing in of a new Fed chair. On May 22, President Donald Trump's handpicked successor to Jerome Powell, Kevin Warsh, became only the 17th head of the central bank.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 14x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our **** ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

In the end, Kevin Warsh's Federal Reserve acquitted itself well. For all the uncertainty he had sparked at the previous meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, when he refused to provide any indication of what he was prepared to do to tame stubborn inflation, the chair on Wednesday presided over a unanimous decision to raise interest rates for the first time in three years.
"Today's action starts to show that we're serious about this," he said at the press conference after the meeting, with "this" meaning inflation in excess of the Fed's 2% target for over five years. Welcome though it was, his embrace of economic orthodoxy nonetheless did little to dispel the Keystone Cops quality of governance in Donald Trump's US.
Warsh's resolve – raising rates just a few weeks before elections that will determine whether Republicans retain control of Congress – appeared even more resolute in the face of a veiled threat from White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett, who pointed out to his chums on Fox that "if you want an independent Fed, then one thing the Fed does is it stays out of the way of elections".
The central bankers' parsimonious comments in the press conference following the meeting made a sharp contrast with the more unhinged commentary from other members of the administration, including the president himself, who earlier this month celebrated the resilience of the labor market with a mind-boggling threat to "STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT" unless the Fed cut interest rates.
Trump has yet to turn on Warsh in the way he did on his predecessor, Jerome "numbskull" Powell. But the signs are ominous. After the rate hike, Trump went ballistic – spewing more of the random, incoherent thoughts that have become his trademark. "Interest Rates in the United States should be 1%, or less, because we are the Best Credit in the World," he wrote on social media, despite recalcitrant inflation and a budget deficit that is likely to exceed $2tn this year. He again demanded the powers that be to "LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST!"

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has revealed himself. If not a card-carrying monetarist, he is at least a camp follower. This represents a dramatic change at the Fed, where the past Chairman Jerome Powell repeatedly rejected the basic tenets of monetarism.
This is a welcomed earthquake. After all, there are almost no monetarists left in the world (except for us, and we've been fighting a lonely rearguard action for over 40 years). The Federal Reserve has rejected monetarism consistently — and on the record — because it preferred other models for understanding the economy. In academia, monetarism has been out of fashion for decades. But by his own words, a monetarist is now leading the central bank.
Just what is monetarism? It's a doctrine which holds that money has a major influence on both the level of ***** et prices, economic activity, and the price level. Any discussion of national income determination must, therefore, center on the quantity of money and the banking system, since banks produce most of the money in modern economies. When it comes to monetary policy, its objectives are best met by targeting the rate of growth of the money supply.
Today, most economists pooh-pooh monetarism. Money and banking are nowhere to be found in their macroeconomic models, or their discourses about the course of ***** et prices, economic activity, and prices. Indeed, their forecasting exercises are typically based on elaborations of Keynesian income-expenditure models that exclude money and banking.
If that's not enough, we think that the Fed's backroom staff, mostly Keynesian-leaning Democrats, don't want alignment with a philosophy usually affiliated with Milton Friedman, but that's another story. Just look at what Joe Biden said in 2020 about how the dean of monetarism wasn't "running the show anymore."

Stocks slid Wednesday afternoon after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh followed the central bank's first rate hike in three years with a press conference that hinted it wouldn't be the last.
The S&P 500 dropped 1%, heading toward its lowest close since July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.7%, or more than 700 points, with financial shares leading the decline. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.8%. The 10-year Treasury yield held near 5% a day after touching its highest level since 2007, and the dollar index climbed 0.6% to its strongest since late July.
Markets had priced in the quarter-point increase itself and initially took it in stride. All three indexes were higher before the 2 p.m. decision. The selling started during the press conference.
Warsh was on a tightrope going in. The question was whether he'd frame the hike as a one-off adjustment—which risked the bond market reading it as too little to deter inflation—or as the start of a longer cycle. He did neither, and instead went in a more hawkish direction. "I would be hard pressed to describe broad financial conditions as restrictive," he said in his opening remarks. "This view was widely shared by the committee, so we removed a dose of accommodation."
That's a new way of describing a rate hike, and one investors aren't used to. Under his predecessor, Jerome Powell, the Fed called policy "modestly restrictive," meaning rates were already high enough to slow the economy. Warsh was saying that at 3.5%–3.75%, they weren't—and by implication, one quarter point may not have gotten them there either. Asked directly, he declined to say whether policy is restrictive now.

The Federal Reserve voted to raise interest rates by 25 basis points on Wednesday to a range of 3.75%-4% amid persistently high inflation. The decision was unanimous.
The median Fed official expects one more rate hike this year, according to the central bank's Summary of Economic Projections, also known as the dot plot.
The move was the Fed's first increase in the fed funds rate since 2023, when the Jerome Powell-led central bank concluded its post-pandemic hiking campaign. It was also largely priced in by the market, even as Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh has been adamant about not providing markets with forward guidance.

Stocks were little changed when the decision was first announced but turned lower during Warsh's brief press conference.

"I am the house now," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told traders last week, as he defended the administration's increasingly interventionist approach to the bond market. He added that he had "asymmetric information" about what policymakers would do next and dared investors: "bet against me if you want."
On Wednesday, Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh might effectively take the other side of the bet.
It's been a hot American summer. Oil is hot, hovering around $110 a barrel. Bond yields are hot, too: the 10-year Treasury yield has pushed above 5%, around its highest level since 2007. Credit markets are running hot as well: U.S.-dollar debt issuance to finance AI and data-center development reached $308 billion through July. And all that borrowing is competing with U.S. national debt, which crossed $40 trillion less than a month ago. Stocks, despite a rough few days, are still up roughly 11% this year. Inflation, meanwhile, remains above 3%.
Put all that heat together, and the Federal Reserve is staring down a question it hasn't seriously confronted in three years: Is the U.S. economy actually overheating? Markets are betting the Fed thinks the answer is at least "maybe." Traders have priced a quarter-point hike Wednesday with near certainty.
But whether Wednesday amounts to a one-time course correction or the beginning of a new tightening cycle depends on what, exactly, is making the American economy hot. The last time the Fed began raising rates, in March 2022, Jerome Powell's Fed ultimately raised its benchmark rate by 525 basis points over 16 months.
Mohamed El-Erian, Wharton professor of practice and chief economic adviser at Allianz, parsed the current fervor and anxiety into four questions on X Tuesday: whether oil-supply disruptions persist, with China potentially acting as a "swing consumer"; whether Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent intervenes again to influence long-end yields; whether this week's hike proves "one and done" or the beginning of a cycle; and how markets balance AI's enormous promise against its enormous risks.

The Federal Reserve's September policy meeting kicked off Tuesday morning, and markets overwhelmingly expect the Fed to raise interest rates by 25 basis points on Wednesday amid persistently high inflation.
Such a move would mark the Fed's first increase in the fed funds rate since 2023, when the Jerome Powell-led central bank concluded its post-pandemic hiking campaign. However, inflation has now remained above the Fed's 2% target for more than five years, with the war in the Middle East serving as the latest driver of higher prices.
As Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh said in his Jackson Hole Symposium speech in August, "We have work to do."
Still, a hold isn't entirely off the table — even as traders price in a 92% chance of a Fed rate hike, according to CME Group's FedWatch tool. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh has been adamant about not providing markets with forward guidance on interest rate decisions, preferring that officials have a "good family fight" over the data at FOMC meetings.
In addition to the intrigue over whether the Fed will hike rates, markets will closely scrutinize the Fed's Summary of Economic Projections, the so-called dot plot, for clues about monetary policy in the next few years.

The stars weren't out in the night sky just yet Saturday at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, but there were some sightings on the sidelines.
In one of the biggest Texas football games of the season against Ohio State, celebrities, politicians and Texas Exes came to Austin and were spotted throughout the sidelines. Earlier in the day, ESPN "College GameDay" featured Sen. Ted Cruz, who was booed by the Longhorn faithful and Austin native; movie star Glen Powell as the guest picker on the show.

Of course, other Austin celebrities were out and about - what is a night game at DKR without Longhorn superfan Matthew McConaughey. He also brought out his friend and "True Detective" co-star Woody Harrelson who was seen chatting with athletic director Chris Del Conte. Gov. Greg Abbott was there, too.
Then there were the sports legends of the school in attendance. Former men's basketball player and current Houston Rocket Kevin Durant was seen throwing crisp spirals and chatting with former football head coach Mack Brown. Former running back Ricky Williams and quarterback Colt McCoy were also spotted as well as former Texas volleyball player Madisen Skinner.

High school basketball stars want to come play for Michael Malone. The UNC head men's basketball coach landed a 3-man recruiting class for his 2026-27 roster, but there's even greater excitement in North Carolina's 2027 recruiting class.
The Tar Heels are hosting top overall recruit CJ Rosser this weekend. Earlier this week, UNC target Darius Wabbington canceled his visit to Louisville, meaning Chapel Hill is now in his final five destinations.
Just when you thought North Carolina's recruiting trail couldn't get any better, 5-star wing Jordan Page announced he'll also be visiting campus this weekend.

ESPN's "College GameDay" was back last weekend for Lane Kiffin's LSU debut, and in Week 2, it will air live from one of the most anticipated regular-season games of the 2026 season. GameDay will be at Ohio State vs. Texas in Austin, Texas.
GameDay starts at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN and runs until noon on Saturday, Sept. 12. The crew consisting of Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban and Pat McAfee will have their game picks and all the Week 2 ****** ysis.
In recent years, GameDay has been criticized for prioritizing SEC games over traveling across the country to showcase other college game-day atmospheres. This week, however, GameDay did not mess around, selecting the marquee matchup of the week between the Longhorns and Buckeyes. Other options included Kentucky hosting Alabama and Oklahoma at Michigan, but even those aren't top-4 battles like Texas-Ohio State.
Actor Glenn Powell, who completed his undergraduate degree at Texas, will be the celebrity guest picker.
The show also already announced that it will attend the LSU at Ole Miss game in Week 3.

On May 22, the Federal Reserve entered a new era, with President Donald Trump's handpicked successor to Jerome Powell, Kevin Warsh, sworn in as the 17th Fed chair. It also marked a period of uncertainty amid this transition for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC).
Warsh has wasted little time setting a new tone as head of the central bank. He's done away with forward-looking guidance in Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting statements and declared "the Fed's predominant focus right now should be on prices."
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has declared that the FOMC will deliver price stability. Image source: Official Federal Reserve Photo.
Though FOMC policymakers are bound to uphold the dual mandate of maximum employment and price stability, the latter is of far greater importance at the moment. Trailing 12-month inflation reached a three-year high of 4.2% in May, driven primarily by Trumpflation vis-à-vis tariffs and the Iran war.

This has been a history-packed year for Wall Street, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) romping to new highs, and the largest-ever initial public offering taking shape. But the swearing in of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh on May 22 arguably takes the cake.
Jerome Powell's successor vowed to lead a reform-oriented central bank and hasn't veered from that promise over the last three months. Since taking the reins, Warsh has shelved forward-looking guidance from Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting statements and commissioned five task forces to aid the Fed in its conduct of monetary policy.

Fed Chair Warsh just served up an inflation ultimatum for Wall Street. Image source: Official Federal Reserve Photo.
But the biggest task at hand for Warsh and the FOMC is tackling persistently high inflation. While delivering his first annual speech at the Jackson Hole economic symposium on Aug. 28, the new Fed chair completely shifted the central bank's entire focus on inflation in one sentence.

Investors have been privy to several history-making moments this year, including record highs for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC), and the largest-ever initial public offering in Wall Street's history.
However, the biggest milestone of all might be the swearing-in of Kevin Warsh on May 22 as just the 17th head of the central bank.

But President Donald Trump's handpicked successor to Jerome Powell became Fed chair at one of the most challenging times throughout history. The trailing 12-month inflation rate reached a three-year high of 4.2% in May, putting Warsh on a similar collision course with Trump over interest rates that his predecessor, Powell, often found himself on.
Thus far, President Trump has given Warsh a pass on direct criticism -- but the same can't be said of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).

Following his first mini-camp with his new Lakers teammates, star point guard Luka Doncic is feeling good about the future. While there is still a lot of work ahead for his team, the vibes are overall positive heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
Even so, the Lakers may not be done changing and tweaking the roster. According to the latest intel, veteran big man Dwight Powell is the best choice remaining in free agency, and he's reportedly being considered as a final addition to the Purple and Gold.
"The most significant option for the Lakers could be Dwight Powell, the 6-10, 35-year-old big man who was teammates with Doncic for 6 ½ seasons in Dallas," wrote Khobi Price. "Notably, Powell has played the most games as a teammate alongside Doncic (389) among the 98 players Doncic has played alongside in his eight-year NBA career."
The Lakers have been considering another move for a while now, but they don't have many **** ets to spare. That's why, at this point, the free agent market is the best place where they can find their ideal role player on a minimum salary.
With 16 total players on the roster, the Lakers would need to make room to add Powell, but there are several ways they could do it without breaking up their current core. One option is to straight up release players like Dalton Knecht or Bronny James. Alternatively, they could trade for someone like Jaden Hardy and/or Jake LaRavia in exchange for picks. The question is, is Powell the right man to pursue?

The Eastern Conference is stacked right now following all the massive changes that happened this summer. The Chicago Bulls may not be part of the conversation, but Josh Giddey wants them to be.
The Bulls underwent changes of their own, and it started before the February trade deadline. They traded Coby White to the Charlotte Hornets and Ayo Dosunmu to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
They failed to make the playoffs and quickly got to work this summer, starting with the hiring of Tiago Splitter as their new head coach. Splitter replaced Billy Donovan, who had been with the team for six seasons.
The Bulls selected Caleb Wilson with the No. 4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and later landed Norman Powell in free agency.
They don't have marquee signings like the Philadelphia 76ers, who acquired Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, or the Miami Heat, who traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. Still, Giddey believes the Bulls are capable of surprising people.

The Brooklyn Nets came into the 2026 NBA offseason with the goal of improving the team as much as possible following a 2025-26 campaign in which they finished with a 20-62 record. Brooklyn made some interesting moves this summer, headlined by trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle, and the Nets fanbase is wondering what the outlook for the 2026-27 season looks like.
"A year ago, the Nets kept and used all five of their first-round draft picks. This summer, Brooklyn chose to give overworked forward Michael Porter Jr. some immediate help instead," Shaun Powell wrote on the Nets for NBA.com. Powell's outlook seems to center on the fact that Randle and forward Michael Porter Jr. will be tasked with being the leaders of the team while also developing the youngest players on the team.
"It resulted in a trade for Randle, a former All-NBA player who is no stranger to New York; some of his best years were spent with the Knicks," Powell continued. "[Mikel] Brown Jr. was taken at No. 6 and brings solid combo guard skills from his college days at Louisville. He has a decent chance to earn front-end rotational minutes right away; such is the benefit of joining a team in transition."
As Powell mentioned, the Nets invested heavily in the 2025 NBA Draft as they acquired five first-round picks and used each of them on players they hoped would form the core of the roster. Guard Egor Demin appears to be the standout member of the five-person class at this point, but next season will be time for the other four players to show their potential given the stakes of the rebuild.
Randle and Porter will be able to provide enough scoring and shooting to make the team formidable on some nights, but the goal of the season would be to see how quickly players like Demin and Brown develop. Every member of the Nets organization is hoping for the kind of season that everyone can be proud of and the preparation for the season will begin towards the end of September.

Pittsburgh's preseason ended in heartbreak Thursday night, as the Buffalo Bills scored late to beat the Steelers 28-27 at Highmark Stadium. Head coach Mike McCarthy watched his roster compete one final time before decision day arrived.
By Friday afternoon, the mood inside the building turned serious, and the first wave of cuts landed hard. What happens next will shape how Pittsburgh's sideline looks in Week 1.
The Pittsburgh Steelers released 11 players Friday, their first move in what will be a busy weekend of roster decisions. The team must reach the 53-man limit, and multiple reports indicate the front office has until Sunday at 8 p.m. ET to finish the job.
The August 28 list included tight end Jaheim Bell, offensive linemen Greg Crippen and Jaylon Guilbeau, and defensive backs Jack Henderson, Brandon Hill and Daryl Porter. Wide receivers Jakobie Keeney-James, Tamon Lynum, Cornell Powell and Isaiah Winstead were also let go, along with running back Alex Tecza.

All eyes in markets were on Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole on Friday.
The Fed chief signaled the central bank is committed to 2% inflation, causing bond yields to jump.
Here's what some top market minds are saying about Warsh's remarks.
Investors were glued to their TVs on Friday as Federal Reserve boss Kevin Warsh stepped up to the podium at the annual Jackson Hole Economic Symposium.
The hotly anticipated remarks held a few key takeaways for investors. For one, Warsh reiterated what many already knew, which is that the era of forward guidance from the central bank is largely over. In stark contrast to his predecessor Jerome Powell, Warsh wants a "quieter" Fed.

Ryan Reynolds just revealed the best kiss of his life, and it's not with Blake Lively or Andrew Garfield. The actor shared a hilarious throwback video on Instagram that proves his most passionate on-screen moment came from the most unexpected partner.
Ryan Reynolds shared a video on Instagram recreating the iconic kiss from The Notebook with Conan O'Brien. Reynolds captioned the post, "The 7th most romantic thing Conan and I have ever done." The video quickly gained over 55,800 likes within hours of posting.
The kiss originally aired on Conan at the end of 2016, parodying the rain scene between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Reynolds and O'Brien mimicked the passionate moment, though Bravo's The Daily Dish noted it was "a lot more uncomfortable to watch." The clip resurfaced as Reynolds reposted it on Instagram, sparking a fresh wave of fan reactions.
O'Brien previously discussed the kiss during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. He revealed the scene lasted longer than viewers might expect. "It went on for about a minute and 20 seconds to the point where he starts doing stuff to my ear while we're making out," O'Brien said on WWHL. He also praised Reynolds, adding, "He's one of my favorite people. He's an amazing guy."
However, O'Brien's wife, Liza Powel O'Brien, was less enthusiastic about the moment. O'Brien shared her reaction during the same WWHL appearance. "I get home, my wife sees it, and she said, 'That ruined both of you for me,'" O'Brien recalled. He confirmed it was a "true story."

Jersey Bulls manager Elliot Powell said his side "got away with it" after they came from behind to beat Sheerwater FC 4-1 in their FA Cup preliminary round tie on Saturday.
The home side went a goal down after 12 minutes in an opening half an hour riddled with errors and miscommunication.
They eventually clicked into gear, with summer signing Sammy Henia-Kamau scoring a hat-trick and Lorne Bickley finishing off a well-worked move.
Powell, whose side will next visit Burgess Hill Town in the competition in September, said he was "not overly pleased with the performance".
"For 25 minutes we were poor, but then we had a bit of individual quality which got us ahead in the game," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

The Miami Heat have already undergone one of the largest NBA improvements this offseason after winning the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes. However, the Eastern Conference franchise is at it again with another former league champion, Klay Thompson.
The former Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks star is embarking on a new chapter for the 2026-27 season with Miami. In many ways it's a perfect situation for a veteran player joining a team with a lot of young talent.
ESPN's Sham Charania broke the news Friday as Thompson clears waivers following his time in Dallas. The franchise opted for a contract buyout for the league veteran after spending two seasons with the Mavs.
Meanwhile, Thompson won't be expected to be the main scorer given Giannis' presence as well as other players like Bam Adebayo and Norman Powell.
