Vinted, one of Europe's largest marketplaces for buying and selling pre-owned items between private individuals, will direct customers in Germany to ship or exchange goods through DHL Group's (XETRA: DHL) network of parcel lockers and digital kiosks, under a new strategic partnership aimed at making peer-to-peer purchases as convenient as ones through online retailers.
Private-party sales of used items through online marketplaces have become very popular in Germany. According to the latest DHL E-Commerce Trends Report, 67% of online shoppers in the country have already sold items via a digital platform.
Vinted and DHL announced Wednesday they are working together to expand and simplify the shipping and collection of Vinted parcels through DHL's network of Packstations (automated, self-service locker systems that allows users to send, receive and drop-off parcels around the clock), Poststations (digital Deutsche Post retail outlets where users can take care of postal business) and DeinFach lockers (a carrier neutral parcel locker network).
DHL operates the most extensive parcel shipping network in Germany, including 41,000 parcel drop-off and collection points at post offices, parcel shops and automated facilities.
The Vinted collaboration builds on a multi-month pilot program that both companies recently completed, DHL spokeswoman Sarah Preuss explained in an email message.

Growth in last-mile delivery for big and bulky e-commerce items has slowed by half because stagnant home sales mean people are ordering fewer large-ticket discretionary items like furniture and appliances, cutting into profit margins, according to a report from Armstrong & ******* ociates and the National Home Delivery ******* ociation.
Armstrong & ******* ociates estimated the $10.6 billion market for residential delivery of oversized and heavyweight items will grow at a 5.1% compound annual rate through 2027, down from 10.6% over the past eight years, reaching an estimated value of $12.3 billion. Winning service providers will be those that can best execute core, commoditized services such as white-glove delivery, time-definite, returns and in-home ******* embly.
The expansion continues to be driven by major retailers and e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Wayfair, Home Depot and Lowe's, which have made large-format products central to their online offerings. Many third-party logistics providers (3PLs) support them, primarily utilizing independent contractors and freight brokerage operations, but the work is more complex and cost-intensive than for final-mile couriers in parcel networks who simply drop off packages at doorsteps, or in mailboxes.
As more consumers purchase ******* bersome products online, carriers face growing pressure to provide not just transportation to the curb, but a premium, in-home delivery experience that may include setup, installation, and even haul-away services, while keeping costs under control, the report said.
Demand for exercise equipment, mattresses, furniture and other large items is closely tied to switches in living locations. When people and businesses move, they tend to upgrade items, or add new ones to fill larger ******* es.

FedEx is introducing, but not widely advertising, a series of new charges and fees over the next two weeks that could catch customers by surprise, building on a recent pricing strategy aimed at boosting revenue without touching base rates that shippers tend to focus on.
Over an 18-month span, FedEx (NASDAQ: FDX) has implemented or announced more than 50 pricing changes, according to parcel spend management firm LJM. On top of three general rate increases have been fuel surcharge adjustments, five changes to One Rate (a flat-rate, upfront shipping program designed to provide simplicity and predictability), delivery area surcharge updates, customs-related fees, dimensional pricing changes, peak surcharges and demand surcharges.
The surcharges are typically less visible to freight owners than base rates and can have a large impact on transportation budgets.
Shippers have experienced a significant increase in fuel surcharges from FedEx, UPS and even the U.S. Postal Service as the Iran war limited crude oil supplies, pushing up the cost of diesel and jet fuel used to power their fleets, as the TD Cowen/AFS Logistics Freight Index quantified last week. Fuel surcharges in the second quarter were two-thirds higher than the prior year. Overall, the express parcel rate per package increased 5.9% in the second quarter, while the ground parcel rate per package grew 5.2%.
"The biggest takeaway is not just that FedEx is raising rates on a continual basis, but how those increases have been distributed. Many shippers now see accessorial charges in the high-30% to low-40% range as a share of spend, with some exceeding 50%, LJM said in an article on its website. The constant micro-adjustments mean businesses should review their contracts more than once a year, it added.

We recently published Bill Miller Portfolio: Top 10 Stock Picks. United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) is one of the top stock picks.
Postal giant United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS)'s shares are up by 9.3% over the past year and by 11% year-to-date. The firm was in the news recently after the US Postal Inspector General raised the need to reevaluate its contract with the USPS. The contract is United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS)'s air cargo contract, and the oversight body advised contract termination in order to shift cargo to cheaper ground-based transportation instead of air freight. The Inspector General pointed towards the nature of the contract to outline that minimum volume commitments had forced the USPS to fly its cargo instead of using land transportation.

United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) is also currently in the process of expanding its portfolio of temperature-controlled facilities. According to a press release, the firm is investing $48 million in 27 facilities across the US. Following United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS)'s first quarter earnings report, UBS lowered the firm's share price target to $123 from $125 and kept a Buy rating on the shares.
While we acknowledge the risk and potential of UPS as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. If you are looking for an AI stock that is more promising than UPS and that has 10,000% upside potential, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock.

FedEx Corp. has launched a life sciences division offering specialized logistics services for companies shipping pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, clinical trial drugs and other critical healthcare shipments, the company announced on Thursday.
The move is part of a growing strategy at FedEx (NYSE: FDX), as well as rivals UPS and DHL, to pivot from the legacy parcel delivery business to focus on high-margin, premium market segments such as healthcare.
Chief Commercial Officer Brie Carere first mentioned the launch of FedEx Life Sciences during the company's earnings presentation on June 23, saying the company saw strong growth opportunities in the $80 billion healthcare transportation market.
"Transporting vital healthcare deliveries requires more than just standard logistics. It depends upon an intelligent, highly specialized network built for patient-critical needs," she said in Thursday's news release.
Most of FedEx's 13% revenue growth during the fourth quarter ended May 31 came from B2B premium markets such as automotive, healthcare, aerospace, data centers and specialized B2C.

Sean Payton helped the Denver Broncos return to relevance since taking over as the head coach in 2023. However, there was reportedly a master plan considered that would have had legendary coach Bill Belichick in the coaching driver's seat in Denver instead.
According to ESPN's Seth Wickersham, Payton considered pitching the idea of temporarily stepping down as head coach and relinquishing his job to Belichick after he parted ways with the New England Patriots in 2024. Payton and Belichick had developed a strong friendship, and the Broncos coach was willing to step aside to give the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach a chance to reach the 15 wins needed for him to break Don Shula's record of 347 victories.

The Teamsters unanimously passed a resolution at its international convention in Las Vegas this week instructing leadership to challenge United Parcel Service for violating the 2023 collective bargaining agreement by outsourcing delivery work to nonunion subcontractors, marking the latest effort to constrain the employer's freedom to cut costs and reorganize operations.
The union represent about 330,000 UPS workers, including about 100,000 delivery van and truck drivers.
The campaign to target UPS (NYSE: UPS) subsidiary Roadie is part of a broader effort to contest a series of alleged contract violations by UPS, the union said in a post on X. The union claims the 2023 contract prohibits UPS from funneling tasks that are the sole domain of union workers to companies that use gig workers.
In November, the Teamsters publicly complained on social media that UPS was improperly diverting parcel deliveries to Roadie, which relies on lower-paid gig workers for final-mile delivery. Officials said Roadie uses UPS labels, tracking and equipment, proving Roadie is taking work from Teamster drivers.
"Over the past four years, UPS has been scaling Roadie's operations nationwide. Dozens of Roadie distribution centers and cross-dock facilities have popped up. UPS wants more individual users on the Roadie app because the package giant is desperate to weaken the leverage, power, and solidarity of its existing Teamsters workforce," the Teamsters claimed in its "Just Cause" Substack column in January.

On Monday, FedEx Corp. spun-off its Freight division. What is left is the combined network of FedEx Express and FedEx Ground.
It’s an opportune time to remember that FedEx (NYSE: FDX) would be a distant third-place parcel carrier in the U.S. market without the acquisition of RPS as part of the $2.4 billion deal for Caliber System in 1998. And, were it not for RPS, FedEx likely wouldn’t have acquired Caliber and its regional less-than-truckload subsidiary, Viking Freight. FedEx wasn’t looking to get into the LTL ***** e, but had to buy Viking to get RPS.
