Mariner High School (Cape Coral, Fla.) has fired four football coaches and put two others on administrative leave as it investigates events that occurred during a recent lock-in at the school.
The school sent a letter to parents on Aug. 4 stating that it relieved head coach Tyran Jones and ***** istant coach Kaycie Zorbas of their coaching duties due to a lack of supervision by the staff during the gathering. Four other ***** istant coaches who were not school district employees were fired.
While it's unclear what exactly happened during the team-building event, principal Tom Michel confirmed that no hazing took place. However, students who violated the school's expectations will be held accountable for their actions, as stated in the letter.
"While student privacy laws prevent us from disclosing specific names or consequences, please be ***** ured that no hazing took place and every individual involved is being held fully accountable," the letter read.
The news comes just one week before the Tritons kickoff the 2026-27 season. Mariner fell 3-7 last season under Jones, who spent just one season at the helm. Jones previously coached two seasons at Island Coast.

Elena Khoziaeva's story is basically a masterclass in staying somewhere because it's actually good. A covered call ETF is a fund that owns a portfolio of stocks — often an index like the S&P 500 or Nasdaq-100 — and simultaneously sells (or "writes") call options — either on those individual holdings or on the index itself — against that portfolio. The premiums it collects from selling those options are passed through to shareholders as income, typically paid monthly. That option income is what powers the eye-catching yields these funds advertise.
The strategy is called covered because the fund actually owns the underlying stocks it's writing options against as opposed to a naked call, where the seller doesn't own the shares. Owning the stock covers the obligation, capping the risk of the options position itself.
To understand the yield, you need to understand what a call option is. When you sell a call option, you give the buyer the right to purchase a stock from you at a set price (the "strike price") at or before a set date. In exchange, the buyer pays you a fee upfront, known as the premium.
If the stock stays below the strike price, the option expires worthless, the buyer walks away, and you keep the premium as pure profit. Someone is collecting signatures that might kill a racetrack by telling people it will save it. That is not a typo. Paid canvassers in Nashville were caught on hidden camera telling residents that signing their petition would protect the Fairgrounds Speedway from being torn down by corporate developers. The petition actually does the exact opposite. It strips racing's legal protections from the city charter and tries to open the land to housing construction. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sat down with Marcus Smith, Jeff Burton, and Matt Weaver to talk about it.
"My question is, if it's true, which there's video evidence of these folks seeking these signatures, stating false information or just incorrect information, how can that not be taken to de-legitimize the 50,000, 60,000 signatures they need?" said Dale Jr. on Wednesday's episode of The Dale Jr. Download.
"They are using actual government letterhead to give this to the residents. That's the moment it becomes a legal matter."

An author who lost a seven-figure book deal over accusations that he used AI to write his debut novel is fighting back, denying the claims, as what was once viewed as a hallmark for a young writer has become a source of controversy.
In a series of Instagram posts, Jerry Falade stated he was "Definitely innocent!!!" while adding, "They CAN'T and WON'T stop this Black boy's light from shining."
The aspiring author had written "Call Me, I'll Hide The Body," a crime novel that immediately garnered attention and sparked a bidding war among some of the biggest names in book publishing. More than 14 publishers bid on the novel before Macmillan's Minotaur imprint reportedly acquired the U.S. rights, while HarperCollins secured the U.K. rights. In total, the publishing deal for Falade's debut book and a follow-up was around $2 million.
However, Falade's literary agent stepped in, stating that he could no longer support the book and informing both publishing houses of his concerns about the use of AI in its writing. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Falade informed the outlet that he did use AI, but only during the research phase of the novel, but not for the actual manuscript. He stated he relied on an open-source AI tool to answer research questions tied to the book's subject matter, including forensic details and opted for a locally run model because it does not retain extensive search histories.

This year Gang Green and their faithful have two new reasons for hope: tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.

Williams is the latest top prospect to reclassify up a class. That list includes four players who ended up being drafted first overall: AJ Dybantsa, Cooper Flagg, Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.
