NORMAN — Oklahoma received some positive injury news Monday.
During an appearance on his coach's show, Brent Venables said linebacker Kip Lewis, who exited Saturday's loss to Michigan with an apparent knee injury, might be back sooner rather than later.
"I think we got maybe some good news and he'll be back sooner than maybe we initially thought," Venables said.
Lewis, one of the Sooners' captains and their leading tackler a season ago, was missed in the second half against the Wolverines.
It's expected Cole Sullivan, who has mostly been playing Venables' hybrid cheetah position, is expected to start in Lewis' place if he's not able to play against New Mexico. Third-year linebacker James Nesta replaced Lewis and held his own.

Coming into Monday night, the Yankees were one win away from officially clinching a playoff berth. While that's obviously not the end goal of their season, getting into the postseason is the first step. They're now there.
Officially, the clinching came prior to the Yankees' game ending, as the Blue Jays losing to the Tigers was also enough to get the job done. However on the field, the Yankees got the job done too, eventually.
On the mound, Will Warren was pretty good but deserved better. He ended up going 5.2 innings, allowing two runs — both of which ended up unearned — on five hits and two walks. Thanks to some iffy defense and the offense struggling, he left the game in line for the loss, before the offense responded just in time. Thanks to a six-run eighth inning that included Aaron Judge's first home run since returning from the injured list, the Yankees flipped the game back in their favor. They didn't need the win to pop the champagne, but it still feels better to get in with it, as they downed the Twins 8-3.
After both teams failed to capitalize on some early runners, the Yankees broke the deadlock in the third. With two outs, José Caballero just cleared the left wall at Target Field for a solo home run, putting the Yankees up early.
On the mound, Warren was mostly very solid. He ended up giving up the lead in the sixth, albeit with some defensive miscues that weren't entirely on him. After Warren got the first out of the inning, Ryan McMahon let a Kody Clemens grounder through his legs for an error. Warren then got the second out, brining Josh Bell to the plate. Bell hit a liner to a leaping George Lombard Jr., who got a glove on the ball, but couldn't complete the catch. The ball got past him into center field, moving Clemens to third. That one was ruled a single as opposed to an error, as it would've been a very nice play had Lombard completed it.

Patrick Mahomes was back in the lineup for Week 1. And he showed in the Kansas City Chiefs' first drive that he's all the way back.
Any concern about Mahomes' mobility coming off a torn ACL was quelled right away. After Bo Nix threw an interception to start the Denver Broncos' night, the Chiefs went on a long drive that was mostly Kenneth Walker III rushes. But when Mahomes needed to make a play with his legs he did so. Twice.
Mahomes ran for a touchdown but it was called back due to holding. It was still good to see Mahomes scrambling and getting into the end zone. Then on the next play, he did it again from further out.
Mahomes scrambled and ran up the middle for a 15-yard score. There had to be some worry on the sideline as he took off, but Mahomes made it to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead. Mahomes didn't slide to be safe, instead lunging into the end zone for the score. There was a clear hold by Travis Kelce on the play but no flag was thrown, and Mahomes' score stood up on his second try.

Three and a half years of freight recession did two things to the truck financing market at once. It shredded the credit profiles of the carriers who most needed to borrow. It also pushed a large share of the lenders who would have lent to them out of the sector. Both are now rationing the equipment replacement cycle the industry has spent two years waiting on.
Kirk Mann stayed in. As executive vice president and general manager of the transportation vendor solutions business at Mitsubishi HC Capital America, he financed trucks through the entire downturn and watched a great many of them come back.
"There are a lot of lenders, banks that left, and so we've had the benefit of being one of the lenders actually lending money in this ****** e," Mann said in an interview with FreightWaves. What competition remains is mostly OEM captive finance arms, a couple of large independents and a few bank-led groups, he said.
The carriers that did not survive were overwhelmingly the newest. On average, 85% of motor carriers with fewer than two years of operating experience and their own operating authority failed over a three-year stretch of the downturn, Mann said.
Back in January 2023, Mann sat in Mitsubishi HC Capital's Chicago offices with Wayne Pass, the company's chief credit officer for vendor solutions, since retired. There were concerns about the Green Bay Packers offensive line entering the 2026 season, and Sunday's defeat in the opener against the Minnesota Vikings did nothing to dispel those worries.
Jordan Love did his best to overcome the pass protection problems, and mostly succeeded until late in the game, when the floodgates finally opened and he was forced into multiple turnovers which sealed the Packers' fate.
Analyzing the performance is not straightforward, and there is plenty to unpack.
The first thing to note is that until the late-game collapse, the O-line was far from perfect, but was surviving a normal level of struggle one might expect against a maniacal Brian Flores defense on the road in a raucous stadium.
Add in the fact it was Week 1, when most teams are still kicking off the rust, and the Packers starting multiple new and inexperienced players, and it was a perfect storm for a tough afternoon, and yet they were still managing to put up points.

The modern NFL has provided touchdowns over field goals. In a road environment, LaFleur was acutely aware of how much his offense was settling for field goals.
"Anytime in this league, if you kick enough field goals," LaFleur said, "you're able to get beat. That's essentially what happened. We kicked too many field goals when we had opportunities. We didn't take advantage of short fields at times."
By the fourth quarter, the Packers twice had settled for a field goal after reaching the red zone. That doesn't include a drive before halftime that started on Minnesota's 36-yard line that resulted in no points, mostly because of penalties.

On September 10, LightPath Technologies (NASDAQ:LPTH) reported fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year results that turned a multiyear strategic bet into a financial statement. Revenue nearly doubled for the year, margins expanded, and the company walked away from its last manufacturing ties to China. For a small-cap optics supplier that spent years explaining a strategy, this was the quarter the strategy started explaining itself.
Annual revenue climbed 92.7% to $71.7 million from $37.2 million, and the fourth quarter alone hit a record $21.2 million, up 73.8% year over year. That growth is not just volume. Full-year gross margin expanded to 36% from 27.2%, and the fourth quarter came in even higher at 39.4%, because ****** emblies, modules and cameras now make up 44% of annual sales instead of being sold as raw components.
CEO Sam Rubin said the shift reflects both a change in what LightPath sells and better execution on what it already made, noting every one of its four product groups improved margin for the year. Backlog finished at $110.9 million, up 197% from $37.4 million a year earlier, with $85.6 million of it scheduled for delivery within 12 months. Weeks after the fiscal year closed, the company booked another $24 million in counter-UAS orders, and some of those programs have already moved to monthly delivery cadences of tens of units.
LightPath also completed its exit from China, selling its subsidiary there for $4.5 million paid out over five years, leaving the company with no manufacturing footprint in a country that increasingly can't supply the defense primes it depends on. That matters because defense programs face a deadline this decade to source optics away from covered nations, and qualification cycles run two to three years, meaning the sourcing decisions being made now will determine who wins contracts in 2029 and 2030.
The company's fourth-quarter net loss narrowed to $4.1 million from $7.1 million a year earlier, but full-year operating expenses jumped to $45.5 million from $22 million, and $15.6 million of that was a noncash charge tied to G5 Infrared outperforming the earnout targets set at acquisition. Management called that charge mostly behind the business now that the final G5 payout has been accrued for January 2027, but it is a reminder that acquisition accounting can swing the income statement even when operations are healthy.

Michigan State beat Eastern Michigan 35-7 on Saturday, but the Spartans went into halftime leading only 14-7 after giving up a 13-play, 78-yard touchdown drive to the Eagles in the second quarter. Pat Fitzgerald did not hide his frustration with it afterward, as he mentioned in a Michigan State Spartans press conference video.
"We've got to be better fundamentally in the second quarter. We weren't doing a great job of block destruction, we weren't fitting gaps right," Fitzgerald said. "The play they scored on we practiced. You know, there was a lot of not very happy people on our defensive headphones and defensive staff when we went in at halftime. Should have never happened."
The run defense is mostly to blame for the touchdown drive. Of the Eagles' 78 yards, 67 came on the ground. The touchdown came when Noah Kim faked the handoff to his running back and took it in himself from four yards out without being touched by a defender.
"I thought, you know, Nick (Sheridan) and Joe (Rossi) and LeVar (Woods) were right on at halftime," Fitzgerald said. "By the time I even got up in the locker room after doing a couple interviews on the field, they had already had the things that I expected I was going to say."
Once the Spartans got to halftime, the coaching staff quickly addressed the effort and made sure the players didn't make the easy mistakes that had left the field open for the Eagles. The defense locked in after the break, allowing under 70 yards across Eastern Michigan's four second-half possessions.

After trotting out one of the NFL's worst offenses last year, Aaron Glenn and the Jets made several significant changes in the offseason to revamp that side of the ball. Among them: They acquired Smith, who began his career with the franchise in 2013, from Las Vegas; hired Frank Reich as offensive coordinator; bolstered their offensive line; and added a few young playmakers in tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., a pair of first-rounders.
They all helped lead the Jets to an impressive 23-10 victory over the **** ans in Tennessee on Sunday.
"Our offense, how balanced we were — running the ball, throwing the ball," Glenn said Monday. "Very efficient on how we wanted to operate. The O-line was outstanding, giving Geno time to be able to create some of these explosive plays down the field."

Sept 14 (Reuters) - Immigration arrests in the U.S. have soared in recent months, aided by more local law enforcement cooperation with ICE, increased use of technology to track and process people, as well as enhanced data sharing between federal agencies.
But the mass arrest campaign this summer did not lead to a commensurate increase in deportations -- according to preliminary U.S. government data reviewed by Reuters -- a reflection of the legal and logistical limits faced by President Donald Trump as he attempts to hit his mass deportation goals.
Even as arrests jumped to nearly 51,000 in August, setting a record for a third straight month, deportation numbers held mostly steady, averaging around 1,200 per day, the preliminary government data showed.
About the same number of people were deported per day in May, for example, when there were around 19,000 fewer arrests, according to arrests data obtained by the Deportation Data Project through a public records request and ****** yzed by Reuters.

Michigan opened the Kyle Whittingham Era last week needing some game-clock malpractice and a Hail Mary to survive against Western Michigan.
Seven days later, the Wolverines put together a nasty defensive effort, overcome a host of costly penalties and roll to a 17-10 win over No. 11 Oklahoma in the Big House.
Remember when Whittingham unintentionally made a stir by questioning QB Bryce Underwood's status as the starter last week? Well, he made sure to clear the air after Underwood — mostly with his feet — helped Michigan beat OU.

It's the eve of the Washington Commanders' season opener, so they have made a roster move.
It's not unusual for the Commanders, or the other 31 NFL teams, to make a roster move or two the day before a game. As the season progresses, you will notice these are often injury-related, where the Commanders will elevate a player from the practice squad to the active roster to fill in for an injured player who is going to be inactive on game day.
In this case, the Commanders just released offensive tackle D.J. Humphries on Friday. Thus, Washington announced Saturday it is elevating C/G Julian Good-Jones (JGJ) from the practice squad for Sunday's 2026 opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A whole new generation is about to be introduced to one of the most beloved boy bands of the 1990s when Taylor Hanson begins his dance journey on Dancing With the Stars. The middle Hanson brother is partnered with Britt Stewart in Season 35 of the dance competition.

Eli Drinkwitz doesn't usually mince words. While mostly affable, the Missouri head coach doesn't always subscribe to tact. He's not to afraid to say how he feels.
He certainly didn't pull any punches after his No. 23 Tigers squad humbled Kansas on the road Friday night in the latest iteration of the schools' "Border Showdown." Missouri (2-0) handed the Jayhawks (1-1) a 38-21 defeat that could have looked even more lopsided had a head-turning shot to the end zone not fallen incomplete in the game's waning moments at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
That potential death knell resulted from Drinkwitz's frustration toward Kansas and the way the Jayhawks brazenly approached the programs' longstanding yet complicated rivalry in the lead-up to the matchup.
Kansas leaned into the Civil War history between the two states, posting a pregame hype video framed as "heroes vs. villains" with the social media caption, "It is that deep." Drinkwitz wasn't amused and fundamentally disagreed.

The Dodgers on Friday called up phenom Josue De Paula, their top prospect, and placed Shohei Ohtani on the 15-day injured list. Those were the expected moves, and took care of the active-roster component. But to make room on the 40-man roster for De Paula, the Dodgers transferred left-hander Eric Lauer to the 60-day injured list.
Lauer had been on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation since September 2, one day after allowing seven runs in three innings in his worst start since joining the Dodgers. Moving him to the 60-day injured list means Lauer won't be eligible to pitch in the postseason. His 2026 campaign has concluded.
The 31-year-old left-hander was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on May 17 after Lauer was designated for **** ignment by Toronto, with the Jays paying all but $600,000 of his remaining $3.1 million salary the rest of the way. The Dodgers won each of Lauer's first nine appearances with the team, a stretch in which he did not allow more than three runs in any outing.
Lauer had two blow-up starts — six runs in four innings on August 5 at Wrigley Field, September 1 at home vs. Cardinals — but mostly did everything that was asked of him, lasting at least six innings in seven of his 13 outings, including 11 starts. In all, Lauer had a 4.50 ERA and 4.48 xERA in 72 innings with the Dodgers. Today marks the beginning of Branch's latest stand-up campaign, the Forehead Tour XXL, in Chandler, Arizona. It's been a busy year for the Kevin Langue Show star – this is his second stand-up tour supported by two self-produced comedy specials just in 2026 – but artists with big ambitions don't slow down when their followings are growing even larger than their foreheads.
Most comedy fans who know Branch have seen him on the Rob Lowe comedy series Unstable or dead-center in the eye of the storm on The Kevin Langue Show, a massively popular and mostly improvised YouTube series that combines game show elements with unbridled comedy chaos. Langue just inked a deal to bring his gonzo social experiments to Netflix late last month, and the Kevin Langue Show's massive 5.5-million subscriber count forms a huge part of Branch's own fandom.
But in his solo career, Aaron has branched out into music, long-form sketch comedy and some deeply personal stand-up performances, such as his latest comedy special, The Birth of a Forehead. A fifteen-year comedy veteran, Branch now finds his career expanding in all directions, but, much like his forehead, his body of work can always get bigger.

I know you're being mostly facetious, but college football can be super unpredictable. This isn't the Temple of 2015 and Matt Rhule (or even the Temple of Al Golden), but they're motivated and could put a scare into an unprepared team. I don't think this coaching staff will have the team show up unprepared, but when you underestimate your opponent, that's when it's easier for them to take advantage.
Just as Michigan…or Rutgers.
A long, long time ago, before the internet, I taught a linear algebra class at the night school at Temple. While I never had my car stolen and the worst thing that happened to me was getting diarrhea from some Chinese food truck which had me wishing for Depends during a 50 minute lecture, should I have more loyalty to the school?–LarzLion

It's always fun to joke about air yards.
I do it all the time with my Rotoworld Football Show cohosts in desperately trying to make a case that a player is due for (positive or negative) regression based on his air yards accumulation from the prior week or the past few outings. And it always sounds like one long comedy bit: This player saw so many air yards that could have been converted into actual, real-life receiving yards bro, I swear bro, trust me on this.
Air yards, whether we like it or not — and most fantasy folks definitely do not like it — are a good measure of a pass catcher's opportunity and the type of passing volume in a given offense. That air yards don't always translate into real, edible receiving yards is just part of our frustrating little game. We make small bets here and there and hope things break right from week to week and prove our process correct more often than not. It's not any more complicated than that, even if we desperately want it to be.
Over the past few seasons I have used this ****** e to talk mostly about guys with exceptionally high or low touchdown rates. Air yards has mostly been a side issue in the Regression Files. While they have a new head coach, people see a team that lost 14 games last season and 11 of their final 12 games, including nine straight to end the season. They have the same skill players and defense, mostly.
As such, in ESPN's Football Power Index, they are expected to struggle again.
They are projected to win 4.9 games, with a best-case scenario of 7-10. They are given a 1.4% chance of making the playoffs and 0.1% chance of winning the NFC West. They have the hardest strength of schedule.
Looking at their schedule, it is tough to find wins. They are underdogs in every game, and they are underdogs by at least a touchdown in their first 11. They play in arguably the league's best division, with the other three teams all legitimate ******* le contenders.

HOPATCONG — Before Hopatcong's season opener, Alexa McLean said all the same things to the soccer players as most other coaches would. She just said them in a slightly higher register, occasionally referring to one or another of the boys as "honey." McLean called out her starters' names with a lilt belying her Ecuadoran American roots.
During the match, McLean strolled the sideline with her phone on a sparkly cross-body strap bouncing off her hip, a green dry-erase board printed with soccer lines and a white marker in her right hand. She gave a continuous flow of suggestions and encouragement, mostly in English. But occasionally, McLean switched to her native Spanish.
A Spanish and English as a Second Language teacher at Hopatcong, McLean was an ****** istant with the boys soccer team two years ago. Last fall, she helped the soccer team at the Academy of St. Elizabeth – an all-girls school in Morris Township – to a 1-15 record in her first high school head coaching job.
But the commute was too much. When the Hopatcong boys' job opened up, it seemed a natural fit.
"I wasn't sure how I was going to be accepted by the boys," said McLean, 52, who didn't start coaching in high school until her four kids had all graduated. "I haven't had an issue. I took a little (while) for them to get used to me and me to get used to them, but it's working out."

During the match, McLean strolled the sideline with her phone on a sparkly cross-body strap bouncing off her hip, a green dry-erase board printed with soccer lines and a white marker in her right hand. She gave a continuous flow of suggestions and encouragement, mostly in English. But occasionally, McLean switched to her native Spanish.
A Spanish and English as a Second Language teacher at Hopatcong, McLean was an ****** istant with the boys soccer team two years ago. Last fall, she helped the soccer team at the Academy of St. Elizabeth – an all-girls school in Morris Township – to a 1-15 record in her first high school head coaching job.
But the commute was too much. When the Hopatcong boys' job opened up, it seemed a natural fit.
"I wasn't sure how I was going to be accepted by the boys," said McLean, 52, who didn't start coaching in high school until her four kids had all graduated. "I haven't had an issue. I took a little (while) for them to get used to me and me to get used to them, but it's working out."

CNBC reported on August 27, 2026, that BitGo Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:BTGO) will acquire the institutional trading business of NYDIG, adding derivatives, structured products, financing, and other capital markets services to its existing custody, settlement, and wallet infrastructure.
About 30 NYDIG employees and roughly 250 institutional client relationships will join BitGo, according to a person close to the matter; a regulatory filing put the deal's total consideration at about $42.5 million, mostly in BitGo stock. BitGo, which went public earlier this year and has a market value under $1 billion, is expanding its institutional capabilities. NYDIG said it will instead focus on power generation, Bitcoin mining, and high-performance computing data centers, where its development pipeline already exceeds 3 gigawatts.

Charles Barkley has often made bold NBA predictions and comparisons, but his most recent one is especially noteworthy. During an interview with Bill Simmons, the NBA legend claimed he has found a duo that could be the NBA's next Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
"First of all, those two guards, I don't want to see them for the next 10 years if I'm a guard in the NBA," Barkley said on The Bill Simmons Podcast about the Spurs' young backcourt in Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper.

On August 5, Murphy USA (NYSE:MUSA) reported second-quarter results that make the case for its unglamorous business model. Net income came in at $209.1 million, or $11.27 per diluted share, up from $145.6 million and $7.36 per share in the same quarter of 2025. Adjusted EBITDA climbed to $377.3 million from $286.0 million. For a company that mostly sells gasoline and convenience store snacks, that is a striking jump, and it did not come from a single lucky quarter.
The engine behind the gain was fuel. Total fuel contribution reached 40.6 cents per gallon in the quarter, up from 32.0 cents a year earlier, while the retail fuel margin alone rose 20.2% to 35.1 cents per gallon. Volume grew at the same time, with total retail gallons up 3.9% and same-store sales volumes up 0.5%, so Murphy USA was not just pricing better; it was also moving more gas through its pumps. Merchandise held up its end too, with contribution dollars up 4.0% to $227.4 million on unit margins of 20.1%, as nicotine contribution rose 6.1% and non-nicotine contribution grew 2.9%.
The company kept returning cash to shareholders through it all, buying back 143.1 thousand shares for $76.8 million and raising its quarterly dividend 28.0% year over year to $0.64 per share. Sunderland's success in recent years can be attributed to many factors, but I'd argue that one of the main drivers of our success has been the fuel provided by doubt.
Time after time, year after year, game after game, Sunderland are written off. Sometimes by our own supporters, yes, but mostly by people in the media, pundits, journalists and other notable figures in the game.
And perhaps, in some strange way, we should be grateful for it.
Because there is something about being underestimated that seems to bring out the very best in this football club.
We've had plenty of credit for how we've operated in that time too, but following the end of last season – where we managed to achieve the unthinkable with a seventh-place finish in our first year back in the top flight – there's definitely been an undercurrent that Sunderland were a little bit lucky to end up where we did.
