Atlético de Madrid on Tuesday pulled out of negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais to sign veteran left-back Nicolás Tagliafico before the summer transfer window shut.
Atlético's interest in Argentina international Tagliafico first came to us via David Medina and Isaac Suárez in Marca. Atlético were seeking a backup for Alejandro Grimaldo after long negotiations for Racing Santander teenager Jorge Salinas fell apart Tuesday; Salinas is staying at Racing after no club paid his €16 million release clause.
Tagliafico had been in negotiations to join Juventus before Atlético entered the race. According to Fabrizio Romano **** ociate Matteo Moretto, Tagliafico spoke directly to Diego Simeone and prioritized a move to Atleti, having accepted his role would be as a substitute. To make room for Tagliafico and his roughly €3 million gross salary, Mateu Alemany had to clear **** e in the squad by finding new destinations for multiple players, including Josema Giménez, Thomas Lemar, Carlos Martín and Obed Vargas.
While the sporting director moved out Giménez and Lemar on deadline day, Vargas and Carlos Martín stayed. That meant Atleti could not move forward with a Tagliafico transfer, especially as Lyon could not secure a replacement. French media first reported its collapse before Spanish media corroborated later in the day.
Tagliafico, who turned 34 on Monday, has spent the previous four seasons playing for Lyon, but the French side's aggregate loss to Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Champions League play-off round last week has put it in a bind. With Champions League income lost, Lyon need to sell players, and Tagliafico — entering the final year of his contract — was poised to be one of the casualties.

Nottingham Forest have enquired about the possibility of signing Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Oliver Glasner wants to add a new first-choice goalkeeper to his squad before the deadline, and Forest have had an offer turned down for former loanee Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace.
According to journalistMatteo Moretto, Forest have contacted Liverpool to discuss Mamardashvili's availability. The Georgia international joined Liverpool from Valencia for an initial fee of £25m last summer and made 10 Premier League appearances last season.
The 25-year-old is understood to feel frustrated about his role heading into the current campaign, with Alisson Becker remaining at Anfield as number one goalkeeper, despite speculation over a potential move to Juventus.
Liverpool also have issues around registration rules. Clubs can register a maximum of 17 players not classed as a 'homegrown player', with the Reds reaching that limit afterthe arrival of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona.

Samuele Ricci is on the verge of joining Como from Milan as the two clubs are now discussing the final details of a transfer for the Italy international midfielder according to the latest updates on Thursday morning.
Milan and Como have an agreement in place over the structure of a deal for Ricci, who is set to join Cesc Fabregas's side on an initial season-long loan deal with an option to buy. Como are expected to pay the player's salary in full for the duration of his loan spell according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

An exact transfer fee has not been disclosed, although esports from Matteo Moretto indicate that the clubs are discussing a total package in the region of €22m between the cost of the loan deal and the option to buy.
Ricci had joined Milan from Torino in a deal reported to be worth €23m plus add-ons during the previous summer transfer window in 2025.

The possibility of bringing Luis Henrique to the Giallorossi has definitively faded.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the deal has fallen through.
The deal was never close to being finalized: the Brazilian's entourage and Roma's management reached a deadlock, and a financial agreement was never reached between the parties.
Oosterwolde is expected to fill the role of fifth winger, reports Matteo Moretto.

Nuno Espirito Santo is at the London Stadium. Real Sociedad are close to reaching a full agreement to sign West Ham United defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to transfer reporter Matteo Moretto.
Direct talks between the Spanish club and the 28-year-old Mexican international have progressed significantly in recent days.
Alvarez has demonstrated his commitment to the transfer by agreeing to a significant wage reduction to fit within Real Sociedad's salary structure. He has also formally requested that West Ham sanction his departure.
The defensive midfielder, who moved to the London Stadium from Ajax in 2023 for an initial £32 million, is eager to launch a new chapter in La Liga, with his role at West Ham increasingly uncertain due to the club's ongoing squad rebuild.
Alvarez was left out of West Ham's squad for their Championship opener against Burnley, further signalling that his departure is imminent.

Lazio full-back Nuno Tavares stirred some controversy with his latest social media move, while Porto are obeserving his situation closely.
The 26-year-old has been playing his football in Rome since making the move from ****** nal in the summer of 2024. The Portuguese international enjoyed a stellar start to his Lazio stint, before being hampered by injuries. Last season, he was omitted from Maurizio Sarri's starting lineup after making costly blunders, only to be restored later in the campaign.
This summer, the Biancocelesti acquired the services of Alfonso Pedraza on a free transfer. The 30-year-old Spaniard has done enough in pre-season to convince Gennaro Gattuso to grant him a starting role, especially with Tavares struggling with another muscle injury. Therefore, many feel this is the right time for the club to cash in on the Lisbon native.
As noted by several sources, including La Lazio Siamo Noi, Tavares has deleted every post related to Lazio on his Instagram account. Many observers believe this could be a sign of dissatisfaction with his status at the club, or a come-and-get-me plea to his suitors.
As it happens, Italian football journalist Matteo Moretto is reporting Porto's interest in the wantaway full-back. The Portuguese giants have already been linked with the player on a few occasions earlier in the summer. Moreover, recent rumours claimed Lazio could swap him with AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, but the two clubs have yet to embark on serious talks.

Matthias Jaissle is at St James' Park with Xabi Alonso at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea. Newcastle United have entered the race to sign AC Milan attacker Christopher Nkunku, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.
Nkunku's time at San Siro is set to end abruptly just twelve months after his €37m move from Chelsea. New Milan head coach Ruben Amorim does not see the Frenchman in his plans, leaving him out of recent pre-season squads as the Rossoneri reshape their attack. With Milan ready to part ways, a host of European clubs are lining up a move.
Newcastle are aiming to position themselves among the frontrunners. The Magpies have contacted Nkunku's representatives to discuss personal terms and explore the financial framework of a deal. Head coach Matthias Jaissle is determined to add proven European pedigree to his attack, with Nkunku offering versatility as a central striker, second forward, or attacking midfielder.
German sides RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are also interested, with Leipzig exploring a reunion with their former talisman, who scored 70 goals and provided 45 ******* ists in four years at the club. There is also reported interest from clubs in Spain and Italy.
Despite strong interest from Spain and Germany, Newcastle's financial resources and the appeal of Premier League football could give them an edge. Nkunku is keen to secure regular first-team football in a top league to get his career back on track after a difficult year.

Milan have reportedly set a €35m price-tag on Christopher Nkunku, with interest primarily from Roma, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.
The Rossoneri effectively confirmed that he is not part of their vision for this season, as he was one of several players not just cut from the squad for today's friendly with Manchester United, but even excluded from training with their teammates.
Nkunku was frozen out along with Youssouf Fofana, Fikayo Tomori, and David Odogu.

Roma are keen to sign Gian Piero Gasperini with a much-needed attacking winger.
In recent hours, a name that has been hotly debated within the Giallorossi is Rodrigo Mora.
The Portuguese has been in the sights of the Roman club, but negotiations are still in the early stages.
The player was offered by Jorge Mendes despite ongoing negotiations with Galatasaray.
The Trigoria club, as reported by Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, has decided to take a decisive stance.

After Santiago Castro and Konstantinos Koulierakis, Nahuel Molina will be the Giallorossi's third signing of the summer.
While awaiting the arrival of the right-footed left-back, Roma is preparing to welcome the Argentine full-back, formerly of Udinese and Atlético Madrid.
After the World Cup concluded on July 19th, Molina then enjoyed a couple of weeks of relaxation with his family before recharging his batteries and dedicating himself to his new adventure in the capital.
As reported by Matteo Moretto, in the next few hours, the Argentine will be in Rome to finalize the contract that will tie him to the Giallorossi for the next four years.
Molina will have the opportunity to integrate with his new teammates and try to immediately connect with Gasperini.

#molina #back

Roma's transfer market will see a dramatic acceleration in the coming days.
Following Gasperini's rebuke following the 3-0 defeat to Brighton in England, Sporting Director Tony D'Amico is working hard to finalize deals for a winger and striker.
In addition to Cacciamani and Mora, the Giallorossi are also moving forward with negotiations for Real Madrid's Endrick.
After loaning Franco Mastantuono to Fiorentina, the Blancos are reportedly considering leaving the Brazilian talent as well.
In this sense, as reported by Matteo Moretto, the player's will will be decisive.

The exit operations are in full swing at FC Barcelona.
Ronald Araujo is on the verge of completing his loan move to Liverpool, while Marc Casado could be on his way to Saudi Arabia, having been left out of the squad travelling to Italy for the friendlies against Udinese and Nottingham Forest.
Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, another academy graduate could be on his way out of Barcelona in the coming days.
Indeed, as per the report, Barcelona are ready to listen to offers for talented right-back Hector Fort this summer.
The 20-year-old La Masia product spent the last season on loan at Elche, where he showed promise despite enduring an injury-riddled campaign.

Roma continues to believe in the possibility of signing Endrick.
The Giallorossi and Real Madrid are maintaining contact with the Brazilian's entourage, reports Matteo Moretto.
In the coming days, the player will have to decide his future, whether to confirm his desire to stay at Real Madrid or consider going out on loan again for regular playing time.
There's no word yet on a departure, but the Giallorossi have let those managing the player know that their interest is very real.
D'Amico is also reportedly open to making a move to Madrid.

Barcelona have been in negotiations to try to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City this summer transfer window.
The Catalan club have pipped arch-rivals Real Madrid as Rodri's preferred destination, and the 30-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Barça.
Barça made an opening bid for the World Cup winner yesterday worth around €45 million in fixed fees, which City turned down very quickly.

Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Barça are prepared to increase their financial proposal to Manchester City for Rodri.

An up-and-coming Real Madrid midfield talent could yet prove to be a key factor in setting the dominoes in motion for Rodri to make his way to the Spanish capital.
The Blancos starlet in question? Jorge Cestero.
Cestero, for his part, is a 20-year-old midfielder, who has long been held in high regard across the Spanish football landscape. This past season, he emerged onto the first-team picture at Real Madrid, ultimately notching three appearances between La Liga and the Champions League.
If the latest word stemming from the Spanish media this week is anything to go by, though, then Cestero could soon see his time in the famed white of Los Merengues brought to a close.
As per a report from transfer market insider Matteo Moretto:

Lille are already planning for the possible departure of Ayyoub Bouaddi, with Matteo Moretto reporting the Ligue 1 side have identified Real Madrid midfielder Jorge Cestero as a potential replacement.
The French club are entering a new era under former Real Madrid ****** istant Davide Ancelotti, with a summer of significant squad changes.
One of the club's biggest priorities is preparing for the imminent exit of Bouaddi.
The 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder has become one of Europe's most sought-after young talents following his impressive performances at the 2026 World Cup.
And, Manchester City are now close to reaching an agreement with Lille, having already verbally agreed personal terms with the player.

After Castro and Koulierakis, Roma is very close to making their third signing.
To strengthen their right flank, the Giallorossi had their eye on Givairo Read, a 2006-born Dutchman currently owned by Feyenoord.
However, the Rotterdam club's demands were deemed excessive by those at Trigoria, so they opted for Nahuel Molina, currently playing for Atlético Madrid.
Yesterday, Roma presented the Colchoneros with an offer of €17 million, including bonuses, to bring the former Udinese player back to Italy. This sum is significantly lower than the €30 million Feyenoord was asking for Read.
According to Matteo Moretto on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, the deal for Roma-Molina is very close to being finalized and could be completed between today and tomorrow.

Swap deals are becoming increasingly rare in modern football, with clubs keen on extracting as much money as possible from transfers amid strict Financial Fair Play regulations.
The problem with a swap deal is that it is very rare for two clubs and two different players to want the exact opposite moves, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
However, it does seem like Barcelona have a swap deal proposal on the table involving Atletico Madrid, Ferran Torres and Julian Alvarez.
The Catalan giants have made Alvarez their dream signing to lead Hansi Flick's attack, but negotiations have made little progress due to Atletico's firm stance that the Argentine is not for sale.
Speaking on Jijantes FC, transfer insider Matteo Moretto revealed that the possibility of including Ferran Torres in a player-plus-cash deal was seriously discussed.

Roma continues to push for Givairo Read.
As Matteo Moretto recently reported on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, the Giallorossi initially showed interest in Sporting's Ivan Fresneda, but subsequently decided to focus on the Dutch full-back from Feyenoord.
Read has already said yes to Roma, and there's a principled agreement between the player and the club: now all that's missing is an agreement between the two clubs.
The initial offer of around €25 million wasn't enough to convince Feyenoord, but contacts between the clubs are continuing unabated.
New discussions are planned between today and tomorrow to try to make a definitive move and present a potential relaunch that could shake the Dutch club.

BILD and transfer journalist Matteo Moretto reported Bayer Leverkusen are on the verge of signing Miguel Gutiérrez from Napoli. The Bundesliga side are tracking several profiles to fill the void left by Alejandro Grimaldo's move to Atlético Madrid.
While there are reports over positive talks with Marseille for Argentine defender Facundo Medina, Die Werkself could now close the file with the arrival of the 25-year-old from Naples. The transfer fee is reported to be somewhere between €25-30 million.
The former Spanish youth international played 28 Serie A games for Napoli last season. He also featured five times in their Champions League campaign that ended in the league phase. Gutiérrez joined the then-champions Napoli from Girona for €18 million last summer.

Matteo Moretto reports that Milan have enquired about ******* nal talent Ethan Nwaneri, rivalling RB Leipzig, Fulham and Everton.
Serie A giants Milan have enquired about ******* nal's attacking midfielder Nwaneri, according to Matteo Moretto.
The Italian transfer expert has claimed that there have been contacts between the Rossoneri and ******* nal as Milan sounded out the 19-year-old's availability.
Milan aren't the only club in the race as Nwaneri has attracted interest from many other European clubs, especially RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, Fulham and Everton in the English Premier League.
Arsenal are open to letting the 19-year-old leave, but ideally on a permanent transfer and keeping control over him.

Barcelona have gone to the market to search for a new central midfielder after Frenkie de Jong was ruled out long-term with an MCL tear sustained during the World Cup, according to transfer expert Matteo Moretto. The Dutch international will miss a significant spell, leaving Hansi Flick short in the middle of the park as the new LaLiga season approaches.
The injury alone would be enough to trigger a reassessment of Barcelona's midfield resources, but de Jong's relationship with Flick has also grown strained following several incidents in recent months. That context matters: even before the ligament damage was confirmed, there were already questions about what role, if any, de Jong would play in Flick's plans going forward.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong during a match.
The combination of a long-term absence and a fractured working relationship means Barcelona may not simply be filling a gap until he recovers – they could be planning for a more permanent realignment of the midfield.
Marc Casadó could be an in-house option to earn more minutes, but he does not appear to be part of Flick's plans either. Separate reports indicate that Barcelona have set a new asking price for Casadó and that the club has been told to listen to offers for him – hardly the sign of a player being earmarked as a stop-gap replacement.

#frenkie #casad #long #midfield

According to a report from Matteo Moretto (as captured by Sport journalist Jordi Carné), former Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka might be trying to capitalize on the recent injury to Frenkie de Jong and has offered himself to his old boss, Hansi Flick, and FC Barcelona:
In recent hours, for example, FC Barcelona has received an offer worth considering. According to Matteo Moretto on "La Pizarra de Quintana," Leon Goretzka, a free agent after his contract with Bayern Munich expired, has made himself available to the Blaugrana club. The midfielder's entourage—he played a supporting role for the German national team at the World Cup—has expressed openness to joining the Blaugrana project following De Jong's tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
This isn't the first time Goretzka has offered his services to Barça in recent months.
Do not expect Goretzka to land in Catalonia, though. Carné says that FC Barcelona is not looking to add anything to the central midfield, so Goretzka will have to continue his search elsewhere.
As for where he might land, Goretzka's future could be determined by injuries that occur this summer. As of now, the midfielder is rumored to be focusing on European teams, but could eventually accept a fate that includes MLS.

#carn #bayern

According to journalist Matteo Moretto (h/t SPORT), Leon Goretzka has offered himself to Barcelona after becoming a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Bayern Munich.
The German midfielder's representatives have made contact with Barcelona's sporting department in recent hours, indicating that Goretzka would be interested in joining Hansi Flick's project following Frenkie de Jong's long-term knee injury.
The Dutchman is expected to be sidelined for around four months after sustaining the injury during the World Cup. This has prompted the manager to request the club to reinforce the midfield if possible.
This is not the first time Goretzka has been linked with Barcelona in recent months.
The 30-year-old midfielder worked under Flick at Bayern Munich between 2019 and 2021, making 64 appearances during the German coach's tenure.

River Plate have opened formal negotiations with Real Madrid to re-sign teenage midfielder Franco Mastantuono on a season-long loan deal, according to football journalist Matteo Moretto.
The 18-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder is keen to return to his former club in Buenos Aires to secure regular playing time after a heavily disrupted debut season in Spain.
Mastantuono moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from River Plate last year in a high-profile transfer. However, he struggled to secure consistent minutes in a highly competitive Real Madrid squad

Roma tried everything to sign Summerville, but Al Hilal quickly made a monstrous offer, convincing West Ham and the player to move to Saudi Arabia.
The Giallorossi are currently evaluating other wingers to improve their attack.
Several players have been linked with the Roma side: Nusa, Godts, and Schjelderup are three prospects still a long way off, for various reasons.
D'Amico is working to find the right solution and meet the demands of Gian Piero Gasperini, who is still awaiting his first transfer.
Roma is looking for a winger who won't make them miss Greenwood and Summerville, two transfer targets that fell through. As reported by Matteo Moretto, the Giallorossi club is interested in Nusa and has had contact to test the potential. However, the 2005-born winger isn't convincing everyone at Trigoria.

The situation surrounding the future of Rodri at Manchester City continues to evolve. It did seem that as much as the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder wanted a move to Real Madrid, the La Liga giants were not interested in signing him this summer. Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has no interest in signing Rodri. However, a new report has emerged that indicates that perhaps Real Madrid are now interested in signing arguably Manchester City’s most important player. Whatever occurs with Rodri’s future this summer, Manchester City do need a speedy resolution to the situation before it drags on for far too long.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Rodri does indeed want a move to Real Madrid at some point. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had no interest in bringing Rodri to the club. However, that situation may have changed. Matteo Moretto has reported that Florentino Perez is becoming open to the possibility of signing Rodri. Furthermore, it is also reported that personal terms between Rodri and Real Madrid are considered to be a formality. Lastly, it is also reported that at this stage, negotiations between Real Madrid and Manchester City over a deal that will see Rodri sign for the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners have yet to commence.
The situation surrounding Rodri threatens to be a distraction for Manchester City. Rodri will enjoy a period of holidays following his efforts at the World Cup with Spain. Manchester City’s midfield general helped his country claim their second World Cup crown and he was named as the player of the tournament. While Rodri rests, his future is now a major topic to watch for in the coming days and weeks. It is also a situation that could shape the remainder of the summer transfer window for Manchester City.
Rodri is contracted with City for next season. He is entering the final twelve months of his current deal. Manchester City are eager to sign him to an extension, but for now, there hasn’t been any movement on that front. As Matteo Moretto reports, Real Madrid are yet to enter into negotiations with City to sign Rodri. Nor has Rodri indicated to City that he wants to leave this summer. But Rodri’s contract situation does raise the possibility of him leaving City sooner than anticipated.
However, the best scenario for Manchester City is that Rodri provides clarity on his intentions in a timely manner. The longer the situation drags on, that doesn’t really suit anyone. Typically, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders do not keep players that don’t want to be at the club. Unless that player was Bernardo Silva. If Rodri informs City that he wants to leave this summer, and if Real Madrid do make their move, the sooner that process begins, the quicker a resolution can be found, whatever that may be.

AS Roma star Marash ******* bulla is a man in-demand in Spain with a view to the 2026/27 campaign. This comes amid the understanding that all of Levante, Rayo Vallecano and Elche are keen on the defender's signature.
Kumbulla for his part spent each of the last two seasons plying his trade in La Liga, first with Espanyol, and then RCD Mallorca.
And despite the latter stint having proven a largely disappointing one, the Albanian's reputation appears to remain very much intact in Spain's top-flight.
As per a report from transfer market insider Matteo Moretto, amid respective searches for reinforcements at the back this summer:
'Rayo Vallecano, Levante, and Elche have inquired about Marash ******* bulla.'

Stefan Bajcetic has reached an important point in his Liverpool career, with pre-season now set to shape whether he remains part of the club's plans or moves on before the window closes. According to Matteo Moretto for Marca, the 21-year-old has support from the new head coach and a genuine chance to re-establish himself at Anfield.
Bajcetic was long viewed internally as one of Liverpool's standout young midfield prospects after arriving from Celta Vigo in 2020 and breaking into senior football two years later. Since then, injuries have had a major say in his trajectory. Setbacks across multiple seasons, followed by hamstring surgery in April 2025, meant he missed the whole of the 2025/26 campaign and left his development stalled at a crucial age.
Photo IMAGO
That context matters now. Bajcetic is back in training and, with Andoni Iraola beginning his work at Liverpool, there is a clean slate of sorts for several players on the fringes. Moretto reported that "Iraola likes him a lot." He added, "Iraola wants to keep him for now; he wants to see him during pre-season," before outlining the likely split in outcomes. "If he stays, he'll renew his contract with Liverpool. If not, he'll look for another club. He wants to return to Spain."
The contract position sharpens the issue. Bajcetic is entering the final year of his deal, so Liverpool will need clarity sooner rather than later. If the coaching staff are convinced by his fitness and level, an extension would make obvious sense. If doubts remain, the club may have to consider a sale while there is still some value to protect.

Every summer, academy players arrive knowing the pre-season training can alter the course of their future.
For Brian Farinas, that opportunity seems to have arrived this summer after Hansi Flick decided to take a closer look at the midfielder before Barcelona finalise his proposed move to Girona.
It must be remembered that the 20-year-old had appeared to be on his way out of the club.
In fact, negotiations between Barcelona and Girona were progressing well, with both clubs working towards an agreement that would allow the talented La Masia graduate to continue his development in a more competitive first-team environment.
In an interesting turn of events, as reported by Matteo Moretto, Barcelona have temporarily paused those discussions after Flick requested that Farinas remain with the first team during the opening phase of pre-season.
