For the ninth straight season, the Louisville football team is unranked in the preseason coaches poll.
The Cards were the top vote-getter outside of the top 25, receiving just five fewer points than No. 25 Missouri. U of L is also three spots behind No. 23 Clemson, despite being picked to finish ahead of the Tigers in the preseason ACC media poll.
U of L has two scheduled games against teams in the preseason top 25, including a season-opener against No. 10 Ole Miss in Nashville.

Renard, who ⁠was an emergency replacement for Tunisia during the World Cup in June, replaces Emerse Fae.
Fae's deal was not renewed after ⁠the World Cup despite the Ivorians reaching the knockout stages for the first time in four appearances before being eliminated by Norway in the last 32.

Arsenal have stepped up talks with Newcastle in a bid to sign Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports on Tuesday.
The Premier League champions reportedly had a recent £70 million ($93 million) offer rejected for Guimaraes, but are set to return with an improved offer.
Arsenal are keen on Newcastle captain Guimaraes after opting not to match Chelsea's British record £117 million swoop for England forward Morgan Rogers.
Guimaraes, 28, scored nine goals and produced eight ***** ists in all competitions for Newcastle last term.
Newcastle, who signed Guimaraes for £35 million from Lyon in 2022, are keen to avoid a repeat of the protracted transfer saga that ended with Alexander Isak joining Liverpool just before the transfer deadline last year.

What a glorious sentence. Training camps are underway in earnest, preseason kicks off this week and the season will be here before you can spell "Kyle Juszczyk" (which takes me about 25 business days on average). Whether you've been following the beats all summer or are just now tuning back in, one of your best tools for taking the temperature of the fantasy football community is Average Draft Position, or ADP.

But that ADP is subject to change — quite a lot — over the next month. So, as we hit the heart of mock drafts (and eventually real drafts) and these ADPs continue to shift, here are 10 players whose draft cost I'm watching closely.
The closer we get to September, the more ADP shifts away from the brainchild of degenerates and diehards — like me — and closer to the consensus of the average fantasy player. Oftentimes, that comes with a notable shift in perception on rookies. Running back Jeremiyah Love was drafted third overall out of Notre Dame and is the top rookie in fantasy ADP — a potentially game-changing talent. But the Cardinals entered training camp with a lot of question marks on offense and have raised even more with recent comments about James Conner and Tyler Allgeier. Historically speaking, Love's draft capital suggests he will be a workhorse, but a long look at Arizona's roster raises some red flags about efficiency and scoring chances. The breakdown of snaps and touches will likely remain something of a mystery until Week 1 (or beyond), so fantasy drafters will have to work off conjecture for now.

One of the questions that the Minnesota Vikings are going to have to come up with an answer for relatively soon is what to do with wide receiver Jordan Addison. They've already picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, which would appear to be the precursor to a long-term extension with the purple, and such an extension just continues to get more and more expensive.
On Tuesday morning, the Baltimore Ravens announced that they had signed wide receiver Zay Flowers to a four-year, $140 million contract extension with $108 million in guaranteed money. Those terms are nearly identical to the extension that Justin Jefferson signed two years ago. Jefferson's extension was also a four-year, $140 million pact with $110 million guaranteed. So, Zay Flowers is, officially, making "Justin Jefferson money."
Flowers and Addison went with back-to-back picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, with the Ravens taking Flowers at #22 overall and the Vikings selecting Addison at #23 . Thus far in their careers, Flowers has the edge in receptions (237 to 175) and receiving yardage (3,128 to 2,396, with Flowers going over the 1,000-yard mark twice), while Addison has found the end zone more times than Flowers has (22 touchdowns to 14).
Of course, Addison has had to compete with Jefferson for catches, which causes his numbers to take a bit of a hit. Flowers has led the Ravens in receptions in each of his three NFL seasons, while Addison has been the clear #2 wide receiver in the Minnesota offense. Them's the breaks, I guess.

Louisville will open the 2026 season as the first team out of the US LBM Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday via YouTube.
The Cardinals received 153 points from 72 voters, 26th-most in the country and five behind No. 25 Missouri. They have made the poll's preseason top 25 seven times but are still seeking their first appearance since 2017, when they ranked 17th. They received 13 votes in the final poll last year after posting a 9-4 record.
Louisville is also No. 27 in ESPN's FPI rankings with a projected win-loss record of 7.6-4.6 and 13.4% chance of making the College Football Playoff, the fourth-highest among ACC teams. The Cards have a prime opportunity to bolster their CFP resume when they open the season against No. 10-ranked Ole Miss on Sept. 6 in Nashville.

Ahead of preseason camp starting on Wednesday, the ramp up to the 2026 college football season continued on Tuesday with the release of the Coaches Poll, which slots the Texas Longhorns at No. 4 nationally.
With Texas receiving only two first-place votes from the coaches, five other teams received more, including No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 6 Indiana, the reigning national champions, as some skepticism surrounds the Longhorns after going from preseason No. 1 in both polls to losing two of the team's first five games and missing the College Football Playoff as a result.
That skepticism is notably at odds with the high expectations on the Forty Acres — it's national championship game or bust in head coach Steve Sarkisian sixth season, widely considered to the fourth and final year in college for redshirt junior quarterback Arch Manning, who returns for his second season as the starter surrounding by multiple projected first-round picks that make up one of the most expensive rosters in the sport.
Beginning with No. 1 Ohio State coming to Austin on Sept. 12, Texas is set to face seven preseason top-25 opponents, including No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 13 LSU, No. 18 Tennessee, and No. 25 Missouri, in what projects as one of the nation's most difficult schedules.

Incoming Major League Soccer Commissioner Larry Berg sees his role as continuing the trajectory of the league under his soon-to-be predecessor, Don Garber.
The 30-team league that Graber grew during his 27-year tenure now looks to Berg to capitalize on the success of the World Cup this past summer and guide the transition to a new international schedule next year.
"I think one of the reasons that I raised my hand is I feel like I have the enthusiasm and the passion to hopefully have other people, in some cases, see it through my eyes and understand where we're going and where it can go and what what it can be," Berg told The ****** ociated Press. "I'm very proud of where we already are. I think we've come a very, very long way."
Berg, a co-owner of LAFC, will formally take over as commissioner at the start of next year. Garber, who has served as the league's commissioner since 1999, will help guide the transition before moving into a new role as chairman.
Garber said the ideal candidate would unite the entire MLS ecosystem around a shared vision. And he believes the league will have that under Berg, who will become just the third commissioner in the history of the league.

Richard Childress Racing will have some adjustments to its driver lineups in 2027. Following Kyle Busch's tragic death, Austin Hill has driven the renumbered No. 33 Cup car. The organization has yet to name a replacement for 2027; however, their likely driver lineups for next year's NASCAR season have been revealed.
Hill is the leading candidate to drive the No. 33 Cup car next to Austin Dillon during the 2027 Cup Series season. With Hill's likely promotion to the Cup Series, it leaves two openings in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series. Chandler Smith is expected to drive one of the O'Reilly Series cars, with Carson Brown as the other favorite, as reported by FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass.
Smith appears to be at Richard Childress Racing either way, but Brown would likely replace Hill if he went to the Cup Series. After all, the current driver of the No. 21 O'Reilly car has been strong as Busch's replacement. Richard Childress Racing will undergo changes, and the likely lineups would be strong for the 2027 NASCAR season.

After wrapping up summer workouts with 11 players – 10 of them new – Seton Hall basketball coach Shaheen Holloway addressed the state of the team and the sport with reporters during a wide-ranging discussion Aug. 4. Here are five takeaways along with his comments.
Two of the Pirates' springtime commitments never made it to campus: 6-foot-8 Rutgers transfer Chris Nwuli and 6-foot-9 Brazilian and G League forward Nathan Mariano.
It was well known within Rutgers basketball circles that Nwuli's mother, who lives in the Las Vegas area, has been battling cancer so he'll likely stay in that area for the time being. Aggressive on both ends and embracing of defense, Nwuli seemed like a good fit for the Pirates and projected to contribute as a key part of the frontcourt rotation.
Holloway left it this way: "He has some personal issues he has to iron out and he won't be with us this year."
Mariano, who saw time with Brazil's senior national team in FIBA Americup and FIBA World Cup qualifying competition and in the G League averaged 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 29.4 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from 3-point range, hasn't passed eligibility muster with the NCAA.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) — Pakistan captain Babar Azam was denied his first test century in four years as West Indies fought back in the second and final cricket test on Tuesday.
Babar, who last scored a test century in December 2022 against New Zealand at Karachi, was run out for 88 by Brandon King's stunning direct throw from short cover before Pakistan's middle order collapsed and reached 333-6 at lunch on Day 3.
Pakistan still trails by 11 runs with Abdullah Shafique holding the fort at 132 not out and tailender Sajid Khan unbeaten on 16.
King picked up a lower back injury and had to be stretchered off after he fell awkwardly as his sharp throw ran out Babar at the striker's end when Shafique refused to go for a tight single and Babar couldn't recover his ground after running halfway to the wicket.
West Indies dried up runs through some disciplined bowling from Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales after Pakistan resumed at 266-2.

Riders at the Tour de France Femmes were subject to extra clothing checks before Tuesday's stage following claims some could be using extra padding in their bras to seek an aerodynamic advantage.
A communique from race organizers confirmed the checks after Dutch outlet Wielerflits reported some teams had raised concerns that padded bras could smooth the airflow around the body for the stage four time trial.
"Riders must be to the final checks before the race (bikes and outfit) no later than 10 minutes before their respective start time," the communique said.
"Particular attention will be paid to compliance with article 1.3.032 of the UCI regulations, including non-essential elements and clothing or other items/accessories worn by a rider (including but not limited to helmets, glasses, shoes or in-race communication devices) which could modify riders' morphology."
The UCI defines non-essential elements as "any element which does not have a purpose which is exclusively of clothing or protection, or which is not strictly necessary for the functionality of the clothing, or other item, or accessory".

The Brooklyn Nets came into the 2026 NBA offseason with the goal of improving the roster as much as possible following a 2025-26 season in which they finished with a 20-62 record. Brooklyn's biggest move of the summer was trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle and most of the fanbase believes that the team has improved.
As of this writing, most Nets fans feel that the roster has gotten better since the beginning of the offseason, according to a poll posted on NetsDaily. Out of 41 votes, 56% of the respondents believe that the team has improved somewhat while 37% feel that the roster has improved significantly when considering all of the moves made thus far.
In addition to trading for Randle, the Nets were somewhat active in free-agency as they signed former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Keon Ellis and former Orlando Magic center Mo Wagner. More to that point, Brooklyn also managed to re-sign forward Josh Minott and center Day'Ron Sharpe, who is looking to be a starter for the first time in his career.
As far as who the Nets lost over the course of the summer, the biggest subtraction was starting center Nic Claxton, who was traded to the Chicago Bulls as part of the Randle deal. Forward Ziaire Williams, who had arguably the best season of his career this past year, left Brooklyn in free-agency to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after being with the Nets over the past two seasons.
After a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, the Nets ultimately ended up with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, which they used to select promising point guard Mikel Brown Jr. out of Louisville. With Randle joining Sharpe and forward Michael Porter Jr., Brown will likely be in the starting backcourt with Egor Demin, who impressed during his time in the summer circuit. There are plenty of reasons for Nets fans to feel better about the team at this point in the offseason.

The hype for the upcoming Oregon football season has been building since January and college football coaches appear to be on board.
The Ducks are ranked No. 2 in the preseason US LBM coaches top 25 poll released Aug. 4, behind only Ohio State, which Oregon plays on Nov. 7 in Columbus, Ohio.
The Ducks, who finished 2025 with a 13-2 record and ranked fourth in the season-ending US LBM coaches poll, received six first-place votes from the 72 participating coaches in this year's preseason poll. The Buckeyes received the most first-place votes with 38, followed by defending College Football Playoff champion Indiana with 14, though the Hoosiers still landed at No. 6 in the poll.
Also in the top 25 from the Big Ten are No. 14 Southern California, which hosts the Ducks on Sept. 26 in the conference opener for Oregon, No. 16 Michigan, No. 17 Penn State, No. 19 Washington and No. 22 Iowa.

A lot has happened in the time between Brooks Bahr's commitment to and actual arrival at BYU.
Bahr signed with the Cougars in November 2023, as Mark Pope was leading the program into its inaugural Big 12 campaign.
Since then, Pope went to Kentucky and was replaced in Provo by Kevin Young, who has won 60% of his Big 12 matchups, reached a Sweet 16 and produced two first-round NBA draft selections — all while Bahr served as a missionary in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
"I think he's got the physicality to do well in our league. What I've seen out of his offensive game, he's a guy who can dribble, pass and shoot, stuff I've been talking about for a while. So I think he'll fit in, he'll fit in well."

On Aug. 4, 2012, swimming in what was hailed as the final race of his Olympic career, Michael Phelps helped the U.S. men's 4x100-meter medley relay team claim the gold medal at London's aquatic center.
It was the 18th gold medal of Phelps' record-setting Olympic career. He left the London 2012 Games with 22 Olympic medals overall.
But it turned out he wasn't done.

The Dodgers entered the 2026 season with ambitions of becoming team to three-peat in 26 years. Following Monday's trade deadline, they echoed that sentiment with a summer blockbuster and an encore.
Their string of deals began late Saturday night, as after suffering a 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox, they struck a deal that infuriated nearly the entire baseball world. The Dodgers landed two-time defending AL Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers while sending away outfield prospect Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and pitching prospect Brady Smith.
The addition of Skubal not only invigorates an already vaunted rotation (when fully healthy), it gives the Dodgers another left-handed option that is a proven innings eater. Before Skubal needed surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow, he had logged at least six innings of work in six of his first seven starts. He hasn't matched his pre-injury average start length since returning on June 13, but he has logged at least five innings in all but one of his nine final starts in Detroit.
For a Dodgers rotation that is still missing Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, adding Skubal in the mix keeps the six-man rotation as the norm for the pitching staff down the stretch. With Emmet Sheehan's demotion to Triple-A, the current rotation features Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Justin Wrobleski and Eric Lauer, and until the other three starters return, the Dodgers could implement a weekly bullpen game. Skubal will certainly headline the four-man rotation in the postseason, and the Dodgers have seven options to choose to accompany him come October.
Gauging what the postseason rotation will be a work in progress until October arrives. Skubal and Yamamoto are shoe-ins at the top, but the final two spots are completely up for grabs. Blake Snell is set to return next week after a final rehab start, while Tyler Glasnow has yet to embark on his rehab ***** ignment. The latter is projected to return sometime in September. Ohtani's status for returning to the mound in the regular season is unclear, though the team expects him back in October. The trio of Sasaki, Wrobleski and Lauer all were used exclusively in relief last year for both the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

Wide receiver Xavier Legette wasn't the only Carolina Panthers pass catcher who made an early exit from practice on Tuesday.
Tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders also had his day ended before the final whistle of this morning's training camp session. Sanders, per head coach Dave Canales, is being evaluated for what appeared to be an ankle injury.
"Yeah, it looked like an ankle—and he wasn't able to finish," Canales told reporters afterwards. "But he had a great day. So we'll evaluate him and see where he's at."
Sanders is entering his third NFL campaign. His second season saw him amass 29 receptions for 190 yards and a touchdown—down from his 33 catches and 342 yards as a rookie in 2024.
His fellow 2024 draftee in Legette, fortunately, was cleared of a concussion following his departure from the workout. Legette, who was carted off during seven-on-seven drills, fell down hard on his head and back while attempting a catch in the back of the end zone.

Marc-André ter Stegen completed his loan move to Ajax Amsterdam from FC Barcelona. The 34-year-old missed the World Cup due to injury as Germany instead recalled Manuel Neuer back from retirement.
Ter Stegen was part of Barcelona's last Champions League-winning squad in 2015. The former Borussia Mönchengladbach shot-stopper played 423 games for Barcelona before leaving the club for the first time at the start of the year.
His loan spell at fellow LaLiga side Girona was ended after only two games due to injury. However, Michel has seen enough to take him on loan for the second time after he joins Ajax following Girona's relegation from the Spanish top-flight.
Ter Stegen referred to his latest move as the "right option". The 44-time Germany international will be reunited with Julian Brandt at the Eredivisie club.

Carolina Panthers 2024 first-round draft pick Xavier Legette was carted off the field on Tuesday with an upper-body injury.
Panthers coach Dave Canales is expected to address the exact nature of the wide receiver's injury after practice.

Legette was trying to make a catch in the corner of the end zone when he came down hard on the back of his head. Trainers rushed to his side and Legette was later seen wiggling his fingers in the air in front of trainers before boarding a cart.
Players shook Legette's right hand before he was taken into the locker room.

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football didn't hold onto its No. 1 ranking in the US LMB Coaches Poll.
USA TODAY revealed the preseason top 25 during a live stream on Tuesday with the reigning national champions ranking at No. 6. The Hoosiers will open the season ranked in the coaches poll for only the third time since 1991.
After opening last season as the No. 19 team in the country, IU climbed to the top spot for the first time in program history by knocking off then No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten ****** le game. The Buckeyes are back in the top spot to open 2026 with Oregon — a team Indiana beat twice last year — ranked at No. 2.
The Hoosiers have a tough schedule this year with five games against ranked opponents, including No. 1 Ohio State, No. 14 USC, No. 16 Michigan, No. 19 Washington.

One of Carolina's key offensive players had an injury scare during Tuesday's practice, but should be OK sooner than later.
Head coach Dave Canales told reporters in his press conference that receiver Xavier Legette appeared to have suffered a stinger on a rough landing after making a catch during the session.
"Made a really nice play, high pointed it … came down really hard," Canales said. "Went in, evaluated him, cleared him of a concussion. But it looks like a stinger, so we're going to evaluate him more over the next day or so and make sure he's in the right spot.
"He wouldn't be playing in this game, but we have a nice little window to get him turned around and just see where he's at."
The Panthers are playing the Hall of Fame Game against the Cardinals on Thursday night, with their following practice slated for Sunday.
