Aaron Judge hit his first home run in nearly four months … and it highlighted a night in which the New York Yankees secured a postseason berth.
Judge, who missed three months of the 2026 season with a fractured rib, hit a three-run home run off of Minnesota Twins left-hander A.J. Minter in the eighth inning of an 8-3 win on Monday, Sept. 14. It was Judge's first round-tripper since May 24 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Judge now has 18 home runs in 65 games played this season.
Since his return to the Yankees' lineup on Sept. 8, Judge had gone 3-for-17 in five games played before clobbering a cutter from Minter into the third deck at Target Field in Minneapolis on Monday.
The Yankees entered Monday needing a win over the Twins or loss by the Toronto Blue Jays against the Detroit Tigers to clinch at least a wild card berth. Detroit closed out a 6-5 win moments before the Yankees defeated the Twins, making the Yankees the second American League team to secure a playoff spot.
Judge said the injury traced back to a diving play in Houston in late April. He played through rib and shoulder discomfort for about a month before the team finally shut him down May 31. He was hitting .248 through 59 games at the time – a career worst – with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs.

Matt LaFleur spent his entire offseason promising Green Bay Packers would finally learn how to finish games. Sunday in Minneapolis put that promise to the test immediately. The Packers built a healthy second-half lead, the same type of cushion that slipped away repeatedly last season, and it vanished again. What happened next, both on the field and in the press conference that followed, left fans furious.
Green Bay looked in control for most of Sunday's opener at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Packers led 22-10 in the third quarter behind Jordan Love, who threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns. Then everything unraveled. Minnesota Vikings scored 29 unanswered points in the second half, turning a comfortable lead into a 39-22 defeat.
The turning point came in the fourth quarter. With Green Bay up 25-17 after a penalty wiped a Vikings field goal off the board, LaFleur chose to go for it on fourth-and-1 instead of taking the points. Love was stopped on a quarterback sneak, and Minnesota took over on downs. The Vikings never let go from there.

The news that Tucker Kraft signed a new contract ahead of the Green Bay Packers' 2026 season opener has fired up former teammates, current teammates and fans.
Kraft is getting a four-year contract extension worth $75 million, plus a $26.5 million signing bonus, reports PackersNews' Tom Silverstein.
The tight end signed the contract in Lambeau Field facilities on Saturday before the team departed for Minneapolis for the Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Kraft, entering his fourth season, is making his highly anticipated return to game action after he tore his ACL in a Nov. 2 game last season.
He'll look to pick up where he left off prior to the injury. He was having a breakout season where a week prior had set career highs for receptions and receiving yards.

MINNEAPOLIS — The start to Kamario Taylor's 2026 season as Mississippi State football's quarterback has led to a crazy stat.
The Bulldogs have scored points on 12 consecutive possessions when Taylor has been on the field.
They took that streak into halftime on Sept. 12 with a 28-6 lead at Minnesota. MSU has scored four touchdowns on its four drives against the Gophers.
It's also the second straight time that Mississippi State has begun the game with four consecutive touchdowns.
Taylor is 11-for-13 with 181 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and 37 rushing yards.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Angel Martínez hit a two-run homer and his double in the ninth inning keyed the game-winning rally as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Friday night.
The Guardians moved two games ahead of Toronto in the race for the AL's third wild-card spot.
Martínez gave the Guardians a 2-1 lead in the seventh with his 15th homer of the season.
After the Twins tied it on Kalen Culpepper's RBI single in the seventh, Martínez hit a one-out double off Yoendrys Gómez (2-3) that moved Travis Bazzana to third. Bazzana scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Gómez and Brayan Rocchio brought home two more with a double.
Hunter Gaddis (4-3) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Cade Smith retired the side in the ninth for his 36th save.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., gave the cold shoulder when asked to weigh in on her son's home being raided by police after his convicted felon roommate was arrested.
Minneapolis police officers found while carrying out a search warrant on August 25 multiple weapons and ammunition in the shared home of Omar's son, Adnan Hirsi, 20, and his roommate Abdulrahman Abdi, 22. The warrant was obtained after Abdi was pulled over in a routine traffic stop and was found to have no driver's license or proof of insurance.
Abdi was released and the car was impounded, but a firearm was later found. As a convicted felon, it is illegal for Abdi to possess a firearm, so the property that he shares with Abdi was raided.

With the current total set at over/under 54.5 points, there's a scenario where Minnesota and Mississippi State easily clear that number, and we see a back-and-forth shootout. Both teams made improvements to their defenses in the offseason after rather disappointing 2025 campaigns.

Momentum, or lack thereof, is difficult to carry over from one year to the next.
In a competitive, talented NFC North, every division matchup is a big one, and both the Packers and Vikings will want to open the season with a confidence-boosting win over a rival given how last year ended.
Five things to watch and a prediction for Week 1:
The Packers have new starters at left tackle (Jordan Morgan), center (Sean Rhyan) and right guard (Jacob Monk), and Morgan, left guard Aaron Banks and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele are all either fighting through or returning from knee injuries. The first challenge for the 2026 offensive line? Brian Flores, a blitz-happy coordinator who thrives on creating havoc and uncertainty up front. The Packers offensive line got little to no time together during training camp, robbing the unit of cohesion entering the season. Can this group handle all the blitzes and stunts coming on Sunday? Communication and having confidence in the blocker next to you is so important to handling blitzes and movement, so the Packers front will likely be stressed early and often. Keeping Jordan Love protected, especially during the game's biggest situations (think: third down), will likely decide the winner of the opener.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kyler Murray became a superstar athlete as a kid growing up in Texas, won the Heisman Trophy with Oklahoma, was the first overall pick by Arizona in the NFL draft in 2019, and made the Pro Bowl after his second and third seasons in the league.
Since then, with a floundering Cardinals team and two major lower-body injuries contributing to the slide, Murray's career has veered off course. He can't hide it: His first game as quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon will be a big deal for him.
"Out of how many years I've played football, this has got to be right up there for most anticipated. I can't tell you how ready I am and excited to be on the field again," said Murray, who was sidelined last October by a foot injury and cut by the Cardinals in March.
The storyline gets even better: The Vikings host the division rival Green Bay Packers, and their new defensive coordinator is Jonathan Gannon, who was Murray's head coach in Arizona the last three years.

The Vikings are bringing Smith back for his 15th NFL season on a one-year contract worth $12.25 million, with the deal capable of reaching $16.25 million through incentives, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. The agreement comes just days before Minnesota opens the regular season against the Green Bay Packers, turning what looked like the end of Smith's career into one more run in purple.
The timing could hardly be better for the Vikings. Their safety room has been battered throughout training camp. CLEVELAND – Jack Flaherty is on his way back to the Detroit Tigers.
The 30-year-old right-hander will begin a rehab ******* ignment with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Sept. 6.
"Short stint," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said on Saturday before the Tigers played the Cleveland Guardians. "Basically, like another live BP, but we're going to have it in competition. So he may only go one inning. He may get two ups. We're not sure."
Flaherty is rehabbing from right flexor tendon inflammation, and has been throwing live bullpens in recent weeks while traveling with the Tigers, with fastball velocity around 93 mph, according to Hinch.
"The reality is setting in that it's going to be really hard to build him all the way back up into that five, six, or seven-inning pitcher," Hinch said Wednesday in Minneapolis. "But that doesn't mean that we won't be more creative with him if the recovery continues."

Second-year safety Zack Harden was the talk of the town for Gophers football in the offseason. He played just 14 defensive snaps last season as a true freshman, but the departure of Koi Perich left a golden opportunity for a young player to ******* ume a bigger role. Harden was getting plenty of hype in the spring and summer, and he showed why on Thursday night against Eastern Illinois.
Harden started at safety alongside Kerry Brown. He played 12 snaps at strong safety, six at slot cornerback and nine at free safety. He produced with four total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. Pro Football Focus (PFF) gave him a 79.2 defensive grade, which was the best in Minnesota's secondary.

Hailing from Covington, Georgia, Harden was heavily pursued as a high school prospect. He was just a three-star recruit, but he held notable top offers from programs such as Auburn, USC, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and many more. He was the Gophers' 11th-highest-rated signee in their 22-player class in the 2025 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite, and he has hit the ground running.
Minnesota has had a long history of producing elite safety talent since P.J. Fleck arrived at the school in 2017. Antoine Winfield Jr., Tyler Nubin, Jordan Howden and Koi Perich have all produced at an elite level. Brown has established himself, but Harden has all the traits to be the next star at the position.

Stocks took it as a gift. At noon, the S&P 500 had climbed just over 1%, the Nasdaq 1.4%, and the Dow tacked on 640 points for a 1.2% gain and its best session since Aug. 4. The 10-year Treasury yield eased to about 4.75% after spiking Wednesday.
The Fed's benchmark, the overnight rate it charges banks to borrow from each other, currently sits in a range of 3.50% to 3.75%, and markets have spent weeks bracing for it to go higher on Sept. 16. Higher rates make a boring government bond paying you nearly 5% look awfully good next to stocks so we can forgive the equity jockeys who have been deprived of good news for a few moons from getting a little giddy when Waller signaled he'd hold if August inflation behaves and knocked hike odds from 63.2% to 50.4%, per CME FedWatch. Even if those traders are rejoicing on what's basically now a coin flip.
July's vote was 9 to 3 to hold, with Beth Hammack in Cleveland, Neel Kashkari in Minneapolis, and Lorie Logan in Dallas all wanting a quarter point more, the most dissents at a single meeting since 2016. Not one governor joined them. Warsh, for all his talk about inflation being a choice, has voted to sit still both times he's run the room.

There was no smile, no joking around, no chitchat. He was in no mood to mess around.
"There's edge to the day because we hold ourselves to a higher bar," Hinch said before the Tigers played a mostly solid game, well, until their bullpen melted down again to force extra innings. But Spencer Torkelson hit a clutch homer in the 12th inning, then Javier Baez lofted a three-RBI double to make it even more comfortable, as the Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins, 11-6, at Target Field on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
At the moment Hinch spoke in a pregame session, the Tigers had lost 14 of their previous 17 games.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The body blows kept coming and the Tigers kept standing. Finally, in the 12th inning, Spencer Torkelson delivered a haymaker.

The Minnesota Twins paid tribute to future Hall of Fame pitcher Justin Verlander with a pregame video on Wednesday ahead of his final career series in Minnesota.
The video highlighted memorable AL Central matchups and messages from former Twins stars like Torii Hunter and Joe Mauer who battled against Verlander during his 21-year career.
"I just want to congratulate you on an incredible career," said Mauer, who had a lifetime batting average of .317 against Verlander.
"It was an honor to share the field and compete against you. The truth of the matter is you were a true ace."
Following his retirement announcement in July 2026, this series marks Verlander's final regular-season trip to Minneapolis as a member of the Tigers.

Priority Dispatch was founded in Cincinnati in 1973. Diamond Expedited began serving the greater Chicago area in 1995. The companies, which were bought from the same individual, also cover Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio; Indianapolis; Detroit and Milwaukee, with 43 employees and more than 500 independent-contractor drivers. Their combined delivery traffic is about 250,000 orders per year.
Inpax is active in seven markets across the South, including Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida. With 75 employees and more than 335 owner-operators it delivers more than 400,000 orders per year. In addition to e-commerce pickup and delivery, it offers local and regional truck brokerage and tractor trailer freight.

The wait is finally over! College football is back, and the Gophers open their 2026 regular season on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT against Eastern Illinois at Huntington Bank Stadium. Minnesota is currently favored to win by as many as 43.5 points on some sportsbooks, but the Panthers are already 1-0 on the season.
Here are our staff's predictions for Thursday night.
The Gophers were favored by a similar spread last season against FCS opponent Northwestern State, and they won that game 66-0. Oddly enough, the Demons also snapped a losing streak before playing Minnesota in that one.
A returning QB, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator makes me think Minnesota could get off to a hot start on Thursday night and cover the massive 43.5-point number. Dingler airmailed third base during a run-down, which led to a three-run inning for the Minnesota Twins, flipping a close game inside out. Then, Royce Lewis and Ryan Jeffers both hit three-run homers as the Twins scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to turn it into a rout, as the Twins pulled away with a 15-2 victory over the Tigers at Target Field on Tuesday, Sept.1.

A former Nebraska running back continues to impress during his first NFL preseason. Emmett Johnson had seven carries for 39 yards in the Kansas City Chiefs' 9-9 tie with the Seattle Seahawks.
The rookie started the game and split first-team reps with Emari Demercado. After three drives, Johnson left the game and did not return.
Johnson was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round with the 161st pick. The Minneapolis native was the first Husker running back selected in the NFL draft since the Detroit Lions selected Ameer Abdullah in the second round of the 2015 draft with the 54th pick.
The running back was named the Big Ten Running Back of the Year for his performance last season. In 12 games last season, he had 1,451 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 46 catches for 370 yards, bringing his all-purpose yards total to 1,821 yards, second in the nation for running backs.
Johnson appeared in 41 games in his Nebraska career and recorded 2,460 yards on 458 carries. He joined a Chiefs team that ranked near the bottom of the NFL in rushing last season.

The Boston Cannons weren't supposed to make it this far.
But after starting the season 1-4 and facing plenty of criticism, Boston is now headed to the semifinals.
The Cannons' defense held the Maryland Whipsnakes to seven goals while Coulter Mackesy scored a hat trick in a 9-7 quarterfinal win Saturday night in Minneapolis.
"It's been a process. We struggled early in the year," head coach Brian Holman said. "We're trying to find our way, a lot of moving pieces, new pieces. This league's not forgiving that way, so just patience and a lot of love and a lot of communication."
