SAO PAULO (AP) — Inter Porto Alegre defender Víctor Gabriel has been suspended from Brazilian soccer until Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Pec returns to training following recovery from a broken leg.
The sanction was handed down Tuesday by Brazil's Superior Court of Sports Justice, the country's highest independent body for sports discipline.
The court deemed a standard penalty insufficient given the severity of the incident. Pec suffered a left tibia fracture in a challenge from Víctor Gabriel in a league game on July 22.
While the court's suspension is capped at 180 days, it could end sooner if Pec is medically cleared to return to practice ahead of that time. The decision can be appealed.
Víctor Gabriel told the court he had no intention of causing injury to Pec, who played for LA Galaxy in the MLS before joining Cruzeiro for a club-record fee of at least $12 million during the World Cup break.

The final few weeks of the summer transfer window will be busy for Real Madrid, with signings and exits expected. In terms of incomings, Yan Diomande and Rodri are wanted, while there are several first team players that have been earmarked as candidates to leave before the end of next month.
Raul Asencio, Eduardo Camavinga and Franco Mastantuono (loan) are players that Real Madrid want to move on, while they could also be convinced to sell Gonzalo Garcia amid strong interest from Alvaro Arbeloa's Fulham. The La Fabrica graduate would bring in much-needed funds in the event that Diomande and Rodri are signed, although head coach Jose Mourinho would prefer him to remain at the Bernabeu.
Mourinho considers Gonzalo to be a differential option in attack. He's the closest thing that Real Madrid have to a target forward, and if the decision is eventually made for him to stay, it could mean that a different attacking player departs in his place.
That player could be Endrick. Despite reports earlier in the summer that Mourinho wanted to keep the Brazil international in his squad for the 2026-27 season, Marca have reported that Real Madrid are now considering whether to loan him out again.
Real Madrid see Endrick as one of their biggest stars for the future, but right now, his chances of regular playing time look slim – especially if Diomande joins, as expected. Stirling earned his Ultimate Fighting Championship contract with a knockout win onContender Series in 2024. He was sharing the locker room withQuemuelOttoni, who was set to face KodySteele. Ottoni eventually didn't make the walk to the Octagonand Stirling has now detailed what happened behind the scenes.
Stirling (10-0) recently revealed that Ottoni (12-4) was aggressivetowards Steele, and even other fighters, throughout fight weekuntil the weigh-ins. However, the Brazilian's nerves got the betterof him right before stepping out for his bout and he allegedlystarted crying backstage, even ripping off his hand wraps multipletimes.

Cutman Brad Tate, who was in charge of wrapping Ottoni, refused torepeat it after a point. The bout was eventually called off andSteele won his contract in a later Contender Series outing.

"The guy that was on Contenders [Series] was probably the worstone," Stirling told Full Send MMA. "He was fighting Kody Steele. Hechoked out AlexPereira back in the day. Man United want a new midfielder despite bringing both Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to the Old Trafford club. The Red Devils are now keeping tabs on Danilo, with Newcastle United also keen on bringing the former Nottingham Forest star back to the Premier League. Miami officially unveiled the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder on Wednesday after he signed a two-year deal. The contract also includes an option to extend his stay until 2029.
However, the excitement around the signing has been overshadowed by an MLS investigation into an alleged tampering issue involving the acquisition of the Brazilian midfielder.
Under MLS rules, clubs can place players on a discovery list, giving them the first opportunity to negotiate with those players and preventing rival teams from pursuing them without first reaching an agreement.
LA Galaxy reportedly held Casemiro's discovery rights before Miami secured them in a deal believed to be worth around £750,000.

Sompo International's wholly owned Brazilian subsidiary, Sompo, has signed an agreement to acquire local peer Fator Seguradora.
The value of the transaction has not been disclosed and the deal remains subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities.
According to the translated version of the announcement, the acquisition is part of Sompo's strategy to expand its presence in the corporate insurance market by widening its portfolio of specialised solutions.
The company said the deal will strengthen its position in business lines in which Fator Seguradora has consolidated operations and recognised expertise, particularly property, guarantee and financial lines.
It said completion of the transaction is expected to further reinforce its market position.

Britain's oldest sugar factory is to close because of sky-high energy costs.
The site at Cantley, in Norfolk, was the first sugar-processing factory to open in the UK and has been operating since 1912.
More than 100 people face losing their jobs as part of the closure. The shutdown of the plant, which is operated by British Sugar, could come as early as February 2027.
The beet-processing factory produces 130,000 tonnes of sugar per year and its closure would leave Britain needing to import more sugar from places such as Brazil.
British Sugar, part of Primark-owner ******* ociated British Foods, blamed the closure on soaring energy prices.
