Rob Lowe's son, actor John Owen Lowe, shared an emotional poem about hope on his Instagram page over the weekend, just days after his 13-year-old cousin Fiona died by suicide.
The poem he posted was Emily ******* inson's "Hope Is the Thing With Feathers," which reads, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all. And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore must be the storm that could abash the little bird that kept so many warm."
It concludes, "I've heard it in the chillest land, and on the strangest sea; yet, never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me."

Costco is famously rooted in Washington state, with its headquarters in Kirkland (which is also the name of its signature brand) and its first official store operating out of Seattle's industrial SoDo neighborhood. But did you know that the wholesale club behemoth can trace its true origins much further south, and to a famous connection? As it turns out, a line can be drawn from Costco to Howard Hughes, the famous movie producer, aviator, and eccentric business tycoon.
Among his many properties, Hughes once owned a rather large warehouse in San Diego, California, that was eventually turned into an early wholesale store called Price Club. It went on to merge with Costco in the 1990s, forever cementing the Costco-Hughes connection. Sure, it may not be the strongest celebrity-Costco connection ever, and Hughes himself never set foot inside one of the chain's stores, but it's one that Costco can be proud to have as part of its storied history nonetheless.

Black Americans have heard it all before. We've been called "lazy," "not as qualified," "uneducated," "uncultured," and all manner of other reasons the world can come up with for why our disenfranchisement is somehow of our own design and perpetuation. But there's a long history behind why.
During an appearance on Cam Newton's "Funky Friday" podcast, actor Da'Vinchi certainly kept it funky when he revealed why, from his experience, non-American actors are offered American parts and kicked off a diaspora war in the process.
Roughly 11 minutes into the conversation, Newton star asks the 30-year-old "All-American" star what he thinks about non-American actors getting American parts in television and film. The actor says there is a perception that Americans are lazy, later lumping Black Americans into the conversation when discussing why non-American Black actors may be cast in Black American roles.
"What I had to learn early is that this is the entertainment business, not the entertainment arts," the "Why Did I Get Married Again?" actor said. "When there's a business, there's certain things involved."

Veteran actor, singer, and stage star Illy Gorlizki, a defining figure in Israeli culture for more than seven decades, has died at 91.
Israeli actor, singer and theater figure Illy Gorlizki, one of the most recognizable figures in Israeli culture across generations, died at the age of 91, his partner and leading cultural institutions said on Monday.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1935, Gorlizki spent more than seven decades working in theater, film, television and Israeli music, taking part in some of the formative moments of Israeli popular culture.
Gorlizki began his theater career as a teenager. At 17, he was accepted to the drama school affiliated with the Ohel Theater and simultaneously began appearing in small roles. During his military service, he joined the Central Command entertainment troupe, where he sang and performed alongside several young talents who would later become pillars of Israeli entertainment.
He secured his place in Israel's cultural pantheon in 1964, when he starred as Shlomo in the celebrated musical King Solomon and Shalmai the Shoemaker alongside Yona Atari. The musical, based on a play by Sami Gronemann, translated and adapted by Nathan Alterman with music by Sasha Argov, became a huge success and was performed about 1,000 times.

The filmmaker behind Dhar Mann Studios, whose inspirational videos reach hundreds of millions of viewers each week, has his sights set on something bigger: Hollywood.
"I actually see other major studios as the competition," Mann tells USA TODAY during a tour of his Burbank, California, studios. "I don't really see a difference between any of the big studios and what they've built and the trajectory that we're on."
It's an ambitious outlook for a company that started nearly eight years ago in Mann's downtown LA apartment, where he filmed videos on iPhones.
Today, Dhar Mann Studios has more than 170 million followers across social media and a team of about 250 people. The content, drawing nearly 300 million views a week, has expanded beyond social platforms through partnerships with Samsung, Fox and Disney, including a recently announced 20-episode order from Disney.

The Venice Film Festival may revolve around cinema, but fashion has become an essential part of its annual spectacle. The 2026 edition once again transformed the Lido into a showcase for couture, sharp tailoring and unexpected styling. Chad Lowe's 17-year-old daughter, Mabel, has shared a touching tribute following the death of her younger sister, Fiona Hepler Lowe.
The actor-director's 13-year-old daughter died in a hospital on Sept. 29, and the manner of her death was determined to be a suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shared Saturday, Oct. 3, Mabel shared multiple photos of her and Fiona growing up together. The post includes photos of them smiling at a beach, holding hands while crossing a street and sitting across from each other on a red wagon stroller.
"I love you so much fiona ❤️," she wrote. "i wish your short time here was easier and i hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, i hope you knew just how much."

Los Angeles County judge granted a temporary restraining order against Olivier Martinez for abusing his ex-wife, Halle Berry, as per the allegations made by the French actor. According to him, Halle Berry choked their 12-year-old son, Maceo, during a fight between them at her house.
In court documents that were initially disclosed to TMZ, 60-year-old Olivier alleges that 60-year-old Berry physically attacked their son in a violent manner on September 26. Also, he is requesting custody rights over the minor. Berry's lawyer describes the court document as being baseless.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee governor ordered an outside investigation and halted executions late Wednesday, hours after an inmate survived a lethal injection attempt.
Tennessee officials were unable to put Christa Gail Pike to death for a 1995 murder after administering two doses of a lethal drug. A death penalty expert said it was an unprecedented failure.
Gov. Bill Lee said in a statement that he has ordered "a comprehensive, third-party review to determine exactly what occurred" and that scheduled executions will not be carried out this year.
"Carrying out a lawfully imposed sentence is among the State's most serious responsibilities, and the people of Tennessee expect it to be done in a manner that is not only legal and constitutional, but is effective," he said.
Tennessee only has one other execution scheduled this year.

TJX Companies is confident in navigating weather-related events such as El Niño due to its warehouse distribution model, CEO Ernie Herrman said in a Q2 earnings call on Aug. 19.
Herrman said since the company keeps its liquidity and shipping out of its warehouses, it has better control than traditional retailers. Inventory doesn't need to go straight to the stores if the off-price retailer thinks there's going to be an unusual weather pattern in a certain region, he added.
"[T]his is a benefit of our model where we stage goods in our warehouses versus goods at most brick-and-mortar retailers come into the warehouse and have to go out," Herrman told **** ysts. He added that the company's "planning organization is really good at reacting to any wild swings in weather or natural disasters or any of those red flags."
Off-price retailers and classic retailers tend to have different supply chain models when it comes to how they manage their inventory, but it's not one-size fits all, Dheera Anand, a partner at Bain and Co., told Supply Chain Dive in an interview. The supply chain strategy Hermann described in TJX's earnings call is known as the hold and flow, or staged, model, Anand said.

Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $1.7 million, up 44% from a year earlier, as the company expanded its work with US defense and security customers and moved forward with a strategic review process.
Ocean Power Technologies ran three PowerBuoy systems off Southern California for a U.S. Department of Homeland Security maritime domain awareness program, integrated with Anduril's Lattice platform and including a deployment beyond 1,000 meters depth, calling it the company's largest deployment and recurring revenue contract to date.
Ocean Power Technologies also deployed a PowerBuoy system off New Jersey for Rutgers University and delivered a WAM-V unmanned surface vehicle to Stevens Institute of Technology within five weeks of receiving the order.

On September 14, Coda Octopus Group (NASDAQ:CODA) reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 results that quietly crossed a threshold the company had never reached in its public history: positive retained earnings, after years of operating at an accumulated deficit. Revenue rose 9.2% year over year to $7.7 million, and pretax income climbed 16% to $1.8 million, even as instability in the Middle East knocked down the marine technology unit that has long been the company's calling card. The reason the quarter held together anyway comes down to where the growth actually showed up.
Defense engineering revenue jumped 68.3% to $2.7 million during the quarter, and the momentum did not look like a one-time ****** p. Sustainment spares orders have already topped $2.4 million year to date, and one prime contractor customer's new multiyear repair and sustainment award has since fed additional subcontract work back to Coda Octopus. On the newer end of the business, the company's US defense engineering team is now supporting several prime contractors building rugged, deployable RF electronic warfare systems for unmanned platforms, helicopters, airborne pods, and ground vehicles.
The DAVID diving system added its own proof points. Coda Octopus has delivered 24 DAVID systems to the US Navy to date, including 16 untethered units earlier in the year, and the Navy's authorization for use ****** sment on that untethered system was completed during the year, clearing it for full operational deployment. Since the quarter closed, the Navy has placed about $1.4 million in additional orders covering tethered systems and DAVID Flex adoption, including four units bought specifically for diving school and academy training. A European navy that already bought in is also expected to firm up a procurement roadmap later this year, while the new Nano sonar is being tested by subsea robotics OEMs and research groups for next-generation autonomous platforms. All of that arrived alongside $31.7 million in cash, no debt, and a balance sheet management says can fund acquisitions.
None of that offsets what happened in marine technology, the segment that still generates the largest share of revenue. Marine tech sales fell 15.2% to $3.4 million as customer activity slowed across the Middle East and parts of Asia, and hardware revenue specifically dropped 17.8% to $2.3 million. Improved rental utilization, with rental revenue up 131.1%, cushioned the blow but did not reverse it, and management has tied the weakness directly to geopolitical conditions it cannot control.
