SAO PAULO, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won a historic fourth term on Sunday, the country's electoral court said, in a shock result that defied polls, precedent and global anti-incumbent sentiment to put the brakes on a wave of right-wing election victories across Latin America.
However, his opponent Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, refused to accept defeat and said he would ask for the result to be annulled due to a Sunday ruling from a Supreme Court justice that extended voting for two hours.
Bolsonaro led the election's first round but lost in the runoff by over 4 million votes, rattling Brazilian financial markets which had bet on his victory. His refusal to concede defeat has echoes of his father's reaction after losing to Lula in 2022. Jair Bolsonaro never accepted his loss and was later sentenced by the Supreme Court to 27-years in prison for plotting a coup to remain in power.
The scale of Flavio Bolsonaro's loss to Lula — by more than twice his father's losing margin — and the fact his campaign also asked for an extension due to rains in the conservative-leaning south make any annulment unlikely, **** ysts said.

Bruce Willis' beloved blended family is cautiously optimistic that some of the new treatments for dementia may help his situation, a source tells Examiner.
"They're all looking into everything and they are open-minded even about risky drugs and surgeries that are still in the clinical trials phase," reveals the source. "Anything Bruce might be remotely eligible for, they're inquiring about."
Wife Emma Heming Willis has become a fierce advocate for frontotemporal dementia awareness after Bruce, 71, received his devastating diagnosis in 2023, even launching the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver support in March.
The Die Hard star shares daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, with the former model, 50, and daughters Rumer, 38, Scout, 35, and Tallulah, 32, with ex-wife Demi Moore.
"They're all still Bruce's biggest advocates and cheerleaders," says the source. "And they point to the idea that the Bruce they have always known is still in there somewhere, because they can see it in his eyes."

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he is following the upcoming Brazilian election “very closely,” referring to Brazil as a “very important" country. "The people of Brazil are fantastic people,” he told reporters outside the White House. “It’s a very important election.”
The U.S. State Department later announced the suspension of its consular services in Brazil ahead of the election taking place on Sunday, citing unspecified security concerns. “U.S. citizens seeking emergency ****** istance during this time should not come to the Embassy, the Consulates, or other U.S. diplomatic facilities,” the security alert advised.

Brazilians are heading to the polls for a set of federal elections spanning congressional and gubernatorial races, alongside the first round of the presidential election votes. It’s set to be a decisive moment for Latin America’s largest nation, as the region has seen a shift toward the right in recent years. An Oct. 25 runoff is expected, as polls show a tight contest between leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and far-right Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was convicted last year for plotting a coup to overturn his 2022 election loss. Trump led the conservative voices denouncing the conviction, referring to the trial as a “witch hunt.”
While Trump has acknowledged his active interest as Brazil votes on its political future, there are concerns he could be too involved. Trump and his Administration have been accused of attempting to interfere with the high-stakes overseas election.

On August 6, Millicom International Cellular (NASDAQ:TIGO) released its second-quarter 2026 results, and the numbers pulled in two directions at once. Revenue jumped 59.4% year over year to $2.18 billion, while Adjusted EBITDA crossed $1 billion for the first time in the company's history at $1.01 billion, up 58% from a year earlier. Yet net profit attributable to company owners fell 83.9% to just $109 million. Investors weighing this quarter have to decide which of those two stories actually describes the business.
The headline figures are hard to ignore. Service revenue reached $2.04 billion in the quarter, up 60.1% year over year, while H1 2026 revenue climbed to $4.16 billion from $2.74 billion a year earlier, a 52.3% increase. Equity free cash flow hit a quarterly record of $327 million, up 50.1% from a year ago, and leverage actually fell to 2.73x even after Millicom absorbed acquisitions in Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay. That combination, rising cash generation alongside falling leverage during an acquisition spree, is the kind of signal that tends to matter more than a single quarter's headline growth rate.
Management is backing that signal with cash. Millicom already declared a $3.00 per share dividend in May, to be paid out quarterly over the next 12 months, and on August 5, the board approved an additional interim dividend of $1.50 per share, split into two $0.75 installments due January 15, 2027, and April 15, 2027. The company also raised its full-year 2026 equity free cash flow guidance from at least $900 million to around $1.1 billion, while lowering its year-end leverage target from about 2.5x to below 2.5x. CEO Marcelo Benitez pointed to Ecuador and Uruguay as evidence the integration playbook works, saying both markets have reached margins and cash generation broadly in line with the Millicom average, with Colombia and Chile now showing early improvement on the same path.
Strip out the acquisitions, and the picture looks far less dramatic. Organic revenue growth was just 4.3% in the quarter and 4.2% for the first half, a fraction of the 59.4% and 52.3% reported figures. Most of what shows up in the headline number is Millicom buying its way to a bigger top line, not the existing business accelerating on its own.
The profit line raises a separate question. Net profit attributable to company owners dropped to $109 million from $676 million a year earlier, and the first-half figure fell 74.9% to $218 million from $869 million, even as EBITDA and cash flow set records over the same stretch. That gap between a surging EBITDA number and a collapsing bottom line is the kind of divergence that deserves scrutiny rather than a shrug. Capital spending is climbing too, up 51.2% to $234 million in the quarter and 48.8% to $426 million for the half, running well ahead of the organic growth rate it is meant to fund. And the balance sheet is still in motion: in July 2026, Bolivia took on five new local bank loans totaling roughly $44 millio

SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilian presidential candidate Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro is under investigation for corruption, money laundering and tax evasion for receiving millions of dollars from a disgraced banker to finance a movie about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Brazil's top court unsealed several documents late Thursday that show Sen. Bolsonaro, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's primary opponent, is under investigation for receiving 61 million reais ($12 million) from a banker at the center of a corruption scandal to produce an unreleased movie ******* led "The Dark Horse."
The investigation, which centers on whether the Bolsonaro family misused the funds and whether the payments were properly reported to Brazilian authorities, threatens to undermine Sen. Bolsonaro's bid for the presidency. The first round of elections is slated for Oct. 4, and the senator is locked in a tight race with Lula.
The banker, Daniel Vorcaro, who was arrested in March, is accused of defrauding many of Banco Master's 800,000 clients, including several state government pension funds, out of hundreds of millions of dollars by convincing them to make questionable investments. The scandal has engulfed several high-ranking officials in Brazil.
The allegations first became public in May. Sen. Bolsonaro has denied any wrongdoing and said Friday during a campaign event in the Amazonian city of Manaus that he was seeking private investment for the movie.

In her most candid interview yet, Emma Heming Willis opens her heart to talk as never before about the reality of living with someone who has frontotemporal dementia (FTD), the condition affecting her husband, the actor Bruce Willis.
Emma recounts how she managed to transform the brutal shock of a diagnosis that made her feel as though her world was crumbling around her into an inspiring life mission, writing her book, The Unexpected Journey, to help caregivers of loved ones with dementia
It is a unique account where pain coexists with daily laughter, sustained by the unbreakable bond of the couple's blended family. Alongside their children, Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, Bruce's eldest daughters – Rumer, 38, Scout, 35, and Tallulah, 32 – and his former wife, Demi Moore, have all pulled together, guided by a firm resolve to cherish every moment of happiness and celebrate the present amid what experts call "the long goodbye".

Emma, you've mentioned that writing this book was a painful but necessary process. Was there any particular chapter or memory that was difficult to put into words?

BRASILIA, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Brazil's wealthiest captured a record share of national income under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, tax-return data show, offering a striking counterpoint to the leftist leader's effort to convince voters that gains have been widely shared under his administration as he seeks reelection in October.
Lula has pointed to falling inequality, as measured by a record-low Gini coefficient in 2024, and rising employment as evidence that his administration prioritizes poorer Brazilians.
But tax-return data paint a more complex picture: high interest rates, partly a consequence of increased government spending, fueled a boom in financial income that disproportionately benefited the wealthy, even as stronger labor markets, wage gains, and social programs improved conditions at the bottom of the income distribution.
"If government benefits, on the one hand, are well targeted, they can have a positive social impact," said Otaviano Canuto, a former World Bank vice president.

Brennan **** et Management recently released its Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Investors were optimistic about a potential truce with Iran, highlighted by a mid-June memorandum for negotiations on regional security and sanctions, causing oil prices to drop and the market to rally. Despite geopolitical uncertainties, investors remain focused on a surge in AI infrastructure spending, which is expected to heavily influence the global economy, although questions about the returns from this investment loom. In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Brennan **** et Management highlighted Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) as a notable contributor. Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) is a telecommunications and media company that provides cable and mobile services in Latin America. On August 28, 2026, Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) stock closed at $93.38 per share. The one-month return of Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) was -1.10%, and its shares gained 93.04% over the past 52 weeks. Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) has a market capitalization of $15.64 billion.
Brennan **** et Management stated the following regarding Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Millicom International Cellular S.A. (NASDAQ:TIGO) and GTX operate in vastly different businesses, but our investment journey with each shares some similarities. We believe that both are good businesses. TIGO is an oligopoly of an essential service (broadband and cell phone). Meanwhile, GTX is an oligopoly provider of turbochargers to the automotive industry with a potentially valuable new product portfolio focused on industrial and electric vehicle (EV) markets. At the time of purchase, both stocks were hated and exceptionally cheap. TIGO operated in riskier Central and South American markets and had a mixed operating history (to be kind). The prior management team executed a fantastic acquisition (buyout of minority partner in Guatemala) but funded it via a rights offering at stock prices ~60% below where the deal was announced. GTX was a post bankruptcy special situation name, and we initially bought preferred shares that ultimately were forcefully converted to common stock. As EV sales expanded across the world, there was understandable concern that GTX's core turbocharger business was at risk and huge uncertainty arose about whether the company could ever crack the EV market. At the time of purchase TIGO traded for ~17% forward free cash flow yield (post rights offering) while GTX sported valuations only slightly higher…." (Click here to read the full text)

Napco Security Technologies (NASDAQ:NSSC) held its fiscal fourth quarter 2026 earnings call on August 24, and the numbers it reported were close to a best-case scenario in the company's own history. Net revenue hit a quarterly record of $55.8 million, full-year revenue crossed the $200 million mark for the first time, and the company raised its dividend while sitting on $138 million in cash and zero debt. Buried in the same call, though, is a $16 million litigation charge still working its way through the income statement.
The engine under all of this is Napco's StarLink radio business, which reports monitoring fees the way a cable company reports subscriptions. Recurring service revenue reached $25.3 million in the quarter, up 12.9%, and carried a gross margin of 90.1%. Based on July 2026 activity, the company said its annualized recurring revenue run rate is now around $103 million. Starlink radio sales grew 40% year over year and 30% sequentially in the quarter, which CEO Kevin S. Buchel called one of the highest growth rates in company history, adding, "Radio sold today becomes recurring revenue tomorrow." That growth has a long runway attached, since Buchel said the shift away from copper phone lines will keep running until the end of the decade across more than 2 million buildings still needing to switch to cellular communicators.
The rest of the business held up its end too. Intrusion and access control sales rose 20.9% in the quarter, powered by a 35.8% jump in intrusion products including StarLink radios, and door locking revenue climbed 11.1% for the full year on a 19.7% increase in Alarm Lock sales. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter grew 44.3% to $20.6 million, and full-year non-GAAP diluted EPS rose 34.5% to $1.60. Free cash flow reached $59.2 million for the year, funding a dividend increase to $0.17 per share, a 13.3% raise payable Oct. 2, 2026, while the balance sheet carried $138 million in cash and marketable securities as of June 30, 2026, and no debt at all.
The headline profit numbers hide a rougher full-year picture in one spot. A $16 million litigation settlement recorded in the fiscal third quarter pulled full-year operating income down 1.3% to $45.6 million, even though quarterly operating income jumped 52.5%. Some of the quarter's gross margin expansion to 61.3% also came from a source that will not repeat indefinitely, since about 600 basis points of it was tariff refunds tied to the American Infrastructure and Industrial Power Act. CFO Andrew J. Vuono also flagged that data center expansion is pushing up the cost of electronic parts, even as the company says it can still ship on time.

Sandhill Investment Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The letter highlighted a strong second quarter for equity markets, with the S&P 500 up about 15% and projected earnings growth at the fastest rate in five years. Despite challenges like tensions with Iran and lower oil prices, the semiconductor sector and AI advancements drove significant stock price increases. In fixed income, rising yields have made corporate bonds appealing, offering over 5% returns. However, consumer sentiment is waning, and the savings rate is at a six-decade low, raising caution about the economy. Investment trends suggest that while overall market valuations are high, quality businesses present selective opportunities for long-term gains amidst short-term volatility. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Sandhill Investment Management highlighted Badger Meter, Inc. (NYSE:BMI) as a new holding. Badger Meter, Inc. (NYSE:BMI) is a US-based flow measurement, quality, control, and communication solutions company focusing on Utility water smart metering solutions and software technologies. On August 26, 2026, Badger Meter, Inc. (NYSE:BMI) closed at $137.15 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $3.98 billion. Badger Meter, Inc. (NYSE:BMI) posted a one-month return of 5.18%, while its shares lost 26.46% over the past 52 weeks.
Sandhill Investment Management stated the following regarding Badger Meter, Inc. (NYSE:BMI) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Despite the elevated broad market valuation and the caution related to the consumer, quality businesses are being valued more cheaply than they have been in a long time, and we are putting capital to work. We remain selective, but individual businesses are presenting compelling value.
We recently initiated a position in Badger Meter, Inc. (NYSE:BMI), a pure-play water technology company. Badger holds a leading position in smart water meters and cellular advanced metering infrastructure technology. It sells into an oligopoly market with high switching costs and municipal utility customers that value reliability over price. The stock pulled back sharply after a temporary air pocket in revenue growth tied to project timing, rather than any change in long-term demand. We believe the multidecade replacement cycle for aging water infrastructure, combined with increasing technology adoption, gives Badger a durable growth runway, and the recent weakness provided an attractive entry point. We tracked Badger Meter on our watchlist for years before business fundamentals and valuation aligned to create an attractive entry point."

As we look toward 2027, the contrast between a high-flying satellite newcomer and a legacy aerospace giant creates a unique dilemma for investors. You must choose between AST ***** eMobile Inc (NASDAQ:ASTS) and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA).
AST ***** eMobile is pioneering a ***** e-based cellular network, while Boeing continues to be a ***** an in commercial aviation and defense. This comparison pits a speculative, rapid-growth technology story against a massive industrial turnaround effort. Deciding which to buy requires balancing the potential for massive disruption against the stability of established manufacturing.
AST ***** eMobile is building the first ***** e-based cellular broadband network designed to connect directly to standard smartphones for commercial and government use. Its strategy, detailed in its latest annual report, relies on partnering with mobile network operators like AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) and Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) to fill coverage gaps for nearly 3 billion subscribers. With definitive agreements with these major carriers and various U.S. government agencies, customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business. That said, it also counts Vodafone Group (NASDAQ:VOD) and Saudi Telecom Co as strategic international partners who help it navigate local regulatory markets.
In FY 2025, revenue reached approximately $70.9 million, a substantial jump from the $4.4 million reported in the prior fiscal year. The company reported a net loss of nearly $342 million for the period. While revenue growth is accelerating as the company begins its commercial rollout, profitability remains a distant goal during this build-out phase.
The current debt-to-equity ratio is roughly 1.2x, showing the company relies more on debt than equity to fund its operations. Free cash flow, which is cash flow from operations minus capital expenditures, was more than negative $1.1 billion for FY 2025, as the firm invested heavily in its proprietary manufacturing and launch capabilities.

Crossroads Capital LLC, an investment management firm, published its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The Fund increased by 11.5% net of fees and expenses during the quarter. Since its founding, the fund has compounded at a net rate of 17.9%. By the end of June 2026, the fund's overall non-delta-adjusted gross and net exposures were 115.0% and 86.9%, respectively. In Q2, the S&P 500 rebounded 14.9%, its best since 2020, as market uncertainty eased. The oil market showed a transition, with Brent crude prices fluctuating. AI and semiconductors thrived, with 25% earnings growth. The quarter underscored a key principle: risk is priced continuously but resolved discontinuously. Small-cap benchmarks hit new highs, though the Magnificent 7 saw modest gains. In Q2, market activity focused on adjustments rather than facts, capitalizing on high option premiums. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.

Crossroads Capital stated the following regarding AST ***** eMobile, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTS) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"AST ***** eMobile, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTS): Q2 picked up exactly where Q1 left off. As we've stated before, the transition we laid out last quarter—from R&D stage startup to operational scaleup—went from "underway" to "unmistakable" over the last three months. It charged us a toll along the way, however: The BB7 satellite launched on April 19 but was then lost when Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket failed during deployment. The failure was cleanly attributable to Blue Origin, not to AST; it amounted to a ~$125 million write-off (partially covered by launch insurance, and claims have been filed). AST's response on the May call was the right one, citing its 33 satellites (now 42, as of this writing) in advanced stages of production. So, yes, BB7 was a loss, but it's moving on to the next launch.
First-quarter results in May landed with modest revenue from gateways and government milestones, guidance reaffirmed, and. roughly $3.5B of cash. More important, the FCC granted commercial authorization for ***** eMobile service in the United States, covering a network of up to 248 satellites. So the regulatory question for the home market is now answered. Block 1 satellites also set a 98.9 Mbps peak-speed record to unmodified smartphones, with Block 2 expected to nearly double it..."

Aug 15 (Reuters) - Prediction market operator Kalshi accused Nevada's gaming regulator of violating federal law in a statement on Saturday after it sought daily penalties of $120,000 a day over the firm's alleged failure to comply with a geofencing order.
• Board investigators successfully placed nine trades on Kalshi's mobile application while connected to cellular networks in Nevada, a day after a court-ordered deadline for the company to have a complete geofencing solution in place, according to a court filing seen by Reuters.
• Kalshi in a statement said it hired GeoComply, a vendor licensed by Nevada's gaming regulator at the state's request, and that it kept the state updated throughout.
• Nevada investigators misrepresented their residences to Kalshi, violating federal law, and at least one circumvented the company's own blocking measures, Kalshi's lawyers said.
• A judge in the western U.S. state of Nevada in April issued a preliminary injunction barring Kalshi from offering such contracts in the state without obtaining a gaming license.

T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s shares are down by 26% over the past year and by 8% year-to-date. As with other carriers, the firm's narrative depends on its subscriber growth, and more recently, on its ability to compete with ******* eX. The rocket firm, which now also markets itself as an AI firm, also operates the largest satellite internet constellation in the world. ******* eX also aims to offer its cellular service based on its satellites. On August 6th, Cramer discussed T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s latest earnings results:
"Some of these are, actually fear of, what's going to happen. I mean, look, T-Mobile was not perfect, it's a good example. T-Mobile was not perfect, it was deceleration of what I'm used to. And then it's a one-two punch, because it's that and then it's ******* eX."
After T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) reported its second quarter earnings in the morning on July 23rd, the shares closed a whopping 11% lower on the same day. The results saw the firm's profit per share beat ******* yst estimates. However, a key factor in its narrative, i.e. postpaid subscribers, missed estimates. As part of the earnings, T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) outlined that it expected to add 250,000 postpaid accounts in the third quarter whcih was quite low over ******* yst estimates of 275,000.
Additionally, during the quarter, T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s management also announced that more than 60% of its new additions chose its premium plans. These plans can prove to be more profitable in the future but at the cost of higher customer churn. However, during the call, management also warned that the new plans can increase its churn rate. While T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) outlined that its postpaid churn was 0.85% in the second quarter, the 250,000 subscriber addition guide was based on the costs of the shift to the premium plans.

Demi Moore wore a strapless mint green micro minidress from Balenciaga for her daughter's wedding after-party. Designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the dress featured a scale-like woven texture and a straight-across, rimmed neckline on the boned bustier bodice. It cinched at the waist before flowing down into a tulip-shaped bubble miniskirt.
Deep box pleating around the waist gave the skirt its rounded, architectural volume, creating an hourglass silhouette. The strapless neckline highlighted her bare shoulders while the short skirt left her long legs on full display. The dress also had concealed pockets on both sides.
