The Atlanta Braves should be looking for a left-handed starter at the MLB trade deadline. It just should not be Tarik Skubal. Skubal is the dreamy name. He is young(er), dominant, and good enough to change the entire National League race if he actually becomes available. That is also the problem. Every contender would (should) want him, and the price could get completely ridiculous. The Braves need a lefty starter. Acknowledged. What they don’t need to do is empty the farm system for the most expensive pitcher on the board.

Maybe the most sense. Ray would not create the same national buzz as Skubal, but Atlanta should not be chasing buzz. It should be chasing outs. The Braves are good enough to think about October, but not deep enough to ignore rotation risk. One injury, one slump, or one bad matchup can change a postseason series fast. Adding a left-handed starter would give them a different look and make the rotation less predictable.
