Lord Jeffrey Archer has died at the age of 86.
The British author and former politician's death was confirmed by his publisher, HarperCollins, who noted that the Kane & Abel writer had died "suddenly and peacefully at home" on Monday.
"Jeffrey's career is the stuff of publishing legend," a statement to BBC News read. "He was the master storyteller and an editor's dream: phenomenally hard-working, utterly committed to completing draft after draft to get every word as perfect as possible, and a true champion of the 'team' nature of great publishing."
A cause of death was not disclosed.
Archer, a former Conservative Party deputy chairman, sold more than 300 million books during a writing career that spanned five decades.
His work was adapted for the screen on many occasions, including the 1985 CBS miniseries based on Kane & Abel, starring Peter Strauss and Sam Neill.

British author Jeffrey Archer, who penned a series of best-selling novels, served as a Conservative MP and was convicted of perjury, died suddenly at 86, his publisher HarperCollins said.
Archer died "suddenly and peacefully at his home between writing sessions" on Monday, HarperCollins said.
His editor, Kate Elton, called him a "master storyteller and an editor's dream".
The writer had been due to appear at Cheltenham Literary Festival this week to discuss "Adam and Eve", what he described as his final novel after 50 years of storytelling.
It was due to be published Tuesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Douglas, the award-winning actor and producer, recently turned 82. He is a cancer survivor, a recovered addict, a married man, the father and son of actors. He is also an author, who begins his memoir with a message of thanks to his family — past and present and future — for the "sense of immortality."
Immortality.
"Many times my father was asked, 'Kirk, are you jealous of your son?'" he said during a recent interview at a Manhattan hotel, referring to his late father, fellow actor and sometime combatant Kirk Douglas. "And he said, 'Jealous?' This is a sense of immortality, a continuity of generations.'"
Family is how Douglas anchors his legacy and his place in a world he fears is breaking down. But there are other ways to live on past your own time: starring in cultural touchstones like "Fatal Attraction" or "Basic Instinct," or writing a 500-page book that is called "One ****** uva Ride," a famous man's journey from rebellion and coming-of-age, to midlife success and transgression to the inevitable reckoning with mortality and past mistakes.
Publishing on Tuesday, his memoir is framed around the making of some of his most notable movies, including "Basic Instinct," "Fatal Attraction," "Falling Down," "Romancing the Stone" and two films that brought him Oscars: as a producer of best picture winner "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and as star of "Wall Street," when his turn as corporate raider Gordon Gekko brought him the prize for best actor and helped make "Greed is good" a catch phrase for the late 1980s.

Democratic House members are writing bills to rein in a president’s emergency powers. Lawyers are strategizing about how to insulate the Justice Department from presidential influence. A House measure would block a president from unilaterally remodeling the White House. Ethicists are writing rules to prevent a future first family from self-dealing.
Throughout Washington and beyond, President Donald Trump’s opponents are scrambling to ensure that after he leaves office, the changes he has imposed on the presidency, and the country, will fade with him.
Whether they succeed could determine whether Trump’s aggressive exercise of executive powers will be limited to a finite stretch of U.S. history or will instead become a model for every president to come.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (Maryland), the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said that Trump’s uses of presidential power can and must be reversed — but doing so will take decades.
“We have a massive reconstruction task ahead of us,” Raskin said in an interview. “Fortunately, reconstruction has a great history in our country, and when it’s allowed to work, it has been a lot more successful than either authoritarianism or revolution. … We will have to go department by department, subject by subject, and public purpose by public purpose to determine what we salvage and what we re-create.”

Ming-Na Wen
You could say cooking is in Ming-Na Wen's blood.
The Annie Award-winning actor known for Mulan, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Book of Boba Fett grew up completely immersed in her family's Pittsburgh-based restaurant, Chinatown Inn, which has been in constant operation for the better part of a century.
While she ultimately pursued a career in show business, Wen never forgot her deep culinary roots. Reminiscences of that upbringing, both warm and complicated, informed the writing of her autobiographical cookbook, Have You Eaten Yet?: Family Recipes from a Restaurant Daughter (now on sale from S&S/Simon Element), described as "the ultimate love letter to food and family."
"It started off as a social media thing, where I'd be posting my food," she shared with me over Zoom. "I want to say this was eight years ago, and my fans wanted the recipes. I was like, 'Oh…I don't have recipes.' So, a few years later—because I was still posting my food and they were still requesting recipes—I talked to my manager about it. He's like, 'You should write a cookbook!' And I was like, 'Yeah, whatever…' But he got me a literary agent whom I love. She and I hashed it out, and it's taken about five years for it to come to fruition."

Shivon Zilis posted a statement on X on Friday saying Elon Musk ended their relationship without warning after the two had been together and built a family of four children.
"It's hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that's just how it is sometimes," Zilis wrote.
The post offered a rare public look at one of Musk's most private relationships. Zilis is an artificial intelligence executive who has worked with several of Musk's ventures, including Neuralink, according to Newsweek. The pair share fraternal twins Strider and Azure, born in 2021, a daughter named Arcadia, born in 2024, and a son named Seldon, whose birth was announced in early 2025, according to People.
In her statement, Zilis described her household as a refuge for Musk from what she called his "otherwise militant existence," writing that it was "always full of happiness and love, not war." She said her aim had been to offer him stability.
"I feel happy that I got to show Elon how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness," she wrote.

Megyn Kelly criticized Mariska Hargitay over her response to a ****** ual ****** ault case involving Cornell University students. During her podcast, Kelly questioned Hargitay's comments and also criticized the outfit worn by the actress's 15-year-old daughter at the 2026 Emmy Awards.
The criticism came after Hargitay spoke out about a case involving a former Cornell student who alleged that seven fraternity members drugged and ****** ually ****** aulted her in October 2024, according to OK! Magazine.
The case drew renewed attention in September after the woman filed a civil lawsuit. The Tompkins County District Attorney later reopened the criminal investigation and said the case would be presented to a grand jury.
Hargitay, who stars in Law & Order: SVU and founded the Joyful Heart Foundation, criticized Cornell's handling of the case. She also shared posts calling for consequences for the accused men, writing, "Yes, I think we should ruin the futures of adult men who drug and gang r— a woman."
Kelly began her podcast segment by discussing Hargitay's career and appearance at the Emmys. Hargitay hosted the ceremony and attended with her family, including her 15-year-old daughter, Amaya.

Billy Crystal stopped by Wednesday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to explain the origins of his new, one-man Broadway show and reveal why he is "so grateful" that he gets to actually bring it to audiences.
Crystal **** led the show "860," which was the street address of the house that he and his family lived in for 46 years before it was destroyed last year in California's devastating Palisades Fire. In the aftermath of his home's destruction, Crystal said he began to impulsively film and document every moment on his phone, starting with shots of first responders' planes flying overhead to drop water on the fires.
"I started filming the planes coming over and all that stuff, and I never stopped filming. Whenever there was another event happening, I would just capture everything," Crystal said, adding, "I started, in my mind, writing a narrative about everything that was happening. I didn't know what form it was going to take. It might have been a documentary. It might have just been for us, you know? It kept the pain away from me."
"Over time, I started writing stories that went along with the videos that I was taking," Crystal continued. "It started to be not only very dramatic, but also really funny because most of it takes place inside the house."

GOOG trades at a P/E of 14 versus META's 24, with Cloud revenue surging 82% while META's operating margins collapsed from 43% to 31%.
META's Reality Labs bleeds roughly $4B per quarter, 2026 capex is projected between $130B and $145B, and active litigation makes it a volatile aggressive-growth bet rather than a retirement hold.

Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) just unleashed rival consumer AI agents (Google's family-focused CC, a shared agent supporting up to six family members, and Meta's single-user Muse, aiming for higher autonomy across a user's digital life, including commerce), and the retirement-focused investor writing one check today needs a clear answer: which mega-cap deserves the slot?
Both stocks are pouring tens of billions into AI infrastructure. Both consumer AI agents (not just chatbots) are designed to take real actions on a user's behalf rather than only answering questions. However, CC is a family-oriented productivity and logistics agent tightly tied to the Google ecosystem. Muse is a more general-purpose personal agent aiming for higher autonomy across a user's digital life, including commerce. They compete in the emerging "AI agent that actually does things" category, but target different use cases and user models.

For nearly as long as I've been writing for The Motley Fool, the U.S. Pentagon has wanted a laser gun. As far back as 2004, I wrote about a Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) project to load a chemical oxygen iodine laser onto a Boeing (NYSE: BA) 747 and use it to shoot missiles out of the sky.
Nothing ever came of that particular project.

On Sept. 15, 2016, Shopify (NASDAQ:SHOP) stock closed at a split-adjusted $4.18 per share. As of this writing, shares trade around $130. That comes out to about 31 times the initial investment -- enough to make a $10,000 stake bought that day worth about $311,000 today.
And because Shopify does not pay a dividend, the share price did all the work.

Ukrainian forces fired more than 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, including hundreds that were launched toward Moscow, officials said Sunday as the Kremlin was wrapping up the third and last day of its parliamentary elections.
Moscow's mayor described the wave of drones as the "largest ever" attack on the Russian capital and said there had been damage to a Moscow oil refinery and a residential building.
Across the wider Moscow region, the attack killed two people and wounded 20, local Gov. Andrei Vorobyov said. The dead were a 74-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, he said.
Writing on social media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv had used a range of missiles and drones in the attack — including Ukraine's domestically made Flamingo and Pelican missiles — to hit oil and logistics facilities.
"These are billions of dollars that sustain the war machine," Zelenskyy said, referring to the financial pressure that Kyiv hopes to put on Russia's economy.

JEPI, DIVO, and GPIX each pay near 8% monthly yields while growing share price by writing calls on only a portion of holdings.
GPIX has beaten SPY with an 80% return since its 2023 launch by capping its options overlay at just 25 to 75% of the portfolio.
DIVO's tactical options sleeve delivers a lower 6% yield but drives 72% five-year price appreciation, nearly matching SPY's gains.

Covered call ETFs have a reputation problem. For years, the category was defined by funds like QYLD and XYLD that wrote at-the-money calls on entire index portfolios, harvested rich premiums, and quietly bled principal every time markets rallied. Investors got their monthly check and watched their share price drift lower. That is the trap worth avoiding.

The ******* e Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) IPO was one of the most highly anticipated public offerings in years. Within a few days of going public, ******* eX had a valuation of $2.7 trillion after raising nearly $86 billion in funding.
Then things started going sideways. The stock began falling amid fears that ******* eX is spending too much on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and shares still trade below their opening price of $150 as of this writing. At one point, the share price fell enough to wipe out more than $1 trillion from ******* eX's valuation over a one-month span.

Another AI company, Anthropic, could go public as soon as next month. Like ******* eX, it's a highly anticipated IPO. But investors would be wise to take the recent ******* eX sell-off as a warning that buying IPO stocks when they first go public is rarely a good move. History shows it's far better to wait before buying -- here's why.
While there was an initial surge in interest for ******* eX, investors quickly turned their attention to the company's massive AI spending spree. The company's capital expenditures (capex) jumped 308% in the first six months of this year, compared to 2025, reaching $28.5 billion. That's a hefty sum, especially when you consider that ******* eX sales were just $12.5 billion over that same period.

Property and casualty insurer Progressive (NYSE: PGR) is probably best known for selling auto insurance. That's a highly competitive segment of the industry, but the company has proven its chops, reporting a strong combined ratio of 87.3% in the second quarter of 2026. Is the roughly 10% pullback from the 52-week high, and about 25% drawdown from 2025's peak, as of this writing, enough to make the stock a buy? Probably not if you are a value investor.
The combined ratio is a measure of profitability in the insurance sector, with numbers below 100% indicating that a company is earning more from premiums than it costs to support those premiums and cover claims. Progressive has a strong history of running its business well on this front. Basically, it is a good business. But paying too much for a good business can turn it into a bad investment, as Benjamin Graham was fond of saying (Graham notably helped train Warren Buffett).
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
So the real question here is whether the drawdowns noted above were sufficient to make Progressive's valuation attractive. The answer there isn't clean cut. For example, the price-to-sales ratio of 1.4x is in the middle of the historical range of roughly 0.5x to 2.2x. If anything, the P/S ratio is kind of toward the high side. The same general story holds with the price-to-book ratio. So these two metrics hint at a stock that isn't expensive, but it also isn't trading at bargain-basement prices.
The price-to-earnings ratio is a bit more positive, with the 11.1x P/E toward the lower end of its historical range. And the average insurance company has a P/E ratio of around 11.8x, so this makes Progressive look reasonably priced. Only Progressive's P/B ratio is 3.7x compared to the industry average of 1.7x, so the broader industry comparison still isn't a clear-cut win.

Interested in Capital One Financial Corporation? Here are five stocks we like better.
Consumer credit remains resilient: Capital One reported strong spending, stable delinquencies and better-than-seasonal charge-offs, including among lower-income customers in its portfolio. Auto lending is also growing while the company maintains underwriting and margin standards.
Discover integration is progressing toward 2027 completion: New Discover card originations have moved to Capital One's platform, with the existing portfolio conversion expected to finish in January 2027 and broader integration substantially complete by mid-2027. Capital One has achieved about one-third of its targeted $1.5 billion in operating-expense synergies.
Capital One is expanding beyond lending: The company sees Brex as a strategic commercial-payments platform and plans to leverage its technology, marketing reach and small-business customer base. With a 13.7% common equity tier 1 ratio, management says it can fund investments while maintaining conservative capital and shareholder returns.

One of the biggest stories in markets this year has been how stubborn inflation remains. Geopolitical tension in the Middle East spurred the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March, which rose 3.4% year over year in August. However, even before this conflict, the CPI was still well above the Federal Reserve's 2% target.
The market is starting to believe that inflation will stick around for a lot longer than initially expected. This could explain why Treasury yields, particularly for 10-, 20-, and 30-year terms, have risen significantly in the past 12 months. The **** umption is that interest rates will stay elevated for an extended time, at least compared to most of the 2010s.

Income investors looking to allocate capital are now faced with a crucial decision, one that might have been easier to make in the past. Is it smart to put money in dividend stalwarts, such as Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) and Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG)? Or should U.S. government bonds be on your shopping list?
As of this writing on the morning of Sept. 16, the 10-year Treasury yields just under 5%. At the same time, investors can earn more than 5.3% on 20-year and 30-year bonds. For the sake of this **** ysis, I believe it's best to focus on the 10-year Treasury, as this is a reasonable holding period that's also comparable to long-term stock investing.

Five covered-call ETFs yield 8% to 14% monthly by writing options against large-cap U.S. equity portfolios, putting them at double to triple the 10-year Treasury rate near 5%.
Nasdaq-100 funds post higher yields than S&P 500 funds because greater implied volatility generates fatter option premiums, but they cap upside during rallies.

Fenimore ***** et Management, an investment management company, released its Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. U.S. equity markets saw broad gains in Q2, driven by strong corporate earnings, economic resilience, and enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI). Major indices reached all-time highs, though the energy sector declined. Continued earnings growth, especially among AI-related investments, supported the rally. Technology, particularly semiconductors, led performance as demand for AI infrastructure surged. Despite macroeconomic uncertainties and interest rate influences, Fenimore remains committed to investing in high-quality businesses. The Fenimore Small Cap Strategy returned 9.51% in the quarter, lagging the Russell 2000 Index's 21.49% gain. The underperformance was largely driven by avoiding lower-quality tech stocks linked to data center expansions. Additionally, reviewing the Fund's top five holdings could help identify its best picks for 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Fenimore ***** et Management highlighted Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN). Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) is a specialty insurance services company that provides distribution, underwriting, product development, administration, and risk management services. On September 17, 2026, Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) closed at $40.03 per share. The one-month return of Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) was -8.32%, and its shares lost 25.53% over the past 52 weeks. Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) has a market capitalization of $10.15 billion.
Fenimore ***** et Management stated the following regarding Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"We initiated a position in Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN), which we had previously owned after its initial public offering. The insurance industry has seen softness in rates. While RYAN's model differs from traditional retail brokerage, the company released results citing a volatile environment which led to a decrease in their earnings outlook for the year. We're encouraged by the business's long-term prospects and, in our opinion, its legendary leader Pat Ryan. He is also purchasing shares of RYAN's stock during this weakness."
Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) is not on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. According to our database, 32 hedge fund portfolios held Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) at the end of the second quarter, compared to 35 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ:CBRS) has been cut in half. Shares of the artificial intelligence (AI) computing specialist peaked at $386.34 on their first day of trading in May, a day after the company priced its initial public offering (IPO) at $185 and raised $6.4 billion. As of this writing, the stock trades around $184 -- about 52% below the high, and just under that IPO price.
A decline like that usually follows a stumble: a guidance cut, a lost customer, a bad quarter. Cerebras hasn't had one. Shares dropped double digits anyway the day after its mid-August update, arguably the company's strongest yet and one in which management raised its outlook for the year.

Yet even at half price, the stock costs about 145 times the earnings **** ysts expect the company to generate next year.
What did the fall reprice -- the business, or just the price tag?

Weitz Investment Management, an investment management firm, released its second-quarter Q2 2026 investor letter for the "Multi Cap Equity Fund". The letter can be downloaded here. The Multi Cap Equity Fund's Institutional Class returned 7.90% in Q2, underperforming the Bloomberg U.S. 3000 Index's 15.71% gain. Markets rose in the quarter on hopes of de-escalating Middle East tensions and easing oil flow. Investor focus shifted back to artificial intelligence, despite component shortages like processing chips affecting profits and valuations. Valuation-sensitive investors are selective within the AI sector, in contrast to valuation-agnostic indexes that adopt a more relaxed strategy. Additionally, reviewing the Fund's top five holdings could help identify its best picks for 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Weitz Multi Cap Equity Fund highlighted Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) as a newly added postion. Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) is a leading subscription-based streaming entertainment platform. On September 15, 2026, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) closed at $77.90 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $324.37 billion. Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) posted a one‑month return of -2.89%, while its shares lost 36.59% over the past 52 weeks.
Weitz Multi Cap Equity Fund stated the following regarding Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"We initiated two new positions during the second quarter. Most will be familiar with global streaming giant, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX). The company made headlines as it tried to acquire Warner Bros. from Warner Bros. Discovery before ultimately walking away from a bidding war for the company. Some investors feared its bid signaled stagnation in its streaming business. At the time of this writing, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is also captivating audiences and draining attention and engagement from Netflix's service. Despite these near-term perception headwinds, we are optimistic that Netflix's introduction of an ad-supported tier is a savvy strategy to extend its growth runway: Netflix will not only participate in the large, multi-billion-dollar global advertising market, but a lower-price ad-tier broadens its potential customer base while simultaneously enhancing the pricing power of its premium, ad free tier."
Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) ranks 13 on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. According to our database, 121 hedge fund portfolios held Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) at the end of the second quarter, down from 144 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

Last month, Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor predicted that Bitcoin's token price would grow at a 30% compound annual rate over a 10-year period. At the time, the market-leading cryptocurrency was trading at roughly $64,500.
As of this writing, Bitcoin is already up roughly 20% since Saylor made his prediction. Could Saylor's prediction for average annualized returns over the next 30 years really hold up?

Bitcoin hit an all-time high of roughly $126,200 per token in October 2025. It then began an extended downtrend that took it to a cyclical low of below $58,600 this summer. Even though the cryptocurrency has recently seen some strong bullish momentum, it's still down roughly 39% from its peak. It's possible that current macroeconomic dynamics will help the token continue regaining ground.
With concerns about rising bond yields, oil prices, and inflation recently shaping action across the stock market and weighing heavily on the broader macroeconomic outlook, the stage could be set for Bitcoin to continue coming back into favor with investors in the near term. Crypto bulls have long touted the token's ability to function as a store of value or "digital gold," and an inflationary environment that coincides with record national debt continuing to reach new highs seemingly reflects the kind of dynamics that Bitcoin has been championed as a bulwark against.

A pair of national real estate investment managers closed their U.S. office credit fund with $1.1B in investor commitments.
Hines and Rialto Capital secured 126 investors for their Hines Rialto Credit Partners, a co-general partnership focused on U.S. office credit investments. The fund required a minimum investment of $100K, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
With the rapid growth of private credit, Hines said it believes investors are searching for real estate credit strategies grounded in specialized underwriting and deep market knowledge.
"Yield alone does not tell you the quality of the risk," Alfonso Munk, Hines' global co-head of investment management, said in a statement. "In real estate credit, understanding the underlying ******* et — what it is worth, how it performs and how it may hold up under pressure — is becoming increasingly important as the market works through a significant refinancing cycle."
