"I just cloned myself … as a newborn," Johnson, 48, wrote to his followers on X. He added that for now, "baby Bryan" currently lives in a Petri dish.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers right tackle Taylor Moton will miss the start of the regular season after being diagnosed last month with a blood clot in his lung.
The Panthers announced Tuesday that Moton and cornerback Jaycee Horn will be placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, the day before the start of training camp. Horn is sidelined after cutting his foot while running and requiring stitches. The Panthers anticipate Horn returning early in camp.
Moton was placed on blood thinners after his diagnosis and is being monitored by the team's medical staff. He's expected to return at some point during the regular season.

The risk of football on the brain has hit the news a couple times recently by way of Chris Johnson's ALS diagnosis and the NFL Neurodegenerative Mortality Study. I read through the full study and here are my thoughts:
ALS falls into the category of neurodegenerative diseases, which was the subject of a recently released study comparing NFL player deaths with non-NFL player deaths. Other diseases in the study’s neurodegenerative classification included dementia, Parkinson’s, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
The study had the following conclusions:
NFL players exhibited lower all-cause mortality (SMR = 0.70; 95% CI: 0.67–0.74) but higher neurodegenerative mortality (SMR = 3.94; 95% CI: 3.38–4.56).
Neurodegenerative mortality was nearly four times higher in NFL players compared to the general population and remained threefold higher after accounting for competing risks. Together, these findings strengthen the evidence for RHI (repetitive head impacts) exposure-related neurodegenerative mortality in NFL players that cannot be explained by differential survivorship.

"Unfortunately, I was not surprised to find CTE in the brain of Mr Kneeland, because we have found this progressive brain disease in nearly half of the athletes we've studied who have died before the age of 30," said the centre's director, Dr Ann McKee.
Stage 1 is the mildest of CTE's four stages, where headaches and loss of attention or concentration are common symptoms.

It’s another day with more reports that Michigan basketball will keep a few of more of its players on the roster despite the departure of Dusty May. He’s been committed to the program for nearly a year, and Michigan stuck with him even after he announced a cancer diagnosis. He was the first player in Michigan’s 2026 class to commit.
This afternoon, it was reported by Brice Marich that forward Oscar Goodman would be back for the season, too. Goodman was a redshirt freshman on Michigan’s national championship-winning squad. He wasn’t the largest contributor on the team, finishing with 86 minutes, 10 shots, and going 0-for-6 on 3-pointers. He finished 2-of-5 on free throws. But his decision to stay shows continuity on the roster and buy-in from the program when it comes to interim coach Mike Boynton.

Danny Glover has been living with Alzheimer's disease for multiple years, the 79-year-old actor revealed in a sit-down interview with "Today" on Wednesday.
"I'm sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing," he told Lester Holt.
Per the former "NBC Nightly News" anchor's report, Glover's diagnosis has already impacted his movements, speech and memories — but he is still up and about.
"I could live with it, in a sense," Glover added.
The interview also served as a career retrospective for the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award honorary Oscar winner, who picked 1984's "Places in the Heart" as his favorite of his films, in part due to its personal significance; Glover's mother Carrie tragically died in a car accident on the day he won the role.

DAKAR, June 30 (Reuters) - Congolese health authorities are tracing people potentially exposed to Ebola in two provinces not previously affected by the ‌latest outbreak, amid fears the virus could spread further, a health ‌ministry report and a senior health official said.
The outbreak, declared on May 15, has so far infected 1,307 people and killed 377 across the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu, according to government data released on Monday.
In Tshopo province, health workers are tracing people who may have been exposed to the body of ‌a pregnant woman who ⁠died of Ebola in Ituri's Niania health zone, according to a health ministry report dated June 29 and reviewed by ⁠Reuters.
The woman fell ill on June 18 and died on June 27, the report said. Her body was transported by motorcycle about 300 km west to the city of Kisangani in neighbouring Tshopo province, where a sample taken at a morgue ‌tested positive for Ebola.
The report said the body's journey through several health zones before the diagnosis was made created a high risk of transmission. Authorities have launched contact-tracing efforts across the province.
