Nearly one in three veterans who relies on the government for health care could benefit from taking psychedelic drugs like magic mushrooms or MDMA.
That's not the ******* sment of some hippie or fading 1960s rock star. It came from Andrew Gradison, a senior adviser at President Donald Trump's Veterans Health Administration. Gradison told a conference for psychedelics enthusiasts this month that he is eager to ramp up the VA's capacity to give the drugs to as many as 2.1 million veterans with mental illnesses like post-traumatic stress disorder or depression. Gradison said 6.4 million veterans regularly rely on the VA for care.
No government regulator has deemed psychedelics safe or effective for mental illness. Under former President Joe Biden, the Food and Drug Administration in 2024 resoundingly rejected a proposal to authorize MDMA — also known as ecstasy — combined with talk therapy, to treat people with PTSD.
But psychedelics are getting a second chance in the Trump administration. Trump in April issued an executive order to accelerate research, clinical trials and patient access to the drugs. Republicans in Congress are among psychedelics' biggest backers. And the constituency they are seeking to please, veterans, are disproportionately Republicans.
Veterans, frustrated with high suicide rates among their fellow ex-service members, are lobbying aggressively to see Trump follow through.

Bruce Willis' beloved blended family is cautiously optimistic that some of the new treatments for dementia may help his situation, a source tells Examiner.
"They're all looking into everything and they are open-minded even about risky drugs and surgeries that are still in the clinical trials phase," reveals the source. "Anything Bruce might be remotely eligible for, they're inquiring about."
Wife Emma Heming Willis has become a fierce advocate for frontotemporal dementia awareness after Bruce, 71, received his devastating diagnosis in 2023, even launching the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver support in March.
The Die Hard star shares daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, with the former model, 50, and daughters Rumer, 38, Scout, 35, and Tallulah, 32, with ex-wife Demi Moore.
"They're all still Bruce's biggest advocates and cheerleaders," says the source. "And they point to the idea that the Bruce they have always known is still in there somewhere, because they can see it in his eyes."

Harvey Weinstein allegedly tried to spend $1.75 million from behind bars to influence the jury pool in his New York ****** crimes case, according to prosecutors, who say they have recordings of the disgraced Hollywood producer discussing the offer with a podcaster.
The stunning allegation emerged via The New York Post during Weinstein's sentencing for ****** ually ****** aulting former Project Runway production ****** istant Miriam "Mimi" Haley. Manhattan ****** istant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg told the court that Weinstein offered the money during a jailhouse phone call in an effort to release videos that could reach potential jurors—and even people already seated on the case.
According to Blumberg, the material was intended to help Weinstein's defense by "contaminating the jury pool and reaching the seated jurors before and after the trials." She accused Weinstein of engaging in a "scheme to disrupt the trial and instill fear in his victims."

Xenon Pharmaceuticals (XENE) shares crashed on Friday after the biopharmaceutical firm said it has paused new patient enrollment in its clinical trials evaluating azetukalner. As investors responded to the setback involving XENE's lead drug candidate for major depressive disorder, its relative strength index (RSI) slipped into the early teens, indicating extremely oversold conditions.
Following today's decline, Xenon Pharmaceuticals stock is trading nearly 40% below its year-to-date high.

On September 8, 2026, CNBC reported that Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS) shares fell about 10% after the company said its experimental drug del-desiran failed to meet its primary goal in a late-stage trial for myotonic dystrophy type 1.
It marked the company's third clinical setback in a week following the earlier failure of cardiovascular drug pelacarsen and a separate pause of eight trials of cell therapy rap-cel after three patient deaths. The decline erased roughly 24 billion Swiss francs, or about $29.6 billion, in market value and put Novartis on pace for one of its worst trading days in company history.
Remibrutinib provides a major remaining pipeline catalyst since Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS) reported successful late-stage results for remibrutinib in multiple sclerosis. It gives investors a credible growth driver after the failures of pelacarsen and del-desiran. The business expects more remibrutinib data later this year, making the drug an important test of whether its remaining pipeline can help long-term growth.
Novartis still expects 5% to 6% annual sales growth through 2030. Management reaffirmed its full-year financial guidance and maintained its target for 5% to 6% compound annual sales growth from 2025 through 2030. That guidance shows the company still expects its overall portfolio and remaining pipeline ******* ets to offset pressure from aging drugs.
The company retains a diversified commercial portfolio. The del-desiran failure removes a potentially important future revenue contributor, but Novartis still makes substantial revenue from its existing medicines. It also retains other pipeline ******* ets. That diversification gives the firm financial capacity to absorb individual clinical failures while it rebuilds investor confidence in its growth pipeline.

On September 8, 2026, CNBC reported that Novartis' failed pelacarsen trial has raised the stakes for rival experimental cholesterol drugs from Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY), both of which are racing to prove that lowering lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a). It can meaningfully reduce heart attacks and strokes.
Analysts said Amgen's olpasiran faces the clearest negative read-through given its similar trial design. Lilly's lepodisiran is being tested in a broader patient population that could limit how directly Novartis' failure applies. It is also described as less material to Lilly's overall valuation than pelacarsen was for Novartis.
Copyright: stocking / 123RF Stock Photo
Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) could still succeed where Novartis failed. Pelacarsen's failure does not establish that lowering Lp(a) cannot reduce cardiovascular events. **** ysts noted that Novartis' trial faced a high statistical hurdle and that Amgen's olpasiran and Lilly's lepodisiran have produced stronger Lp(a) reductions in earlier studies. Both companies also continue testing their drugs in specific patient populations with high Lp(a). It leaves room for their trials to produce different outcomes from Novartis' study.
Lilly's lepodisiran faces a less direct read-through than Amgen's olpasiran. **** ysts view Amgen's olpasiran as the closest comparison to pelacarsen because the programs use similar trial designs. Lilly's lepodisiran is being tested in an overall patient population. It could make Novartis' failure less directly applicable. **** ysts also view lepodisiran as less material to Lilly's overall valuation than pelacarsen was to Novartis. It reduces the potential financial impact of an unsuccessful outcome.

On September 7, 2026, Reuters reported that Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) halted two additional trials of its experimental cardiovascular drug ziltivekimab, further denting the Danish drugmaker's efforts to diversify beyond its blockbuster obesity and diabetes franchise.
The move follows a July disclosure that ziltivekimab failed to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in a late-stage trial. An independent data monitoring committee found a "low likelihood" that the two additional heart-failure studies would produce a different result from that earlier failure, prompting Novo to end them ahead of schedule.
Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) still has one opportunity to create value from its cardiovascular program. The company will continue testing ziltivekimab in patients recovering from a heart attack, with results expected in the first half of 2027. A successful outcome could give Novo another growth opportunity outside its obesity and diabetes franchise.
Novo's core obesity and diabetes business remains the much larger driver of its financial performance. The oral Wegovy pill has already generated more than 2 million prescriptions shortly after its January 2026 launch. It gives Novo an important growth opportunity as the company competes with Eli Lilly in the oral GLP-1 market.
The company can also preserve capital by ending trials that show limited prospects for success. An independent data monitoring committee found a low likelihood that the two heart-failure studies would produce different results from the earlier failed trial. Novo can redirect the resources it would have spent on those studies toward higher-potential programs.

U.S. stocks experienced significant gains in Q2, driven by increased spending on artificial intelligence. Fidelity Dividend Growth Fund stated the following regarding Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"On the other hand, security selection in industrials and materials meaningfully detracted for the quarter, along with a large overweight in the lagging energy sector. The five largest relative detractors were all strong-performing benchmark components in the technology sector that the fund didn't own during the quarter. For example, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) (+186%) was the largest relative detractor for the period. AMD competes in many markets with Nvidia, which we preferred and has outperformed AMD in many recent quarters. Also, AMD pays no dividend, whereas Nvidia does. The past three months, though, AMD had by far the better return, aided by better-than-expected earnings for Q1 that were driven by accelerating demand for AI infrastructure."

BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) reported that its investigational lung-cancer drug gotistobart produced a clinically meaningful overall-survival benefit in the Phase 3 PRESERVE-003 trial in patients with metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer whose disease had progressed after prior immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Reuters said gotistobart nearly doubled survival compared with standard-of-care chemotherapy, strengthening the case for the drug as a potential chemotherapy-free treatment in a population with significant unmet need.
The result builds on earlier Stage 1 data, where gotistobart reduced the risk of death by 54% versus docetaxel, with a hazard ratio of 0.46. Median overall survival was not yet reached for gotistobart versus 9.95 months for docetaxel, while the 12-month progression-free survival rate was 25.2% versus 0%. BioNTech is now awaiting the pivotal Stage 2 readout, making the latest result important not only for the drug's approval prospects but also for the credibility of BioNTech's broader transition from a COVID-vaccine company toward a multi-product oncology business.
The strongest bullish argument is that gotistobart now has repeated evidence of a meaningful survival advantage in a difficult-to-treat lung-cancer population. The earlier Stage 1 dataset showed 55.6% of patients alive in the gotistobart arm versus 23.8% with docetaxel, alongside a 54% reduction in the risk of death. The latest Phase 3 update reinforces that signal rather than introducing an entirely new hypothesis. If the pivotal Stage 2 data confirm the benefit, BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) could have a differentiated therapy capable of competing on survival rather than simply response rates, potentially supporting meaningful pricing power and a commercially attractive oncology franchise.
The result also strengthens BioNTech's broader oncology strategy because gotistobart is one piece of a much larger pipeline rather than a standalone bet. BioNTech says it has 14 ongoing pivotal trials and more than 10 novel combination programs, while its lung-cancer strategy spans more than 16 ongoing clinical trials and five Phase 3 programs. Gotistobart's success therefore provides validation for the company's immuno-oncology capabilities, while other ****** ets such as pumitamig and antibody-drug conjugates advance toward additional indications. BioNTech has identified 17+ late-stage or pivotal readouts through 2030+, creating the possibility that a successful gotistobart launch becomes the first major commercial proof point in its planned transition to a multi-product oncology company.

In Q2 2026, the portfolio delivered a strong net return of +30.1% compared to the Russell 2000 Index's +21.5% return and the HFRX Equity Hedge Index's +10.3% return. The long book drove performance, generating a 43.2% gross contribution, while average net exposure remained relatively modest at 47%. Prosper Stars & Stripes stated the following regarding Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"This year's market rally has pressured short returns and narrowed the windows to successfully monetize shorts, as we would expect. Certain themes and short ideas do continue to resonate, however. One theme that has had success is the ongoing pressure caused by the investment boom in AI crowding out spending in other areas. We have shorted Universal Display Corp (OLED), Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB), and Logitech International (LOGI) on this theme. We believe cost pressures on technology components such as DRAM to result in higher prices for consumer electronics. This would have a significant impact on back-to-school and holiday spending, the key periods for these companies' end markets. We expect the forecasts that these companies are providing at this time of the year to prove optimistic, as tech cost inflation is unusual. Further, we believe the so-called K-shaped economy, where consumers have felt the pressure of rising costs of living, will continue to squeeze discretionary purchases like these. Fidelity Investments, an investment management company, recently released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Fidelity Dividend Growth Fund". The letter can be downloaded here. The Fidelity Dividend Growth Fund is a diversified large-cap equity strategy focused on capital appreciation through investments in large- and mid-cap stocks with strong dividend growth prospects. The fund returned 17.05% in the quarter, outperforming the S&P 500 Index, which gained 15.20%. U.S. stocks experienced significant gains in Q2, driven by increased spending on artificial intelligence. Technology stocks gained 31.79%, mainly driven by semiconductor companies, while the index faced a slight decline in June as investors considered the sustainability of AI-related profits amidst rising interest rates. Despite recent turbulence from the Middle East conflict, the fund remains optimistic about key investment themes, particularly in artificial intelligence. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Fidelity Dividend Growth Fund highlighted Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD). Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) closed at $493.41 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $805.61 billion. Over the past month, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) returned 7.72%, but its shares are up 226.08% over the past year.

This provider of automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles has continued to benefit from accelerating industrial activity, driven by federal support for infrastructure and onshoring.
Gotistobart's success therefore provides validation for the company's immuno-oncology capabilities, while other ***** ets such as pumitamig and antibody-drug conjugates advance toward additional indications. BioNTech has identified 17+ late-stage or pivotal readouts through 2030+, creating the possibility that a successful gotistobart launch becomes the first major commercial proof point in its planned transition to a multi-product oncology company.

Nokia (NYSE:NOK) stock is rising in early Wednesday trading, up 6% to $10.39 after the company said its artificial intelligence-powered radio access network (AI-RAN) platform is moving from evaluation to live field trials at eight global operators. The list spans North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, and it reframes AI-RAN as a shared industry priority rather than a single-vendor pilot. That geographic reach is what today's move is paying up for.
The move is Nokia-specific. The iShares U.S. Technology ETF (NYSEARCA:IYW) is unchanged at $250.08, and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 0.4% to $760.33. Nokia stock is climbing while U.S. technology sits still and the broad benchmark is only marginally higher, which frames today as a name-specific catalyst.

As of 11:38 AM ET, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) is down 0.44% to 7,623, the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) has fallen 0.44% to 26,217 as cooling artificial intelligence sentiment weighs on growth stocks, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) is trading 0.36% lower to 52,422.
Gold is down 1.88% to $4,325.10, and the 10-Year Treasury yield has slipped 0.02% to 4.96%, after reaching 5% for the first time since 2023. Communication stocks and healthcare are leading sector gains, while basic materials and industrials are underperforming.
Meta Platforms is climbing today after Goldman Sachs maintained a Buy rating, stressing the potential upside from its Muse AI agent. Micron Technology tumbled over 5% following warnings about the risks of rapid AI development. Those same concerns drove gains in cybersecurity stocks -- CrowdStrike Holdings soared 15%.
Tech leaders have issued dire warnings about the risks of rapid artificial intelligence (AI) development in recent days, prompting an industrywide pullback. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman both highlighted the dangers that advanced systems could quickly move beyond human control and called for a slower pace of development.
Investors fear any slowdown could impact demand for AI infrastructure, pressuring some of this year's outperformers, such as Marvell Technology, CoreWeave, and Intel. Those worries are understandable, but it is important think about how any controls on AI development might impact long-term growth. Near-term sentiment may slip, but AI isn't going to disappear, and there is a chance that a slower build-out could actually strengthen the industry in the long term.

During the September 3 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer mentioned Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) for its unconventional approach to powering hyperscale data centers in partnership with Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX). He said:
How about Microsoft? Look, Mr. Softee is getting religion. They've realized that by giving us more disclosure on Azure, their cloud infrastructure business, we'll find more things to like. They're right. In the end, I come to praise Microsoft CFO Amy Hood, not bury her. They've been very clever getting power for the data centers, pumping it right out of the Permian. They got this deal with Chevron as a partner… 2.67 gigawatts. No one's talking about it. It's the cleanest behind the meter plan for power I have seen yet. People even, and this is not a stretch, I'm not kidding, people even like Copilot.
CFO Amy Hood provided Wall Street with a much clearer look at actual cloud demand by breaking down detailed Azure growth metrics and data center capacity constraints. At the same time, enterprise adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot is moving past initial trials, with major corporations deploying the AI ***** istant across workforce segments.
A major highlight of the company's infrastructure strategy is a twenty-year agreement with Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) for a proposed 2.67-gigawatt natural gas power plant in West Texas. Designed to supply dedicated off-grid electricity directly to a hyperscale data center in the Permian Basin, the project bypasses regional grid transmission queues to secure reliable power for continuous AI workloads. Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ:MSFT) president of Cloud Operations + Innovation, Noelle Walsh, commented:
Our agreement with Chevron helps ensure we'll have dedicated, large-scale power to support the evolution and reliability of advanced compute. Through this partnership, we're delighted to grow with and become a deeper part of the West Texas community.
