On August 20, Intuitive Machines (NASDAQ:LUNR) reported second-quarter revenue of $206 million, more than four times what it brought in a year earlier, and closed the quarter with a record $1.8 billion in backlog. The company reaffirmed its full-year guidance of $900 million to $1 billion in revenue and said it still expects positive adjusted EBITDA for 2026. Behind those headline numbers sits a business spending heavily to chase a market it says has grown far beyond the moon.
The quarter's standout number was bookings. Intuitive Machines logged $1.7 billion in bookings so far this year, including $1.2 billion in the second quarter alone, the highest quarterly total in company history. Management said that volume reflects a shift away from depending on any single customer or mission type. The $1.8 billion backlog now splits roughly 37% civil, 49% commercial and 14% national security, and Q2 bookings skewed even further toward commercial and national security work, at 50% and 30% respectively.
That diversification showed up across every part of the business. NASA selected Intuitive Machines for the CS-8 lunar delivery mission, its sixth award under the CLPS contract, extending its delivery cadence into 2030. On the national security side, the company finished delivering all 16 satellites for the SDA's Tranche 1 tracking layer, added an 18-satellite Tranche 3 award, and picked up another 18 satellites tied to the Golden Dome missile defense architecture. It now has more than 70 IM-300 series ****** ecraft under contract. Commercially, it landed three geostationary communication satellites worth over $600 million and deployed SiriusXM-11 during the quarter. Gross profit swung to $36 million from negative $12 million a year earlier, evidence that the growing satellite manufacturing business is starting to convert into real profit.
That expansion is not free. Operating loss widened to $47 million, driven by higher SG&A, amortization, and a $14.7 million cost adjustment tied to the IM-4 lunar lander program. SG&A itself hit $60 million for the quarter, including $11 million in stock-based compensation and $8 million in acquisition and integration costs from recent deals. Operating cash used came to $60 million, and total cash deployed for the quarter reached $84 million once inventory buildup, acquisition costs, and a $17 million milestone payment to ****** eX are included.
The company is also leaning on equity markets to fund the buildout. It raised $235 million in net proceeds this quarter through its at-the-market stock program, bringing total gross proceeds raised to date to $291 million at an average price of $26.81 a share. Capital expenditures of $24 million went largely toward its NSNS satellite constellation and ground network, and management said CapEx will stay elevated in coming quarters as it builds out five satellites at once.

We are still a bit away from the tipoff of the 2026-27 college basketball season. Still, whether we're in the midst of a season being played or the season ended yesterday, ESPN's Joe Lunardi will always have some bracketology for us college basketball fans.
Big Blue Nation may not be too fond of the placement of its Kentucky Wildcats, with hopes of being much higher. Lunardi placed the Wildcats as a 5-seed in the East region, facing off against the winner of the 12-seed play-in game between Xavier and Oklahoma State.
Lunardi knew what he was doing with this region with the list of teams, including Kentucky. If Kentucky were to win its first game, its presumed round-of-32 opponent would be a familiar one: The Arkansas Razorbacks.
Also within the East region are 1-seed Duke, 8-seed Indiana, 3-seed UConn, 2-seed Michigan State, 11-seed Cincinnati, and others.
Obviously, a 5-seed would be a bit disappointing given the expectations at Kentucky. A 5-seed would have Kentucky in an interesting spot heading into the postseason of Year 3 for Mark Pope. In a year where you go into it on a warm seat, Pope would need a run through that bracket to make BBN happy in the end.

WENDOVER, Utah (AP) — The first — and only — person to break the sound barrier in a car hits the track in Utah this week with new wheels and his eye on another record.
Twenty years ago, British driver Andy Green set the land speed record for a diesel-powered car, reaching 350.092 mph (563.4 kph) at Utah's famous Bonneville Salt Flats. Green will return to the lunarlike landscape Tuesday and try to beat that mark, this time with a hydrogen-powered car.
The retired Royal Air Force fighter pilot aims not only to win another accolade but to showcase the power of hydrogen as a clean-energy alternative. It's the "fuel of the future," Green told The ******* ociated Press in a July interview.
Green will be driving the 32-foot (9.75-meter) JCB Hydromax, the brainchild of British construction equipment manufacturer JCB. The car is bright yellow, long and slim, resembling a pencil. It's powered by two hydrogen internal combustion engines with a combined 1,600 horsepower, which were adapted from engines used in the company's construction machinery. They mix pressurized hydrogen gas with air and ignite it to create bursts of power.
In targeting the diesel-powered record, Green also hopes to easily clear the world land speed records for hydrogen internal combustion engines (185.5 mph/298.5 kph) and electric vehicles (341.3 mph/549.2 kph).

The Kentucky Wildcats had many unknowns going into the late spring and early summer months, but those were cleared up when they were able to add two huge weapons.
The Cats saw Malachi Moreno opt out of the draft and return to college at the last second. He's going to play a huge role for this team and could be among the best bigs in the entire country. He really has an untapped ceiling, especially as a playmaker.
The second addition was Iowa State forward Milan Momcilovic, who also avoided the draft after realizing he could be better off at the collegiate level. He was part of the All-Big 12 team last season and averaged 16.9 points per game, shooting 48.7% from the field. His shooting is going to be crucial for the Cats, but they'll have to figure out how to cover his flaws as well.
Nonetheless, Joe Lunardi is a huge fan of what's happening in Lexington and feels the Cats could now be a No. 5 seed in the 2027 NCAA Tournament.

A new study suggests the South Pole–Aitken (SPA) basin, an impact crater more than 1,200 miles (2,000 kilometers) wide on the moon's far side, was likely created by a differentiated asteroid. The findings might answer some of science's biggest questions about the SPA's creation — and they could have major implications for future lunar exploration.
The SPA basin is one of the moon's most scientifically valuable impact structures because it may expose material excavated from deep within the moon's mantle. Scientists have long debated exactly how the basin formed, including the size, speed and direction of the impactor.
Using high-resolution 3D simulations, a team of researchers led by Shigeru Wakita of Purdue University found that SPA's distinctive tapered-ellipse shape is best explained by a 160-mile-wide (260-kilometer-wide) differentiated impactor — a large asteroid that had already separated into a dense iron core and a rocky outer layer, much like a tiny planet.
