Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen's marriage fell apart because the former quarterback "was gone" and away from their children, speculates Lars Anderson, the author of Brady's new biography
"There was a lot that went into it," Anderson tells PEOPLE of the couple's divorce after 13 years
Anderson says the former couple didn't have much "in common"
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen's marriage fell apart because he "was gone," says Lars Anderson, the author of Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness.
"There was a lot that went into it," says Anderson, who previously co-authored The Quarterback Whisperer: How to Build an Elite NFL Quarterback with former Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians before publishing A Season in the Sun: The Inside Story of Bruce Arians, Tom Brady, and the Making of a Champion in 2021.

SCHD yields 3.82% with principal at risk daily, while VIG targets dividend growers built to outpace inflation over a long horizon.
Qualified dividends face tax rates between 0% and 20%, compared to up to 37% for savings interest, a gap that can exceed the difference in yields.
High-yield savings protect dollars with FDIC coverage up to $250,000, but rates float and can drop the moment the Fed cuts.
Just released. Our ****** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
High-yield savings rates were holding steady on Oct. 8, 2026, according to Forbes. They are holding at a higher level than a month ago because the Federal Reserve raised its target range in September. Online banks use the federal funds rate's upper bound to price their accounts, and it moved from 3.75% to 4.00% on Sept. 16, 2026 and was unchanged as of Oct. 7. On that date the 4-week Treasury bill, the closest market benchmark for overnight cash, yielded 3.95%. Typical banks pay much less. The FDIC national average 12-month CD rate was 1.73% as of Sept. 1, 2026, and top online banks routinely pay a multiple of that average. Rates differ from bank to bank, so the posted APY at your own bank is the number that applies to you.

President Donald Trump's portfolio managers bought as much as $30 million in Meta stock and ******* eX debt in August as purchases made in his name continue to be highly active.
A newly released financial disclosure shows more than 500 securities transactions in August, including up to $25 million in Meta stock and $5 million in ******* eX debt. His portfolio also invested in AT&T, Netflix and Chevron. In contrast, he sold shares of Advanced Micro Devices, T-Mobile, Dell Technologies and Nvidia.
Democrats have criticized moves made by the president's portfolio managers in the past. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Robert Garcia sent a lengthy letter to Trump in August, saying they want to know who are the money managers in charge of his investments.
"One ******* ysis estimates that you reported more than 14,000 stock trades, worth up to $1.06 billion during your first year in office. The total is likely higher as these reports don't even include transactions worth less than one thousand dollars," reads a passage of the letter.
"The sheer volume of this trading activity and the timing of a number of transactions, raise questions about whether you are using your knowledge of government activities, your official authority, or the vast megaphone provided by the Presidency to make investments or move markets to your personal benefit—and about whether you have been making decisions that boost your portfolio at the expense of taxpayers, the economy, and national security," it adds.

It's not easy being a billionaire in the event that a stock market bubble bursts.
Just ask billionaire Bridgewater ****** ociates founder Ray Dalio, who sounds like he's worrying about potentially massive wealth destruction if the artificial intelligence trade goes south.
"Everybody says 'I'm worth a billion dollars' but, OK, try to spend that," Dalio said at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore on Wednesday. Bloomberg first reported his comments.
Dalio suggested that measures that force the ultrawealthy to liquidate their unrealized gains, such as a wealth tax, could hasten or contribute to a bubble popping.
"In order to spend that, you have to sell wealth in order to get money — and so the bubble usually ****** at that," he added.

Martha Stewart may not have a private jet, but she's done very well for herself over the years.
The lifestyle guru, 85, appeared on the Tuesday, October 6 episode of David Rogier's Other People's Business podcast, where the MasterClass founder and CEO asked whether fellow businesswoman Kim Kardashian has ever come to her for advice.
"We've talked, but she doesn't need my advice," Stewart responded. "That group is really, really good, and I really admire it. You know she's flying around in a G5. I don't have a G5."
"Why don't you think that you have a private jet?" Rogier questioned, to which the TV personality explained, "Because I fell in a hole and I lost about a billion dollars in my legal problems. The lawyers took me to the cleaners, and they were horrible."

Young Americans are reconsidering the value of a college degree given the high cost of college and the prospect of taking on student loan debt, which is prompting some colleges and universities to cut tuition costs to attract students and boost enrollment.
A report by Bloomberg noted that several colleges and universities have announced plans to lower their tuition either this year or in the next academic year when students arrive on campus in fall 2027. For example, Emory & Henry University historically offered significant merit scholarships amounting to up to $23,000 to help students negate some of the $40,000 price tag they faced, the report noted.
However, the school moved to reduce tuition by half to $19,900 for undergraduate students this academic year to lower the sticker price students are evaluating, while still offering merit scholarships up to $5,000 and covering tuition costs for certain in-state students from Virginia who meet income criteria.
"Our tuition reduction plan was just one piece of a larger strategic enrollment strategy," said Dr. Louise "Lou" Fincher, president of Emory & Henry University, told FOX Business. "Ultimately, we wanted our published tuition to better reflect the real cost of an Emory & Henry education."

National Republicans have spent months trying to rescue Ken Paxton. He's complicating that effort.
Tensions are brewing with some Republicans after POLITICO published Paxton's closed-door comments that "D.C." Republicans were largely controlling his race.
"He is welcome to raise his own money and say whatever he wants," said one Republican involved in the Paxton rescue effort, who like others in this article was granted anonymity to speak candidly. "In fact, if he did that, he'd probably be winning right now and we wouldn't need to spend all this money."
"This just seems like Paxton preparing to blame others for what might be one of the most embarrassing defeats in modern political history," said Carlos Curbelo, a former Florida GOP representative.
Senate Republicans and top operatives didn't want to be in this position in the first place. Many had warned that the Trump effort to unseat Sen. John Cornyn and back Paxton in the primary would cost Republicans hundreds of millions to drag Paxton across the finish line in the general election. Cornyn and Senate GOP groups spent millions of dollars on ads during the primary attacking Paxton over his series of scandals and warning he was a flawed candidate.

America's older households sit on nearly $140 trillion in wealth, and much of it showed up recently.
Households age 55 and over held around three-quarters of the nation's total net worth in the second quarter of 2026, according to an Oct. 1 report from Bank of America Institute, based on ******* ysis of Federal Reserve data. "With equity markets rising strongly," wrote senior economist David Michael Tinsley, those households have seen "a more than 20% increase in their net worth over the past two years."
That rally has run on AI. The Magnificent Seven accounted for more than half of the S&P 500's gains last year, Fortune reported in April, and Goldman Sachs strategists found technology stocks drove 85% of the index's return through mid-May this year. "AI-driven return has been the single most important structural driver of equity performance," Capgemini's Luca Russignan told Yahoo Finance in June. Boomers own 54% of all U.S. stocks.
That's a lopsided split. Americans 55 and over make up about 31% of the population, according to Census Bureau estimates, but control roughly 75% of its net worth.
The pile gives many older Americans what the institute calls "considerable capacity to spend on travel and other leisure categories." Add their growing share of the population and their extra free time, and they become an increasingly influential market for businesses chasing consumer dollars. The BofA report focused mainly on the economic implications of a growing mass of older consumers, but the generational wealth composition was striking.

Deciding how much to withdraw from your retirement accounts means finding a balance between enjoying life and making your money last. Taking too little leaves you with unused savings, while taking too much risks running out of money later. Taxes also affect how much you can actually spend. To help you create a retirement budget, let's break down the example of a 67-year-old with $870,000 in a 401(k), $120,000 in an IRA and $26,400 annually from Social Security. Here's what a withdrawal plan could look based on two rates.
A financial advisor can help you create a withdrawal strategy that balances your lifestyle needs, tax impacts and long-term retirement goals.
A 401(k) and a traditional IRA are both retirement accounts funded with pre-tax dollars. Contributions are deducted from your taxable income, allowing you to grow savings faster because the money enters the account before taxes. In retirement, however, all withdrawals are taxed as ordinary income. This includes both the money you contributed and the investment earnings.
This is different from a Roth IRA, which is funded with after-tax dollars. You do not receive an upfront tax deduction for contributions. The benefit comes later: withdrawals in retirement are tax-free, including both contributions and earnings.

Tanya Young Williams filed for divorce from former NBA player Jayson Williams in New York on Monday, Oct. 5, according to court records obtained by TMZ.
She is also accusing her estranged husband of owing "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in child support. Tanya made that claim in comments to the outlet, which did not publish an exact balance or a current response from Williams.
The filing comes 17 years after Tanya first sought a divorce in February 2009. That proceeding never produced a finalized divorce, TMZ reported.
Tanya, who appeared on Basketball Wives LA, married Williams in 2000. They have two daughters, Tryumph and Whizdom.
Tanya told TMZ that Williams provided no financial support for their daughters while he was incarcerated from 2010 to 2012. She said payments began after the couple reached a settlement in 2015 and stopped about two years later.

Where should you put your extra cash -- into a savings account, or invest it in the stock market? It depends on how much money you have and how long you can leave that money alone. It depends on when you need that money, if you want to keep your money safe, or make your money grow.
The stock market is not the same as a savings account. Savings accounts are mostly risk-free: Your money in the bank is typically protected by FDIC insurance. You're guaranteed to get paid a certain rate of interest on your savings.

Playing the leading role in a major Hollywood blockbuster that earned a billion dollars is the dream of many in the entertainment world. To do so alongside one of the biggest movie stars of all time, Will Smith, was certainly a dream come true for Mena Massoud. I sat down with him to unpack a hidden secret to career success that is not often discussed: the art of defiant surrender.
For many who lead companies or compete at a high level, it can feel like every moment must be maximized and every outcome manipulated. The performance literature points us somewhere else, to a flow state in which the brain is not preoccupied with holding tightly to every future outcome.
It may seem counterintuitive, but this liberates the brain to be in a place to actually access its best abilities.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A day after President Donald Trump said he would start paying for controversial taxpayer-funded ads with a campaign account, there's no sign he plans to refund the millions of federal dollars already spent on them.
Nearly $12 million worth of ads have already aired, according to AdImpact, as part of the $20 million the Department of Homeland Security tapped for the contract.
But Trump's plan to pay for the ads with MAGA Inc. doesn't mean there's any reimbursement coming, said a White House official who was not authorized to talk publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Trump said the ads were "really good" and "promotion for the country, done by many presidents before." Asked whether he'd repay the funds already spent, he said, "We'll decide."
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer slammed Trump for not committing to reimbursement and said he believes the president's plan for covering future costs represents illegal coordination with his super PAC.

American Tower Corporation (NYSE:AMT) traded at around $165 on October 6, within five dollars of its 52-week low of $160.06.
The company keeps 45.41% of revenue as operating profit on a portfolio of communications towers leased to wireless carriers. A business that profitable sitting at a 52-week low is usually a disagreement about the future rather than the present.
READ ALSO: What is eBay's (EBAY) Economic Moat, and is it Widening or Narrowing?
A tower is difficult to replicate for reasons that have nothing to do with engineering. Local authorities restrict where new structures can go, so an existing site near a highway or a dense suburb cannot simply be copied next door.
The economics follow from that scarcity. The first tenant on a tower covers the construction and the ground lease, and each additional tenant is close to pure margin. Gross margin of 73.77% is what that layering produces, and the 45.41% operating margin is what survives after the overheads.

The $200 million in payments dwarfs previous amounts disclosed in the case.
The former CIA officer arrested after authorities discovered roughly $40 million worth of gold bars in his Virginia home pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to a single count of wire fraud, admitting he defrauded the U.S. government out of nearly $200 million for his personal benefit.
David Rush was previously described by prosecutors as a "master manipulator" who used his clandestine position to amass millions worth of gold bars and luxury watches -. though the government revealed in Tuesday's hearing the extent of his alleged deception far exceeded what was previously known to the public.
The nearly $200 million in payments to Rush, which dwarfs previous amounts disclosed as part of his case, will likely only further draw public and congressional scrutiny to the intelligence community to provide more transparency regarding its methods in doling out taxpayer dollars to agents and the oversight that follows such exchanges.
The case has drawn widespread intrigue and raised major questions regarding the intelligence community's management in overseeing the secretive systems that grant officials like Rush the ability to amass high-value ****** ets tied to their work.

The US trade deficit jumped to more than $100 billion in August as importers wrestled with a new round of President Trump's tariffs and continued to bring in billions of dollars' worth of components for AI data centers.
The total gap: $105.6 billion, a 13.8% increase from July's revised $92.8 billion deficit, the highest level since early 2025, when importers stocked up ahead of Trump's "Liberation Day" and a later four-month surge in imports that pushed average monthly trade deficits north of $120 billion.
Imports rose in August by 4.3%, compared with a 1.4% increase in exports. The US brought in $420.8 billion in total imports in August against $315.2 billion in exports.
In an **** ysis, Capital Economics said the "sharp rise in imports suggests third quarter GDP growth will be well below our current forecast of 4.0%," suggesting that the final annualized figure could be closer to 2.5%."
"The relatively broad-based rise in goods imports mean net trade was still a drag overall," the group added.

Republicans are swamping House and Senate races with an unprecedented flood of late ad spending as the party tests whether hundreds of millions of dollars can buy it some reprieve from the eroding political environment that’s threatening longtime Republican states and districts.
Since the start of September, Republicans have made more than $700 million worth of new advertising bookings in congressional races alone, according to an NBC News ******* ysis of data from AdImpact, a political ad-tracking firm. That’s new money on top of what had already been committed to those races in ad reservations made over the summer.
By comparison, Democrats booked more than $430 million in new ad reservations across those races last month.
The disparity is greatest in the battle for the Senate majority, where almost 7 of every 10 newly booked advertising dollars are coming from Republicans. That’s led by a massive, late investment in the Senate race in Texas, where Democrat James Talarico is threatening a longtime Republican seat and the GOP has poured in almost $150 million in new ad dollars to back up its nominee, Ken Paxton.
The gap is smaller in the House, where a bit less than 6 in 10 of those new ad dollars are coming from the GOP.

Investors have rushed to get in on artificial intelligence (AI) stocks over the past few years as they've identified AI as the next big thing in technology. AI is exciting as it helps companies streamline processes, lower costs, make better decisions, and so much more. This is why some see it as a true revolution. Jensen Huang, chief of AI leader Nvidia, has even likened it to the Industrial Revolution, saying it will reshape the job market as that period once did.
This year, AI stocks have met with some headwinds, from concerns about the pace of AI infrastructure spending to general worries about the economy. And that has weighed on the performance of some. Still, the overall industry and the S&P 500 have been on the rise, and demand for AI products and services remains high. ****** ysts expect the AI market to reach into the trillions of dollars in a few years, suggesting there is still plenty of growth to come.

The most powerful force in investing is time. It's not necessarily about picking the best stocks or timing the market correctly; it's about time in the market. Over time, the stock market, as represented by the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), has always gone up in the long term.
The longer you are in the market, the greater your wealth will grow. This is due to compounding, where in later years your gains start generating gains of their own. While early growth may seem slow, it's the late-stage growth that will eventually turn even a small investment into millions of dollars.

Fashion Week is all about the front row, yet one moment away from the runway stole the spotlight. Moving through a busy, stone-arched hall, David Beckham kept his daughter Harper's hand firmly in his. The protective gesture became a highly talked-about image from Victoria Beckham's PFW show, where David and their kids turned out to cheer her on.
Victoria Beckham recently presented her Spring/Summer 2027 collection at Paris Fashion Week. The show was held in the historic Conciergerie, a former prison where Marie Antoinette was held, and models walked past candlelit rows of guests, including Eva Longoria.
The Beckhams made it a family evening. Three of David and Victoria Beckham's kids, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, joined him. Romeo's girlfriend Kim Turnbull and Cruz's girlfriend Jackie Apostel were also there. Then came the moment fans noticed. In a short clip posted on X, David walks a step ahead, holding Harper's hand as they make their way through the guests.
Harper wore a deep plum dress with a fitted bodice, spaghetti straps, and a softly gathered neckline that appears to have a delicate lace-style trim. The skirt fell in a fluid, floor-grazing line that moved as she walked beside her dad. She kept the accessories minimal, with a fine pendant necklace at the collarbone, and wore her long blonde hair loose past her shoulders.
The dark, rich color sat well alongside David's black suit and the muted tones of the stone hall. In the family portrait, Harper's dress also stood out against the neutral and grey tailoring worn by the others. It is an endearing snapshot of a father keeping his youngest close in a packed room. A family portrait from the night shows David and Victoria's kids and their partners posing with their parents beside stone pillars.

Sean "Diddy" Combs is headed back into solitary confinement, a day after a report described a prison life of massages, smuggled liquor, and contraband phones.
Staff at FCI Fort Dix are returning Combs to the facility's Special Housing Unit, according to TMZ, which was told the move came in direct response to this week's NBC News reporting on his alleged perks. Sources described the placement as typical procedure while prison officials run an investigation.
The report in question drew on four men who spent time in Combs' unit at the New Jersey prison. They said the mogul had other inmates making his bed, doing his laundry, and cleaning his toilet before he used it.
Sources also revealed to NBC News that inmates cooked for him on makeshift heating elements, turning out curry chicken, pizza and empanadas, and that others gave him Chinese-style massages. Thousands of dollars a month allegedly flowed into their commissary accounts.

Tom Brady has an outspoken defender in Liz Jones, and Gisele Bündchen probably won't enjoy reading her argument.
The Daily Mail columnist weighed in on the former couple's divorce with a blistering opinion piece. By the time she finished, Bündchen's expectations, the fashion industry, and even her new husband had caught up.

The book has already broughtrenewed attention to Brady and Bündchen's split, which became final in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage.
"The picture painted of the Brady marriage has always been, until this new biography, one of the man who refused to slow down to be present for his family, while Gisele gave it all up, Princess Grace-styley, to be a Trad Wife,"Jones wrote.

A new biography about Tom Brady includes details about the end of his marriage to Gisele Bündchen. "Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness" was written by sports journalist Lars Anderson and released on Sept. 29, 2026.
The book draws on more than 350 interviews with people who knew Brady on and off the field. It includes accounts about the couple's marriage and their 2022 divorce. Bündchen has previously said the reasons for their split were more complicated than reports that linked it primarily to Brady's football career.
Anderson's biography examines Brady's life beyond his record-setting football career. Publisher Celadon Books says the author conducted more than 350 original interviews with people who knew Brady on and off the field. The book explores his childhood, career, family life, and retirement.
It also examines what Anderson presents as the personal cost of Brady's intense commitment to football and his pursuit of success. The marriage receives considerable attention because it overlapped with some of Brady's biggest professional achievements. Brady and Bündchen married in 2009 and remained together for 13 years before finalizing their divorce in October 2022.
They share a son, Benjamin, and a daughter, Vivian. Both described the divorce as difficult while emphasizing that their children would remain a priority as they moved forward separately.
