Born on 21 February 1937, King Harald was the youngest child of King Olav V and Princess Martha. His two sisters, Princess Ragnhild and Princess Astrid, were excluded from being in line to the throne at the time due to agnatic primogeniture rules. Following the outbreak of World War II, Harald was evacuated from Norway alongside his mother and sisters, with the family settling in both Sweden and the United States. Following the war, Harald returned to his homeland and he became the first Norwegian royal to attend a state school. At the age of 17, Harald was dealt some personal heartbreak when his mother died at the age of 53.

As the Norwegian royal family begins to consider funeral arrangements for King Harald, his widow Queen Sonja will be marking a very poignant milestone this weekend.
The royals would have marked their 58th wedding anniversary on 29 August, one day after it was announced that Harald had died aged 89. A statement from the Norwegian Palace read: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce that His Majesty King Harald passed away today. King Harald passed away peacefully at Rikshospitalet on Friday, August 28, at 06:35."

Obama stepped out in a green-and-white striped Carolina Herrera halter dress during an appearance at the Martha's Vineyard Author Series, where she joined Michele Norris, MSNBC senior contributing editor and The Race Card Project founder, for a conversation about her book, "The Look."
The former first lady shared photos from the appearance on Instagram on Aug. 26, offering a closer look at the summery ensemble.
The sleeveless dress, designed by Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon as part of the fashion house's pre-fall 2026 collection, featured a plunging halter neckline, fitted ruched bodice and full midi-length skirt. Vertical stripes ran down much of the dress before shifting direction along the hem.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively announced that The Martha Stewart Podcast and Martha Cooks are joining Netflix this week. Martha Cooks begins streaming Tuesday, Aug. 25. Full video episodes of Stewart's podcast arrive Wednesday, Aug. 26.
"I'm delighted to bring my podcast to Netflix," Stewart said in a statement. She also called Netflix "the perfect partner" to help the show reach a wider audience.

Alan Dershowitz said he is still a pariah on his beloved Martha's Vineyard, and fellow island vacationer Larry David still won't speak to him.
For several years now, Dershowitz has lamented his fallen status on the island, starting around the time he acted as defense counsel in President Donald Trump's first impeachment trial. Dershowitz, a staunch Democrat for 67 years, registered as a Republican this year.
On Tuesday, The Atlantic published an interview with Dershowitz by Mark Leibovich, who spoke with the famous lawyer and professor emeritus at Harvard Law. The piece is ****** led, "Alan Dershowitz Won't Forget What Larry David Did To Him."

Retired Adm. Mike Mullen, the former chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Sunday the truth about the reported mental health concerns among service members on board the USS Abraham Lincoln is likely "somewhere in the middle."
During an interview on ABC News's "This Week," Mullen said he had "great concern" about conditions on the ship, which multiple outlets have reported.
"I know the commanding officer, in particular the commanding officer of the Lincoln, is working these issues hard," Mullen told host Martha Raddatz, referring to Capt. Daniel Keeler. "And I also believe the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle."
The USS Lincoln, with about 5,000 sailors and Marines on board, has been deployed since Nov. 21 — with the Navy extending the vessel's deployment in support of the U.S. war with Iran.
Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao announced earlier this week the Lincoln "will return home soon" to San Diego as part of a "planned rotation," with the USS George Washington set to take the former carrier's place in the U.S. Central Command theater.
