Geissler attended the Scottish Premiership match at Celtic Park as the top two teams from last season went head-to-head for the first time since that dramatic afternoon in May when Celtic ****** ed the ****** le from the Tynecastle club's grasp inside the final ten minutes of the 38 match campaign, which Hearts lead almost entirely from start to within ten minutes of the finishing line.
That result broke the Hearts support as we have all watched in recent days in that outstanding fly-on-the-wall documentary which included contributions from many Hearts supporters who were at Dens Park on 4 May 1986 when it was Albert Craig who broke their hearts.

Robert De Niro is ramping up his criticism of the Trump administration in the final weeks before the 2026 midterm elections.
The 83-year-old Oscar winner did not pull his punches while speaking at Indivisible's Hands Off Our Vote event in New York City on Sunday, Oct. 4. He called out "weak and spineless" Republicans in Congress who "won't protect our rights" as voters, accused President Donald Trump of trying to "our votes away" amid record-low approval ratings and encouraged voters to "take back the House, take back the Senate, take back the power, take back our country."
"The Trump administration knows that their policies are not only crazy and cruel, they're increasingly unpopular. They can see it. They're not stupid. Well, OK, they are very f---ing stupid," De Niro said from the podium. "They're stupider than I ever thought, but they recognize what they're doing is turning away people. They can't get support from the voters. So what do they do? They try to take our votes away. Are you kidding me?"
He added, "And when that coward, that f---ing piece of s---, Donald Trump, tries to take our voice and power away, what do we tell him? Keep your f---ing hands off our vote!"
In response to De Niro's remarks, the White House reissued a statement previously provided to USA TODAY criticizing the actor.

Recently, Danny Trejo hosted the TMZ Brunch Bus through Hollywood, hanging out with the tour's DJ and stopping at his own businesses, Trejo's Coffee & Donuts and Trejo's Tacos.
He was telling the passengers about taking a low-budget movie as a favor to a director who needed a name to get financing.
"Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else," he told the crowd.
Then, a woman leaned over and told him that his sister, Marlene, was her mother.
"Are you kidding?" Trejo said.

Duke basketball coach Jon Scheyer addressed the reports linking him to the NBA during the offseason.
The Blue Devils head coach was reportedly linked to Dallas Mavericks through the offseason as a potential replacement for Jason Kidd. The Mavericks ultimately hired former Michigan coach Dusty May.
Scheyer discussed the NBA interest on the Glue Guys Podcast on Monday, Sept. 14.
"If anybody that knows me, I wouldn't be able to live with myself not seeing this thing through, that's just the bottom line," Scheyer said. "I'm at a one-of-one place where (it's) not often you get your dream job when you're 33, and that's what happened to me."
Scheyer took over for Mike Krzyzewski in 2022 after spending nine seasons on his predecessor's staff. A former Duke national champion and two-time team captain, Scheyer is entering his fifth season as the program's head coach. He owns a 124-25 career record, the most wins by any Division I head coach in their first four seasons, and has led the Blue Devils to three ACC Tournament championships, three NCAA Elite Eight appearances and one Final Four.

During the September 3 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer mentioned Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) for its unconventional approach to powering hyperscale data centers in partnership with Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX). He said:
How about Microsoft? Look, Mr. Softee is getting religion. They've realized that by giving us more disclosure on Azure, their cloud infrastructure business, we'll find more things to like. They're right. In the end, I come to praise Microsoft CFO Amy Hood, not bury her. They've been very clever getting power for the data centers, pumping it right out of the Permian. They got this deal with Chevron as a partner… 2.67 gigawatts. No one's talking about it. It's the cleanest behind the meter plan for power I have seen yet. People even, and this is not a stretch, I'm not kidding, people even like Copilot.
CFO Amy Hood provided Wall Street with a much clearer look at actual cloud demand by breaking down detailed Azure growth metrics and data center capacity constraints. At the same time, enterprise adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot is moving past initial trials, with major corporations deploying the AI ***** istant across workforce segments.
A major highlight of the company's infrastructure strategy is a twenty-year agreement with Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) for a proposed 2.67-gigawatt natural gas power plant in West Texas. Designed to supply dedicated off-grid electricity directly to a hyperscale data center in the Permian Basin, the project bypasses regional grid transmission queues to secure reliable power for continuous AI workloads. Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ:MSFT) president of Cloud Operations + Innovation, Noelle Walsh, commented:
Our agreement with Chevron helps ensure we'll have dedicated, large-scale power to support the evolution and reliability of advanced compute. Through this partnership, we're delighted to grow with and become a deeper part of the West Texas community.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko does not expect the SEC's escalating dispute with LSU to end with the Tigers being removed from the conference. During Wednesday's Aggie Football Hour, Elko compared the public standoff to a child testing a parent's limits before quickly backing down.
The SEC is no longer expected to vote Thursday on LSU's membership after the school finalized its 105-player football roster without former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. Both players signed NFL contracts and participated in training camps before attempting to return to college football.
The controversy escalated after a Louisiana judge issued a preliminary injunction that opened the door for Wright, Harris and other athletes to regain their college eligibility. The SEC opposed LSU's plans, filed a federal lawsuit and scheduled a meeting of conference presidents and chancellors to consider the school's membership.
"This is a little bit like the son figuring out where the limits are until dad comes home and raises his voice, and then the son goes, 'I was just kidding, I didn't mean any of that,'" Elko said.
College athletics has resembled a never-ending soap opera in recent years, and the situation has only become more chaotic over the past few months. It is fair to say the sport has officially "jumped the shark."

I want to do a Roth conversion from my traditional IRA in the amount of $250,000. It's my understanding that I have to pay the income tax on the $250,000. Can that tax be paid from the funds in the IRA or do I have to pay the tax outside of the IRA?
– Kevin
This one is straightforward. The IRS doesn't care where the money comes from. As long as you cut them a check they'll be happy!
All kidding aside – yes, the $250,000 is included in your gross income. You can pay the tax bill using either the converted funds or money from other sources, but the difference is potentially substantial. You may want to consider using non-IRA funds to pay the tax bill if it's an option for you.
A financial advisor can help you make important retirement planning decisions, like when to do a Roth conversion and in what amount. Connect with a financial advisor.

There aren't many grand conclusions to be drawn from what was for the most part a lackluster Week 1 college football schedule. Of course, that never stops professional and amateur pundits alike from attempting to do just that. We're back once again to bring a bit of perspective to the sport's weekly debates.
For the uninitiated, here's how this works. The following statements are hyperbolic to some degree. We'll discuss whether there's an element of truth to them or if they're serious overreactions.
PATH TO PLAYOFF: Sign up for our college football newsletter
We'll start with the result that caused the loudest commotion over the weekend from a game that undoubtedly wasn't on anybody's radar.
As someone once famously said, 'Playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?" Tainted or not, the Wolverines' victory against Western Michigan is in the books and the case is closed.

Several of architect David McLay Kidd's most popular courses have focused on extreme and creative playability, with Gamble Sands in Washington and Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley in Wisconsin as prime examples. Even his first-ever design, the original Bandon Dunes layout at the famed resort of the same name in Oregon, put playability at the forefront.
Kidd had a few deviations from the playability theme in his career, but in recent years he has talked at length about designing courses that are approachable for any level of golfer. The trick, he has said, is to challenge the best players while allowing less-skilled golfers to keep swinging.
Consider that challenge accepted at Bone Valley in Florida, his latest completed creation that will open in late September for preview play at the well-regarded Streamsong Resort. Built with an appreciation of the resort's other courses and with those layouts' DNA in mind, Kidd has constructed a new, full-sized 18 that offers ample width and plenty of opportunities to bounce **** into greens – those are keys to playability for less-skilled players.
But just as megalodon shark teeth can be found in the sand piles left over from the site's history as a phosphate mining operation, Bone Valley can offer a bit of a bite. Stray too far from the best scoring lines, and even the best players will struggle with the angles as they attempt to set up birdie putts.
"My team and I felt like we got to build something really, really fun both visually, strategically, creatively," Kidd said. "I think golfers, when they come here, won't be disappointed. I think they'll have a blast trying to figure out how to navigate their way through. I think every hole has a dozen different attacks you could make, a thousand different ways you could recover from error. It's not overly penal, but she is going to put up a fight against scoring. I think I've been able to refine that over the last dozen years or so."

CBS Sports recently released a poll of 100 college basketball coaches asking which college basketball team was the best of the 21st century, and the results were a bit surprising.
The 2011-2012 UK Basketball team… the one with Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist… that only lost two games and won the national championship… didn't even make the top 5.
The 2011-2012 Wildcats came in at #6 while the 2014-2015 Kentucky team came in at #7 .
Here's how the list came out.
23-24 UCONN 17%

Samoyeds are a wonderful bundle of white fluff and friendliness. The breed made headlines this week, too.
The Samoyed of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift made a hit with folks when i posted along with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end for Tommy Hilfiger's Fall 2026 campaign.
It takes a great deal to steal the show from the football great and his pop singer artist, but this dog managed to do just that. "Are you kidding me?" Kelce told Vogue. "She lights up my day."
Hilfiger was looking for a dog to take part in the shoot and Kelce offered the Samoyed.
"We figured, why not her? She crushed it, and actually really fit into that Tommy aesthetic, too," Kelce told Vogue. "Those are some of my favorite shots."

After an acclaimed All Out pay-per-view, AEW Dynamite returned on Wednesday, Sept. 2 with the fallout from the show in Allen, Texas. From Will Ospreay winning the AEW World Championship to Austin Creed and Kofi making their AEW debuts, it was a night to remember, and that's not even including the other ****** le changes that took place.
While this episode of Dynamite featured plenty of fallout, it also marked the beginning of the build toward the next pay-per-view, with two ****** le matches being made official for the Sept. 26 card. What would be added to the show?
All this and more transpired on this episode of Dynamite:
A recap video of All In plays.
Justin Roberts introduces the new AEW World Champion, Will Ospreay, who comes to the ring. Ospreay says he's "been on a bender" since Sunday celebrating his win. He says All In was amazing, thanks everyone who has been with him on his journey from the beginning and thanks everyone else for their support.
Ospreay says Kenny Omega has been the best wrestler in the world for the last 10 years and still is. Ospreay says Omega is better than him 364 days of the year, except for that one day. Ospreay says they're now tied at 2-2 as the crowd chants for one more match. He says he's satisfied with that record, but if Omega isn't, he can name a time and place to settle the score.
Ospreay starts naming past AEW World Champions, some of whom he says were his heroes. He says the reality is that he's now among all of them, and all of his idols are his rivals.
Ospreay questions his confidence but realizes he's now the standard in AEW.
Ospreay shouts out the United Empire and thanks them for helping him succeed. He says while there's a United Empire in ****** an, he's going to bring the United Empire to AEW.
As Ospreay readies to leave, Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun interrupt. Ricochet says Ospreay knows they have unfinished business and that they're forever intertwined. He also congratulates Ospreay and Omega on their match.
Ricochet understands the fans don't give him credit, but says Ospreay knows him better than they do. Ricochet says Ospreay would not have been in the All In main event without him, and he demands the first shot at the ****** le.
Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors interrupt, and Kidd says Ospreay took away his chances to become the first British IWGP Heavyweight Champion and AEW World Champion. Ricochet and Kidd trade words until they align and head to the ring to target Ospreay, but United Empire runs down to make the save. Ospreay says they can meet in the main event in a tag team match.

A reduced charge does not reduce the seriousness, or the wrongness, of what Tiger Woods did.
Let's hope he understands that because his attorney's comments Wednesday, Sept. 2, following the plea deal from Woods' latest DUI arrest weren't exactly encouraging. Woods lost his driver's license for five years after pleading no contest to charges of reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
"The ultimate decision was made to bring closure to the case," Woods' attorney Douglas Duncan told TV station WPBF, "and to allow Tiger and his family to move on with their lives."
"Move on with their lives." As if this was a minor fender-bender or a ticket for trespassing rather than the averted catastrophe that it was.
Woods endangered lives with this latest DUI incident, clipping a pickup truck towing a small trailer while trying to overtake it at high speed in his neighborhood. After his SUV flipped, it skidded down the street before coming to a stop within inches of a sidewalk.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is widely considered one of the NBA's best players. After winning the scoring ******* le in the 2025-26 season, Doncic firmly established himself as one of the best scorers. But where does he rank as a playmaker in all-time conversations?
The NBA has seen its fair share of great point guards. As one of the most vital positions on the floor, the NBA's list of great point guards features an extensive collection of the league's most creative and intelligent players, with some even redefining the rules of the game.
During a recent appearance on "3's and Ones," former NBA player Lance Stephenson was asked to share his list of the top five point guards in NBA history. While some of Stephenson's answers seem justified, one in particular stood out, as he shared:
"Isiah Thomas. This is not in order. Magic Johnson. Jason Kidd. Stephen Curry. That's four? I got Luka."
For the most part, the first four names mentioned on his list were players that the panel agreed with, and given their accomplishments, the selections seem justified. Still, the mention of Luka Doncic in Stephenson's top five turned some heads, with former NBA player Michael Beasley even referring to it as a "hot take."

Bobby Marks can't help but remember the fall of the New Jersey Nets when he thinks about the Golden State Warriors. They didn't win a ring two decades ago, when Marks was rising through the Nets' front office. They made two straight NBA Finals (2002, '03), and they missed on six straight first-round picks. They tied up money in Jason Kidd and later Vince Carter, when both had hit 30. And they then fell to suffering one of the worst seasons in NBA history – 12-70 – in 2009-10.
"I lived through it, man," Marks, now ESPN's NBA front office insider and formerly the Nets' ****** istant GM, told the Chronicle. "When it doesn't work, when you don't draft great, or maybe players just don't work out for whatever reason – there is a loud thud, from a roster-building standpoint."
The thud may hit in Golden State, whenever Stephen Curry walks off the floor at Chase Center for the last time. On Saturday, the 38-year-old Curry becomes eligible for the fifth contract extension of his career, likely his last. There's not a dominant young cadre waiting to step in: all but one (Moses Moody) of the Warriors' six first-round picks from 2018-22 are on other NBA rosters or out of the league entirely.
Golden State's ability to sustain any kind of championship foundation, now, will trace in large part directly back to any deal their franchise icon signs at some point between Saturday and June 2027.
"The Curry part," Marks said, "dictates what the Warriors' flexibility is."

The summer of 2026 has been a big one for the NBA. Besides major trades and ownership drama, we've seen several players call it a career, including Russell Westbrook and Kyle Lowry. Of course, there's also point guard legend Chris Paul, who retired back in February after being released by the Clippers.
In the case of Paul and Westbrook specifically, their NBA stories may be over now, but the fun is only just getting started. According to NBA veteran Matt Barnes, the former superstars are planning to link up for an epic vacation, where they will bring their wives to honor their storied careers.
"I just talked to CP two days ago," said Matt Barnes on 'All the Smoke.' "He and [Russell Westbrook] are going on vacation. They're taking their wives on vacation. So, two of the greatest PGs are going to kick it up in the sand, have some drinks, and really just celebrate because this is the end of Russ and CP's careers. **** of a run, bro. One of the most feared point guards we've ever seen. I remember him in his heyday with the Lob City team; he was a monster."
It's never easy for an athlete to walk away from their favorite sport, but it's a moment that comes for every player. What comes next varies from person to person, but it really depends on how involved they want to be with the game. While some ex-players (like Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter) opt for media roles, others (like Jason Kidd) accept a coaching job. There are also those like Tim Duncan, who stay out of the limelight entirely.
We don't yet know which category Russ and Paul will fall into, but it's likely they need this vacation after the way they ended things. For Chris, his final stint with the Clippers was supposed to be a final send-off for his career, but things turned ugly when they struggled to win games. As much as he tried to right the ship, Paul alienated himself from the organization by overestimating his authority and making the wrong impression in the locker room.

NBA star Klay Thompson has always been compared to Hall of Fame star Ray Allen throughout his career. Thompson became known as one of the best catch-and-shoot players. This mirrored one of Allen's best offensive weapons during his playing days. When the former 10-time All-Star was active, he was one of the most lethal catch-and-shoot stars.
The comparisons became stronger when Thompson signed a two-year contract to join the Miami Heat for the 2026-27 season. It was the same move that Allen made in 2012, when he left the Boston Celtics and moved to South Beach.
The organization formally introduced Thompson on Tuesday. He was asked how he felt about being compared to the two-time champion during one of his interviews. According to the five-time All-Star, he has no problem being compared to Allen and said that the former star became his inspiration.

"Of course I like those comparisons. I love Ray Allen. Are you kidding me?" Thompson said. " Him and Reggie were the blueprint for my whole off ball formula.

Heat Central: Klay Thompson says he LOVES the 2013 Ray Allen comparison: "Of course I like those comparisons. I love Ray Allen. Are you kidding me? Him and Reggie were the blueprint for my whole off ball formula. — it gives me chills I'm even in the same sentence as Ray because if you told me this my rookie season, I would've never believed you. Ray has one of the greatest shots in history and I still practice that back pedal drill he did in game 6 of 2013. I love those comparisons." (Via ESPN South Florida)

Aaron Marsh, an Eastern Kentucky football standout who became one of the school's first Black student-athletes and later played for the Boston Patriots, died Aug. 7 in Shelbyville, Tennessee. He was 81.
Marsh spent two seasons (1968-69) in the American Football League — the Patriots' last years in the AFL prior to the NFL merger. He played 16 games at wide receiver under head coaches Mike Holovak and Clive Rush. The Patriots played their home games out of Boston's Fenway Park in Marsh's rookie year before moving to Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass. in 1969.
In 16 games, Marsh caught 27 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed four times for eight yards. As a kickoff returner, Marsh racked up 210 yards on 10 returns over his two seasons with Boston (the franchise rebranded as the New England Patriots prior to the 1971 season).

Grimsby Town have signed Notts County midfielder Ryley Reynolds on a season-long loan deal.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan in National League North with Kidderminster Harriers and helped them win promotion to the fifth tier.
He could make his Mariners debut in Saturday's League Two season-opener against Exeter.
"He's an energetic, technically good midfielder who has the ability to play between the lines, create opportunities and get into goalscoring positions," boss Dave Artell told the club website.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have some distractions heading into the 2026 NFL season after a recent Aaron Rodgers interview continues to receive backlash.
Fox Sports 1 host Nick Wright is just one of several members of the sports media community outraged. Wright is always quick to deliver a quality hot take on his shows "First Things First" and "What's Wright with Nick Wright."

However, he might be in the right on this occasion after Rodgers' controversial interview with Pat McAfee went viral for all the wrong reasons. The veteran NFL quarterback made several comments targeting ESPN's handling of the Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel controversy and took a shot at Dr. Anthony Fauci.
"I'm gonna plead the 5th," Rodgers joked in front of the Steelers crowd. "Like that absolute coward Tony Fauci. Absolute coward. Are you kidding me? What are you scared of Tony? I thought you were science?"

Mister Rodgers's neighborhood was not a happy place on Monday.
Aaron Rodgers took the opportunity of a live interview with The Pat McAfee Show to eviscerate a "cowardly" Anthony Fauci, "gutless" ESPN, and other enemies, real or imagined.
This was Michael Corleone at the end of The Godfather settling all family business. It was gonzo but wildly entertaining sports TV. When McAfee & Co. tried to gently steer the 42-year-old football legend to safer topics, he ran right over them. ProFootballTalk wrote the four-time MVP took a "flamethrower" to Fauci and ESPN. But they weren't alone. Here are seven targets who took fire from Rodgers's blunderbuss:
Back in 2021, Rodgers was publicly roasted for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine. Turnabout's fair play. Rodgers immediately took aim at Fauci, calling him an "absolute coward" for pleading the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times before the U.S. Senate last week. "Are you kidding me? You got a pardon, and you plead over 100 times? What are you scared of, Tony?" asked Rodgers. "I thought you were the science?—'I am science.' And you get up there, and you can't answer a question? What are we doing?"
Rodgers was similarly displeased with ESPN's coverage of his vaccination status and other controversies in recent years. What a coincidence. He used ESPN's own air to call out McAfee's business partner as a "gutless organization" with "no integrity," while the host squirmed uncomfortably. According to Rodgers, now that he's been vindicated in the COVID debate and reconciled with his family, ESPN's reporters have nothing left to bash him over. "I just don't care anymore," he said. "I cared a little bit. Now, I don't care at all."

"The Pat McAfee Show" aired live from Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on Monday with regular guest Aaron Rodgers joining the host for an interview. The Steelers quarterback is entering what he has said will be his final season before he retires from the NFL. With that in mind, McAfee began the interview by asking Rodgers, "Is everything better? Is everything funner? is everything more awesome?"
Rodgers responded to that question by saying, "I'm pleading the fifth." As McAfee laughed, Rodgers then launched into a personal attack on Anthony Faucci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who was the subject of a contentious congressional hearing last week.

"Like that absolute coward Tony Faucci," said Rodgers. "Absolute coward. Are you kidding me? You got a pardon and your in front of the and you pleaded over 100 times? At the White House? What are you scared of Tony? I thought you were the science. I thought you… I am science? And how much did the network spend on that? How much time did they spend on my responses every week? On my vaccination status? On Taylor and Travis's wedding? Did they do even a minute? Did they do even a minute on Tony Faucci? No, I bet they didn't."
Rodgers also questioned McAfee about ESPN's coverage of the Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel story. McAfee's responses varied from laughter to "my network?" All-in-all, a great couple minutes of content to appear on ESPN if you're writing about sports media.

If we've learned nothing about sports documentaries in recent years, it's that the subjects of the documentaries often have the ability to keep some of the facts that have been documented from being included in the finished product.
And so it should surprise no one that Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield had the ability to pull the plug on anything that the producers of the Quarterback series proposed for inclusion into the final cut.
The topic came up during Mayfield's Thursday press conference, the one that focused primarily on his contract situation with the team.
"To be honest with you, I didn't watch the full series," Mayfield said. "They sent all the clips of us in it, just so I could give the final OK. Apologies to the families of little kiddos because the language on there is actually not very suited for them. It's — might be a little angry elf on the field every once in a while. So that's probably the part that I do regret a little bit, but that's the fire on the field, unfortunately, that comes out on TV.
"But, yeah, I wanted to portray that I'm all ball. It's — you can say what you want in the media. You can say I'm **** y and whatever, but it's all ball. I love my teammates, I love this game, and I love playing it."

SEATTLE (AP) — Royce Lewis hit a tying home run in the seventh inning and Luke Keaschall smacked a go-ahead double as the surging Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Friday night.
Minnesota's seventh victory in nine games gave the Twins (56-55) a winning record for the first time since April 21, when they were 12-11. They are tied with Cleveland for the final American League playoff spot, and both teams are three games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
The skidding Mariners (53-58) have lost three straight and eight of 10 to fall three games behind AL West-leading Houston.
Yoendrys Gómez walked two in the ninth but locked down his 14th save of the season. Kody Funderburk (2-1) tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief after Zebby Matthews struck out a career-high 10 in five innings of three-run ball.
Lewis led off the seventh with a no-doubt drive to left field off left-hander José A. Ferrer (4-2) to make it 3-all. Alan Roden reached on an infield single and, one-out later, Keaschall put the Twins up for good with his RBI double off Eduard Bazardo.

BENGALURU, July 24 (Reuters) - India's private sector growth skidded to its weakest in over four years in July as a sharp slowdown in services constrained overall expansion even though rising export orders and hiring offered limited support, a survey showed.
• HSBC's flash India Composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), compiled by S&P Global, fell to 54.3 in July from June's 57.1, confounding a Reuters poll median forecast for a jump to 57.7. However the index remained above the 50-mark separating growth from contraction.
• Export orders offered a brighter spot with international sales growing at the fastest pace since March.
• Among sectors, services was the biggest lag. The business activity index fell to 53.1 from June's 57.4 - its weakest reading since February 2022 - weighed by challenging market conditions, order cancellations and reduced client enquiries.
• Manufacturing was steadier but not strong enough to change the broader trend. The factory activity index eased to a four-month low of 53.9 from 54.2. Output and new orders continued to expand at a stronger pace helped by robust demand from overseas markets.

On July 21, during CNBC's Mad Money program, host Jim Cramer used the daily chart **** ysis by options trader Bob Lang, founder of Explosive Options, to examine American Express Company (NYSE:AXP). Cramer pointed to the company's distinct cardholder demographic and high-margin annual fee structure, as he highlighted why the premium card issuer remains a long-time favorite for core portfolio allocations:
Now finally, there's one that I have been near and dear for as long as I can remember, and that's American Express. Now, this only has 10% of purchase volume with fewer cards in circulation, but their cardholders tend to spend a lot more money. Plus, they charge fees for their best cards, basically making you pay for access to their generous rewards programs. It's a fantastic business model. But remember, they do have credit risk.
Under Cramer's framework, American Express occupies a specialized niche compared to rival payment networks Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) and Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA). While Visa controls 60% of cardholders and Mastercard holds 25% to 30%, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) commands roughly 10% of purchase volume. However, unlike Visa and Mastercard, which operate strictly as neutral tollbooths with zero balance-sheet risk, American Express operates as a direct card issuer. That closed-loop structure allows the company to capture premium annual membership fees and higher per-cardholder spending, though it requires absorbing credit default risk when consumers fall behind on payments.
On the technical side, Cramer highlighted that Lang noted that American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) has shown exceptional relative strength during recent broader market chop. After breaking out above its 200-day moving average in early June, the stock successfully retested that key support level on multiple occasions before surging higher on heavy volume. With the MACD indicator continuing to flash a buy signal, Lang sees a clear path toward $350, with a secondary upside target at its February peak of $370. It is the exact price level where sellers previously emerged. Furthermore, heading into Friday's quarterly report, Cramer shared Lang's bullish fundamental outlook on travel demand while offering his own tactical trading playbook for retail investors:
Now, I've gotta tell you, in his view, American Express is the best in class. Given that we've seen big numbers in travel here, Lang expects that Amex will shoot the lights out when it reports on Friday… I agree with him that this company's best of breed, but I also want to point out that American Express' stock, no matter what they seem to report, tends to sell off in response to earnings on that Friday even when the numbers are terrific. Then it gradually finds its footing afterwards and mounts strong rallies in between quarters, which is why I always say, you know, around like 10:30, 11, you might want to buy this one. I'm not kidding. It's been a good prediction so far.

Four days after President Donald Trump declared that his administration uncovered "shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure," dozens of state election officials from across the country gathered in Boston.
But they weren't there for an emergency summit to tackle the supposed crisis, even though the midterm elections are only 15 weeks away.
Instead, these election officials from 37 states met for a long-scheduled professional conference that struck a strikingly business-as-usual tone. In fact, Trump and his primetime address hardly came up.
In interviews with CNN, more than a dozen election officials from both parties said Trump's address surfaced little new in terms of evidence. Several GOP officials even scoffed at his presentation, pointing to the data that the administration released to try to bolster its case that there are massive numbers of non-citizens voting in US elections.
Matt Crane, a Republican who runs the Colorado County Clerks ***** ociation, said his text chat with a bipartisan group of colleagues was filled with "a lot of laughing emojis, and like, 'you got to be kidding me?' that this was all it was."

Matt Crane, a Republican who runs the Colorado County Clerks ***** ociation, said his text chat with a bipartisan group of colleagues was filled with "a lot of laughing emojis, and like, 'you got to be kidding me?' that this was all it was."

Grizzlies point guard D’Angelo Russell is not believed to be a long-term piece in Memphis, with both sides expected to work together toward a resolution that would allow the 30-year-old to find a new home at some point this offseason — whether via a buyout agreement or a trade — sources tell Yahoo Sports.
Russell, who appeared in just 25 games last season in Dallas, arrived in Memphis earlier this month as part of an expansive six-team deal involving Milwaukee, Washington, Dallas, the LA Clippers and Detroit. The trade also sent center Isaiah Stewart, guard AJ Johnson, three future second-round picks, a conditional first-round pick and a second-round swap to the Grizzlies.
The veteran guard was ****** umed to be part of a ball-handling group in Dallas last season designed to ****** ist in the development of then-rookie Cooper Flagg, but started just three games — seemingly falling out of favor with former head coach Jason Kidd amid options like Ryan Nembhard and Brandon Williams. Russell, who was later traded to the Wizards at the February trade deadline and opted into the final year of his contract ($6 million) in June, would be potentially joining his fourth team in a span of two years.
Russell’s timeline — an experienced player with over 30 playoff games — simply doesn’t align with a rebuilding Grizzlies franchise seeking young, developmental talent centered around a core of Cedric Coward, Zach Edey and recent No. 3 pick Cameron Boozer. Coward and Boozer impressed in Vegas during summer league, with Coward averaging 19 points, 7 ****** ists and 4 rebounds and Boozer finishing the campaign earning first-team honors — and with the Grizzlies reaching the championship game. Memphis is also dealing with a roster crunch after an eventful summer, with 21 players currently on the roster (including Javon Small and Jahmai Mashack who are on two-way contracts).
The next question for Russell at this stage of the offseason will be finding a situation outside of Memphis where his skill set fits with an already established ecosystem. At a glance, his career stats paint the picture of a more-than-capable floor general — 17 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.6 ****** ists on .427/.363/.793 splits — but his recent inconsistency requires a larger lens. When Russell has dominated the ball, he’s been shown to be a quality creator who threads the needle well between usage, playmaking and scoring prowess. The challenge for him, at least over the course of his recent stops with the Lakers, Nets and Mavericks has been dealing with efficiency under the umbrella of shot distribution and overall pecking order — along with remaining effective on the defensive end.
