Hamburger SV's lacklustre start to the new Bundesliga season continued this afternoon on home soil. In the Hanseatic sun, an FSV Mainz 05 side inspired by the brilliance of Sheraldo Becker and Phillip Tietz ran out comfortable winners on a 5-0 scoreline.
Similar to their opening day struggles in Dortmund, the hosts seemed to struggle as Mainz piled on the pressure. Sheraldo Becker stung the palms of Daniel Heuer Fernandes, before Nadiem Amiri fired wide on the end of a neat set-piece routine inside 15 minutes.
The warning signs were clear and HSV took no heed of it as an atmospheric Volksparkstadion fell momentarily silent. A misplaced pass from skipper Nicolai Remberg was picked off by Kaishu Sano. From there, he played in Becker who dispatched from a one-on-one scenario.

Los Angeles Rams DE Aaron Donald's new contract will pay him a base salary of $10 million for the 2026 season, another $10 million in roster bonuses and an additional $10 million based on playoff incentives and playing time, the latter of which should be easily achievable even if he is part of a rotation. Donald had been slated to receive $30 million during the final year of his old contract but that number was reduced to the league minimum for salary cap reasons when he retired in March 2024.

Junior cornerback Kobi Albert set the tone for Southern Miss' 49-3 win over Alcorn State just one minute and 23 seconds into the game.
On a deep ball thrown by Braves quarterback Jaylon Tolbert, Albert jumped up and reeled in his first career interception, setting off an early celebration from both teammates and fans at Renasant Stadium on Sept. 5. It was his first of three interceptions for Albert and five total turnovers for the Golden Eagles.
"He's been a leader since the day we walked in here," senior quarterback Ethan Hampton said of Albert. "I don't think it's a coincidence that our leaders are making a lot of plays. ... He's a great player and he's going to continue to be a great addition for us."
Southern Miss is the fourth program Albert has been played for during his collegiate career. He started at Kentucky, before transferring to Mississippi State and then UConn, before ending up with the Golden Eagles. He entered the game without an interception.
"It's just surreal," Albert said. "The work that I put in in the offseason is just starting to pay off. Really just the work that I put in the past couple of years is starting to pay off. (I've) been at a couple places and haven't really been able to get the opportunity to get on the field. Now that I'm actually able to be on the field, I'm able to show people what I can do."

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 4 (Reuters) - When traffic authorities confiscate a delivery rider's motorcycle in Buenos Aires, getting back to work can depend on taking out costly digital loans, feeding a debt cycle that is increasingly binding Argentina's gig workers to the apps they rely on for income.
Albert Quintero, a 41-year-old courier, earns on average 70,000 pesos ($46) per day delivering takeaway meals. But recovering an impounded motorcycle can cost around 140,000 pesos ($90) in fines and fees, a bill he says many workers can't afford without borrowing.
More app workers are turning to fintech loans, including credit offered by the same delivery platforms they work for, despite interest rates that regularly run into triple digits.
Apps such as PedidosYa offer loans to riders at a 131% annual rate, while digital wallet Personal Pay charges around 170%.

BP has appointed Ian Tyler as chair of the company, effective immediately, according to a Wednesday announcement.
Tyler joined BP's board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was appointed interim chair in May after the oil giant ousted its former Chair and Director Albert Manifold over concerns related to his oversight and conduct.
BP named Tyler the permanent replacement to Manifold after conducting an extensive search process that included both internal and external candidates, the company said.
"Ian brings significant experience providing challenge and support to executive teams, while maintaining strong governance and oversight on behalf of shareholders," Amanda Blanc, BP's senior independent director, said in the announcement. "These qualities have been evident during his time as Interim Chair, where he has secured the confidence of the board and executive management through his considered leadership, judgement and integrity."

TRUMBULL - Finn Kilmartin and Will Zaccagnino were in the eighth grade when they found out they'd both be heading to St. Joseph for their high school years.
Since that time, they've become massive parts of the Hogs' football team, Kilmartin as a linebacker and sometimes running back, and Zaccagnino as a disruptive lineman wreaking havoc on both sides of the ball.
When Kilmartin sees the 6-foot-5, 275-pound Zaccagnino make a big play, he's not just celebrating with a friend or a teammate.
He's celebrating with his godfather.
Kilmartin converted to Catholicism with guidance from Father Ferry Galbert, the school's former chaplain, during his sophomore year and received the Sacraments all at once, with baptism, confirmation and communion at the Easter Vigil in 2025.

Shell has completed its acquisition of Canadian oil and gas producer ARC Resources, significantly expanding the supermajor's position in the prolific Montney basin of British Columbia and Alberta.
The transaction has an updated enterprise value of approximately $16.5 billion, including $2.5 billion of net debt and leases. ARC shareholders receive C$8.20 in cash and 0.40247 Shell shares for each ARC share, according to Shell.
The acquisition immediately adds around 370,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of natural gas and liquids production to Shell's portfolio and more than 1.5 million net acres in the Montney. At the end of 2025, ARC held around 2 billion boe of proved and probable reserves.
The deal also strengthens Shell's Canadian LNG strategy. ARC's gas resources sit close to Shell's existing Montney operations, while Shell owns a 40% interest in LNG Canada. ARC previously said its undeveloped gas properties could help Shell extract additional value through its integrated LNG business, including a potential second phase of LNG Canada.
Shell expects the acquisition to lift production growth across its Integrated Gas and Upstream businesses to around 4% annually through 2030, compared with 2025. The company expects double-digit returns and says the deal should boost free cash flow per share beginning in 2027.

After allowing a touchdown with under a minute to go to go down 14-13, Indiana transfer quarterback Alberto Mendoza found Dalen Penson on a 42 yard crosser to put Tech in field goal range and a chance to save the game. Alas, Aidan Birr's 45 yard field goal was blocked before it had a chance to see the sky as time expired.

As school begins this week, Amityville High School abruptly canceled its varsity football season on Monday, citing preseason injuries.
Sean Kreuder is a former Amityville "Tide" football player who graduated in 2025. He, like many, was surprised to hear that the Tide's varsity team was canceling this season.
"I was a little disappointed and shocked, because it wasn't that long ago that I was playing," Kreuder said. "I feel bad they are not going to have a senior season, especially after practicing all summer."
The school superintendent, Gina Talbert, sent a letter to the community saying the choice was made with heavy hearts and that the decision centers entirely on student-athlete safety and the long-term health of the program.
It stated in part, "Taking into account numerous player injuries on the varsity level, the program has made the decision to pause varsity competition for the upcoming season and focus all resources on a junior varsity schedule."

Now, they want nothing to do with him — and are souring on the GOP overall.
Many Detroit-area Arab Americans, who swung hard to Trump over the war in Gaza and cost-of-living issues, are now saying they're fed up with the ongoing war in Iran and slow peace process in Gaza. It's a shift that could have direct consequences on the battle for Senate control, with former Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers fighting to hold onto Trump's 2024 gains against Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, a Muslim whose parents are Egyptian immigrants.
Trump's perceived broken promises — exacerbated by GOP attacks against El-Sayed that some see as Islamophobic and racist — are pushing these voters out of reach for Rogers.

The good feelings lasted about 53 minutes. In that far-too-brief period of time, we got to see a glimpse of what the 2026-27 Borussia Dortmund squad could do, even without Joey Veerman or Nico Schlotterbeck. But with Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias, the two signings designed more than anything to reinvigorate the club as a whole, out on the pitch showing what they were made of, we were flying.
Hamburg couldn't get out of their own half, much less touch the Dortmund goal. The Greek kids looked every bit the talented studs that were promised. Karetsas played a perfect combo with Guirassy to set up the Dortmund striker for his and the club's first goal of the season. Then, just before the half, Giannis opened his own account when Maxi Beier played him into the box. He dribbled, found a bit of **** e, and took a shot that took a very fortunate deflection off Sebastiaan Bornauw and into the net. The deflection was so lucky I thought it might be ruled an own goal, but the Bundesliga's website still gives it to Giannis as of writing this.
Aaaaaaaaand that was it for the good feelings. BVB came out into the second half and it took eight minutes for the season to end. Giannis challenged for a ball, tweaked his knee without contact, and had to be subbed off. Niko Kovac subbed on Marcel Sabitzer, but Giannis's absence was noticed immediately. Hamburg controlled the play much better in the second half, and to add to the sour mood, Samuele Inacio received a straight red card towards the end of the match with a late slide-tackle that connected with Albert Grønbæk's shin. Inacio walked off in tears.
So Dortmund held out for the 2-0 win and clean-sheet, but the mood was irrevocably destroyed. We can never have nice things, and when we do they only get briefly teased before they get ripped away. The night is dark and full of terrors.
I'll just say it because we're all already thinking it: I'm very nervous that Giannis tore his ACL. Depending on the severity he could potentially miss the entire season, but even a partial tear would put him out of action for multiple (read: at bare minimum three months). Bottom line, unless it's a miracle and it's only a Grade 1 or something less severe like a meniscus tear (which would still require many weeks' recovery), we're not seeing him back on the pitch any time soon. If I'm Ole Book, I'm trying to find a last second cheap winger on the transfer market.

JENNERSTOWN -- The Jennerstown Speedway Complex hosted its crown jewel race of the season Saturday, Aug. 29.
For the ninth time, the Motor Mountain Masters was held at the storied track. Despite a rainout earlier in the year and the CRA backing out just over a week before the race, chief pit steward Mike Belardi and the Jennerstown staff put together a stout field of 22 drivers.
Standouts from out of state along with Jennerstown Speedway weekly competitors battled for $10,000 and the Crimson Jacket.
For the first time, the jacket is headed North of the border, as 19-year-old Chase Pinsonneault from Belle River, Ontario claimed the victory.
Albert Francis, a former Jennerstown Martella's Pharmacies Late Model champion, dominated the first 50 laps.

Texas A&M's 2028 recruiting class will take center stage this fall, as five-star quarterback Donald Tabron and four-star Edge Chance Archangel are currently the program's lone commitments heading into the 2026 season, but this is just the start for coach Mike Elko and his staff, who are set to host a growing list of blue-chip prospects in the cycle during all seven of the Aggies' home games.
Among that growing list is five-star defensive lineman Kellan Hall, who recently placed Texas A&M on his Top 12 program list and has released his unofficial visit list for the fall. He will reportedly make his way to College Station on Oct. 3 and will attend Texas A&M vs. Arkansas in Kyle Field, joining several elite 2028 recruits, including five-star safety Casey Barner.
Earlier this summer, Hall spoke to On3/Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman, raving about his first visit to College Station while providing an early preview of his unofficial visit plans with the Aggies and detailing his strong relationship with Texas A&M defensive line coaches Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie.
"I was on campus for a few days, so really got the chance to talk to quite a few players and other recruits. However, the highlight was the camp and working with Coach E. Rob, Coach Tony, and Coach Malik. I really like how they are intentional about giving guys work during practice and every player has a coach working with them. The Colorado Buffaloes' linebacker core was completely revamped this offseason with Deion Sanders' staff adding three starting-caliber linebackers from the transfer portal. All three have had impressive fall camps, with two making the Butkus Award watch list and the other, Tyler Martinez, recently named to the Hispanic College Football Player of the Year watch list.
Martinez, a New Mexico State transfer, missed most of the 2025 season with an injury, but in the four games he played, he totaled 27 total tackles, four pass breakups, one tackle for loss, one interception and a forced fumble. He showed impressive playmaking ability in limited action, and Colorado hopes he can find that form in 2026.
The award was established only in 2025, with the founding of the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame. The inaugural recipient was Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.
Other players to make the preseason watch list include Mendoza's brother Alberto, who the Buffaloes are likely to face as Georgia Tech's presumptive starting quarterback. Penn State linebacker Tony Rojas and Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. are other stars on the list.

Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith has rejected the idea of slapping export taxes on crude oil exports to the United States in retaliation for the Trump administration's tariff salvo against Ottawa, saying they would be damaging to Canada.
"Although I understand the need to respond strongly to these tariffs, I cannot think of a more disastrous policy decision than cutting off or taxing Alberta's oil to the United States," Smith said as quoted by Global News, adding that the move would trigger a disproportionate tariff response from the United States that could hurt the Canadian economy.
"It would not only extinguish the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Albertans, it would economically hobble our friends and neighbors in other provinces to the east," she said, warning of millions of jobs getting lost as a result of the tariff war.
Alberta exports about 4 million barrels of crude oil daily to the United States. Last year, the total value of these exports stood at about $80 billion. Trump has so far not threatened tariffs on crude oil coming from Canada but, according to Smith, this could change if Canada itself decides to use oil exports as a weapon in the tariff war.
As for the possibility of threatening the U.S. with a suspension of oil exports, Smith suggested this would be an even worse idea. "The United States would, of course, respond and cut off all gasoline and diesel from their refineries to Ontario and Quebec, right as we turn into fall and winter," she told media.

Félix Bautista delivered a clean inning in his second rehab appearance (first at Triple-A). Bautista shook off the rust from his first outing and generated a ground out, strikeout, and fly out. His sinker topped out at 97 MPH.
Bautista entered after starter Trey Gibson threw four innings of two-run ball. Gibson allowed four hits, struck out four, and did not hand out a free pass.
