Corinthians advanced to the Brasileirão Feminino A1 semifinal on Sunday night (7) with another win over Cruzeiro, 2-1, at Canindé in São Paulo. After a 1-0 victory in the first leg, Timão defeated Raposa again, this time coming from behind. Marília opened the scoring for Cruzeiro, but Jhonson, Tamires, and Thaís Ferreira found the net to seal Corinthians' place in the next round.

Juventus had won their first two games of the season, but it would be entirely fair to say that they had come close to leaving those matches ruing missed opportunities. Each of them could've been put away long time before they were, and indeed one of the major talking points headed into Sunday's matchup against AC Milan was the fact that the Bianconeri had gotten the results without reaching the level of performance they desired. Milan were in the same boat, winning two straight under new manager Ruben Amorim but not convincing in either. It felt as though the team that managed to perform better would be the likelier to come out of the Allianz on top.
It was ultimately Juve that had the better of a game that was equal parts chaotic and sloppy. But once again they failed to take advantage of their performances. They failed to make the most of the chances they made over the game's first 70 minutes before Milan scored on — stop me if you've heard this one before — their first shot on target of the match. It took until the second minute of stoppage time for Juve to finally even things out, when Federico Gatti powered home a Teun Koopmeiners cross from six yards to earn the Old Lady a 1-1 draw.
The problems for Juventus were the same as we've talked about all season so far. The finishing wasn't nearly good enough, the passing was disjointed and often inaccurate, and overall creativity seemed to be lacking. But in spite of all of that, they can honestly say that they were the better of the two sides and deserved victory — even more so when you consider the fact that Milan's goal really should've been disallowed for a foul in the buildup that was never flagged by VAR. Considering they were missing seven players due to injury, several of whom were extremely important, it's far too early to start abandoning hope of a successful year—provided they make the improvements that their play so far suggest is possible.
Luciano Spalletti was missing Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie, Khéphren Thuram, Andrea Cambiaso, Jeff Ekhator, Juan Cabal, and Pape Matar Sarr. His 4-2-3-1 formation gave several players their first starts of the year. Guglielmo Vicario started behind the back four of Pierre Kalulu, Bremer, Jhon Lucumí, and Zeki Celik. Jhon Lucumi wants to become one of the leaders in the Juventus dressing room after completing his move to the club from Bologna during this transfer window.
The Colombian has always wanted to wear the Juve shirt and had long dreamed of becoming one of their players. As a result, when other clubs showed interest in signing him, he was not interested in joining them.
Lucumi waited for the Bianconeri to make an offer for his signature and bring him into their squad. He has now achieved the move he wanted and will be determined to make the most of his opportunity in Turin.
The defender is expected to establish himself as one of the first names on the team sheet at Juventus. If he manages to achieve that, the Old Lady could also come to view him as an important leader within the dressing room.

Former Missions catcher Ethan Salas, the No. 1 overall prospect in the San Diego organization, was called up on Tuesday from Triple-A El Paso, the team announced.
We have selected the contract of C Ethan Salas from Triple-A El Paso, recalled RHP Jhony Brito from El Paso, and transferred INF/OF Luis Rengifo to the 60-day IL.
If Salas makes his Major League debut Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds, he would be the youngest player to appear in an MLB game as catcher since 1991, per MLB's Sarah Langs.
Salas began the season in San Antonio and played in 72 games for the Missions this season. He slashed .286/.361/.417 with 74 hits, seven home runs, 37 RBIs and 41 runs with San Antonio this year. It was just over a month ago when Missions manager Chris Tremie broke the news to Salas that he would be sent up to Triple-A El Paso on July 29.

On Saturday, a struggling Juventus were buoyed by a pair of very unusual suspects — guys most fans figured would be gone, or at least on their way out the door, by this point in the transfer window. Unable to penetrate a deep-lying Parma defense, it was Nico González who gave a moribund attack an instant shot in the arm, forcing a magical save before scoring a deflected goal off his own rebound to open the scoring. Then, with two minutes left, the game was sealed by another unlikely goalscorer: Teun Koopmeiners, who had just come on after an injury to Andrea Cambiaso and finished off a quick attack with a beautiful finish.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — After a blowout win on Wednesday night, Hub City could not follow up against Greensboro on Thursday. The Grasshoppers (75-48, 34-23) attacked the Spartanburgers (56-67, 22-35) early en route to an 11-4 win.
Greensboro turned to lefty Reinold Navarro on the mound against Hub City's Jormy Nivar, making his High-A debut. Both starters faced the minimum in the first before finding trouble in the second.
Maxton Martin reached to kick off the frame on a dropped third strike. Quincy Scott immediately capitalized with a two-run homer the opposite way. Navarro worked around two walks later in the inning to limit the damage to two. The Grasshoppers immediately tied the game again on back-to-back home runs from Jared Jones and Tony Blanco Jr. to lead off the bottom of the second. Blanco was batting out of order when he slugged the second home run, but it came without appeal from the Spartanburgers. Jhonny Severino then struck out, a spot later than **** igned.
After a scoreless top of the third, Greensboro took its first lead. A single and hit batter started the inning. After two outs from Nivar (L, 0-1), Jones walked to load the bases. Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Juventus and Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas are in direct negotiations over a potential deal for midfielder Fabio Miretti and that the two sides are currently discussing the 'formula' of the transfer.
Juventus have already added Randal Kolo Muani, Kerim Alajbegovic, Guglielmo Vicario, Jhon Lucumi, Jeff Ekhator and Zeki Celik to their ranks this summer but are still hoping to add a few more signings to the list before the close of the transfer window.

This was the first game after the trade deadline, allowing the Mariners to unveil what they've been working on the last few weeks. It's the moment you've been waiting for, in other words. Taylor Ward and Domínguez joined the team. Jhonny Pereda made the trip up I-5 to replace Mitch Garver, who was let go along with Rob Refsnyder. Even Brendan Donovan returned from his latest trip to the injured list. This felt like a good opportunity for a reset. It was not.

Aug. 3—The 2026 Northwest League second half is becoming the **** le no one wants to win. But currently, the Spokane Indians sit in the driver's seat.
Even though the Indians merely split with fourth-place Vancouver last week, and are 4-6 over their past 10 games, they return to Avista Stadium this week in first place with a 20-16 record.
The upcoming series against second-place Eugene could set the tone for the stretch run.
Next up: The Indians host a six-game set against the Emeralds (19-17).
The Emeralds were the first-half champs. They feature Deer Park native RHP Hunter Dryden and San Francisco Giants No. 3 prospect OF Jhonny Level. The 19-year-old is hitting .299 with 15 homers, 70 RBIs and 17 stolen bases this season.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Twins have acquired starting pitcher Dean Kremer from the Baltimore Orioles. The Twins are sending outfield prospect Jhonmardo Reyes in return. Kremer is owed $5.75M this season and is controllable via arbitration for 2027.
Kremer has struggled this season to a 6.50 ERA/6.24 FIP in seven starts this year, but has a long track record as a reliable starter. He's also missed most of the season with a quad strain and just returned July 1, and his advanced numbers paint a prettier picture with a 4.92 xERA/3.81 xFIP. From 2022-2025, Kremer had 3.95 ERA/4.17 FIP in 599 innings, so the Twins are making the bet he'll return to that form down the stretch.
If there's one area that is likely to get back to normal immediately, it's Kremer's home run rate. Kremer has allowed 12 home runs in those 7 seven starts for a robust 3.00 HR/9. He was sitting at a 1.17 HR/9 for his career before this season and will likely regress closer to that figure as he rounds into shape.
Reyes, 18, will be heading back to the Orioles. He's still a long ways away, but he's had some very exciting flashes in his first full season in the Twins' system. FanGraphs has him rated as the Twins 10th-best prospect, touting his top end power potential with a lot of questions about his ability to make contact against better pitchers. Twinkie Town's Aidan O'Brien is a bit lower on Reyes, placing him at number 22.
Starting pitching is always significantly more expensive than relievers, but this is a pricey trade for a pitcher that has looked rough this season. His track record will likely pay off in the long run, but Reyes is a significant tier above most 18-year-old wildcard prospects. The Orioles were likely only willing to move Kremer this early specifically because the Twins were willing to offer Reyes. And while I consider this a bit of an overpay, it's not outrageously high and the cost for starting pitching is high in July (See: Minnesota getting a decent prospect for Chris Paddack last season).

The Premier League's most-decorated player, Ryan Giggs, is one, so too AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini, Roma's Francesco Totti and ****** nal defender Tony Adams.
Perhaps some current players such as Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden might join them too.
But there are players at the other end of the spectrum, those who can look back on a lengthy list of employers, and sometimes while their career is still in its infancy.

Jhon Lucumi is in limbo, as Bologna admitted he could leave, but the talks with Juventus are stalling, and Inter and a few foreign clubs could easily overtake the Bianconeri if they loosened their purse strings, Il Resto Del Carlino reports.
CEO Claudio Fenucci addressed the future of the defender.
"He's under contract with us. The fact that there's just one year on it doesn't affect his valuation. He could depart because we made a promise to him a year ago, when we kept him despite an offer that could have changed his career. However, the bid has to be proper."
Sunderland had matched his €28M release clause, although after it had expired, and had tendered €3M wages, but the Felsinei insisted on retaining him.
Juventus haven't dangled that much at this stage for Lucumi, while Inter see him as a fallback target relative to John Stones and Cristian Romero.

Tarik Muharemovic will leave Serie A, as Juventus elected not to bring him back, while Antonio Silva, who had been attached to Milan, won't be coming to the Peninsula. Both are headed to the Premier League, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).
Leeds United have bested Bournemouth and Sunderland in the race for the Bosnian defender. They will pay €38/40M to Sassuolo. The Bianconeri will pocket half of that figure due to a 50 percent resale clause. They wished to acquire him for about €15M, but the Emilian side drove up his price tag. The center-back will sign a rich five-year deal.
While Juventus gave serious thought to signing Muharemovic, Milan didn't go past an initial inquiry for Antonio Silva. Benfica couldn't convince him to sign an extension and then swiftly sold him to the Cherries.
The Rossoneri have already signed Mario Gila for a higher fee. They might add further if they parted ways with Fikayo Tomori. The Englishman has been linked to the Old Lady, but they'll resume negotiating with Bologna for Jhon Lucumi first now that his €28M release clause is no longer in play. Now that Juventus are pocketing €20m from the €40m sale of Tarik Muharemovic to Leeds United, they will reportedly use it to get Jhon Lucumi from Bologna.

The San Diego Padres brought the winning run to the plate with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays. Xander Bogaerts stepped into the batter's box with Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. on first and second base after the Padres recorded three consecutive two-out hits off Padres closer Louis Varland. Bogaerts worked the count full, but on the final pitch of the at-bat he hit a routine ground ball to third base, which resulted in the final out of the game to give San Diego a 5-3 loss at the hands of Toronto in their series opener at Petco Park on Friday night.
The Padres came into the bottom of the ninth trailing, 5-2. Jake Cronenworth pinch hit and struck out to open the inning and Luis Rengifo hit a deep fly ball into left field for the second out of the inning. Luis Campusano lined a ball back through the middle of the infield and Tatis followed with a line drive single through the right side of the infield. Merrill stepped in and connected on another base hit, which scored Campusano to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Bogaerts represented the winning run and Petco Park was waiting to erupt with a big hit from the San Diego shortstop. Bogaerts started the scoring in the game in the bottom of the first inning when he connected on a two-run home run off starter Shane Bieber to put the Padres up 2-0. Considering the speed of Tatis and Merrill and the fact that they were on the move on a 3-2 pitch, a base hit by Bogaerts might have tied the game, but it would have likely brought San Diego within a run with Manny Machado set to come to the plate. However, that was not how the 3-2 pitch played out. Instead, Bogaerts bounced a ground ball to Toronto third baseman Kazuma Okamoto who threw across the diamond in time to get Bogaerts to end the inning and the game.
Okamoto proved to have the game-winning hit for the Blue Jays in the top of the fifth inning. Padres starter JP Sears allowed two of the first three batters of the inning to reach base on singles and Jhony Brito came in to face Vladamir Guerrero Jr. Brito allowed an RBI-single and Toronto tied the game at 2-2. Brito then faced Okamoto who won a seven-pitch at-bat with a 377-foot three-run home run into the left field bleachers to give the Blue Jays a 5-2 lead.
