A man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for illegally depositing and storing 367 tonnes of waste at two sites near residential areas.
Thomas Coulter, 46, of Alliance Court in Belfast had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawfully depositing waste and one of keeping unlawful waste.
He admitted collecting waste from homes and businesses before depositing it at two unlicensed sites on the Crumlin Road during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
The waste was later removed by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) at public expense.
The dumping sparked protests from residents in 2020, with locals saying rats and flies had become so bad that some people had left their homes.

Three logistics companies announced acquisitions this week aimed at expanding trucking capacity, cross-border services and customs expertise.
The deals involve Wisconsin-based AmeriLux Transportation & Logistics, Montreal-based ANDY Corp., and Portland, Oregon-based Imperative Logistics Group, each targeting different segments of the supply chain ecosystem.
The transactions underscore how logistics companies are using acquisitions to add specialized capabilities and broaden customer offerings rather than relying solely on organic growth.
AmeriLux Transportation & Logistics announced it has acquired Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Dedicated Systems Inc., a family-owned carrier specializing in nationwide transportation and over-dimensional freight hauling.
Founded in 1991, Dedicated Systems offers flatbed transportation and oversized freight movements.

Brown Capital Management, an investment management company, released its first quarter 2026 investor letter for "The Brown Capital Management Small Company Fund". A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the first quarter of 2026, the Small Company Fund (Investor shares) fell 19.78%, significantly lagging the Russell 2000 Growth index's 2.81% decline. Worsened market conditions due to the Iran war, driving the oil price spike and increased volatility in equities. Despite stabilization in the performance as the quarter progressed, early declines and weakness in large positions significantly impacted the Fund's performance. Please review the Fund's top five holdings to gain insights into their key selections for 2026.
In its first-quarter 2026 investor letter, The Brown Capital Management Small Company Fund highlighted Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV). Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV) is a technology company that provides a cloud-based software platform for the life sciences industry. On June 23, 2026, Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV) closed at $159.71 per share. One-month return of Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV) was 0.77%, and its shares lost 42.86% over the past 52 weeks. Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV) has a market capitalization of $25.94 billion.
The Brown Capital Management Small Company Fund stated the following regarding Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV) in its Q1 2026 investor letter:
"To appreciate these criteria, consider Veeva Systems Inc. (NYSE:VEEV), which provides cloud-based software to the global life sciences industry, including the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Unlike horizontal platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot, which serve broad customer use cases across industries and face increasing AI-driven competition, Veeva's solutions are deeply embedded in highly specialized regulatory, clinical and commercial workflows. Its platform is built on proprietary, highly structured data tied to drug development and compliance processes, making Veeva's offering far less susceptible to commoditization from AI trained on public data. While aspects of Veeva's model are seat-based, its software is mission-critical and aligned with regulated activities, limiting the risk that AI-driven efficiency will reduce demand. Finally, Veeva operates as a system of record, serving as the authoritative source for regulated content and data, in contrast to more interface-driven systems of engagement that are easier to disrupt. Taken together, these characteristics suggest that Veeva is relatively well insulated from the disruptive effects of AI. Nevertheless, the company is trading at a 55% discount to its historical price/sales ratio, largely due to this AI derating."

Prince Harry is once again catching heat for his controversial memoir, "Spare."
The second son of King Charles and the late Princess Diana shocked the world in 2023 when he released a scathing book about his life in the Royal Family. The claims included shots at his older brother, Prince William.
Now, part of Prince Harry's claims about Prince William have resurfaced amid his upcoming return to the UK.
When Harry wrote "Spare," he detailed events from different moments in his life, including the period he attended the prestigious Eton College in 1998. He enrolled in the all-boys boarding school a year after his mother's passing and counted on William to help him settle in.
However, the Duke of Sussex claimed his older brother was far from welcoming and allegedly asked Harry to "pretend" they didn't know each other. He explained that Eton had become William's sanctuary and "he wasn't willing to give that up."

WASHINGTON, June 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. current account deficit widened more than expected in the first quarter amid ‌a shortfall on the primary income balance, government data ‌showed on Wednesday.
The Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic ****** ysis said the current account deficit, which measures the flow of goods, services and investments into and out of the country, increased $5.8 billion, or 2.6%, to $226.8 billion last quarter.
Data for the fourth quarter was revised to ‌show the deficit at $221.1 billion instead of the previously estimated $190.7 billion. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the current account deficit widening to $215.0 billion.
The first-quarter current account deficit represented 2.9% of gross domestic product, up from 2.8% in the October-December quarter. It peaked at 6.3% in the third quarter of 2006. The current ‌account deficit has no impact on the dollar given the greenback's status as a reserve currency.
The primary income balance slipped into a $13.3 billion shortfall last quarter from a $3.431 billion surplus. That partially offset a contraction in the trade deficit to $165.8 billion ‌from $177.3 billion in the October-December quarter.

Qualcomm agreed to acquire AI software startup Modular in an all-stock deal valued at $3.92 billion, the semiconductor company said Wednesday, as it works to expand beyond smartphone chips into data center and edge AI markets.
Equity holders of Modular will receive up to 19.2 million newly issued Qualcomm common shares through a private placement, according to the company. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Modular builds software that allows AI models to run across different hardware architectures — including chips from multiple vendors — without requiring developers to rewrite code for each processor. The platform supports CPU, GPU, NPU, and custom chip architectures, the company said.
Qualcomm said the acquisition is intended to deepen its software capabilities for data center AI, supporting inference, orchestration, and deployment across distributed systems. It also positions the chipmaker to attract developers, cloud service providers, and model creators who want hardware flexibility.
"As agentic AI scales across data centers and edge environments, the industry is moving toward disaggregated, multi-vendor architectures that demand a more open and modern software foundation," Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon said in a statement.

Despite wanting to keep her gigantic philanthropy quiet, MacKenzie Scott's giving keeps making a splash.
Of the $19.2 billion worth of megagifts made by donors in 2025, Scott's giving represented one-third, according to data provided to Fortune from Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, had her banner philanthropic year in 2025, when she donated about $7 billion, which brought her **** ulative giving to $26.2 billion in just five years across thousands of organizations focused on housing, DEI, disaster recovery, and many more causes.
Other 2025 megadonors included Michael Bloomberg ($4.3 billion), Bill Gates ($3.7 billion), Warren Buffett ($1.34 billion), and Susan and Michael Dell (nearly $1 billion). These megadonors are part of the larger philanthropic engine in the U.S., which totaled a whopping $617.2 billion in 2025, according to a report published by Giving USA and IU's Lilly Family School of Philanthropy released Tuesday. This included philanthropic donations from individuals, bequests, foundations, and corporations to U.S. charities. The total is a 5.7% jump from the previous year.
"It was a positive year for charitable giving, with virtually all categories of recipient organizations achieving solid or better growth at the aggregate level," Gabe Cooper, vice chair of Giving USA Foundation and founder and CEO of Virtuous, said in a statement. Some of the organization types that received the most funding include religion, human services, education, health, international affairs, and arts and culture.
Despite Scott's extreme generosity in 2025, the Chronicle of Philanthropy didn't recognize her on its list of the top 50 donors this year. That's due mostly to Scott's quiet nature of giving. She is notoriously under-the-radar with her donations, never personally seeking press coverage for her gifts and rarely offering insights into the donations.

Tyler Herro dating Kyle Kuzma's ex sparks buzz as they are now teammates originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Milwaukee Bucks locker might be a little awkward, as Tyler Herro just got traded to the team where Kyle Kuzma has been for about a year and a half. Herro was part of the trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. While Herro and Kuzma have no beef with one another, fans immediately noticed their shared dating history.
Herro has been dating Instagram model Katya Elise Henry for several years, and the pair shares two children, but prior to their relationship beginning, she briefly dated Kuzma. As the trade news became official, the storyline made it back to the internet.
Henry and Kuzma only dated from late 2018 to late 2019. The Instagram model then started dating Herro the following year during the COVID-19 pandemic. She went viral when she posted a YouTube video in 2020 about Kuzma " not being able to handle her," which brought more attention to the former relationship.
While Henry has moved on, so has Kuzma. He has been in a relationship with model Winnie Harlow for several years and proposed to her last year. He chartered a private plane to Turks and Caicos for he and Harlow which he decorated with roses and champagne.

The season cannot get much worse for select fantasy baseball items. These players are struggling mightily and are now injured. However, better days may be ahead. They are players with promise for much better baseball in the second half of the season. Consider adding or buying low on these MLB players to make a fantasy baseball playoff run.
On June 11, Seager hit the Injured List with a concussion. An injury originally expected to sideline Seager for about one week has become a 2-week ordeal.
The hope is that Seager can return as soon as today, Thursday, June 25. He is batting a mere .186. Seager does still flash his great power, with 9 home runs across 177 at-bats, pacing himself for 20+ once again. Seager batted >.270 in every MLB season since 2019. The law of averages will demand a great second half for Seager, who is owned in just 64% of fantasy baseball leagues.
The Dodgers outfielder has been out for roughly one month due to a hamstring injury. He is in Triple-A Oklahoma City in his final rehab starts. The Dodgers expect Hernandez's return on June 29 versus the Athletics.
Before the injury, Hernandez was having a stellar year, with a .276 batting average and a .784 OPS. The 33-year-old has boom-stick power, and he hopes to get back to his 33-home run pace, which Hernandez put forth in 2024. The upside is well worth the addition of Hernandez, who is rostered in less than 55% of fantasy baseball leagues.

Gary Numan and his wife Gemma O'Neil have a bit of an unconventional love story.
Numan reflected on their nearly 30-year romance in an interview with London's The Times on Wednesday, June 24, where he joked that their love affair might be seen as "illegal now."
The Sharpe & Numan frontman first met O'Neill at a fan event in 1980, when he was 22 and she was just 12. Their paths wouldn't cross again for another six years, this time when O'Neill was 18, after posing for a photo with the young fan. While he didn't know her name then, Numan said that changed in 1988 when he signed an autograph for her and already knew to make it out to "Gemma."
The pair's bond deepened as she continued to attend his concerts, with what started as a fan-singer relationship blossoming into a friendship, and eventually, a full-on love affair.
"That's how I attracted her, which I think is illegal now," Numan told the outlet.

The 1996-born defender spoke to Sky about his extension a few days ago: “Negotiations are ongoing, I’m waiting. There are insiders, my agent, myself, and the club: we’re talking and we’ll continue to do so. I’m waiting for answers and we’ll see what happens.”
The Giallorossi defender has an offer of just over €3 million until 2029, with an option for another year.
Roma and Gianluca Mancini continue to negotiate a contract renewal.
As Matteo Moretto reports, the deal is close, but a deal hasn’t been finalized yet. This is why Inter are an interested spectator. The Nerazzurri are waiting, looking for a central defender following De Vrij’s departure to Panathinaikos.

After rumors circulated Wednesday night regarding LaMelo Ball, the Charlotte Hornets finalized a deal to trade him Thursday morning. In a shocking move, Ball and Josh Green will be headed to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a package that includes Naz Reid, a 2033 first-round draft pick, three second-round draft picks and three first-round pick swaps.
The move comes after the Hornets were gaining serious momentum in the Eastern Conference, having made a 25-win improvement from a season prior, going from 19-63 to 44-38. As a result, Charlotte finished one game away from their first playoff berth since the 2015-16 season, falling to the Orlando Magic in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
Now, without Ball, the Hornets seem to have pushed their window of contention down the line even further despite the strides they made last season. As for Minnesota, the Timberwolves have finally paired Anthony Edwards with another All-Star caliber talent in a highly contested Western Conference.

Phillies have chance to snap run-differential streak that's lasted since Game 3 of 2026 season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the more fascinating teams in Major League Baseball this season, as they started off 9-19, one of the worst teams in baseball, but have since been one of the best teams in the sport.
Now, following back-to-back miraculous wins over the rival Washington Nationals, the Phillies are sitting on the cusp of something they haven't had since Game 1 of the 2026 MLB season: a positive run differential.
The Phillies' standings have them at 44-36, 4.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, and sporting just a -1 run differential. For a team that's been as good as the Phillies, they can finally get back into the positive run differential this season.
At just a -1 run differential, the Phillies are one win away from getting out of the negatives in run differential, which would be the first time that's been the case since the third game of the 2026 season.

MUMBAI: The two T20Is against India will begin at 1.30 pm local time, which is 6 pm IST, in a bid to avoid an overlap with the crucial India versus Australia clash in the 2026 Women's World Cup at Lord's on Sunday, it is learnt.

"It was simply a factor we considered," a Cricket Ireland official told TOI on Thursday. Normally, T20 internationals involving India start at 7 pm IST, but on this occasion the start time has been advanced by an hour to account for Harmanpreet Kaur & Co's key game against Australia in the Women's World Cup, which is scheduled to begin at 7 pm IST. The two-match T20I series between India and Ireland in Belfast will involve games on Friday and Sunday.

The five T20Is in England that follow immediately after the Ireland series have varying start times. Three games, in Chester-le-Street, Nottingham and Bristol, are scheduled to begin at 10 pm IST. While two of the matches will begin at the traditional 7 pm IST slot, the second T20I in Manchester on July 4 and the fifth in Southampton on July 11, the T20I series will be followed by three ODIs, all of which are slated to begin at the customary 3.30 pm IST.

This is the first time that India will play T20Is in Belfast. In 2007, they played three ODIs against South Africa and one against Ireland in Belfast. In recent years, however, India have toured only Dublin, where they have played six T20Is, two each in 2018, 2022 and 2023, winning all six matches.

The T20I series in Ireland could be historic as India's 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who received his maiden India call-up for the T20I series against Ireland and England, could make his highly anticipated international debut. The series will also mark the India captaincy debut of Mumbai and Punjab Kings middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer.

Former India leg-spinner MV Narsimha Rao, who played four Tests in 1978-79 and later moved to Ireland, will ring the ceremonial bell just before the second T20I between India and Ireland at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast on June 28 (Sunday). Rao captained Hyderabad to only their second Ranji Trophy **** le, defeating Delhi in the 1987-88 final. Popularly known in cricketing circles as 'Bobjee', Rao moved to Ireland 38 years ago, in 1988.

Jun. 25—"Finally" shouted most college coaches and administrators as the NCAA approved a fifth year of eligibility for all sports.
"Too late" grumbled all the four-year athletes who just saw their college careers come to an unnecessary end. Like Illinois wide receiver Hank Beatty, who would have benefited greatly from another season of seasoning. Instead, he is a rookie trying to earn a spot on the Tennessee ***** ans' roster.
The best part for everyone: no more redshirts or waivers. No more counting how many games a player has participated in during the football season. Or deciding when to pull the redshirt off a valuable basketball player.
Once the clock has started ticking with each season, might as well put the player on the field or court or diamond. Takes some of the pressure off the coaches who had to make difficult decisions in the old days.
You can look this up: In 1981, then-Kansas State football coach Jim ***** ey redshirted most of his seniors. Why? Because Kansas State was the worst program in Division I. It had never been invited to a bowl game.

FC Barcelona are already preparing their plans for the upcoming pre-season under Hansi Flick, with several players looking to impress the German coach.
Among them is Hector Fort, who spent last season on loan at Elche. The teenager will return to Barcelona this summer with one clear objective.
According to MARCA, the 19-year-old will report for pre-season on 13 July before travelling with the squad to England, where Barça are expected to hold a one-week training camp and play two friendly matches.
Those games could be decisive for Fort. After spending last season on loan at Elche, he does not want another temporary move. His plan is to fight for a role at Barcelona now.
That attitude is exactly what the club should want from a La Masia defender. Fort knows the competition is tough, but he also knows there may be a real opening if he impresses Flick early.

NBA free agency isn't what it used to be, as CBA rules give teams a major advantage in retaining their top players by allowing them to offer more money and years on new contracts.
Even so, free agency remains an entertaining time for NBA fans, and 2026 should be no different. This year's class has some huge names on it, including LeBron James and James Harden, but it's the young players, such as Jalen Duren, who make it really interesting.
Below, check out how we rank the Top 100 free agents of the 2026 class.
A freakishly explosive big man with driving ability, and who can even hit some short midrange jumpers from time to time, he really specializes as a finisher near the basket and as a rebounder. He did have a porous showing in the 2026 playoffs, which might end up costing him some money, but considering he's still just 22, his upside is quite high.
2025/26 stats: 19.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.8 spg, 0.8 bpg, 65.0 FG%
