Daron Wilkins scored three different ways as Reading High defeated Lebanon 54-12 in a non-league football game on Friday night, the Red Knights' first win of the season.
Wilkins scored on a 17-yard run, 54-yard punt return and 72-yard kickoff return. He rushed for 62 yards on just four carries.
Reading High (1-2) led 32-0 at halftime. Jahleer Nunn had touchdown runs of 7 and 5 yards, Wilkins his 17-yarder, Makye Lias an 11-yard TD scamper and Jason Reyes a 24-yard TD run in the first half. Reyes gained 50 yards in the game on just three carries.
Reading opens its Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 season on Friday at home (Shirk Stadium at Albright College) against Penn Manor.
Lebanon is 0-3 and hosts Elizabethtown on Friday in its LL Section 2 opener.

The Orioles traded seven-year veteran Dean Kremer to the Twins in exchange for 18-year-old outfield prospect Jhomnardo Reyes on July 31. The move subtracted a major league player from the roster, but it did not clearly identify the Orioles as sellers. Kremer missed a significant amount of the season with injury, and he struggled when healthy. Even if the Orioles planned to chase down a playoff spot, it felt like they were willing to proceed without Kremer in the rotation.
The Orioles ultimately sold at the trade deadline, while the Twins acquired Kremer and a few relievers. Minnesota entered tonight's game only a half game above the Orioles in the wild card hunt, and they sent Kremer to the mound against his former team.
Kremer delivered his best and longest start of the season. The prized piece from the Manny Machado trade (by default) limited Baltimore to only one hit and one run over seven strong innings. Kremer struck out seven, walked one, and made the Orioles look silly for parting with him two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Baltimore starter Trevor Rogers struggled. The bullpen gave up five runs in the seventh, and the Twins bested the Orioles 9-5.
Trevor Rogers did not have his best stuff tonight. The lefty managed to hold the Twins to only two runs, but he only lasted four innings. Rogers allowed the leadoff batter to reach in all four frames. He allowed four hits, walked two, and plunked two batters. The Twins rarely chased his pitches out of the zone, and Rogers threw only 45 of 79 pitches for strikes.
Rogers allowed the first two batters to reach in the first and second innings but managed to escape the frames without allowing a run. After watching his teammates leaver runners on base, Austin Martin decided to start the third inning with a solo homer. The blast got the Twins on the board, but Baltimore answered in the top of the fourth.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The United States announced Wednesday that it had suspended all government operations in the Mexican state of Michoacan because of a "threat to U.S. interests," including a halt to the inspections of avocados required for their export.
While the U.S. Embassy did not specify the nature of the threat in its security alert, Michoacan Gov. Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla said on social media that the temporary halt to inspections was intended to safeguard workers following recent arrests linked to extortion. The inspections are necessary for avocados to be shipped to the United States and their suspension could disrupt exports.
The western state of Michoacan is the leading exporter of avocados to the U.S. and has a high level of organized crime activity with at least four cartels — designated as terrorist organizations by the Trump administration — operating in the region. Besides trafficking drugs, cartels also make money through extortion, including of the avocado industry.
Michoacan State Security Secretary Antonio Cruz told The **** ociated Press that one of the arrests mentioned by the governor was of "El Poncho," the alias of Alfonso Fernández Magallón, leader of a local cartel operating in the avocado-growing region around Los Reyes.
U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson welcomed the arrest, which came over the weekend. The U.S. government had offered a $5 million reward for Fernández Magallón's arrest.

The Orioles have arrived at the day of the trade deadline in a place where we don't want them to be for a second consecutive season. That place is the point where the most sensible outcome is to trade away players. This year might be even worse than last year for that because of how often there is chatter about whether players who could help next year's team are being discussed as trade possibilities. We've already seen one of these get traded when Dean Kremer was dealt.
In this week's episode, I engage in the dangerous activity of trying to figure out and understand what Mike Elias thinks. He's a weird guy who does weird things, which is what makes this dangerous and also quite difficult. Given that the Orioles are 2.5 games out with three teams to pass, they're too close to give up, right? But they're also obviously fatally flawed, those flaws can't be fixed at this deadline, so they have to focus on next year.
If we're "lucky", so to speak, some of the trades may involve receiving MLB-caliber players who can actually help next year, rather than just far-off young international players, like Jhomnardo Reyes, the 18-year-old outfielder the Orioles received for Kremer. Elias is surely going to explore trades like that, but if other teams aren't willing to join him in making them, there's not much that he can do. We're going to find out by 6pm today.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Twins have acquired starting pitcher Dean Kremer from the Baltimore Orioles. The Twins are sending outfield prospect Jhonmardo Reyes in return. Kremer is owed $5.75M this season and is controllable via arbitration for 2027.
Kremer has struggled this season to a 6.50 ERA/6.24 FIP in seven starts this year, but has a long track record as a reliable starter. He's also missed most of the season with a quad strain and just returned July 1, and his advanced numbers paint a prettier picture with a 4.92 xERA/3.81 xFIP. From 2022-2025, Kremer had 3.95 ERA/4.17 FIP in 599 innings, so the Twins are making the bet he'll return to that form down the stretch.
If there's one area that is likely to get back to normal immediately, it's Kremer's home run rate. Kremer has allowed 12 home runs in those 7 seven starts for a robust 3.00 HR/9. He was sitting at a 1.17 HR/9 for his career before this season and will likely regress closer to that figure as he rounds into shape.
Reyes, 18, will be heading back to the Orioles. He's still a long ways away, but he's had some very exciting flashes in his first full season in the Twins' system. FanGraphs has him rated as the Twins 10th-best prospect, touting his top end power potential with a lot of questions about his ability to make contact against better pitchers. Twinkie Town's Aidan O'Brien is a bit lower on Reyes, placing him at number 22.
Starting pitching is always significantly more expensive than relievers, but this is a pricey trade for a pitcher that has looked rough this season. His track record will likely pay off in the long run, but Reyes is a significant tier above most 18-year-old wildcard prospects. The Orioles were likely only willing to move Kremer this early specifically because the Twins were willing to offer Reyes. And while I consider this a bit of an overpay, it's not outrageously high and the cost for starting pitching is high in July (See: Minnesota getting a decent prospect for Chris Paddack last season).

Mike Elias has made his first move ahead of the trade deadline. The Orioles are trading Dean Kremer to the Twins. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal broke the news of the trade. Another reporter at The Athletic, Dan Hayes, wrote that the return for the Orioles is 18-year-old outfield prospect Jhomnardo Reyes.
Selling off a player right after a dramatic win kind of sucks. The Orioles are one and a half games out of a dang wild card spot and this is how Elias responds. Not only is the first move a sell, it's selling to one of the teams that is ahead of the Orioles in the wild card standings. That's the immediate reaction.
On the other hand, Kremer has a 6.50 ERA across his seven starts this year. He is giving up home runs like they are going out of style. He's been consistent across the past three seasons before that, posting ERAs of 4.12, 4.10, and 4.19. If he finishes the season with that kind of ERA, the Orioles may end up regretting the immediate aftermath of this trade. If he doesn't, then Elias has moved on from a pitcher at a good time and done well to get a player in the process.
This is a subtraction not just from the rotation for the rest of this season but for next season as well. Kremer has one season remaining before becoming a free agent. He's making $5.75 million this year and figures to get at least a modest increase on that next year. That's not even a third of what Chris Bassitt is making this season. Bassitt has started his rehab ******* ignment; he's probably the rest-of-season replacement for Kremer in the rotation, although that may take a start or two before he's built back up and can take that spot. It won't be good if Bassitt pitches like pre-back surgery Bassitt.
Reyes is an 18-year-old from the Dominican Republic who signed with the Twins for a bonus of $322,500 in January 2025. He made his US minor league debut this season with the Florida Complex League Twins affiliate and came away with a pretty darn good .296/.406/.541 batting line in 49 games, including seven home runs. He has since played in a small handful of games for Low-A Fort Myers. Presumably, the Orioles will ******* ign him to their affiliate at that level, Delmarva.

Roma have been searching for a wing-back for quite some time, even more so after Zeki Celik's about-face, and they have recently been focusing their efforts on Ivan Fresneda, while Abde Ezzalzouli has emerged as a candidate to shore up their frontline, Alfredo Pedullà reports.
The Giallorossi have spoken with Sporting CP and the defender's camp three times recently. His valuation is around €17/18M plus hefty bonuses. They haven't decided to push for him for the time being, but he's one of the few players on their list. He headed to Portugal from Real Valladolid for €9M in 2023 and has racked up 81 appearances, scoring 4 goals and dishing out 3 **** ists.
In addition to tracking Fresneda, Roma poked around Ezzalzouli, but he's as pricey as their other offensive targets, some of whom have fallen through. He has hit the net 29 times and provided 18 helpers in 128 games with Real Betis. He has starred 37 times with Morocco.
The Giallorossi haven't given up on trying to acquire Antonio Nusa, but the negotiation is very complex. Instead, on the wing, they placed a small bid for Club America's Israel Reyes. They tendered €2.5M, while the counterparty asked for a lot more, €7M, Mexican publication Excelsior reports. He's been a stalwart for his current team for the past 5 seasons, featuring 146 times.
They need multiple wingbacks after the Celik fiasco and likely won't be able to splurge for two, especially since their interest in signing a big-ticket attacker hasn't waned despite capturing Santiago Castro. Wesley and Devyne Rensch's versatility gives them flexibility, but they should decide where they prefer using the former before adding.

Mexico all but booked their ticket to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF U20 Championship after defeating Costa Rica by a 2-0 score. Mexico overcame going down to 10 players to get a victory that place them at 6 points, basically guaranteeing them to be at worst one of the two best third placed teams and thus the ticket to the Quarterfinals. Mexico will look to win the group against Guatemala on Thursday while Costa Rica faces off against Antigua and Barbuda earlier that day.
The 1st half started with Mexico coming out with most of the starting 11 from their opener against Antigua and Barbuda. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was almost deflected in by Gabriel Sibaja, as Costa Rica had the first chance of the match. Off a counter, Kionell Estrada got off a right footed shot in the area that went wide. A right footed shot from outside the area from Hugo Camberos went well wide. Both teams traded possession as the match became very even. A bad clearance allowed Matias Cordero to get the ball in the area but his shot was well saved by Mexico's goalkeeper, Juan Liceaga. After a harsh foul, there was a short scuffle between teams that ended with David Carro getting a Yellow card. The match continued to be extremely chippy as Mexico couldn't get going against Costa Rica's physical play. From outside the area, Samir Inda got off a great left footed shot that was deflected off the post. Mexico started to dominate possession as Costa Rica sat back and waited to counter. After a cross into the area was won by Santiago Sandoval, he would get brought down in the area by Adrian Espinoza and a Penalty Kick was given to Mexico. Hugo Camberos stepped up to take the PK and got off a thunderous right footed shot that went past Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Ian O'Rourke to score and give Mexico the 1-o lead. From outside the area, Juan Echivelstre got off a great right footed shot that forced O'Rourke to make a great save. Emmanuel Hernandez answered with a right footed shot from outside the area that Liceaga made a great save on it. The halftime whistle blew and after a slow start to the match, Mexico ended the half being the better team.
The 2nd half started with Mexico subbing out Carlos Hernandez for Yohan Orozco. Strangely three minutes into the half, Mexico subbed out Aldahir Valenzuela (possibly because of an injury) for Diego Reyes. A bad clearance from Liceaga ended up with him clearing the ball and kicking Sibaja in the face which earned him a straight red card. It was a terrible mistake from the goalkeeper that now placed the match in extreme danger with only 10 players. Mexico would sub out Juan Sigala for Cristo Navarrate, which because of the strange substitution of Valenzuela, meant that Mexico only had one window for subs for the rest of the match. Off a counter, Inda would make a great pass to Santiago Sandoval, whose left footed shot would be deflected by Emmanuel Brenes past O'Rourk and into the net to score and give Mexico the surprising 2-0 l

The Blue Jays made a blockbuster trade for Troy Tulowitzki. You know you are getting old when things you think happened a few weeks ago actually happened 11 years ago.
The deal sent Tulowitzki and LaTroy Hawkins to Toronto in exchange for Jose Reyes, Jeff Hoffman (I wonder what ever happened to him), Miguel Castro, and Jesus Tinoco.
At the time, the trade worked: the Blue Jays finally returned to the playoffs. Tulowitzki batted .250/.313/.414 with 36 home runs in 238 games over three seasons for Toronto. After his release, he signed with the Yankees but managed only 13 at-bats before landing on the injured list, then retired soon after.
One can only wonder how Tulowitzki's tenure in Toronto would have unfolded without the devastating ankle injury he suffered—also on July 28th, in 2017—when he rolled his ankle slipping off first base. At 32, he still had the potential for a few more strong seasons, possibly building the numbers needed for a Hall of Fame case.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's new initiative to test and treat troops for low testosterone has prompted a federal judge to question the differences between that kind of testosterone replacement therapy and hormone treatment for transgender men in the military.
U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes in Washington raised the question Wednesday in an ongoing lawsuit against President Donald Trump's ban on transgender troops. Reyes noted that Trump's ban says "the Armed Forces must adhere to high mental and physical health standards ... without the benefit of routine medical treatment or special provisions."
Reyes ordered both parties in the lawsuit to address "the similarities and differences in administering TRT, both medically and logistically, for trans men compared to other service members, including cis individuals." She was using the acronym for testosterone replacement therapy.
The judge also requested information on the Pentagon's "basis for treating trans men and other service members differently between this new policy and the Military Ban."
Reyes' order comes a week after Hegseth announced that he is rolling out a new screening program for "testosterone deficiency" among troops, calling it necessary to allow them to operate at their "absolute best."

The last patient being treated for Ebola in Uganda has been discharged from hospital, leaving the country with no active confirmed cases of the deadly disease.
At a ceremony marking the occasion Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi described it as "a moment of joy".
The first case of this outbreak in Uganda was confirmed in May. He was a man who had travelled for treatment from neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, the epicentre of the epidemic where almost 800 people have died.
In his latest briefing on the outbreak, World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it was now the world's third‑largest on record and was spreading at an alarming speed in DR Congo.
He warned it was happening more quickly than any previous outbreak and that 80% of new cases in DR Congo were from previously unknown transmission chains.

It has become a fun party game around American soccer circles to debate whether the United States men’s national team could realistically win the World Cup.
The general consensus is that, at the very least, the combination of increased talent level and home field advantage should give the Americans a chance at their deepest run in the program’s modern era. And while no one would call them favorites, there’s enough quality for the U.S. that a Cinderella run similar to Morocco in 2022 or South Korea in 2002 doesn’t feel absurd.
But on the evidence so far, perhaps we’ve been talking about the wrong host nation.
Mexico completed a thoroughly impressive 2-0 victory over Ecuador on Tuesday night in Mexico City to advance to the last 16. In the process, El Tri made the case that they’re the co-host nation that has the most ingredients necessary to make a deep run at the 2026 tournament.

Reyes (23-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who joined the UFC through a Dana White Contender Series contract win in 2025, wants to make a big impact in his first year as an official UFC fighter. The featherweight **** le hopeful debuted for the UFC in February, stopping veteran Douglas Silva de Andrade in a first-round TKO. Now, Reyes returns at UFC Fight Night 280 (Paramount+) this Saturday at Crystal Palace in Baku, Azerbaijan. He takes on Kaan Ofli (13-4-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC).
Reyes intends to get another dominant win, climbing to 2-0 in the promotion, and call for a spot on September's Noche UFC event, setting himself up for a third – and maybe even a fourth to close out 2026.
"I think it's a possibility, yeah," Reyes told Hablemos MMA in Spanish when asked if he could find himself in the rankings by 2027. "I think I'll finish this guy and get directly into the top 15. I think at the very least I can close out the year in the top 15, and after that, I can begin to hunt the bigger names. But step by step."
Reyes made a big statement in his debut. He dispatches a tough and experienced Silva de Andrade. Despite the big win, he still feels UFC fans haven't seen what he's really about.

Mexico defeated South Korea by a 1-0 score to become the first team to qualify to the knockout stages of the World Cup. The win also won Mexico the Group, which means for the first times since 2002, Mexico won their Group in a World Cup. Better yet for the first time since 1986, Mexico will play the third match knowing they have the ticket to the next stage and for the first time in history they will play it knowing they won the Group. It was an historic win in a match that Mexico was better even when it wasn’t the most aesthetically pleasing victory. Mexico will close out their group stage on Wednesday against Czechia.
The 1st half started with Mexico making only three changes from their opener. Luis Romo and Jorge Sanchez would start instead of Alvaro Fidalgo and Israel Reyes. Meanwhile Edson Alvarez took the spot of suspended Cesar Montes. From outside the area, Roberto Alvarado got off a left footed shot that was easily saved by Kim Seung-gyu, South Korea’s goalkeeper. From outside the area, Brian Gutierrez got off a weak right footed shot that was easily saved by Seung-gyu. A longball into the area found Son Heung-min, who lobbed the shot over Mexico’s goalkeeper, Raul Rangel. Before it went into the line, Alvarez made a wonderful bicycle kick save and although the play would be ruled as offside (and wouldn’t have counted had it gone in), it was a great play from Alvarez. A great cross into the area from Alvarado would find Julian Quiñones, who got off a good header but Seung-gyu made a wonderful save on it. While Mexico had been the better team, it was a very even match with few chances from both sides. A good cross into the area was just missed by Raul Jimenez when he tried to head it. Seol Young-woo got the ball in the area but his left footed shot went wide. South Korea started to gain more possession although Mexico did well to contain them and have them not be able to create chances. A cross into the area was just missed by Lee Jae-sung. The halftime whistle blew as the crowd booed, mad that although Mexico started as the better team, they gradually gave the ****** le up and South Korea finished as the better side.
The 2nd half started with neither team making a substitution. Off a great counter, Gutierrez made a thru pass that found Jesus Gallardo, whose left footed shot went wide. A cross into the area was badly cleared by South Korea and Seung-gyu tried to get to the ball but crashed into defender Lee Gi-hyuk, leaving the ball into the path of Luis Romo, who get off a shot past him and into the net to score and give Mexico the 1-0 lead. It was a great start for Mexico in the 2nd half and a great moment from Romo, who went to Qatar 2022 but didn’t play a minute but right now was making history as one of Mexico’s World Cup goal scorers. South Korea subbed out Son Heung-Min and Lee Jae-Sung for Oh Hyeon-gyu and Hwang Hee-chan. Mexico had once again the better team although the match evened out after their good start to the half. Canadian midfielder Ismael Kone suffered a broken leg during his team’s 6-0 win over Qatar in Vancouver.
Kone was challenged by Qatar’s ****** im Madibo, who was penalised for a foul, in the 50th minute of the match.
The nearest players to Kone reacted in shock as they saw the damage to his left leg. Kone was lifted on to a stretcher by medics and given oxygen. He gave a thumbs up as he was carried off the field, to applause from spectators.

The total number of hantavirus cases linked to the outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius has climbed to 13 following a new case in Spain, the World Health Organization has said.
"Spain reported a new case among the passengers who are in ‌quarantine, which brings ⁠the total number of cases to 13," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom ⁠Ghebreyesus said Wednesday in a post on X.
He added, "There are no new deaths reported since May 2. The total number of deaths remains three out of 13 reported cases so far. The situation remains stable. Passengers who got sick are receiving needed care, while others remain in quarantine."

The woman officer was repeatedly punched as she tried to stop a female fan who refused to leave following the Knicks’ 105-104 win, jumped a barricade, and ran into a frozen area, officials said.
“The situation was pretty chaotic,” said one NYPD source with knowledge of the incident, adding that the attacked officer was “punched badly” in the face.
The fan, 29-year-old Karely Reyes, was charged with ***** ault, resisting arrest, and obstruction of government administration.
Cops said the attack left the 23-year-old officer bloodied and needing medical attention.

June 3 (Reuters) - The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that the world is "catching up" with the Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo, where there ‌have been 344 confirmed cases of the disease and 60 confirmed deaths, although challenges remain.
"The outbreak ‌had a big head start, and we're still behind, but under the leadership of the government of DRC, we're catching up," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a press briefing.
The outbreak, linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, has spread to neighbouring Uganda where 15 cases have been confirmed, including one death, the agency said.
Access to testing has also improved, which is why hundreds of cases that were initially suspected as Ebola have now been ruled out, the WHO ‌said. The most common tests used for ⁠Ebola do not detect the Bundibugyo strain causing this outbreak, which had caused a backlog.

This week, WHO reported a major drop in the number of suspected Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) outbreak, after testing ruled out many of them.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday there were now 344 confirmed cases of Ebola in the DRC outbreak and 116 suspected cases — a significant drop from the 1,000-plus suspected cases.
